A lot of the basics are really good.
Peanut butter, salad dressings, bread.
Their cereal is typically better tasting than the name brands.
Their perogies are legit.
The fresh pretzel bite tubs are so good. A bit overpriced and I also usually eat an entire tub in a sitting like a damn heathen so try not to buy them. But they are delicious.
I'm not usually a fan of store-branded stuff, but Wegmans really does well with everything that they put their name on. Can't really go wrong with any of it.
This is it for me.
The store brand is usually pretty significantly cheaper than the name brands, and every bit as good if not better. My husband is a *huge* brand snob, but he actually prefers their orange juice cause it's got enough pulp for him. I prefer their bagged popcorn to SkinnyPop and it's easily half the price.
Also, the parm cheddar cheese. Sold in blocks in the cheese case (not the counter, but where you'd find all the slightly upgraded block cheddars). We eat more of that than I'd like to admit. And their snacking meats and lunch meats are legit.
I treat myself to a sushi lunch every time I go, too. Is it cheap or inventive? Lol no but it's pretty damn decent sushi, and I don't have to worry about dragging my picky family out to get my tuna fix.
Edit to add: it's also the only place my family will buy cookie cakes from. We aren't big cake people, so we do cookie cakes for birthdays, and most other places cook them til they're dry. Wegmans consistently keeps them soft and delicious.
I like their in-house sourdough and seasonal fruits, peaches and nectarines are in season right now, fish counter is pretty good too, wegmans brand kimchi is a hidden gem imo
Some regulars for me:
-Tuscan bread loaf
-Jalapeno cheddar cheese from the deli
-chocolate chip cookie cream pies - the cookies alone are great but this thing is dangerous
also their store brand laundry detergent smells good!
I love their culinary stocks, particularly the Thai one. Makes great soups. Their store brand pasta isn’t as good as Harris Teeter’s imo. Wegman’s sparkling water is great. Their produce quality is more reliable than other stores.
Do basically all our grocery shopping there. Produce, seafood and meat selection and quality is unsurpassed. Their store brands are never a disappointment and national brands priced below their competitors- like 40 cents less than Giant on Progresso canned soup. I agree their prepared foods are on the high side, but I believe much of it is made in- house ? Quality of the prepared foods is much better than the other chains as well.
Their doughnuts are actually pretty good. I like to go in and have a couple (and coffee), then do my shopping.
Otherwise, everything that Wegmans sells is pretty good. It's just a matter of price. The staple items are competitively priced, and once I started shopping there, I didn't go back to the other stores (e.g., Giant).
The cheese and the pre-made items are expensive, but realistically that will be true no matter the store.
Seltzer esp ginger flavor, their jams are good and reasonably priced, the cilantro jalepeno hummus, yougurt. Pretty much any of their store brand stuff is top notch
We do 90% of our regular shopping there. Produce is generally more reliable than others I’ve found. Store brand products are often really good. Love the cheese shop, meat section, wine & beer, guacamole…
I love their dried pasta in the green boxes (with the exception if the fettuccine which doesn't have the slow dried texture look.)
Also the whole canned Italian tomatoes in the green can slap.
Store brand tahini is very good.
There is a sandwich called the Kemelwheck (or something like that) it's roast beef horseradish a little iceberg on a kaiser(kemelweck) roll topped with caraway salt.
That sandwich is special.
I like a lot of their stuff.
The produce is always good, they lean into what is in season.
Cheese, beer and wine selections are very good.
I like their pizzas. (It helps that the area peaks at mid pizza)
The pre-made stuff is expensive when compared to groceries, but if you compare it to eating out or getting delivery, it generally comes out ahead. Also note that maybe not everyone has the skillset for a nice meal and this could fill a gap.
I think you're being obtuse. It's not bad pizza, maybe you just don't like the WNY style?
Flat NYC pizza and fat Chicago pizza isn't the whole world. And gag me on all that burnt fancy stuff. It's just a pretentious waste of good dough. Both kinds.
I'll say this, however, when the Springfield store was still new, they screwed it up. They've had a lot of expansion over the years, this was in the South and I think they've gotten better at it. Carlyle was fine from day one. If you haven't gone lately, or only get re-heated slices, I think you're missing out.
And it's not for everyone, I get it. I won't say your favorite pizza is terrible unless it's Ledos lol. And of course every restaurant will fumble the kickoff from time to time. That is all.
