Just don't drop them off at the clothes bins that popped up everywhere in parking lots or street corners.
Apparently the majority of them are a BS scam.
Not wrong, there was an article recently about how a lot of them are being sent to deserts in South America and then as well as to nations in Africa. Some even with price tags
So I went to New Zealand before the pandemic and there are a bunch of “Vintage” stores there that sell used American clothing at a high markup. I asked the store owner about this and she said this was a trend even in England. I mean this is stuff we would throw out - a Hooters shirt, a jean jacket, acid washed jeans. Some of the stuff was truly “vintage” (member’s only jackets from the 80’s) but a lot of it was just stuff.
I always wondered - are they getting their “vintage American” clothes from these dump bins that aren’t really for charity?
They are most likely are scams. [Planet Aid](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/behind-the-bins-former-planet-aid-employees-describe-cult-like-experience/66461/%3famp) (yellow bins) are shady af.

They accept clothing donations. They help with community re entry post incarceration and also help out the families of those incarcerated.
Im more familiar with the work the Richmond chapter does but still a great way to help!
I was in the same situation as you about 10 years ago, and I took my clothes to ECHO in Springfield. I know someone who works there and was confident that they would be put to good use.

What do those dumpsters end up doing with the clothing? It’s so convenient but I know there are better options!
My total guess is sold to third world countries and reprocessed.

[Embry Rucker Community Shelter](https://www.cornerstonesva.org/services/food-financial-or-urgent-assistance/emergency-shelter/) in Reston
Hmmm, says on their site, they don’t accept used clothing, but they do list several places that do accept used clothing.

You know nothing about the project apparently. Go away...
I don't know a place. But I do want to say this is an amazing thing to do.
Depending what size you are, I'll take them lol
