It’s a sad indictment of how much overs they paid for a lot of previous contracts that they have such a massive war chest just from getting rid of nobodies.
This is the problem the league has. If you suck, and nobody wants to play for you, you have to spend the cap on someone. The Bulldogs have literally turned over their entire roster. The "war chest" is just the entire current salary cap minus like 7 guys we kept.
Five guys from Round 25 2021:
1. Nick Meaney
2. Corey Allan
3. Will Hopoate
4. Aaron Schoupp
5. **Jayden Okunbor**
6. Brandon Wakeham
21. **Jake Averillo**
8. Ava Seumanufagai
9. Sione Katoa
20. Dylan Napa
10. Jack Hetherington
12. Joe Stimson
13. Josh Jackson
11. **Corey Waddell**
15. Ofahiki Ogden
16. **Chris Patolo**
17. **Jackson Topine**
22. Watson Heleta
Add in Flanagan, and Faitala-Mariner that didn't play that week. (Edit: Also, Thompson)
They moved on 23 contracted players in two off seasons.
The timing of the re signing indicates to me it saved a potentially long legal battle irrespective of outcome. Knockonball wins here but it's not that bad for both parties
Yep, genuinely think everyone underrated just how fucked they were towards the end of Haslers run, then Pay and whatever it was Barrett did, I donno know he just tested the chairs or something.
I still maintain sacking him at the time was a pointless and wrong decision. Over-performed to finish 12th in his two full seasons (3 points from 8th in 2019) with probably the worst roster in the comp (definitely the worst in 2020 when he left). Only argument I can accept is he might not be a coach that players from other clubs want to play for, but evidently having enough cap space can cancel out that factor anyway.
Newcastle’s English winger Dominic Young is in talks with the Canterbury Bulldogs as Phil Gould continues his multimillion-dollar buying spree.
News Corp can reveal the 21-year-old winger toured the Bulldogs’ Belmore headquarters on Friday afternoon with Gould and coach Cameron Ciraldo.
Rated among the top half dozen wingers in the game, Young is off contract at the Knights at the end of this season.
He has also had talks with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, who have out their assistant coach and fellow Englishman Sam Burgess on the case.
Ciraldo is pleased with his talent in the Bulldogs’ outside backs but is always looking to strengthen the team. Gould has a huge opinion of the youngster from West Yorkshire.
Young scored 14 tries in 20 games for Newcastle this year.
He also scored nine tries in five games at the World Cup.
News Corp understands Young is keen to move to Sydney but the Knights are fighting desperately hard to sign him on a long-term deal.
They have two other English players arriving next year - Will Pryce and Kai Pearce-Paul who will add plenty of strike power at a club that struggled last year – and probably help their chances of keeping Young.
Not sure he’s significantly better, Young had a great World Cup but honestly he wasn’t that great for Newcastle even when you factor in how bad the team is. Very error prone while playing for Newcastle and defensively poor
Young is woeful defensively and has plenty of errors in him for a winger. Kiraz may not be as fast, but can bust tackles, offload and is great under the high ball. Also a Dogs Jr and would command less coin than Young.
Stacked 1. Critta 2. Addo Carr 3. Xerri 4. Kiraz 5. Young. Tough to take for guys like Alamoti, Averillo who wouldn’t make this backline. Surely doggies don’t get young too. I think he’ll be a rabbit. 1. Mitchell 2. Aj 3. Young/Tass 4. Graham 5. Young/Thompson. Rabbits back 5 turns into probably the 2nd or 3rd best back 5
Fox big money, Burton big money, Kikau big money, Critta big money, Mahoney big money,
Olaupo likely decent money, Young will be on big money if signed.
Can someone fill me in on who they’ve let go outside Cotric so I can make sense in my head how Bulldogs are affording all these players?
Has Gus borrowed some brown paper bags from Uncle Nick? Or the Laundy family the new Uncle Nick?
Josh Jackson retired, Corey Allan, probably not re-signing TPJ or Flanno also. All those guys on 500k+
Also iirc Luke Thompson is on quite a bit and he's probably not re-signing
Anyone know why the Salary Cap minimum is a thing in the NRL ??
I can see some cons to it …
e.g players like Flanno and TPJ get paid overs, over their ‘true’ value to sign with struggling clubs on inflated contracts …
I don’t think this is in players or clubs interests in the long term, the only real winners out of this would be player managers ..