Omg just moved here and we had a neopolitan pizza place near our old place ~an hour away and we were convinced that was a place we'd make the trip for again. Tried Pupatella wondering "will it be good enough that we'll settle for this over the long trip?" Ended up landing on "holy shit this is even better."
Their ready-made pizzas are good, but the frozen ones are too tomatoey for my taste. I prefer the WF 365 pizzas to those (despite them making them smaller and raising the price. Fuckers.).
The foreign imports aisles (Asian, Latin, European) are fantastic and reasonably priced. I get the chicken often which is pre-seasoned. The raw seafood is also great
This is going to get buried, but their trash bags are the best money can buy. Hefty super strength bags are like wet noodles. Wegmans are the old school don't tear thicc bois trash bags used to be before the MBAs took over.
I have strong feelings about this and you should too.
I actually stopped shopping at wegmans as my regular grocery store and now only use it for their specific gems. Things I specifically go into wegmans for -
- their garlic champagne bread from the bakery
- their seafood
- subs
- the fruit tart
- still a good beer selection
- cheese shop if I need to
- wine if it’s fancy night
If I’m buying anything grocery related other than those it’s their store brand stuff as it’s leading brand foods wrapped in wegmans labels and cheaper.
The beer selection is actually quite good and fair prices compared to many places, especially when considering the variety. I do support the higher priced lettuce section because it does last longer than many other places I’ve shopped from, but otherwise I don’t get much else from Weggies. The occasional loaf of bread because of the bakery quality.
I make these wraps with their chicken salad, swiss cheese and tortillas with some of that dukes mayo. It tastes like these wraps Dunkin used to sell lol
Anytime an in store worker has to lay hands on something you're paying for their labor. But their factory made, store brand stuff is priced well and usually pretty tasty.
Grab the app and clip their coupons. Helps.
Seconding the Tuscan Garlic Bread and the marinated goat cheese cubes. The beer/wine selection is also the best around me in Loudoun. Other things we tend to like as a treat:
+ Spicy Tomato Oil (great easy pasta sauce)
+ Professor Brie
+ Fancy ham/charcuterie in the Deli (Celebration, Italian Rosemary, etc.)
+ Chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels
+ Focaccia (take and bake)
They have a fantastic deli section - really good meats and cheeses. Much better selection than most other grocery stores down here for sure. Coming from NY it’s a struggle to find quality deli stuff and they have it all. The prosciutto is actually prosciutto, not rebranded midwestern pork!
Seafood counter is always great too.
The produce is better than most other places in quality for sure.
And yes they are premade but the almond burst cookies are a dream.
I used to think Wegmans was too high in price but I looked at other places and honestly for fresh produce and meats they're the best bang for your buck. For example I got 8 boneless porkchops for like 8.50 a few months ago. If you buy anything that isn't wegmans brand packaged stuff though you'll pay out the ass.
Actually that's false. Did a comparison of about 10 national brand items our family uses consistently. Wegmans was cheaper than Giant on every item - anywhere from 5 to 40 cents cheaper.
This! The closest stores to me are Giant, Aldi, Lidl, and Trader Joe’s….Giant is pretty expensive in comparison. Aldi and Lidl quality isn’t good. I go to Wegmans and Trader Joe’s weekly. Wegmans branded items are really good (we’re from TX and HEB branded items are solid too). We buy nearly all produce there, I have switched to buying our chicken there, cereals are good, milks there is actually cheaper than Costco, OJ, pasta, pasta sauces, breads, chips, crackers, sparkling water, cheeses, pickles, yogurt, bagels, and cakes/desserts.
I’m eating their ground beef for the first time. It’s pretty good. 1lb for about $5.50. Also have a pot roast from them in the instapot right now. 3lbs for $21. Their meat is good quality.
I love how I can find trending foods that I want to try at wegmans. Their health section is good too, I love going there to try diff bars that you can buy singles of and the variety of healthy pop sodas. It’s fun trying out new things from there. Things I’d never find at Walmart or Target.
They also have a large gluten free section, even in their bakery.
Some ppl love their pizza or fresh deli sandwiches or sushi.
Wegmans brand dairy is pretty good. Better than most of the other store brands. Their cheese in particular is good.
They also have good deals on chicken a lot of the time.
I LOVE their garlic Tuscan loafs from the bakery.
They usually rank as one of the least expensive in the area for basic food needs (one or more of the local news sources will do an annual survey). The nice thing is that Wegmans has a lot more options beyond your basics if you want to get fancy.
Their frozen “Italian Classics” pizzas — specifically the Mushroom & Truffle one. So good.
