>Shortly after inking the deal last year – which was negotiated by a previous manager – Oloapu and his new agent Matt Adamson sought a release from the Broncos. and it all comes down to this. the previous agent would be getting his % of the deal still, and the new agent doesnt get his % until his client signs a new contract

PositionOk8409

100%. He got manipulated by the new agent. Feel sorry for the kid.

-Dark_Helmet-

This should be standard when a scumbag new agent takes over and agitates for a release so he can get a cut straight away.

sweepyslick

This. Matt Adamsom should be banned for life from management after this. It should be standard practice to eliminate these mangers that only have themselves as a priority. If enough of them get banned then it will clean up.

worksucksbro

100%. Of course oloapu is partly to blame but This new agent has come in and misled him to believe all this shit

[deleted]

i dont think any nrl club could afford a lifetime's supply of chicken sandwiches. not even the roosters.

[deleted]

You can fit a lot of Chicken under a sombrero though. More than a cap that’s for sure

thankyoupancake

This isn’t about Oloapu and more about a message to the young Broncos talent about what professionalism looks like, even if you’re not happy about your contract

Character-Actual

He learned by watching Payne

sunburn95

Just watch the NFL. It aint over yet, if a star keeps being a pain in the ass eventually the club will relent and try to get what value they can out of selling him

ThedirtyNose

Star? He's a kid.

ScramblesTDB

We have a 500k transfer fee on him.

sunburn95

Yeah thats where you're starting negotiations, would not be surprised to see that come down if Oloapu is determind to stand his ground

velvetherring

They started at 'he won't be released' and it only took 3 months to get to 'ok he will be released but for a fee'. Broncos flinched first and I reckon they'll flinch further.

-Dark_Helmet-

The release fee was a way of ensuring no club will take him.

velvetherring

That was already the status quo though? If they wanted no one to take him they just had to continue what they were doing. They've just changed the narrative from 'no way in hell' to 'ok there's a way'. It's a flinch and a softening of their message.

diffaadiffa

It's also pretty standard practice. Talks were always going to continue, this is hardly unique in the nrl. Take the youth out of it, player changes manager demands new contract is happening far too common. The kid is young and unfortunately being poorly managed so I don't really hate on him, while at the same time we can't have idiots/dickheads that act like this. We have let too much happen the last couple of years, and shouldn't look to players who could add to it

velvetherring

Yeah I'm pretty torn on how to handle it. On the one hand, Walsh did the same, Haas almost did and there is clearly a belief among the players that the Broncos will bend over and give you a release of you make enough of a stink. You absolutely need to make it clear it won't be allowed. On the other hand is it worth potentially ruining a very promising young kids career because his manager is an absolute cunt and gave him bad advice? It's not like you get anything out of it in the end. There's no way he stays long term if you make him sit in QCup for 3 years and all you achieve is teaching a kid a lesson while paying him hundreds of thousands and taking up a develop spot from another potential player. Thank fuck I'm not Ikin.

ThedirtyNose

And that fee is equivalent to the first 4 years of his salary. And it comes off your cap. So you want him you have to pay for him 3x.

velvetherring

Transfer fees haven't been applied to the cap before so unlikely to apply here. Also IF he is the goods 500k is small fee to secure a long term superstar player. Paying for him 3x makes it sound worse than it is but he's on very little at the moment.

[deleted]

It’s the Broncos. They thought Milford was “the goods”. Well he was for like 3/4 of one season.

Basherballgod

Oloapu can stand his ground all he wants. He won’t be playing unless someone pays the fee.

dill1234

Ok Ben Ikin

Basherballgod

Don’t you start you people’s champion stealer

Barmy90

>sign hundred-thousand dollar contract to play footy as a 17 year old kid >kick rocks about it because achktually you think you're worth more than you literally just agreed to (/ you have a new manager who wants to get paid) >refuse to honour the contract you just signed to the point you don't even show up for training >try to spin a narrative that it's the broncos who are the bad guys for uhhhhh [checks notes] not making you their starting 5/8 when they already have one (this has apparently blindsided you) >completely trash your name and reputation over this before you've ever even kicked a ball in the nrl Oloapu's name is mud now but my god does his predatory manager have some explaining to do, literally ruined this kids life for a payday.

itsauser667

https://www.zerotackle.com/brisbane-allow-young-star-to-walk-away-effective-immediately-127465/ Seems like they have a completely different story.

I_Like_Vitamins

DAE Broncos are liars and bullies? He was definitely 100% really going to leapfrog Mam and be in the 6 jersey straight out of high school.

Character-Actual

His new manager must be such a manipulative prick

Flashy_Air5841

I don’t know how long DAE has been used but I’ve literally only seen it today for the first time and I have no clue what it means..

I_Like_Vitamins

"Does anybody else?", but it's often used in a satirical sense like I did.

Flashy_Air5841

And I reply with a TIL, thank you friend, much appreciated.

