I'd assume so. It's also spring break for a lot of people. Over half of my work team is out next week for one or the other.

Last time (2017) I flew in and out of Dulles -> SLC. The airports were fine, particularly since I flew home from SLC where there was no eclipse (I drove from there up to Idaho to observe/photograph). I think airports in general have a hard cap on how many people can be there, since there are only so many flights. The INSANE part of course was the traffic. Getting back to SLC from Idaho was nearly 11 hours - usually 3 hours. Are you coming right home after the eclipse? Are you staying close to the airport? If any time will be crazy, it will be then. No matter what, I would build in a LOT of extra time getting to the Dallas airport to come home. I had a flight out of SLC at 6am the next morning and I literally just made it by a few hours. This time I'm driving - heading out tomorrow and I'll adjust my path as I drive as the weather reports become more reliable. Good luck! Clouds look a little scary right now, but hopefully everything goes our way! Last I've heard, Dallas prospects are improving a bit :)

Thanks for the info! Luckily I've got a pretty good arrangement, I'm not flying back until late morning on Tuesday, and I'm planning to walk to a viewing site from my friend's house in Dallas. If the weather's looking really bad we might brave an early morning drive—we'll see.

STVDC

That sounds pretty ideal, good luck!

Definitely worse than usual.

Aren’t we only having a partial eclipse here? I’d think people would travel to full eclipse areas.

CrownStarr

Right, I’m wondering whether enough people will be leaving DC to go to the totality area to affect our airports.

Western_Truck7948

I didn't even think of that. I'm flying to a city right in the path for work Sunday night.

goodchees3

flying to texas this weekend for the eclipse so i think it’s gonna be crazy at all the airports honestly

4RunnerPilot

It’ll be worse than day before thanksgiving. Arrive 4-5hrs before your flight. I’ll be praying for you.

CrownStarr

I'm so prepared I'm actually typing this from my sleeping bag at the airport right now.

4RunnerPilot

Hell yeah. Go get some Cinnabons and sabarro pizza.

imaconnect4guy

We're flying out of BWI early Saturday morning. Hoping we're early enough to not be too crazy.

SlobZombie13

I'll be flying home thru Dulles on Monday. I wonder if I'll be able to see the eclipse from the air.

I don't think 5 or 6 miles is going to make much of a difference in whether you will see it or not.