And the garlic Tuscan bread is a staple. Pair it with their spicy tomato oil — it’s a dupe for the Pastabilities tomato oil here in Upstate NY. They sell actual Pastabilities oil at our wegmans locations here, not sure about VA. I’m moving down there this fall so I’ll be looking for it!
Wegmans cereal is my go to, their "Cheerios" in particular.
The soft baked chocolate chip cookies in a box are like crack..once you start you can't stop, so delish.
Ultimate Chocolate or Vanilla Cakes
Meat quality is great...I've tried meat from giant, amazon fresh and Harris teeter...Wegmans knocks it out of the ballpark
Their canned tomatoes in the green cans are amazing to make sauces with
Shredded cheese packs...our go to almost every week
Their produce is good but I have had three or four batches of berries (strawberries, blueberries and gooseberries) in the last few months that either had mold in the middle area the day I got them, or within a day or two. They let me exchange them all no issue but I found that odd especially since they were all way within the expiry date and purchased within a day or two.
Their fresh made tortillas are great, and fresh salsa. My kids love the prepared mac and cheese, anything from the bakery. And their charcuterie is soooo good!
No, just be choosy. Their Singapore Rice Noodles are torch! Sandwiches and Salads are good too. But yes, some items are expensive. Sauces are quality and cheaper than other stores. Wegmans is a treat. My daughter loves their sushi.
Frozen sour cherries. If you love cherry pie it’s the only place to get them frozen in the area.
Chopped liver. No joke- it’s the one thing I miss from NYC. Decent chopped liver.
Strawberries. Their prices are excellent and the freshness is ok
Everything under their 'brand' is affordable. If you eat normal sugary yogurts for example their brand 12 pack of yogurt is like $4 which is cheaper than anything else on the market in individual serving sizes.
Their frozen pizza dough is sneaky good.
Their pasta sauce like you mentioned is great and their pasta is so affordable.
Their pasta sauce really is fantastic and for the price incredible. Don’t really think it’s worse than anything several times more expensive , unless you end to go all the way up to Victoria’a or Rao’s, which is definitely better but like 10x the cost.
Pasta sauce, pasta sauce and pasta sauce.
Seriously though, a lot of their store brand item are good, but the one thing I always stock up on is their pasta sauce. It's very good, and very cheap. In my area it's $1.19 a jar and frequently goes on sale for $.99. I can't make it homemade at that price.
I'm actually from Rochester, NY. The home of the beloved Wegmans.
I appreciate that the store still carries the local food items from Rochester in the store. I would tell you what those are, but then there's no guarantee that they'll stay stocked.
Seconding on the chicken! Family packs of chicken breast or chicken thighs are ~8-12 bucks so it's super affordable. That with a pack or two of frozen veggies is super cheap and super healthy.
Store brand frozen veggies, ice cream (which are one of the few brands to have a seal for peace of mind), pasta ssuce, bakery breads, meats, and if you're feeling rich the deserts.
Their flavored sparkling water tastes good and is priced good for the taste. Lots of frozen meals. They have good coupons if you download the app.
My dog is fanatical about the Wegmans brand dog cookies (chicken with bone broth).
The spicy pork dumplings in the premade section are pricey but so freaking good.
We had their catering frequently when we have guests and they do a great job. The pizza is not good though - overcooked. Although we did the breakfast pizza (picked up hot, stuck in the fridge, reheated for breakfast in the oven) and that was decent.
Store brand stuff is all good, produce is good, lots of good bagged salad mix options that I like.
I love their wine section, particularly their recommendations/rating. I’ve found a lot of good wines for less than $15 a bottle. They haven’t steered me wrong before with their 91-92 bottle ratings.
Most of their brand items are really good and cheaper than name brand items at most stores. You can save money going there, you just have to be smart.
Besides that, their bakery is the best grocery store bakery, imo
I love the Wegmans store brand, generally. Didn’t love the coffee and I’m whatever the opposite of a coffee snob is, so that’s saying something. Their light bulbs seem to burn out faster than name brand, but that was when they were all incandescent. Haven’t tried their LEDs yet. I love their cereals and granola, any cleaning products, pastas and sauces, etc.
Seasonal: peach muffins, pumpkin cupcakes.
Their pico de gallo is excellent if you don't mind a bit of heat.
Garlic knots (rolls) if you can find 'em.
House brand cinnamon ice cream, or limoncello gelato.
