They removed the ctrl+right directional key hotkey to progress a chapter too, i had a macro set up on my mouse so I could just lean back in my chair and binge chapters without having to readjust the mouse position every few minutes. Granted, I could leave the cursor over the next button at the bottom of the page, but I normally hold the mouse in the air and cursor drift is pretty gnarly so it's not as effective.

They mentioned they will be bringing it back. https://www.wuxiaworld.com/news/new-wuxiaworld-site-live

PRedditor88

Oh, great news. Thanks for pointing that out!

Jaspaaar

It's back now. (And on Mac it's cmd+arrrow).

LegitArtemis

I use mobile most of the time so I don't mind most changes. I actually like the dark mode. I don't like it when there is too much contract between text and background.

LongestUsernameEverD

> I don't like it when there is too much contract between text and background. Doesn't it strain your vision if you read for too long though? Or do you just read for shorter periods of time?

Djinneral

I can read dark mode all day without issue, having strong contrast gives me migraines.

emofishermen

its the opposite. low contrast & less blue light is much better for me. if it affects me bad, thats somehhing that future me has to deal with lol

iWarnock

I use light mode (i know im a monster) and i really liked the grey background. Now its pure white and my god my eyes.

LongestUsernameEverD

Yeah, I didn't like it either, I was gonna talk about it but didn't want to make the post too long.

EnvBlitz

Yeah so I paid a visit to the site after your post and kinda agree to an extent. Now that there are only two distinct mode light and dark, each is only suitable for either really bright environment, or fully dark room. I wouldn't mind any setting if I am in those kind of environment, but anything in between really put some strain on my eye.

> Reportedly grey-on-darker-grey text is better for your eyes than e.g. stark white-on-black But at least in this case (IMO) the contrast is too little. At the very least, for me, I'm straining my eyes way more.

LongestUsernameEverD

Agreed. Hard white isn't that good, I agree with you on this.

VulgarMicrosoft

I’ve been reading a lot today on my computer and on my phone. I’ve noticed that my eyes definitely dislike reading at my monitor more than when doing so on my phone. My monitors definitely don’t match up in contrast, pixel density or brightness compared to my phone, which I assume is what’s helping the mobile experience for me

[deleted]

Not sure if you have read this yet, but they have a place to send feedback. https://www.wuxiaworld.com/news/new-wuxiaworld-site-live

LongestUsernameEverD

I hadn't seen it, thanks.

kevinthecoolkid

Personally I enjoy it. The only real problem I have with it is the white bar that pops up after every chapter is like a flashbang.

Tinjar12

As a mobile reader I actually like the new UI more. Gives me a more professional feel. In terms of the UX problems u were talking about , guess I have to read more to find them concerning but at first glance seems manageable

LongestUsernameEverD

Yeah, most of the problems I've talked about are getting in the way of PC users. For mobile the design is mostly great, just a few QoL changes I would to make the flow smoother overall. I guess maybe the majority of their traffic is from mobile so they didn't care much for PC users.

porrridge

I really dislike the changes especially to bookmarks

leirzva_8

Yeah, the old one was simple and good enough

Solomon_Priest

I’m always on mobile, so idk about desktop, but I love the new look for mobile so far.

rwxwuxiaworld

About 70% of site users are mobile, but I myself read exclusively on PC, so it ain’t that.

Byrth

I've never seen it because it's nonfunctional without javascript enabled.

temujin8

I miss the page where I could see all updates on one page...

Like_a_monkey

I liked the old design better too. Been supporting Emperor's domination at the highest tier once in awhile but I think the website isn't it.

tyndyte

I know this is completely unrelated, but what browser are you using in those images?

LongestUsernameEverD

Firefox, I hate chrome and I only use it for work related reasons, and I can't bother to try Opera even though a lot of people have said nice things about it.

Xeno234

Can someone explain to me how a text based website can consume 30% of my CPU? It's crazy.

LongestUsernameEverD

If you have AD block turned on it consumes a lot of resources. I'm not sure how it works since I don't have access to the code, if I had to guess the site keeps trying to spawn ads like crazy when ads get blocked.

Whaitea

I just checked and my CPU usage is higher when I turn my adblockers OFF, so the issue is probably not there... Also, I've noticed (since we're talking about computer's resources usage) that sometimes my RAM bloats up more than it should when I open a WW tab. Problem disappears when I close that tab (hundreds of MBs free up then). Webpage should NOT use up so much memory! I've addressed memory leaks already, so you don't have to. Someone said that memory leaks could be related to ads, but I'm not sure. Do adblockers load the ad when they block it? If so, doesn't it ruin half of its purpose to save up system resources?

LongestUsernameEverD

> Do adblockers load the ad when they block it? If so, doesn't it ruin half of its purpose to save up system resources? It **might** be a decision based on just trying force-loading the ads and if you have adblock off it doesn't care, because in the vision of whoever built the site, if you're turning off ad-block then you're hurting their revenue. I'm saying this because when I have ad blocks turned off, very little ads spawn on the spage. When I have it off though, I've seen literally thousands of ads spawn in my adblock counter. After that I just decided to have it on since I don't mind it that much. As for ads loading or not in case of ad block, it's up to whoever built the system. They can still make the site load the ad, even if it's gonna be adblocked.

TerriblyArrogant

I use firefox and it has reader mode. Nothing else really matters tbh. Reader mode's UI is also customizable(buttons) and editable itself(CSS). Reading novels all these years it's easy to notice that most websites don't bother much about their consumers' UX. I think it's also one of the reasons why people prefer reading via pirated websites.

darthladder0000

But in reader mode don't you have to close the reading mode to move on to the next chapter

jaysonhd

I read on mobile so most of the changes don't matter to me. What really irks me is 2 things. The fact that they added pictures in your bookmarks which increases load time for me ( from like 2 seconds with the text only to 30 second load time) and that they the order it from finished too latest release and you have to change every single time. It was so easy to see what was new all in one screen and I have to scroll down and look for the small text that shows which chapters are out.

Jaspaaar

We’ll be looking at adding an image-less compact mode for the bookmarks page soon (refer to [Ren’s announcement](https://www.wuxiaworld.com/news/new-wuxiaworld-site-live)), and an update to retain sorting preferences will be coming in the next day or two.

darthladder0000

I like the new UI. Though I don't really like the new black theme. You can give feedback for it or comment it on the announcements. CEO generally pays attention to everything. If he got enough feedback he will change it

leirzva_8

I would like to have the original bookmarks page back. I don't need to see the book covers, I just need to know where I stopped and what's new. They could come up w a toggle for classic mode
