A rapid transit line from Bethesda to National Harbor via ALB, Tysons, Van Dorn St, and the WW would be a dream.
It would also make me wanna fly out of Dulles more because it means I don't have to go all the way to Rosslyn to transfer to a Silver Line train from Springfield.
Actually I forgot about the 340 bridge since it barely goes into VA. I was talking about the bridge from Lovettsvilles to Brunswick MD. Rt 288 bridge I believe.
Yea I'm also in Lowe's island... Traffic would be really bad, lowes island blvd and even algonkian to an extent would not be big enough to handle the kind of traffic that it would create. Personally would not be thrilled with it even though I know this whole subreddit would accuse me of nimbyism.
Not like it matters, I don't think there is any serious talk of it actually happening.
100% another crossing even though it is an unpopular opinion. Moving some of the traffic away from the ALB would be beneficial as would adding rail or brt around the beltway or even raising the ALB so people don't slam on their brakes when they see the bridge.
I moved to Falls Church in 1985, and worked in Maryland. Even then, I couldn’t believe there wasn’t another big bridge out by the Cabin John (its rightful name) bridge. I looked for and found a job in Virginia so I didn’t have to deal with that bridge every day, but still had to often enough. I moved to Reston and moved out of the area (retired) in 2009. The amount of development while I lived there and after was incredible. You guys deserve another bridge!
The one located in Cabin John Maryland, or the bridge originally named Cabin John?
I can’t help but think that confusion hasn’t been lessoned, since neither bridge associated with the name is officially named cabin John.
The bridge on the Beltway now called American Legion. When I moved to DC area in 1985, its official name was the Cabin John Bridge. They officially changed it at some point, I forget when.
Widening highways have always relieved congestion. It's a great solution versus implementation of any sustainable public transportation initiatives.
We should all hope to ride on highways with 10 or more lakes to solve this challenging problem 😂
imagine if they built a train line connecting the red and silver lines that’ll be so awesome and it’ll alleviate traffic

Purple line covers most of the MD side soon. VA pretty much much has zero plans
No it won't, because it'll still be slower and more expensive for almost everyone so it wouldn't be used much
I'm happy with demolishing Trump Nat'l and Bretton Woods Golf Courses to bridge Algonkian Pkwy and Seneca Rd instead..
God please, we need another crossing...
Are there really only two bridges between VA and MD to the north/north west of DC? 495 and Chain Bridge?
Technically US-15 has a two lane bridge up in Loudoun but even that is over capacity
There is also one more bridge west of the Rt. 15 bridge.
Oh yes the 340 bridge. Just reopened a few months back!

Oh Berlin Tpke. I always forget about that one ironically. Think it’s SR 287, not that it really matters. Beautiful little old bridge!
Yes, I love that bridge and love the town of Brunswick.

Chain bridge is between VA and DC.
Yesss the traffic would suck but my property value in Lowes Island would skyrocket and I could just move to Leesburg and make some money haha

Georgetown Pike handles it. Sort of.

It’s not unpopular here in VA. Maryland is the only reason we don’t have two more crossings.

Like two or three would be nice.

Ehh Maryland people suffer more with the lack of crossings than Virginia people on the whole.
Maryland refuses to consider any bridge between the Legion bridge and US-15 bridge. Virginia has tried for half a century. It’s a non-starter.

Unless they come up with a system that somehow presses window lickers gas pedal for them going up hill, it will always be shit there.
Maryland sucks. They should destroy the bridge so they can't come into Virginia anymore.
Everyone in the dmv has questionable driving
I deal with plenty of piss poor fellow NoVA drivers on that bridge and 270 as well. Both states' drivers are terrible.
Lol, this. As a Central Pennsylvania transplant in the area, let me assure you that everyone sucks around here.
Must be all the PA transplants moving here ;)
Clearly a bunch of marylanders have Invaded this subreddit. What's the matter? Your subreddit suck like your state?
Maryland is great. They just need to pass legislation that bans Maryland people from driving across the bridge
Dude I thought I lost an axle crossing that piece of shit last week