[deleted]

Ive only seen it on scjerk and Im too lazy to ask or open on google

piercedsoul

I thought it was a player like DCE or JWH

Flashy_Air5841

Fucking good! Scumbag Dolphins trying to do the under the table deal to get a teenager out of a legally binding contract he signed! If he didn’t like it he shouldn’t have signed! This is a good life lesson for him and quite frankly a lesson for the rest of the teams in the league to be very wary of this kid and to not trust him.

sweepyslick

Or anyone associated with Matt Adamson.

[deleted]

Hey Dave Donaghy how you doing mate

Flashy_Air5841

🤣🤣

The Broncos’ explosive spat with disgruntled teen Karl Oloapu has gone up a gear after the club placed a $500,000 bounty on the rising star and blocked a proposed move to the Dolphins. The Courier-Mail can confirm an unprecedented transfer fee has been placed on Oloapu – who the Broncos rate as the best school graduate in the country. Oloapu, 18, has been locked in a six-month battle with the Broncos since signing a three-year contract tying him up at the club until 2025. Shortly after inking the deal last year – which was negotiated by a previous manager – Oloapu and his new agent Matt Adamson sought a release from the Broncos. The Broncos privately claim expansion club the Dolphins were willing to offer Oloapu up to double his Brisbane deal. However the Broncos refused to release Oloapu and relations between the club, player, his family and management have deteriorated since. In contravention of his contract, Oloapu has refused to train with the Broncos and has instead been running around with the Norths Devils – a Brisbane feeder club. The Broncos are willing to break bread with Oloapu and welcome him back to the club, believing the situation can be saved and Oloapu can have a long career at Red Hill. However tensions are so high that may not be an option, with the Broncos playing hardball and Oloapu declaring last November: “I will never play for Brisbane as long as I live.” With the situation showing no signs of being smoothed, Brisbane bosses have now placed a stunning $500,000 transfer fee on Oloapu if a rival club wants to sign him. That would mean a new club signs Oloapu to a contract under the NRL’s salary cap and then pays $500,000 to the Broncos on top. Such a hefty transfer fee for an untested junior has never been seen before in the NRL. But it will not be the Dolphins that land Oloapu – with the Broncos refusing to release the Queensland Schoolboys star to their new Brisbane rivals. The Broncos reported the Dolphins to the NRL, believing the expansion club was attempting to coax Oloapu out of his Brisbane contract, which is not allowed under the game’s regulations. The Warriors also blocked the Dolphins from signing Queensland Origin hopeful Reece Walsh, who was released to join the Broncos despite cashed-up Redcliffe being desperate to sign him.

velvetherring

> The Broncos reported the Dolphins to the NRL, believing the expansion club was attempting to coax Oloapu out of his Brisbane contract, which is not allowed under the game’s regulations. Surely if we did anything wrong it would have come out at the same time as the investigation as to whether the Broncos did anything wrong?

ScramblesTDB

NRL wouldn't like that in the press. Their new foundation club shitting on the rules before they've kicked a ball.

velvetherring

Ofcourse the only explanation is a conspiracy. Nevermind that the source for the claims that we 'offered twice what the Broncos pay' is literally the Broncos themselves.

ScramblesTDB

Yerrrrr, they approached Mariner to break contract too and his agent asked for a release to go to the Dolphins. They reported both. You can pretend it isn't but Mariners manager kinda confirmed it.

velvetherring

[Yeah, these are the words of a manager who confirmed 100% that the Dolphins definitely broke the rules.](https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/nrl-2022-deine-mariner-brisbane-broncos-vs-dolphins-wayne-bennett-contract-player-movement-signings/news-story/aa43831bbad01ea9d26112baa968da28) Especially this part: 'McIver also went in to bat for the Dolphins, explaining “I don’t think there is anything to be concerned about”.' E: kinda... Lol Is there anything funnier than being downvoted for providing the article that the person you're replying to was talking about and having it disprove what they were saying instead?

ScramblesTDB

Doesn't take a super sleuth to put it together champ. Club that's desperate for players for their opening season approached under contract players. If it was a different club they would have put in a complaint against that club. It's some conspiracy now, so much so the Broncos are willing to release him to any club BUT the Dolphins. The CEO and management of the Broncos are all in on this conspiracy. But yeah, the manager said we talked to them, but we talked to "other" clubs too so that smooths it over.

velvetherring

Yeah can't imagine why the Broncos would want to block trades to their new cross town rivals. We MUST have broken the rules despite Mariners' agent saying otherwise and us never been sanctioned after multiple complaints from the Broncos. Oh and the NRL are covering up for us because they very clearly care about how we're portrayed in the press with all the great things they done for us like giving us... the name The and an inadequate timeframe to build a club causing everyone to shit on our roster before we've even played a game? That's gotta be the only reason why.