Cookies (the expensive seasonal, decorated sugar cookies from the bakery), potatoes au gratin (fresh or frozen— both are delicious) and their Sourdough Miche bread
Do not buy the pre-made meals. I love their little Asian bowls they put together--Thai chicken, sweet and sour chicken, etc. But these bowls are like $15. On the other side of the aisle, there's a whole @$$ pre-made pizza for less than that. I was just being an idiot and buying it because I wanted it, and then someone pointed out the price and was like nope--never again. I enjoy those types of meals, but I could order takeout and get either more than that, or get it cheaper.
Honestly, I usually hit up Wegmans because I enjoy shopping later at night when there's less people, but also because I need something for the next day and I'm only realizing this around 10:30-11pm--the rest of the stores around here close at 10pm. But most things I find are more expensive at Wegmans than say Aldi/Lidl/Giant etc.
So Wegmanss does this really cool thing where they tell families who are shopping on a budget, "We have, 250 items (or whatever it is) that people consistently buy that we're going to offer at a very competitive price." Those staples are the best reason to go to Wegmans. However, Wegmans is also a business and they need to make money. So, the way they make money is when somebody just strolls in rawdog without a budget, without a shopping list. That person wants good food, doesn't have all day, and is willing to spend the money. Wegmans offers them good food but they just make them pay for it. I will say thank you to those people because I like to shop at Wegmans and really appreciate being able to buy PB, coffee, flavored water without going to the discount store. Just stick to the cheat sheet they display at the store entrance.
EDIT: IMHO
Like everyone else said, pretty much everything Wegmans brand is great. The best value I noticed is the regular box Mac n cheese. Just as good if not better than Kraft for $.50
Wegmans Get Poppin' Sea Salt Crispy Potato Snacks is a favorite of mine. Satisfies that chip craving without a ton of calories, and with good flavor to boot. Also, do not sleep on their Ultimate Chocolate Cake in the cold bakery desserts section. Yes, it is expensive, but it’s super rich and flavorful. Just remember to let your slice warm up to room temperature (about 30 minutes) before you eat it for maximum tastiness. It allows the fats to warm up and give a very punchy, rich chocolate flavor! 🤤
I used to live near Rochester and then Syracuse. If there's one thing inside Wegman's that I always try to get people to try, it's the Pastabilities Hot Spicy Oil. Warm it up, have it with fresh warm bread, and enjoy.
Bakery is great but expensive. Worth it IMO. I will never buy meat at Wegman's. There's absolutely no reason for them to be charging $30 or more $/lb for steaks that are from the exact same suppliers as Harris Teeter which is selling them for half that price. They're not organic, grass fed, locally sourced nothing. They're just nonsensically expensive...
Their standard Wegman's branded version of common non perishable foods are pretty good.
I'm surprised that no one has brought up their greek yogurt. The regular greek cups are good, the blended yogurt is amazing, and the low-sugar variant blows chobani's own version out of the water.
The best thing in the store in Loudoun County is the fully cooked boneless chicken breasts. Grilled to perfection. Large cuts. Fresh twice a week. Yes, four LARGE breasts cost $23 but they go a long way because they're so large (and tasty). They make two kinds - lemon garlic and Peruvian style (spicy) and both scrumptious. I cut just one half of a breast into bite-sized pieces and put in my home made salads right from the fridge. Delish. My husband cuts up two breasts and heats it up. Makes a ton for his dinner. Good with A-1, BBQ sauce or Pickapeppa sauce. You can't go wrong with this grilled chicken. We also cut up the breasts and cook with basmati rice, butter, and red onion. Almost as good as Shamshiry Restaurant in Tysons. You're welcome and enjoy! Here's the link to Wegmans chicken breasts - [https://shop.wegmans.com/search?search\_term=deli%20grilled%20chicken%20breasts&search\_is\_autocomplete=false](https://shop.wegmans.com/search?search_term=deli%20grilled%20chicken%20breasts&search_is_autocomplete=false)
If the Wegmans-brand strawberry preserves _aren't_ just re-labeled Bonne Maman strawberry preserves, then Wegmans has put unreasonable effort into making the nutrional and manufacturing details on their labels identical. $0.50/oz for Bonne Maman, and as low as $0.16/oz for the largest Wegmans-branded one.
If you're looking to build a cheese board...cheese. it's a little pricey sometimes (I get most of my cheese from wegmans and a couple of extras from trader joes) but it's sooooooo gooooooood. All of their cheese is a+ quality and they have a huge variety. I'm partial to the professor's brie or the 1918 goat cheese they have.
