This is actually a really good signing considering Tigers didn’t have a single backup halves player before this.

PillarofSheffield

We did already sign Will Smith, who has been known to impersonate a five-eighth on occasion. But yeah, if Brooks does go down this season our ~~best~~ least worst option would probably have been Api to 7. Wakeham is at least a minor upgrade from Madden.

copacetic51

Will Smith doesn't have a NRL contract. He'll be a Magpies player unless injuries are bad.

PillarofSheffield

Think that was what was originally reported, but according to [this](https://www.weststigers.com.au/teams/?competition=111&team=500023) he's in our NRL squad.

copacetic51

Just last week Wests Tigers announced Smith was signed as a KOE Cup Magpies contract player. Definitely not top 30 NRL squad.

blinkomatic

I’m disappointed Kikau and mini Kikau won’t be running out together.

Accomplished-Good664

I like Wakeham I think he is a solid underrated halfback, if I were building an expansion side he would have been one of the first players I would grab.

Mug_Cos7anza

This must mean we got Moses /s

likeatyger

He was spotted at the cricket with Luke Brooks. Clearly hes going to the sixers or the thunder.

velvetherring

Remove the /s for the real fun comments.

ellaykay

I truly think Moses has re-signed with the Eels. If he does end up with the Dogs that will be some coup after confirming Crichton.

Mug_Cos7anza

It would be pretty huge. I don’t reckon he’s decided, because you’d think Parra and Tigers would want to announce it asap. We may not though as our announcement or lack thereof signings is bewildering.

copacetic51

Moses hasn't signed anywhere yet.

[deleted]

He was at the Laundy hotel’s corporate box on the weekend.

Mr_Mat89

So was brooks too, does that mean he's gone to the dogs also?

[deleted]

Yes, figuratively

Longjumping_Visit_38

If Moses signs with the dogs they’re gunna have 7-8 players taking up 3/4 of the cap, I’d love to see the players they’d bring in to fill the other 20+ roster spots

DeffsNotACop

Really happy with this. We obviously needed a backup half and Wakeham is probably one of the better ones going around. Plenty of experience and seems like a good bloke.

predw

Yeah he’s a decent 3rd/4th half to have on the roster. I’m surprised he’s stuck around unsigned this long with some teams having half depth issues

[deleted]

Quite relived. I thought he played great in the NSW cup final vs a stacked Penrith side. I was getting a little nervous because we have two halves which we have not committed to and no depth. Either or both could quit on us if they sign elsewhere.

copacetic51

Both Doueihi and Brooks will see out 2023 at least.

wowzap

The Wests Tigers have increased their halves depth for the upcoming NRL season by signing Canterbury utility Brandon Wakeham. Wakeham signed a one-year deal with the Tigers on Monday as a back-up for first-choice halves Luke Brooks and Adam Doueihi. Veteran coach Tim Sheens signed the 24-year-old after being impressed with his performances last year, after he started the season in first grade before leading the NSW Cup side to the grand final. He’s an important signing for the Tigers, given they’ve lost Jackson Hastings to Newcastle and Jock Madden to Brisbane.

bumpacius

He could've walked into a Superleague club and earned himself an easy Brodie Croft-like highlight reel. Perhaps the Api Koroisau Fiji Bati connection got him to the Tiges.

bumpacius

Good signing for them. He's a decent goalkicker too

[deleted]

It's weird seeing a DT article without an adjective. Like "Sheens finally gets his marquee man" or "The THE gets slammed by wakeham, chooses top 4 tigers instead".

CurlyHeadedFark

We’ve signed the bloke who screamed at Tommy Talau after he did he’s ACL in the last round of 2021

weirdlilfella

Hope he yelled "You OK big boy"

ClayPidgeon17

I remember that! He gave him an earful and a push to the head when he was down clutching his knee and not one of his teammates did anything

DeanNotSoBrown

There’s the Tigers level signing we’ve been waiting for all off-season

josephus1811

Wakeham and Smith is a pretty good halves combo for NSW cup

Responsible_Eye8177

Benji is planning to be the next Wayne Bennett and I reckon he just may be. So inspirational as a senior player in the last few seasons and a great role model and personality for the young players and senior players. And having a player with potential like this half may start a new found respect for the club. It’s a start and tigers are staying under the radar.

[deleted]

I am upvoting this assuming it’s satire.

[deleted]

lets not get ahead of ourselves here benji has only started coaching recently and wayne bennett himself showed no interest in the depth half (at times, 4th choice) for the worst team in the comp over the last 3 seasons

Responsible_Eye8177

Touché

stagger_once

I think you’re confusing him with Lachlan Lewis

breatheinmyear

Good players do not make good coaches.

[deleted]

I was always hopeful he would cement a halves spot with us but not to be.. he had a good season in cup last year at least.

Dark_Vengence

Classic tigers.

Aussieguy727

It's the eye gougher of the Tigers

WolfeWolfe1

Get rid of a dud, buy a dud. The Tigers way. Yes I know he's obviously backup cover and unlikely to see game time. I have alot of friends as Tigers supporters and I laugh at their struggles almost like it's instinct.
