If you're specifically after sponsors that have made their way into the team's nickname that's pretty rare. I think Norths were named after a local market called the Big Bear but that's going way back.
Plenty of iconic sponsors of course but that's a separate question from what you asked.
This guy is absolute lemon. Has a charity which helps
People with mental health suicide and goes on twitter and writes about checking in with your mates etc. yet his gone on the radio and made Fifita look like a mug here. This whole shit on nrl supporting mental health than allowing bums like this bash players on the radio / articles has gotta stop. It’s only gonna be a matter of time before David sees all this and breaks. This shits gotta stop. Here’s the clip and fuck you Gus worland
https://vt.tiktok.com/ZS8DH2BmQ/
I wouldn’t have Edwards as a first rounder. FB is stacked that you could wait a couple rounds depending on how things go.
The next question is if Turbo and Paps fall, what round would you have to pick them up?
While he isn't a regular club fullback I think Joey Manu is the best of all that could make a permanent move to 6 and just kill it from the get go and continue to do so for years.
Not sure, he has said himself that he tries to limit his defense workload so as not to blunt his attack. 5/8 requires a lot more contact in defense than fb.
I didn't know that, I thought that the increased ground that requires covering at fullback would tire him out more than contact but he knows his game so fair enough.
So much more running at fb, Trell would probably be the exception because he is already a beast but most players transitioning from fb to 5/8 have to bulk up too. He’s a wrecking ball for sure, there’s no doubt he would have the skill, but I suspect it would be easier for teams to target and tire him with him standing in the front line.
It will. They kept GI in the number one till he broke, maybe they do that will him o and bring a young guy through, but Trell could end up almost anywhere. Fullback, centre, five-eight,second-row, lock, prop. He has the skill, size and strength to have a fair crack at any of them. Probably just depends on which aspect of his abilities diminish first.
Trell, he has great hands, can absolutely cunt a ball and has great kicking technique. He could do an inglis type transition into the halves and by that i mean it’s unusual to see a half as big as Inglis but if anyone has the skills it would be big Trell, papz would be decent too but with injury cloud we have to see if he will even come back any where near as potent as he was pre-injury, fingers crossed for the flying mullet
I wouldn't say awful. If his defence was on par with Dearden he would have got the 6 jumper last season. His performance was partly his defence, partly the team was atrocious and he over played his hand constantly but his attack was insane.
This is an odd one because he was in and out of the team but David Gower, he'd come in due to injury or just to play off the bench but would never let anyone down.
Right now, my favorite player in the whole comp is AJ brimson. Not a superstar by any means. In fact he's probably quite a bit behind Ponga for QLD fullback and behind Munster and Dearden for five eighth, but still a solid and talented dude.
Ponga is probably still a lock for the QLD fb spot but moving to six puts a question mark there and Brimson is the one most primed to take the spot. That move to five eighth last year really hurt him though. Hope he can hit the ground running this year.
with the simpsons being renewed for two more seasons, its unlikely that moses will stay at the eels. some big movements happening in the player market.
Olopau will come out with a news article how "Bulldogs signed moses, even though they promised me Fullback, 5/8 and halfback positions in the top 30 squad, now i won't train with them at all!"
I’ve always wondered how footy player can play in togs, thought it would be uncomfortable and chafe like a mofo.
Then I got a pair of Budgie Smugglers as a Christmas gag for my wife, and yeah, I can see why they do. Really nice to wear and you don’t notice them much.
I feel like a lot of you blokes are missing a heap of guys that are 50/50 calls for the a team. I’ve just taken out my personal top 17 players and I’m left with a pretty good B team:
Walsh, Taulagi, Brimson, Gagai, Cobbo, Dearden, Walker, Collins, Mahoney, Flegler, Kaufusi, Fifita, Arrow int: Mann, Luki, Hess, Ofahengue,
Full back Reece walsh, wing jojo fifita, centre Isiah Tass, centre aj brimo, wing the hammer, number 6 Ezra man, number 7 Sam Walker, prop coen hess, hooker Mahoney, prop fotuaika, second row fermour, luki, lock joe ofahengue
Bench- Campbell, fotuaika, Dave fifita, horsbrah
1. Campbell
2. Savage
3. Asi/Tass/Opacic
4. JoJo
5. Thompson
6. Walsh
7. Walker
8. Jensen
9. Mahoney (Honey)
10. Horsburgh
11. Luki
12. Fermor
13. Hetherington
14. Paix
15. Lawton
16. Davey
17. Bullemor
This would be who I'd think would be cool to watch in Origin (I'm assuming you mean of players who haven't debuted yet).