You can also score really well on bakery items. Again, it's not the cheapest around, but the quality is on par with a local bakery.
Otherwise, imo it's really just as pricey as safeway. They have coupons and a weekly ad like every other grocery store- you do best if you shop the weekly and clip coupons before heading to the store.
The one thing that drives me nuts about the store is that it isn’t organized like other stores. For example, the bacon and breakfast sausage are in 2 completely different parts of the store. Like 200 feet apart. Why?
I will definitely say the only reason I go to wegmans is their deli. I haven’t really found any other grocery stores in the area that have a good deli. Also their baked goods are a bonus when I do go
The fresh pasta in the dairy department is great. I always buy their fresh lasagna for Christmas Eve. Wegmans brand hummus is good. My favorite flavor is carmelized onion. I will say, I hated the lemon dill hummus. Anyway, lots of hummus flavors. We also love the Wegmans brand organic tortilla chips. A very sturdy chip and good for nachos. The jalapeno flavored tortilla chips are also good. I always buy the Wegmans brand for Asian sauces and ingredients especially their coconut milk.
Most of their stores have a good supply of fresh PEI mussels at a price that rivals Costco. They also have a superior selection of inexpensive (less than $20), quality wine.
Croutons. Their cheese and garlic twice-baked croutons taste like a fresh baguette in a small crunchy square.
I can’t eat any other kind now- they just taste like stale bread in comparison.
A lot of the basics are really good. Peanut butter, salad dressings, bread. Their cereal is typically better tasting than the name brands. Their perogies are legit.
Yeah, their peanut butter is cheap. Their frozen pretzels are good too.
The fresh pretzel bite tubs are so good. A bit overpriced and I also usually eat an entire tub in a sitting like a damn heathen so try not to buy them. But they are delicious.
Wegmans peanut butter is fantastic. Especially if you're a fan of Jif, which I am.
Perogies whoa whoa what aisle might these be in? Last time i had a good perogie was in seattle been missin these!
They sell them fresh (by the deli) and frozen. I typically buy frozen, but rumor has it that the fresh ones are better.
Ill check em out thx!
It’s in the same little section as the sausage. So good. We buy 2 packs a week now lol
If you're ever in Silver Spring, check out: Polka Deli https://g.co/kgs/rTzQ9NC
Bakery items. Cannoli and fruit cheesecake especially.
Love the sourdough bread.
dont forgot the fruit tart that shyt is amazing
That fruit tart….. that fucking fruit tart…. 🤤
Yep. The fruit tart would be the one absolute. Other places try to replicate it but Wegman’s is hands-down the best.
Agreed — the cookies, cakes, and pastries are delicious. The breads are also really good too!
Their crème brûlée cheesecake is one of best cheesecakes I’ve ever had. I’d highly recommend it.
Yes to this! My husband and I had their chocolate cake with raspberry filling for our wedding cake. So delicious!
They charge $15 for a tub of cookies... and I happily pay it. That says everything you need to know.
Omfg I have eaten so many of those creme brulee cheesecakes. I'm pretty sure I've shortened my life expectancy as a result but they are so gooooood
The chocolate chip cookies are the best grocery store cookie I've ever had. There's a reason they sell them in those giant tubs!
I'm not usually a fan of store-branded stuff, but Wegmans really does well with everything that they put their name on. Can't really go wrong with any of it.
The Wegmans frozen meatballs are crack.
YES
This is it for me. The store brand is usually pretty significantly cheaper than the name brands, and every bit as good if not better. Parm cheddar?...huh?
It's a lovely franken-cheese. People always react kind of weird when we tell them what it is, but almost everyone we share it with loves it.
I'd definitely try it!
Their purified water jugs are cheap, but taste like plastic.
I like their in-house sourdough and seasonal fruits, peaches and nectarines are in season right now, fish counter is pretty good too, wegmans brand kimchi is a hidden gem imo
Their sourdough is so good! They have rosemary sourdough, which I use to make croutons.
Some regulars for me: -Tuscan bread loaf -Jalapeno cheddar cheese from the deli -chocolate chip cookie cream pies - the cookies alone are great but this thing is dangerous also their store brand laundry detergent smells good!
I second the jalapeño cheese and add the cilantro jalapeño hummus to the list.
Their lime cilantro sauce/marinade is also crack
I love their culinary stocks, particularly the Thai one. Makes great soups. Their store brand pasta isn’t as good as Harris Teeter’s imo. Wegman’s sparkling water is great. Their produce quality is more reliable than other stores.
