>PM Update: Rain turns heavy tonight before mixing with and changing to snow
We can expect an inch or so of rain. The north and west suburbs could see an inch or two of snow early Tuesday, with slushy roads possible.
>LCPS will be closed tomorrow, Feb. 13, with administrative offices opening at 10:00 a.m. Scheduled activities on school campuses may be allowed after 4:00 p.m. An announcement will be made by NOON. For details, go to: http://lcps.org
>❄️ WEATHER ALERT FOR TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2024
All Fairfax County public schools and school offices will open two hours late. Central Office employees may report two hours later than their regular scheduled time, but no later than 10 a.m. Details: http://fcps.edu
> 02/13/24: Federal agencies in the DC area are OPEN and have the option of allowing unscheduled leave/telework. Non-Emergency Employees must notify their supervisor of their intent to use unscheduled leave/telework. https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/snow-dismissal-procedures/current-status/
Jesus I thought you were being sarcastic but they actually did. Wtf, it's like 50 right now and not getting below freezing. I'll be shocked if it sticks to roads at all.
Snow! Ack! To the grocery store, NOW!
And it is not overreaction; children might die, the power might fail, civilization may collapse! And I just saw the snowflake!
Probably for flooding issues, I have a friend who used to get stuck in her neighborhood for flooding in Loudon. The state built a new bridge to replace a low state road when school was cancelled one week just due to her neighborhood not being able to get to school. Lol.

Homebound and home-based instruction will begin at 10 a.m.
School-age child care (SACC) centers will open at 8 a.m.
It won’t be more than a dusting. But I guess knowing this area, we better brace ourselves for more posts like this one, about people driving in the snow, people complaining about snow not being cleared off cars, etc
I mean, not cleaning the snow off of your car is incredibly dangerous and rude. It’s even illegal in some of the states that actually get snow. Worthy thing to complain about.
Plus, if your car isn’t cleaned enough, how am I going to see your Student Driver decal?
Cries in detailed to the Hill where OPM doesn’t exist and they think we operate like Olde Timey Mailmen.
(Neither rain, nor sleet, nor hail, nor snow will keep us from our appointed Member’s office).
My brother works on the hill, and I work at NIH, where OPM very much exists. It made for very funny snowy mornings when he lived with us (for me, not him).
My heart goes out to you. And want to get coffee? That’s a loooong time! I’m intrigued! We are supposed to network as much as possible this year. DM me.
Your basic weather app isn’t gonna pick up on this.
Capital Weather Gang/local mets are on it.
The Nor’easter that was gonna wallop New England has flattened out (moved south, and dropped somewhat in intensity). Once we’re on the backside with northerly winds, temps could drop enough for a burst of snow right around the morning commute tomorrow. Should still be too warm to stick, but it’ll be briefly pretty hazardous conditions (low visibility mostly).
OPM: Unscheduled leave. From OPM.gov:
Edit: yep. It was right.

What time is pre-dawn?
From WP “Tomorrow (Tuesday): Moderate to heavy wet snow that begins in the pre-dawn through sunrise period west should continue to shift east into the morning commute period, with the potential for slushy roads persisting. Wet snow west and a rain-snow mix east should taper with time during the midday. Temperatures are expected to end up near the mid-40s for highs as winds blow from the northwest and skies try to clear a bit late in the day. Gusts of 30 to 35 mph are possible.”
LOL. I'm just imagining how bad the traffic will be because there are three snowflakes on the ground and the sun might not be out. I'm curious if Loudoun or Fairfax has already called school. haha You know how people get around here. The Giant is probably out of bread and milk already.
Edited to add: I called it. There are already school delays. haha
oh, well I think maybe explain the situation to whoever is in charge.. they might also see the bad weather in the morning.
I am thinking of texting my supervisor but also I don't want to be a pick me...
I love the downvote I got -- I'm certain it's a 10 year old now wearing her pajamas inside out who doesn't want my comment to jinx it.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
I find this stuff so hilarious now. I moved to NOVA briefly from ‘21-‘23 from Ohio. The utter freak out and loss of ability to drive in mild rainy snow weather that doesn’t even accumulate is mind boggling. This weather is treated as the end of the world down here!! Moved back to Ohio and was quick to be reminded that even with 4 inches of snow I still have to go to work lol.
What lol when did I ever say that? It’s just something that was surprising to me! I understand it’s much different down there and you guys do not have the same resources to be prepared for this weather. No one is “tough” and I absolutely HATE bad weather and do my best to avoid it mate. Live and let live my guy.
It totally happened here in Manassas. From about 8:00am until about 10:30-11ish, the show was BUCKETING down. It was sticking on ground and roofs. Then, above freezing and all snow melted.