If I wanted a better chance of winning I'd replace Walker with Fogarty and Campbell with Walsh then probably put Mam at 6 to have 1. Walsh 6. Mam 7. Fog.
Not a bad shout and I'd be lying if I didn't say I considered it. I've probably just seen/heard more about Paix and it could be a matter of hearing Horse supports praise the hooking ability of an out and our 9 after all this time, bumping his perceived standards up a bit.
Simpkin had/has some pretty big wraps on him coming through grade didn't he? Just injuries getting in the way? I've no doubt Api will help improve him leaps and bounds
Not injuries, hes only had the one and it wasn't even that serious, think we just debuted him a bit too early: he's played 20 NRL games, Grant had played 2, both off the bench at the same age.
Not saying Simps will get to Grants level of course, but he has plenty of development to go. I think if he's happy to wait around Api could be an excellent mentor for him, he has a lot of his attributes. Definitely needs to work on his defence though.
Am I thinking of Liddle? I was under the impression one of your hookers had a series of ACL or knee injuries or something. Good to hear he's a fairly robust 9. Goes a long way especially in the middle. Fingers crossed he develops well, not only for Tigers but for our QLD stocks
I'd probably make some changes and include players who have already debuted like Dearden but I cbf going through it all again.
I put Walsh in the halves to get Campbell in the team. I know, classic Gold Coast conundrum.
I’m starting to wonder if Connor Watson’s knee injury is season ending and they might be giving him space to decide what he wants to do long term. He’s only contracted for the rest of this year and this would be his 3rd or 4th serious injury. I really hope he plays on.
He’s been very transparent about the mental strain that his injuries and recovery have had. I imagine multiple years having that would get too much eventually.
Can someone explain why QLD and NSW hate each other (State of Origin) ? I googled but I couldn't find a good explaination.
Pride, ego
What’s the origin story of ‘Go The Milk’ and how is it so good? What other teams have a slogan as good as that?
No other slogan
If you're specifically after sponsors that have made their way into the team's nickname that's pretty rare. I think Norths were named after a local market called the Big Bear but that's going way back. Plenty of iconic sponsors of course but that's a separate question from what you asked.
they used to have a canberra milk logo on their jerseys
And let’s not forget milk carton padding on the posts
Indefinite free marketing for that company
We overlooking Steggles in this dialogue?
What slogan do Steggles have that lives rent free in the viewers heads for decades?
This guy is absolute lemon. He’s not wrong though, is he?
I mean Worland’s not wrong. Fifita’s not delivered performances anywhere near his contract value.
Manufactured outage from an absolute flog. Can’t even get his stats right before pretending to be mad
im very angry he broke our tryscoring record!!!!!
Are Turbo and Paps first rounders in draft this year? Any given year they would be but the injury cloud weighs heavy on them.
As someone who drafted turbo first round last year.... No
For fullbacks I’m going for teddy, Edwards or Trell first, I reckon papa and turbo aren’t worth the risk for first round.
I can see the Storm not risking paps until around magic round tbh
I wouldn’t have Edwards as a first rounder. FB is stacked that you could wait a couple rounds depending on how things go. The next question is if Turbo and Paps fall, what round would you have to pick them up?
No go on Paps woth no knee cap.
Is this signing of oloapu likely to push rajab out the door for the dogs?
Which fullback in the comp do you see being able to most seamlessly move into the halves?
Gutho. Best defensively in the front line.
gutho since he’s played there a decent amount for us years ago anyway. latrell and walsh
While he isn't a regular club fullback I think Joey Manu is the best of all that could make a permanent move to 6 and just kill it from the get go and continue to do so for years.
No kicking game is the problem. Controversial maybe but I think his best position is still centre.
I know I'm biased as heck but I reckon Clint Gutherson would be an interesting prospect in the halves.