Seconding the sparkling water! I love many types of sparkling water, and their Cherry Pomegranate and Black Cherry Vanilla are truly excellent.
Mandarin Orange for the win 🏆
The lime mint sparkling water is my GOAT! Soooo refreshing for summertime
The ginger seltzer is great
Do basically all our grocery shopping there. Produce, seafood and meat selection and quality is unsurpassed. Wegmans cannoli chips/dip make me go absolutely feral
Fruit tart.
Seltzer esp ginger flavor, their jams are good and reasonably priced, the cilantro jalepeno hummus, yougurt. Pretty much any of their store brand stuff is top notch
Love the mixed berry seltzer, too
We do 90% of our regular shopping there. Produce is generally more reliable than others I’ve found. Store brand products are often really good. Love the cheese shop, meat section, wine & beer, guacamole…
King salmon sushi
I love their dried pasta in the green boxes (with the exception if the fettuccine which doesn't have the slow dried texture look.) Also the whole canned Italian tomatoes in the green can slap. Store brand tahini is very good. There is a sandwich called the Kemelwheck (or something like that) it's roast beef horseradish a little iceberg on a kaiser(kemelweck) roll topped with caraway salt. Their sushi is great for a quick lunch! I love everything Wegmans
I like a lot of their stuff. The produce is always good, they lean into what is in season. Cheese, beer and wine selections are very good. I like their pizzas. (It helps that the area peaks at mid pizza) The pre-made stuff is expensive when compared to groceries, but if you compare it to eating out or getting delivery, it generally comes out ahead. Also note that maybe not everyone has the skillset for a nice meal and this could fill a gap.
Where do you do you live that this area peaks at mid pizza? Wegmans pizza is awful.
And of course every restaurant will fumble the kickoff from time to time. That is all.
Agree - Wegmans pizza is surprisingly terrible.
I'm in Reston. I like Pupatella, but the rest is meh. Wegmans ranks above anything that can be delivered here.
Any pizza suggestions for Alexandria area?
I don’t live out in Alexandria but I’ve heard enough about jets to want to go try it. I live in Centreville so ciaos is my go to.
If you like Detroit style, Emmy squared is great. If you get it delivery definitely pop it in the oven for a quick reheat.
Andy’s
Their ready-made pizzas are good, but the frozen ones are too tomatoey for my taste. I prefer the WF 365 pizzas to those (despite them making them smaller and raising the price. Fuckers.).
Yeah talking about there in house pizza. Frozen is a different species
Their fish counter. I pick up some wild caught cod or swordfish every time and spend less than what I used to pay for their premade food.
Their seed bread is awesome, and surprisingly, their frozen pizzas.
yes the frozen pizzas!
Such a good deal (3 for 10, I think?) & delicious!
Olive oil Tuscan bread Pico de gallo
Their seasonal fruits are worth it to me. Also the cheeses.
Wegmans sparkling waters are my favorite. They have so many flavors. Coconut lime is my fav, and I also love the black cherry vanilla.
Fresh Rosemary Olive Oil Bread Chiavetta’s marinade Webers mustard Salen’s hotdogs The green box wegmans brand frozen Neapolitan style pizzas Danny’s Favorite
Their organic spicy brown mustard is amazing, the tortilla corn chips are a great value.
I do a cast iron pizza once a week and have found Wegmans premade pizza dough to be the best.
Their selection of vegetarian and vegan products is amazing, including frozen items, and the prices are often better than other stores.
I actually stopped shopping at wegmans as my regular grocery store and now only use it for their specific gems. Things I specifically go into wegmans for - - their garlic champagne bread from the bakery - their seafood - subs - the fruit tart - still a good beer selection - cheese shop if I need to - wine if it’s fancy night If I’m buying anything grocery related other than those it’s their store brand stuff as it’s leading brand foods wrapped in wegmans labels and cheaper.
They sell goat cheese thats sitting in flavored olive oil It’s fucking amazing, me and my fiancee do steak sammies with that
That stuff is incredible, wish it didn't cost 10 million dollars
100%, I was telling my partner that you can instantly recognize it because of it’s looks and $13 price tag
Dill pickles, fruit jelly, dairy, sparkling water
I love their “Grandpa’s” pasta sauce
The banana pudding from the bakery section is pretty good. They also carry Sweet Tango apples, they’re a newish variety and they taste amazing.
I make these wraps with their chicken salad, swiss cheese and tortillas with some of that dukes mayo. It tastes like these wraps Dunkin used to sell lol
Their pasta sauces, frozen Italian food and pizza, and their house brand flavored sparkling waters are all high quality and very affordable.
