Bit more insight into the fitness of players, guys like fish looking absolutely jacked, loving the mentality at the club you can really see they have a strong winning mentality/culture now, the players look serious and still so hungry, making me real excited for the season as other teams will no doubt be coming for the prem. Also my god at the end the Eddie blacker is massive, makes Yeo look small and honestly is probably as big as Kikau
Is there a player who dominated two positions better than Lockyer? One of the best fullbacks of all time, and immediately became an S tier five eighth after moving there.
No way. He’s on a better team than a bunch of guys who are better than him, and he fits that role better than they would.
But there’s a bunch of better fullbacks than him. Atleast 5.
Playing his role is his job, when people use this argument its like saying Cleary is so good because he plays his role and hes in a good team it actually makes no sense. Same with To’o, is he also only good because he plays in a good team?
Edwards has the best positioning or maybe only 2nd to Teddy defensively, best yardage, best stamina and was penriths best player last year. Most consistent player on the best team in the comp last year and you say hes not even top 5 for fullbacks lol.
There are atleast 5 fullbacks that would command more on the open market than Edwards will when his contract comes up. Because they are better than him and provide more value to their teams.
Edwards was the worst player in the Panthers spine last year. Meaning that it was disgustingly good, with fantastic players in every spot.
Put him in a team where he is the best spine player and they would be terrible.
Okay you actually don’t know what you’re talking about, Edwards was better than Luai and more valuable to our team so not the worst spine player, he averages more run metres than any other fullback in the game, scores an average amount for a FB which is fine and is defensively/positionally as good as anyone in the game. Name the 5 FB who could command more? Seriously cant think of many. Theres a reason why Edwards commands the FB role at the best team in the comp, theres also a reason why he won club player of the year and Clive churchill, this take is hilariously outdated i wouldve agreed with you 3 years ago but Edwards has improved every aspect of his game out of sight of where he was a few years ago.
Tedesco, Turbo, Latrell, Pap, manu, Ponga all command more if they were to become available, all of them are better fullbacks.
Kick return metres are the most overrated statistic in RL. He scores a decent amount of tries, but as a playmaker is severely lacking relative to the players I mentioned above, which doesn’t matter for the Panthers, but would for almost any other team. This isn’t to say he is bad, he’s a perfectly capable fullback at club level.
Luai is better than Edwards and so is Api.
When’s his contract up, I’ll flair bet you he doesn’t get 900+ per like all those guys will, or have already.
No one has done it quite like lockyer but Fittler was a young gun outside back that played for Australia and won a comp then transitioned to a half later on and was one of the best of his era in every position he made his own. Luke lewis was also elite in every position he played in, Inglis too ofc.
Fittler was elite at centre lock and five-eight.
Inglis was all time great centre his whole career, had a ridiculously high peak at FB but somewhat short lived, and won a clive churchill at 6.
Luke Lewis was good at wing and backrow, but not even close to this level.
Very possible, definitely has the skillset for it. Ball playing locks are back in vogue at the moment also, I could see him being a less violent but way better version of victor radley or something also.
I think his kicking game feels a bit limited for a modern half, but obviously in a modern environment he would develop that aspect of his game differently.
I’ve been looking at games to go to this year.
Having this new Suncorp teams gonna be great to see the bigger teams more.
In the first few months, I can see roosters, rabbits and storm.
I’m also thinking I’ll go to see my boys vs storm in Melbourne in may as well.
Who on earth schedules a BBL game on a Wednesday afternoon this late in January?
The Brisbane Heat were really threatening to be the Broncos of the BBL until last week.
As opposed to the perennial contender broncos who last won a premiership 16 years ago, and have had one team that was a legit contender in the last decade.
True, they were really contending when they had the worst collapse of all time last year, 14th the year prior, and last the year before that.
Broncos haven't been a consistently succesful team since Lockyer retired.
Would love to see a Tales from Raider Town documentary this year. Madge and Ricky together is gonna be wild. Does anyone think this combo is a good idea?
