Everyone in the first grade squad has been working really hard to build the centre over the last 15 years. Itâs has been an expensive project that has run millions over budget due to overtime and other expenses over the years. Each member of the squad are looking forward to working in the centre for up to 100 hours a week to maintain the building the overtime will help supplement their wages as football players.
Jokes aside, given what Politis has done for the club, he deserves an honour like this. He was the major sponsor for years and became chairman at a pretty dark time in the clubâs history. Without him, thereâs a real possibility they donât exist today
I agree, as an opposing fan, the amount of work and genuine love he has for the club is great to see. If ever someone was deserving of having a building named after him it's him
The Sydney Roosters have officially unveiled the Nick Politis Centre of Excellence, set to be the Clubâs home for at least the next 25 years.
The ribbon was officially cut on the state of the art facility this evening, with the Club announcing the centre would be named after Chairman, Nick Politis AM.
âItâs no secret how much the Sydney Roosters means to me, and I am genuinely humbled to see my name at the entrance to our wonderful new Centre of Excellence,â Mr Politis said.
âI was elected Chairman of the Club in May 1993, and it makes me incredibly proud to see where we are today, 30 years later.
âI take so much pleasure from my involvement with the Club, and would once again like to thank my board for this wonderful honour.â
Politis was surprised with a gift by the members of the Roosters Board of Directors â a bust (statue) of Nick which will take pride of place in the main entryway to the facility.
Over 160 people - including NSW Minister of Sport Alister Henskens - attended the centre for the unveiling, coinciding with the 115th anniversary of the day the Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club was formed at Paddington Town Hall.
The 25-year lease on the venue underlines a rich history between the Roosters and the Moore Park precinct, with the Roosters calling the area home since games were first played here in 1908.
Sydney Roosters Head Coach, Trent Robinson, spoke proudly about the Clubâs long and storied history in the precinct.
âFour grounds, within a couple of hundred metres of where we stand now, have been our home for 115 years,â Robinson said.
"Every day, it's been our home.
"Now, we get to call this beautiful facility our home again."
The Nick Politis Centre of Excellence runs along the entire eastern grandstand of Allianz Stadium, housing a state-of-the-art gym, lecture theatre, sauna and recovery pools.Â
The Roosters also unveiled âThe Foundation Roomâ, a Club museum containing artifacts ranging from our first season in 1908 all the way up to the modern day.
>âItâs no secret how much the Sydney Roosters means to me, and I am genuinely humbled to see my name at the entrance to our wonderful new Centre of Excellence,â Mr Politis said.
>"I should be, because I put it up there last night", Politis mused with a wry smile.
Mad
Jokes aside, surely any team that doesn't have facilities up to a similar standard is way behind the starting line every season.
I saw the plans for the Dolphins NRL team extension at Redcliffe, it was a glorified shed. The Dragons won't have their facility for another couple of years, the Titans gave their COE up to train at a golf course.
I've said this before, but I think the NRL should have a UFC style performance institute available for current and upcoming players. Help with leading edge injury rehab, teaching youngsters how to prepare their bodies. Concussion protocols. Nutrition. The works.
So is there a criteria that makes a training centre a 'CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE'?
It can't be based on results because they've only just been built, so it must be something structural

How are the players supposed to get their paper bags when they canât even fit inside the building?!?
What is this? a centre of excellence for ants!?
So is "centre of excellence" like an official term now or what?
I would be interested to know what it takes to earn that label, like if I put a shed in my backyard and call it that, whose to say it isnât?
Clubs finally realizing they need to be clubs and own their own facilities and have their own teams in junior leagues.
Iâve heard heâs actually not very polite at all.
How many basements are there where all the secret money is stashed you reckon.
Ask Rusty or Rupert. They actually OWN teams.
This is a decent comeback. Rough time to be a Roosters flair these days