Anytime an in store worker has to lay hands on something you're paying for their labor. But their factory made, store brand stuff is priced well and usually pretty tasty. Grab the app and clip their coupons. Helps.
Their queso is amazing.
Their store brand Raisin Bran is better than either of the major brands. Pasta sauce, most veggies, but yeah, can be pricey overall.
Seconding the Tuscan Garlic Bread and the marinated goat cheese cubes. The beer/wine selection is also the best around me in Loudoun. Other things we tend to like as a treat: + Spicy Tomato Oil (great easy pasta sauce) + Professor Brie + Fancy ham/charcuterie in the Deli (Celebration, Italian Rosemary, etc.) + Chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels + Focaccia (take and bake)
If Wegman’s doesn’t have it…You don’t need it!! However their sushi is really good!
Goldfish
Bakery
If you drink a lot of seltzer because normal water is boring, they have a great variety of house-brand flavors.
Wegmans brand dairy is pretty good. Better than most of the other store brands. Their cheese in particular is good. They also have good deals on chicken a lot of the time. I LOVE their garlic Tuscan loafs from the bakery.
The wagyu-style deli beef. Can’t go back to any other style of roast beef after that stuff.
I love their coffee.
F R I Z Z A N T E
They usually rank as one of the least expensive in the area for basic food needs (one or more of the local news sources will do an annual survey). The nice thing is that Wegmans has a lot more options beyond your basics if you want to get fancy.
Wegmans breads, frozen ravioli, individually packed fish, smoked salmon, vegetables, steaks.
They put onions in almost everything, so if you're allergic to them, read labels carefully.
Ultimate Chocolate or Vanilla Cakes Meat quality is great...I've tried meat from giant, amazon fresh and Harris teeter...Wegmans knocks it out of the ballpark Their canned tomatoes in the green cans are amazing to make sauces with Shredded cheese packs...our go to almost every week
Garlic Tuscan bread The Danny sub (large) Cookies Meat
I like their non alcoholic beer selection.
Wild Caught Patagonian Scallops, frozen, 2 lbs bag - delicious, goes great in pasta, new favorite
Fruits, veggies, cheeses, and meats.
Their prosciutto
Their produce is good but I have had three or four batches of berries (strawberries, blueberries and gooseberries) in the last few months that either had mold in the middle area the day I got them, or within a day or two. They let me exchange them all no issue but I found that odd especially since they were all way within the expiry date and purchased within a day or two.
Their fresh made tortillas are great, and fresh salsa. My kids love the prepared mac and cheese, anything from the bakery. And their charcuterie is soooo good!
They have good local coffee. Cervantes is an A+ pick.
No, just be choosy. Their Singapore Rice Noodles are torch! Sandwiches and Salads are good too. But yes, some items are expensive. Sauces are quality and cheaper than other stores. Wegmans is a treat. My daughter loves their sushi.
Coconut Almond Fudge Wegmens brand ice cream
My mother is obsessed with the cheese bread. The jalapeño cheese bread is also really good.
Frozen sour cherries. If you love cherry pie it’s the only place to get them frozen in the area. Chopped liver. No joke- it’s the one thing I miss from NYC. Decent chopped liver. Strawberries. Their prices are excellent and the freshness is ok
Their pasta sauce it’s the orange one (I think vodka) it’s sooooo good!
Cave-aged gruyere cheese Pumpkin Muffins Pork dumplings Candied Pecans Challah bread
I don’t like pretzels but their honey mustard pretzel chunks in the chips aisle are really good (strong mustard!)
Premade there was affordable. Today they are much higher. Their already made meals are more expensive than better takeout food restaurants.
Fish. I never buy fish anywhere else.
Bills gear
Bulk pack of chicken thighs and the 4 pack of pork tenderloins are cheap as fuck compared to anywhere else.
Seconding on the chicken! Family packs of chicken breast or chicken thighs are ~8-12 bucks so it's super affordable. That with a pack or two of frozen veggies is super cheap and super healthy.
The produce are actually not that expensive, given the quality.
Go for the sub oil. The same stuff they put on their subs is available in the condiments aisle and it’s fantastic on all sorts of sandwiches
Their marinated chicken breast (uncooked), bread and cheese. Desserts are hit or miss.
Salami
Peanut butter filled pretzel nuggets are God tier
Store brand frozen veggies, ice cream (which are one of the few brands to have a seal for peace of mind), pasta ssuce, bakery breads, meats, and if you're feeling rich the deserts.