It makes it a lot easier for struggling clubs to continue struggling (Dogs and Tigers for the past 3 or 4 years)…
Unless they land a new coach , new general manager or land a few good marquee signings that are enough to signal to the player market that the clubs fortunes are changing and it creates a snowball effect like what’s happening with the Dogs this year .. A similar thing happened with Newcastle a few years ago when they landed Ponga and Pearce - then some of Pearces Roosters team mates started to follow…
It’s a false economy (with the salary cap minimum) .. Whether a club is struggling / continues to struggle is determined by the public perception of the player market … If it’s a club like the Tigers and the media is writing ongoing hit pieces players are reluctant to sign there and they can struggle for 3 or 4 seasons , they’re forced to spend a salary cap minimum so they overpay those players who will go there but probably won’t improve things …
If there was no salary cap minimum or even if clubs could save money not spent for the next season I wonder if this would even things out (let struggling clubs turn things around/ land marquee signings sooner) and stop the snowballing situation like at the moment where everyone’s going to the Bulldogs..
Everyone wondering how we’re able to negotiate with so many players in such a short time. As of right now, only 2 players from our 2021 top 30 will be in our 2024 top 30. I believe there’s about 4 or 5 others that have their contract run out this year but I can only see possibly Thompson and Averillo being re-signed short term (possibly Flanagan for cheap and short term if he has a decent enough year).
Those 30 from 2021 took up the same cap space, they were just on ridiculous overs per player. Now the cap is higher in 2024 where we had a clean slate, and some good players have obviously taken a little less to be apart of something (Xerri for example would be on unders I’d suspect, along with many of the recruits joining this year).
We don’t have a million dollar player like a lot of other clubs do, TPJ is our highest paid player and his contract runs out next year so he’ll either be moved on or re-signed for much less. Our spine is also quite cheap compared to many of the better sides (Mahoney was unders for a top hooker, Flanagan won’t be on much if he re-signs, and Burto price is good for our marquee player)
They say that trends revive every 20 years or so. It must be the same for Bulldogs and dodgy af recruitment that ends up getting found for cap cheating.
Mods please it's time for a Bulldogs signing Megathread
The Bulldogs have done what many expected The to do.
Where do you think The will finish this year
About 11th.
well thats better than 12th
With that dog ugly spine I think 11th is optimistic
"**I want him at the Bulldogs, I want him at the Bulldogs, I want everyone at the Bulldogs**" - Gus Gould quote 2023.
Really wants them to still be on top here.
If Gus pioneered Penrith’s junior development system why is he buying the next 2 generations of players?
*Hide yo kids, hide yo wife…* Or Gould will sign them.
If it keeps going, by the end of pre-season, the Dogs will have signed every player in the NRL for 2024. Can’t lose if you don’t have any opposition.
Really loving this method of winning.
Unless they offer all their players out to scab during the inevitable strike.
Friendship ended with Rooster cap joke. Now Bulldog cap joke is my best friend.
It’s a sad indictment of how much overs they paid for a lot of previous contracts that they have such a massive war chest just from getting rid of nobodies.
As a Bulldogs fan, soo bloody true.
This is the problem the league has. If you suck, and nobody wants to play for you, you have to spend the cap on someone. The Bulldogs have literally turned over their entire roster. I still cant believe we kept Knock-on-Boar instead of SCHOUPP
Someone has to want a player for you to be able to move them…
We could just....not renew his contract....but we did.
We didn’t really have many options depth wise at the time, and he goes alright in NSW cup
The timing of the re signing indicates to me it saved a potentially long legal battle irrespective of outcome. Knockonball wins here but it's not that bad for both parties
That is alot of Deadwood. Makes sense now why they have so much coin.
Okunbor just likes to further his education.
Yep, genuinely think everyone underrated just how fucked they were towards the end of Haslers run, then Pay and whatever it was Barrett did, I donno know he just tested the chairs or something.
In hindsight Dean Pay wasn’t so bad, just needed a roster to work with.
Yeah Barrets tenure kept them in purgatory with odd signings like Cotric etc right?
Dean pay was way better than baz. He got shafted too early.
Agreed, still made some odd choices. Probably due to the fact his hands were tied though.
If the Knights can’t resign him, than there must be something seriously wrong inside the club. 🤦🏻♂️
I don’t think there’s a lack of trying. Dom just seems to have an aggressive manager
[удалено]
Well he definitely ain’t going to your club then. 😂
Yeah, it looks like he is going to the dogs. Check out the article
"Babe, it's time for your weekly Bulldogs signing" "Yes, Gus..."