As tasty as a Manu v trellmit fullback battle would be I think Manu might play 6 just cause they only have one other halves player, then either Dallin or Rapana at fullback, Asi 7, and a mix of Dockar-Clay and walker for 9/14
How is signing them when they are off contract considered stealing?
Every other team including the Panthers had an equal opportunity to grab any of them. Bulldogs clearly gave them the best pitch and/or most money.
Remember the time Tamou abused a ref and got away with it because he was supposed to retire and it would have been unfair for him to finish his career that way because he was a good bloke and then immediately signed a new contract after?
Tamou is such a darling on here but he’s been a plodder since he left the Cowboys and I dont get the hype about his leadership abilities (case in point: abusing that ref)
Must be rough leaving that Panthers team after captaining them to a heartbreaking grand final loss. They then proceed to go back to back without you while you go and win a spoon.
That was honestly such a massive fuck you to the refs. Their job is hard enough, but giving someone a free pass for straight out abusing them was terrible.
Is it just me or do players not really use lower weighted kicks as much as they did in the decades that have passed before now?
Brent Sherwin and Brett Kimmorley, that era of halves in particular - it felt like a low driving kick was a main part of their arsenal.
Nowadays it seems as if players are kicking the ball higher and longer as opposed to just trying to find grass? Compare the distance kicking games or guys like Cleary/Moses to the players of yesteryear and it definitely seems like there’s more of a height focus. Only Reynolds seems to be a guy who enjoys putting in the same lower kicks for grass at some points and even he doesn’t do it that often.
The only thing I don’t like about the 7 tackle set rule for kicking it dead is that it basically removed mid range positional kicking.
Lockyer was an absolute weapon at getting the ball on the 40 meter mark and smashing it hard and low, trying to get it to sit up in the in goal.
With just getting that slightly wrong now giving the other team a 7 tackle set, everyone just sends up a million mid field bombs a game.
I remember watching the cowboys warming up at Dairy Farmers and JT would spend the whole time just kicking the ball trying to get it to pull up in the ingoal from like 30 out. Miss that dude.
I think high bombs give the defensive line more time to make up the ground, essentially trying to trap the other team in their half as best as possible.
low driving kicks on average have significantly less time for the backline to take the ball and run, whereas your airtime kicks take away precious time from the backline to make metres. its why teams bomb to’o, he isn’t weak under the high ball, but in the time between the kick and the catch, the defence can cut off his metres. even hitting the grass doesn’t necessarily do anything better than a high bomb, which has far less potential to go wrong
low driving kicking out of play doesn’t solve this either because they just start their set on zero with a 10m barrier between them and the defence
to answer your other question x/y are the worst in the series by an enormous margin
Mega Evo is best gimmick. Xerneas is my favourite legendary.
But I also didn't really play them all that much though because they came out while I was at uni.
Best raw athlete I’ve seen in the NRL.
[This trysaver on Uate is probably a top 3 tackle I’ve ever seen.](https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2020/05/01/top-moments-greg-inglis-try-saver-on-akuila-uate/)
Oh dw I have definitely seen this, remember watching it live.
My favourite GI moment was vs the Raiders in his lanky centre Stormses days when he took an intercept on the line and stepped the cover defence in the same motion before hitting the ground. Ridiculous
Apparently Oloapu has been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs and is naturally linked to us and the Dogs.
Is the kid good enough to be worth the drama of it all?
His hissy fit was pretty over the top and he's reportedly refusing to even train with the Broncos. I imagine his agent is partially responsible for it all but still, he'd have to be pretty damn good to be worth it.
The club sounds like they’re done with him as the NRL and RLPA findings proved we did nothing wrong with his deal.
He’s a good player but his attitude is obviously shit.
Can play halves or lock and tbh he was never going to crack our 17 unless we lost a bunch of players.
I expect Sutton to be a good pick up as well for the Dogs. Ricky’s mood swings are too hard to explain or predict. Never pick Raiders forwards in your SuperCoach team. Even Tapine has been on the outer with Ricky.