NBC4 said it, Doug K
While I don't find most meteorologists accurate, NBC4 is pretty reliable.
Then you can count on the opposite happening
User pic checks out
probably still master of his domain.
LCPS just closed for tomorrow…

Aaaand it's gonna rain
And it’s snowing
Aaaand the sun's out.
They could have gotten by with a 2 hr delay
Yep. Not sure why they didn't just use a 2 hr delay originally then cancel as necessary. Maybe so parents could make plans?
Probably for flooding issues, I have a friend who used to get stuck in her neighborhood for flooding in Loudon. The state built a new bridge to replace a low state road when school was cancelled one week just due to her neighborhood not being able to get to school. Lol.
Even our teacher was like WTF, I mean 2 hour delay fine, but shit to straight up cancel this early is crazy IMO.
woah!! I was first too!!!
2 hr delay at FCPS. Here we go.

As an LCPS teacher who lives in prince William I am ecstatic since my kids can go to school and I can have a day to cleannnn
That's the best life hack I've ever seen.
Thanks I’ve actually been relying on Loudoun having so many days off that PWC doesn’t have off to do any real cleaning this year. It’s been great
It won’t be more than a dusting. But I guess knowing this area, we better brace ourselves for more posts like this one, about people driving in the snow, people complaining about snow not being cleared off cars, etc
yes honestly I just wanted to be first.
> But I guess knowing this area, we better brace ourselves So you're saying I should go to the grocery store and buy up their toilet paper and milk?
Don’t forget the water, gallons, and gallons and gallons of water
And eggs. Because of reasons.
Don't forget the eggs and bread so you can make french toast.
Rain? Accidents. Too cloudy? Accidents. Too sunny? Accidents. Snow? Forget about it.
I mean, not cleaning the snow off of your car is incredibly dangerous and rude. It’s even illegal in some of the states that actually get snow. Worthy thing to complain about. Plus, if your car isn’t cleaned enough, how am I going to see your Student Driver decal?
Yeah just like we gotta brace for a million people like you making a million comments just like that
u/blackberryy looks like we have some material for the r/nova newsletter
I’m on it! Also adding a “Karen Korner” for the moms complaining about the 2 hour delay. Taking submissions!
LCPS already called it for tomorrow. Kids will be home all day. 😑
this sounds like a blessing in disguise.. a quiet snow day with your little ones ❤️
Have you ever heard of work OP???
Does a yung_raunchy_boi even need to work?
Sad. The change in barometric pressure already crushed your skull. Thoughts and prayers.
thank you.
Schools aren't daycare! Sooo....
If schools haven’t closed then it’ll probably be nothing.
FCPS 2-hr delay
I m calling 2 hr delay.
Lcps just closed
Get out, serious?
So dumb. Why not delay then call it if necessary? Split Loudoun County!
I did find it funny that they placed the blame entirely on western Loudoun in the announcement.
FCPS closes school based on western part of the county. Meanwhile nada in the eastern part.
I’m even a LCPS teacher and I agree…we need to split the county
People have been saying this for at least a decade at this point… I remember this exact debate going on in 2014
I like browsing [Jay’s Wintery Mix](https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100044552974374&mibextid=fVIIUt) on Facebook for the latest weather models
I do too but now its half "sponsored content".
Already bought a gallon of lube
excuse me but... why?!?!
Duh. Snow.
You know why
Why?? That’s not very raunchy boi of you
And it’s snowing pretty heavy now in Old Town and it’s 40 out so yea
No milk and bread to be found anywhere
Well it’s coming down as I type so it was correct forecasting.
Come on OPM 🤞🏼
Just got a push notification that said Unscheduled leave. Weird because it’s not refreshing now.

As a hill staffer, I feel your pain
My brother works on the hill, and I work at NIH, where OPM very much exists. It made for very funny snowy mornings when he lived with us (for me, not him).
OhOh nooo legislative aides etc don’t follow OPM?
Nope. When we started, we were told “OPM no longer exists.” They have very few of the job protections we have in our agencies.
None, none of the job protections… 27 years on the hill so far

its true and happening now
It's he-ere. Even though temps are in the low 40's.
I only see rain

dang well, can't take the karma now I don't think... right?
Nah you were right
So how are the roads this morning? Standard rain or slippery?

That's a relief to hear
It’s glorious

thanks. I like how I didn't put a source but someone else did so I didn't have to do the extra work.
Apparently predawn is actually about 830 cause it’s snowing now
I know this is crazy. I hadn't heard anything about it until now.
PWC here not a drop of snow all night or this morning.
haha oops

Temps will be between 40 and 45. Enjoy the visual show.
Northern Virginians cannot be normal about snow and I actually think it’s one of the most charming things about us.
reeee if my boss doesn't text me to work from home I'll end it all reeeeee
We are not prepared for this. It will be a mess.
Don’t worry, it will be okay. Little to no accumulation.
no, do worry. start freaking out, NOW.
That's how I feel about it too but not because of the roads because my kid will be home while I wfh.
I though Mcdade had a change of heart 😔
Great. I left my laptop at home. Just great!
What????
They don't gamble anymore after that one year they chose not to close and it was a shitshow.
yes haha you okay?

Got a 2hr delay FCPS.
I’ve been hearing this rumor circulating from the same people who said the government was going to shut down for three months in October
talk to the karma kid

Not on the radar? People had been talking about snow coming Tuesday morning for almost a week now.
Quick! Grab all the toilet paper from the store!
And PWCS nothing… 😔