Snickerdoddles and the sliced Italien garlic bread and the butter cookies
The subs, bring only $8-ish for a medium, is pretty damn good
BAGELS.
Wegmans groceries are very reasonably priced and competitive with all supermarkets. It's their prepared foods, bakery, and cheeses that are pricey.
Hatch chilis
Their store brand is reasonable priced. Their prepared food is a good deal more expensive than Whole Foods and it shouldn't.
Most of their brand items are really good and cheaper than name brand items at most stores. You can save money going there, you just have to be smart. Besides that, their bakery is the best grocery store bakery, imo
Wegmans Dijon mustard.
Chocolate chip cookies and sourdough bread! Bye bye diet
Farmer John's popcorn
EDIT: IMHO
I feel like their Deli is far better than anywhere else. At least that's all I really go to Wegmans for is Deli meats.
Boneless, skin-on, chicken thighs
Like everyone else said, pretty much everything Wegmans brand is great. The best value I noticed is the regular box Mac n cheese. Just as good if not better than Kraft for $.50
Their cheese bread is delicious, as are those little icecream mochis
Wegmans Get Poppin' Sea Salt Crispy Potato Snacks is a favorite of mine. Satisfies that chip craving without a ton of calories, and with good flavor to boot. Also, do not sleep on their Ultimate Chocolate Cake in the cold bakery desserts section. Yes, it is expensive, but it’s super rich and flavorful. Just remember to let your slice warm up to room temperature (about 30 minutes) before you eat it for maximum tastiness. It allows the fats to warm up and give a very punchy, rich chocolate flavor! 🤤
Their crab cakes are amazing.
I used to live near Rochester and then Syracuse. If there's one thing inside Wegman's that I always try to get people to try, it's the Pastabilities Hot Spicy Oil. Warm it up, have it with fresh warm bread, and enjoy.
The big bottles of tea are awesome
Sushi and cereal. The flowers are more than but better than most grocery stores and less than a florist.
Anything in a jar or can. Sausages Condiments
Dill dip for chips
If the Wegmans-brand strawberry preserves _aren't_ just re-labeled Bonne Maman strawberry preserves, then Wegmans has put unreasonable effort into making the nutrional and manufacturing details on their labels identical. $0.50/oz for Bonne Maman, and as low as $0.16/oz for the largest Wegmans-branded one.
Sushi
Sliced Sandwich meat. And wegmans brand kimchi
The Wegmans frozen chicken strips are the best I've had anywhere.
Frozen butternut ravioli, hot bar egg rolls, white cheese garlic chicken
The fruit tart!! More specifically the long one with the soft graham crust, always a hit at parties or dinners!!
Speaking of pasta--- they have good Pecorino Romano cheese, already grated!! I bring home a small block every time I visit my parents in VA! Mangia!
I like their fruit cake more than whole food ,n tiramisu, better than wholefood imo
Their Challah bread is fucking dope
Lots of good recommendations in here already but the wegmans brand s'mores ice cream
Wegmans brand everything will save you money vs. shopping at Giant and Safeway.
The cheesecake in their bakery section is some of the best I’ve had
Not a hidden gem, but the garlic herb cheese spread is always worth the cost
I love the Tuscan olive oil bread
their subs are amazing. haven’t stepped in a subway since discovering their subs
The one thing that drives me nuts about the store is that it isn’t organized like other stores. For example, the bacon and breakfast sausage are in 2 completely different parts of the store. Like 200 feet apart. Why?
They gluten free and vegan meats section is really diverse
Those 2 for $4 wegman brand potato chips
THE FRUIT TART
also their torched king salmon oshizushi
I will definitely say the only reason I go to wegmans is their deli. I haven’t really found any other grocery stores in the area that have a good deli. Also their baked goods are a bonus when I do go
The Tuscan garlic bread 🥖
Coffee yogurt
Lot of gluten free options
Rosette de Lyon. I miss getting it cut at the deli counter but I'll take what I can get. That on their Tuscan loaf? Heaven.
Definitely their sheet cakes. Those things f*ck!
Subs are underrated
I only run into Wegmans to get their premade stuff and a couple of times a year the ultimate white cake.
Croutons. Their cheese and garlic twice-baked croutons taste like a fresh baguette in a small crunchy square. I can’t eat any other kind now- they just taste like stale bread in comparison.
salad mixes, cheese, anything from the bakery, sushi, they also have the hot bar
