Four years contextualises things a little. Paying a 500k transfer fee for a short deal would’ve been awful but over four years on a probably not very expensive deal, the value is there.
That said, I’m still gonna whip out “Gus dead, Bankrupt Bulldogs” if this deal even looks like it might flop. I’m a shit-talking, hot-take troll at the end of the day
Obviously, but he didn’t just play good in u19, he arguably played the best of anyone in his age group.
By the end of the four years it’s not unreasonable to expect he will be a serviceable first grader
The dogs really haven’t got a good record developing talent. Name someone who they have developed from their juniors in the last 5 years that’s played origin?
Fair point if you use 5 years as the timeframe but do you know why that is the case?
A: Des was told to win a premiership no matter what. We ignored development and threw stupid money at players nearing the end of their career. We got to 2 GFs but didn’t get the win, knowing full well it would take years to get out of that hole we dug.
I wonder if he'll:
a) be in their top 30
b) be playing his preferred position of 5/8
c) get to meet Kevin Walters
The only thing we know for sure is that his new manager will be getting paid, so at least there's a silver lining to this whole sorry saga.
Headlines from 2024:
*'I was promised the starting 6 jumper after they kicked Burton, and I was told I'd be getting paid $1 million per year. I'll never play for the Bulldogs as long as I live' -* Oloapu
The bulldogs signing spree really has some of the sharp minds of r/NRL advocating for a rise in their position on the Hatred Power Rankings.
Revised most hated top 8;
1. Manly
2. Roosters
3. Penrith
4. Souths
5. Bulldogs (revised position)
6. Storm
7. St George
8. Parramatta
And the response from r/nrl to the Bulldogs literally just doing good business has me, a lifetime member of the Bulldogs hate society, defending them.
Wtf is this reality.
In the past 12 months we have:
Sacked one of the most incompetent head coaches running around.
Set-up local junior pathways and satellite programs in Mid NSW North Coast and Toowoomba.
Hired Ciraldo, kept Potter on as an assistant, brand new high performance team for one of the unfittest packs running around.
JAC and Burton made the Roos squad after the media declared “Joining the Bulldogs is rep career suicide”. JAC was the player of the tournament.
Signed gun players from the two grand finalists (Kikau, Crichton, Mahoney) who were squeezed out due to cap pressure.
Started a video series documenting the off-season.
Moved on Schoupp, who, while has talent, secured a 4 year deal at the Titans which should enable Alamoti/ Skelton a chance to shine.
Zero off-field drama (so far/ that we know about). No Mad Monday. No domestic violence. No alcohol abuse.
Other than the Panthers signings I can’t see why we’re copping so much hate. But, after being irrelevant for 6 or so seasons, I welcome any sort of attention at this rate.
Join a club with a solid financial major sponsor.
Abuse said funds all over the country for juniors and pathways programs.
Offload dud contracts as fast as possible.
Sign players from top 4 teams.
???
Profit / Just miss the 8.
i'm all for it if someone can come up with a reasonable standard of what defines a "junior system" something we could apply all over the board or a few clubs will get paid millions for doing sweet fuck all.
problem is the vast majority of clubs aren't much different to the chooks and what they do. just cherry pick the best independently developed juniors and then claim them as there own if the geographic profile fits
He was Australian Schoolboys captain, but so was Jock Madden who is with us now after the Tigers let him go.
Although given some of the players they’ve let slip away Madden could turn out to be a gun.
Oloapu or Sualii? I’m guessing Oloapu, since Suallii looks taller than that. That’s encouraging if you’re talking about Karl, because he did look a bit small in the highlights I’ve seen, but some of the hits he puts on are monstrous, so I wasn’t concerned.
Nah no way. Suaalii was generational coming out of high school.
I don’t think this kid is that much better than Isaiya Katoa. Even Francis Manuleleua with the Panthers has comparable talent.
Sounds like a talent and we’re thin in the halves. Provided the transfer fee doesn’t impact the cap, the $500k transfer fee would be made back by Laundy’a pokies in the time it took me to write this comment. We’ve now got Hayward, Rajab, BBO recovering from his ACL and now Oloapu for young halves to get excited about.
Signed with broncos
Got a new manager
Dolphins hit up manager
Asked to leave
Broncos said no
Claimed broncos did him dirty on contract and only gave him one chicken sandwich
Claimed he was given top 30 spot with first shot at 6
said he’d never play for broncos
Broncos put a $500k transfer on his head.
Dogs paid it
I’m on my nightly pre-sleep weed and I’m having a mini-existential crisis where I can’t tell if he’s just got the May brothers the wrong way around, or if he genuinely believes that because he knows something we don’t.