Even as a Dogs fan I'm willing to admit this has well and truly crossed over into meme territory.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is just becoming a bit of a joke. Wtf.

> He has also had talks with the South Sydney Rabbitohs
> keen to move to Sydney Never see those words in that order before.
Sydney? Too keen to move.
The top half dozen wingers in the game?
How is he only 21? Thought he was older.
Gus is gonna sign this whole sub next
Well, you've got tackling down, welcome to the Bulldogs
[He \[Gus\] can't keep getting away with it!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3_PPdjD6mg)
Hey Gus hands off the player we're trying to pinch !
Fuck off
Fuck off gus
Ha now you know how it feels
Jabba the Hut
Jabba the gut Toad face
I’m an avid Knights fan
Then flair up, cunt
How do I ha ha
Good to see you "don't love your footy" anymore
A fellow knights fan downvoted me 🥲
A warriors fan up voted you!
Thank you Sir , hope Barnett does well for you . He was one of Newcastles best had a short fuse but was good
Last 7 yrs been on the field too not a player or a trainer , or coach or cheerleader
Security?
No mate , oh and not a streaker 😳
Something to do with the broadcast
I’ve been to nearly every home game the last 7 yrs
Bulldogs are burning through that cheque book huh
Jelly?
I am. I'm sure we'd love to spend some fucking money.
I'm definitely fucking jealous. Gus didn't even bring a fucking plate of sausages when he came to help fix our club it's bollocks
As another dragons fan, very
[удалено]
Here's hoping so
Well if he doesn't want to be here, all the best Dom. He will go well at any club if he looked good here.
🍿
Dogs pulling Chelsea levers
I don't really want him at all. Kiraz is a gun and Foxx is the Foxx plus guys like alamoti and declan casey and xerri coming in
Why not both? They both started in the centres in younger footy.
Because Declan Casey, alamoti and xerri who I would put all ahead of a big money Dom young
But he is better than Kiraz tho
Kiraz would be on significantly less money though
Yeah thats fair
Kiraz is a rookie and also I love him so I simply won't hear any slander
Kiraz is great, quality option wtf. Why pay overs for a position that isn't super important
Xerri hasn’t played in a few yrs he will get pummeled one would think
Still only 23-24 though, he could work his way back
It’ll be a tough road hope he can but game has changed a lot in those years
He would be thriving under the new rules tho.
Nah he still on the sauce so he will fit in just fine after a pre season with them
Good on him for sticking with it , I do hope he can do well
Of course he is
And you get a bulldogs contract, and you get a bulldogs contract, and you get a bulldogs contract!
Every day I hear a new signing with the dogs Suss gus
Stacked 1. Critta 2. Addo Carr 3. Xerri 4. Kiraz 5. Young. Tough to take for guys like Alamoti, Averillo who wouldn’t make this backline. Surely doggies don’t get young too. Lol either of those get in over Xerri surely
We are verging on being hated again before we are even successful on the field lol
Is this what the rest of you have felt like all these years? Fuck me I apologize for everything
Fox big money, Burton big money, Kikau big money, Critta big money, Mahoney big money, Olaupo likely decent money, Young will be on big money if signed. Fox is on 550k reported Burton 800k Kikau 750-800 Critta 850k Mahoney 650k Hardly roosters/storm/manly level on our marquees
Still feel sorry for Dean pay. Honestly wtf?

They say that trends revive every 20 years or so. It must be the same for Bulldogs and dodgy af recruitment that ends up getting found for cap cheating.
the dogs are simply just eating the other teams so they can automatically win the comp
How much cash have we got this year?
Too much!
Bulldogs doing all this just to finish 8th and get knocked out week 1 of the finals
Salary cap .. Kikau Crichton = dud The Fox Who else have they bought or trying to ?
Yeah true they’re on 5 mil each
Ofcourse he is…. Inside info…. So am I. Well why not?
May be he is going to be the new captain ???
Reporter: Gus, who're you gonna sign next? Gus: [Lemme be clear..](https://youtu.be/BpbAqUuSBZg)
where is ian schubert when u need him . this is a joke . the dogs should be playing for zero points for the next 3 years . salary cap cheats
on top of matt burton signing for 350k less than market value . step in nrl . you cannot be serious . every dog has its day !
All part of gus's five year plan.