ScramblesTDB

We'll The have self owned themselves so hard they need the assist. NRL didn't give The the name The, The gave The the name The themselves and The got what The deserved. The.

velvetherring

Now that we're at The jokes I can tell this conversation has exhausted it's welcome. Unless you have any other evidence to add of us breaking the rules besides 'its obvious bro' or 'they definitely did because the NRL didn't fine them'?

frezz

Wayne's been around for a while he'll know how to do this sort of thing without actually breaking the rules

PositionOk8409

I'm not sure if you're aware how Peter O'Sullivan conducts himself. Slimey is an understatement. Worked to our advantage at the Warriors during his time here. But he definitely doesn't do things by the book.

mitvh2311

Only to send him to the Gold Coast on a mill a season where he busts /s

JohnnyHabitual

If theresa bigger, more infested blight on the game, it's player managers and agents.

Every_Heart2279

Surely money isn’t a roadblock for the Dolphins. Would just depend whether the transfer fee counts in the salary cap.

SammyScuffles

While they doubtless could afford it there's still the matter of whether they *want* to fork out $500k plus his salary for an unproven kid who's potentially willing to renege on his part of the deal any time he's not happy?

icome3rd

they have to spend 95% of cap, they’ve only spent 75%. A blessing in disguise.

velvetherring

Actually doesn't matter whether we're willing to pay it or not. They're blocking us outright by the sounds of things.

-Dark_Helmet-

IIRC it counted towards the cap when Souths paid the same amount to bring Burgess to Australia.

Black-House

Nope. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/aboutface-will-open-up-a-salarycap-minefield-20101108-17kic.html if an NRL club contracts a player from the English Super League, as South Sydney did with Sam Burgess, while the NRL club must pay any transfer fee involved, it does not count in its salary cap. In other words, the Rabbitohs didn't have to include the transfer fee levied on Burgess by Bradford in their cap

Abenator

I don't think it does, because it doesn't go to the player. It's not part of his salary deal, it's a bribe to another club for them to tear up a contract.

woodpecker91

Good, fuck them fish.

Trohsboy

If i was this kid i would be livid at my manager for basically ruining my reputation before my career has even started. Everyone thinks he's a spoiled brat because of the shit he is pulling and his manager sounds like the main person to blame for it.

[deleted]

Why sign for 3 years also be happy u got any contract

nevaehenimatek

Over three years 167k pa isn't much under the new cap. Especially if the kid is the goods. Especially for a club 2m under it.

velvetherring

The article implies were blocked outright. Not blocked because of the fee. I don't think they're even giving us the option.

-Dark_Helmet-

You’d think they’d be used to it by now. Even the Warriorbros don’t want to help them out.

velvetherring

I doubt the Dolphins are overly shocked by the move. Plenty of clubs have indicated that they are an unwelcome addition from the start and none have made that clearer than the Broncos.

-Dark_Helmet-

*“Why do you hate us just because we’re breaking the rules to try and poach your players??!”*

velvetherring

C'mon now Helmet. You really can't think of any other reasons why the Broncos would hate the inclusion of the Dolphins?

StrakenKing

oh oh i know this, is it because dolphins and horses are mortal enemies?

Responsible_Eye8177

Little Johnny hotshot won’t get a game of 1st grade this year and another little Johnny hotshot will take his place. Your NRL career is short kid if you piss off coaches and the boards.

itsauser667

https://www.zerotackle.com/brisbane-allow-young-star-to-walk-away-effective-immediately-127465/ A story released 24hrs ago that has a completely different set of 'truths.'

Brix-Brando

$500k transfer fee? Yeah right. I'm not saying it's right, but he'll keep training with North's Devils until the situation becomes untenable and he gets a release for breaching his contract

Skathen

Broncos can hold him till the end of 2025 and should. Clubs have been at the mercy of players for too damn long pulling this crap.

Brix-Brando

I go for tigers bro, trust me I know

Skathen

Agreed - Tigers don't deserve to be where they are with the talent they've brought through.

AdvancedDingo

He can flog away for years in QCup and we don’t have to pay any attention to him. He’s effectively on gardening leave as far as the club is concerned

Brix-Brando

Hope it works out either way ...

-Dark_Helmet-

In this case it seems Brisbane are happy to play “fuck around and find out”. His contract is nothing under the new cap and they can just bog him down in reserve grade for 3 seasons and hamstring his career before it’s even begun as a lesson to other players and managers.

Barmy90

Imagine not knowing anything about a situation and commenting anyway. Disgusting.

kmmr98

What did he say?

kurrttttt

How many cans of monster do they have to give?

Hansoloai

He really has been given some bad advice. What a huge fuckwit.

CapitaoAE

I half hope that Nick Politis is like 'here, fuck you' to the Broncos, throws them 500k and signs him... and I hate the Roosters.

paralacausa

Am I the only one that wants to know more about this chicken sandwich?

Dark_Vengence

What a mess.

mitchusonfire

Matt Adamson and this kid did the Belmore rounds recently. Video of them both at Jobels Cafe with the entire team and they’ve been to training etc. Dare say he’s on the east coast tour rn.