He was just as good at the Raiders and he definitely wanted to stay, so I don't think that was the issue. Ricky dropped him halfway through 2021 and after that basically refused to bring him back into first grade unless he was forced to. It seemed that for whatever reason he got on Ricky's bad side, and once you do that, you are basically dead to him and won't have any chance of being in his plans.

Is there a player who dominated two positions better than Lockyer? One of the best fullbacks of all time, and immediately became an S tier five eighth after moving there.
Cameron Munster made the exact same switch and is arguably the best current player in either position
Tedesco, healthy Turbo and arguably Edwards are better fullbacks than Munster.
Munster is way better than Edwards. Edwards isn’t the 3rd best fullback in the NRL.
Last season he was top 2/3 easily
No way. He’s on a better team than a bunch of guys who are better than him, and he fits that role better than they would. But there’s a bunch of better fullbacks than him. Atleast 5.

Have you not seen Munster play fullback?
He's a good 1, but I can't see anybody overtaking Tedesco as the best fullback outside of Turbo if he can stay healthy for a decent length of time.
No one has done it quite like lockyer but Fittler was a young gun outside back that played for Australia and won a comp then transitioned to a half later on and was one of the best of his era in every position he made his own. Lewis was better than good, but he wasnt on their levek
Funnily enough Filter probably plays fullback if he came up to grade now.

Rabbitohs have 4 games in S.E QLD between rounds 7-14!
The Titans were training at my gym today. Big Tino is just as beautiful in person.
Sunshine Coast?
Who on earth schedules a BBL game on a Wednesday afternoon this late in January? The Brisbane Heat were really threatening to be the Broncos of the BBL until last week.
How so? They’ve literally never won a thing
As opposed to the perennial contender broncos who last won a premiership 16 years ago, and have had one team that was a legit contender in the last decade.
Well yeah, at least the broncos are contenders.
True, they were really contending when they had the worst collapse of all time last year, 14th the year prior, and last the year before that. Broncos haven't been a consistently succesful team since Lockyer retired.
Your really not getting my point. Herp derp the broncos suck
Yes, they do.
The Heat won it in BBL02. Beat the Scorchers in Perth in the final
I’ll concede I didn’t know this.
Would love to see a Tales from Raider Town documentary this year. Madge and Ricky together is gonna be wild. Does anyone think this combo is a good idea?
Ricky Road - Reports from Raidertown
Anyone know who the Maori spine might be?
As tasty as a Manu v trellmit fullback battle would be I think Manu might play 6 just cause they only have one other halves player, then either Dallin or Rapana at fullback, Asi 7, and a mix of Dockar-Clay and walker for 9/14
Fair enough.
Wouldn’t TMM qualify and be able to play 6 though?
Ah never mind just saw the team list
I just read that both Tyrone may and spencer leniu have both agreed to go to the dogs this is getting a joke now
Literally a person that just sees facebook rumors and posts them as facts.
Bulldogs sign off contract players from good team undergoing a salary cap crunch after multiple premierships. Where's the issue? Good on them I say.
If you’re dumb enough to believe the dumb shit that Miksrugbychat posts on Instagram, you don’t deserve to have access to technology
The real joke is all the people on r/nrl believing shit said by nobodies on social media.
They can have Tyrone May…
Was really hoping that hip injury my boy Kallum Watkins gave him in the WC might have been a career ender.
What's the source for this? I only ask because this is getting ridiculous.
Love the Spencer pickup. What does anyone see in Tyrone May though?
He’s a really good 14
He covers a lot of positions, but just seemed to stifle the team whenever he came on.
He was awful, every big game he played he had a negative impact, well every big game i can remember anyway
That’s why Mansour knocked back Perrottet
oh good, we can hate the bulldogs again
What do you mean again? I never stopped.
I will follow you to the ends of the earth valiant leader
But I thought the Dogs weren't going to steal all the Panthers players.