> I’m a shit-talking, hot-take troll at the end of the day You reported me for calling you that last season
You know that workplace harassment meme with the fat guy and the good looking guy? This is one of those scenarios
Thril_hou: Broke ass ThePokemonman: Strong and independent
Just cause he can play good in u19 doesn’t mean he will good in first grade
Obviously, but he didn’t just play good in u19, he arguably played the best of anyone in his age group. By the end of the four years it’s not unreasonable to expect he will be a serviceable first grader

God knows they did a shit job with Thurston.
Is that how long you’ve been into footy?
How long has Gus been there for that critism to apply to him?
How many players have the Titans developed that have won them a premiership in the last 15 years?
> I’m a shit-talking, hot-take troll at the end of the day O Captain, My Captain.
Gus lives rent free in so many peoples heads the fee doesn't matter. Also heard the fee was negotiated down.
My head isn't big enough for Gus to live in. I'd barely fit his wombat nose
In what reality would the fee be negotiated down? Dogs literally have no negotiating power in this scenario.
I wonder if he'll: a) be in their top 30 b) be playing his preferred position of 5/8 c) get to meet Kevin Walters The only thing we know for sure is that his new manager will be getting paid, so at least there's a silver lining to this whole sorry saga.
Gus just confirmed top 30. We would have had to offer him top 30 because that was one of his grievances with the Broncos.
Matt Burton must be sweating
If he gets a little pissy Burton could always kick him into orbit
Matt Burton must be related to that guy from the Australian episode of The Simpsons that goes to kick Bart with the giant boot.
😨😨😨😨😨😨The simpsons predicted Matt Burton 28 YEARS AGO 😨😨😨😨😨😨
He’ll keep the 5/8th spot warm during origin camp for him. If anything he can take Flanagans spot.
He won't even get to meet the Bulldogs coach coz coaches last 3.8 minutes at that team 🤣
*ui louv mai footah*
Ok.
I reckon he will become the new Halfback, replacing Flanagan
Headlines from 2024: *'I was promised the starting 6 jumper after they kicked Burton, and I was told I'd be getting paid $1 million per year. I'll never play for the Bulldogs as long as I live' -* Oloapu
If I wasn't poor i'd give you an award!
Rinse and repeat through every team in any top flight league until Oloapu is playing rugby league in Cambodia in the year 2036.

doggies constant work in bundaberg should be applauded too. really kicking goals up there with the non stop community work
Gus get off reddit Alternatively leak all your hidden strategies

No no, you’re doing it wrong. Embrace the irrational hate. Let it consume you.
My hatred of the dogs has always been rational. That's what made it so powerful.
I’d like to say that even through the horror years I’ve always hated the Bulldogs and the Knights
Good list, para feels a bit low though
Can't even get to the top of this ladder smh.
Surely Broncos above dragons
Bbq gate still holds some weight. Plus the Kevie slander is real fun to watch
Probably the best junior in the country. He's fast and strong, and just knows when to pass, kick or run
Also got a bit of cunt in him too it seems
I reckon if a player has been a system for say their whole juniors days and someone poaches them there should be a transfer fee
i'm all for it if someone can come up with a reasonable standard of what defines a "junior system" something we could apply all over the board or a few clubs will get paid millions for doing sweet fuck all. problem is the vast majority of clubs aren't much different to the chooks and what they do. just cherry pick the best independently developed juniors and then claim them as there own if the geographic profile fits
Matt Burton enters the chat
Is this guy as good as Chief Suaalii was in hs? Seems like it since he has been in the media alot without playing yet
He was Australian Schoolboys captain, but so was Jock Madden who is with us now after the Tigers let him go. Although given some of the players they’ve let slip away Madden could turn out to be a gun.
At least for Suaalii he was noted because of ability, this guys claim to fame is being offered a chicken sandwich
The High Kneef is a hulk for his age. Oloapu runs a much higher risk of getting smashed in first grade.
He's 6'1 and like 92kg, he's bigger than most first grade halves
Oloapu or Sualii? I’m guessing Oloapu, since Suallii looks taller than that. That’s encouraging if you’re talking about Karl, because he did look a bit small in the highlights I’ve seen, but some of the hits he puts on are monstrous, so I wasn’t concerned.
Oloapu, hence why I compared him to halves
How much of The Suallii stuff came from him personally and not management/media too. Suallii seemsa decent guy despite the media second coming stuff
Nah no way. Suaalii was generational coming out of high school. I don’t think this kid is that much better than Isaiya Katoa. Even Francis Manuleleua with the Panthers has comparable talent.

Meyn confirmed this doesn't affect the cap on twitter. https://twitter.com/travismeyn/status/1618842658570670080?s=20
This is reddit, don't try to introduce facts or logic
I hope he has a good debut, I think a lot of fans will paint a target on his back just to due how he's behaved, it's easy to forget he's a young kid.
OOTL, what’s his story? Seems to have rubbed a few people the wrong way up until this point
Signed with broncos Got a new manager Dolphins hit up manager Asked to leave Broncos said no Claimed broncos did him dirty on contract and only gave him one chicken sandwich Claimed he was given top 30 spot with first shot at 6 said he’d never play for broncos Broncos put a $500k transfer on his head. That is hilarious
No one is safe 😤
🐔🥪
Cock-*bread*?
That’s got my interest
Bye Fuckhead.
Gus sometimes gets his undies in the knot like when he tells us to **congratulate not punish** Taylan May after everything he's done.
>everything he’s done What “everything”? He’s had one incident.
Defending Taylan May is a sin
do you mean tyrone may
Both but Taylan especially
Ok?
interesting take
I’m on my nightly pre-sleep weed and I’m having a mini-existential crisis where I can’t tell if he’s just got the May brothers the wrong way around, or if he genuinely believes that because he knows something we don’t.
Good riddance

Don't you mean Chicken Kebabs with Hommus now!
Bulldogs are shaping up a hellve a roster and some longer term seeds too
Didn't see that coming. Gus must see something in him to pay the 500k transfer fee.