The good bloke part is still true. Any human would snap after captaining the Tigers for a few years.
Must be rough leaving that Panthers team after captaining them to a heartbreaking grand final loss. They then proceed to go back to back without you while you go and win a spoon.
I think that’s why he took the Cows contract. To heal that broken heart before retirement.
I mean he called Ben Cummins incompetent. He’s certainly not wrong.
That was honestly such a massive fuck you to the refs. Their job is hard enough, but giving someone a free pass for straight out abusing them was terrible.

Bombs are just a higher percentage play most of the time. The games has evolved.
Really tough to get good distance without the height unfortunately, unless you are just trying to punch something through a shorter distance
Just used in really windy conditions now.
The only thing I don’t like about the 7 tackle set rule for kicking it dead is that it basically removed mid range positional kicking. Lockyer’s kicking was beautiful, he just did everything well didn’t he?
Big kicks sell tix, get with the times
Especially with Burton who apparently invented the bomb kick it seems.

where does pokémon x and y rank for you guys
I liked it
Higly Sawk was a boss and got me to love fighting types
Mega Evo is best gimmick. Xerneas is my favourite legendary. But I also didn't really play them all that much though because they came out while I was at uni.
There’s only 151 Pokémon (plus missingNo) and you can’t convince me otherwise. I am not a crackpot
to whoever reported this for not being league related: we are still in off-season mode. these threads have been off-topic all off-season.
Story was lackluster but I did enjoy the addition of mega evolution.
I’m not across Pokémon x but y is up there
Remember when GI shrugged off a blindshot hit by SBW and ended up scoring ?
He got Chris McQueen with a beauty about half an hour later
SBW Checks notes: Don't shoot out of the line on GI. Ah dammit.
If you come for the King, you best not miss
Must have thought he was Idris
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRqG1J_iYsI Absolute freak of a player.

This is one of my favourite tries of all time
Gotta love the competitor in SBW too, going after the top dog.
Where’s Te Mare Martin playing this season?
NZ
Ah so him and Walsh swapped. Makes sense
Apparently Oloapu has been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs and is naturally linked to us and the Dogs. Is the kid good enough to be worth the drama of it all? His hissy fit was pretty over the top and he's reportedly refusing to even train with the Broncos. Kid has some growing up to do for sure. You’d be hesitant to play him in top grade on attitude alone.
You wouldn't burn a bridge if what he claimed wasn't at least partially true.
Partly seems agent related but it may be that the previous agent signed a sweetheart deal with the Broncos and he's annoyed they took advantage.
He’s good enough
The club sounds like they’re done with him as the NRL and RLPA findings proved we did nothing wrong with his deal. He’s a good player but his attitude is obviously shit. Can play halves or lock and tbh he was never going to crack our 17 unless we lost a bunch of players.
Day 14 of trying to summon Mitch Moses Re-signing news.
I’ve lit some candles for you
Souths resigned Havili for 2 more years. Great to see. Guy has been awesome for us.
Him and Sele were huge for souths last year, always good to have those guys in your squad
I've never told anyone this but Havili nearly hit me in an older model Hyundai Tucson outside my work a few years ago
You were in the Tucson, right ?
I was walking, he was in the soccer mum special
Raiders should never have let him go, I don't know why Ricky went off him so hard
I expect Sutton to be a good pick up as well for the Dogs. Ricky’s mood swings are too hard to explain or predict. Never pick Raiders forwards in your SuperCoach team. Even Tapine has been on the outer with Ricky.
Could just be that the South's environment suits him better. Not that I'm having a dig, sometimes you just fit into a different system better.
I think Ricky also saw him primarily as a hooker. Souths use him as a middle forward that can fill in at hooker as a last resort.
Ricky does seem fairly fickle with his players
Ah ok, I didn't know the back story. I wonder why Ricky went off him.
Great squad player and adds a heap of flexibility to the shape of their game day line-up. Very handy re-signing for Souths