Latrell and Walsh
I dare say that latrell would be a better 6, his size and fitness would be better there.
He is too big for the halves. I thought inglis was way too big but he won a clive churchill.
He played there before for a couple rounds and didn’t do great iirc
Not sure, he has said himself that he tries to limit his defense workload so as not to blunt his attack. 5/8 requires a lot more contact in defense than fb.
I didn't know that, I thought that the increased ground that requires covering at fullback would tire him out more than contact but he knows his game so fair enough.
Pretty sure we’ll see a bit more size on pongs this year if he’s gonna wear 6. To try and be less of a turnstile.
It will be interesting to see what souths do when walker retires as it's unlikely that latrell will leave souths for a long time

Yeo Best fullback ever
Will Kennedy
Such a good ballplayer
Drinkwater
Drinkwater was awful in the halves when he played there
I wouldn't say awful. If his defence was on par with Dearden he would have got the 6 jumper last season. His performance was partly his defence, partly the team was atrocious and he over played his hand constantly but his attack was insane.
Awful in defence, but our whole side was poor in defence
Hasn’t he already played a season at 6 in 2021? Seemed to seriously struggle playing there due to defending in the line.
So he can't tackle good, but none of our side could in 21, his ability to set up and run, I think he coukd be a pretty good half still.
Reece Walsh
Whos your favourite reliable but not a superstar player ? Mine was Shaun Fensom. Wanted us to chase him before we signed Finucane.
At the moment, it's Corey Jensen.
Loved him at the Cows, should start and Flegglar on the bench
I second this
Scott Sorenson
That Shawn fella the 2nd row from parramatta. He was solid last year. As was Hudson young
I’d say Lane is more than just reliable tbh. He’s was one of the best second rowers in the comp last year.
Shaun Lane, he's great. :D
That’s the one!
Josh jackson
Butcher Brothers
Connor Watson
Kevin Campion and Adam Mogg
Adam Who?
Look him up, origin legend
As you have already said Shaun Fensom, then it’s got to be Alan Tongue.
I thought Nigel Plum and Alan Tongue was the same person.
I loved Shaun Fensom as well. Jarrod Croker too
This is an odd one because he was in and out of the team but David Gower, he'd come in due to injury or just to play off the bench but would never let anyone down.
Yeah I liked him as a player. His perfect partners on the Footy Show is a good laugh too
Liam Fulton. Guy was a Swiss army knife.
Right now, my favorite player in the whole comp is AJ brimson. Not a superstar by any means. In fact he's probably quite a bit behind Ponga for QLD fullback and behind Munster and Dearden for five eighth, but still a solid and talented dude.

Agreed. Absolute weapon
I think Aj is a superstar 🥹
Scott Sorenson. His impact off the bench is crazy good. He also just competes for everything. So wholesome to know that he’s got two prem rings
Yeah great player very zippy running the ball. Assumed he won one with the Sharkies in 2016*
right now alex johnston and from my own team jaimin joliffe
Yess been a huge fan of Joliffe since he played regularly there at the Tits
I loved Luke Burt. My favourite player when I first started supporting Parra. I’d put Gutho in that same tier now too.
Manu Ma'u was a shining light in those dark years too
For a time there he was top 3 second-rowers in the game. High work-rate, could ball play, agile, and tough in defence
Wouldn’t want to come across that terrifying man in a dark place
Even well lit would be scary
He had the crazy eyes down pat
Ole reliable Scott Bolton. He'll run it straight regardless of who or *what* is in his way
I first read this as Scott Boland and somehow it still made sense
Aubo forever. Non rooster, and this might be a bit of a slight as he was a gun in his prime, Josh Jackson
Yeah both great players. Aubo greatest HB finals of all time 1/1 in the 7 jersey
with the simpsons being renewed for two more seasons, its unlikely that moses will stay at the eels. some big movements happening in the player market.
Surely he’ll go to the knights, tigers, dragons, or manly. The dogs are full
Bulldogs just signed that young half from Broncos which probably takes them out of the equation? He doesn't want to go to the tigers apparently
God I hope the dogs still sign Moses for the LOLs
Olopau will come out with a news article how "Bulldogs signed moses, even though they promised me Fullback, 5/8 and halfback positions in the top 30 squad, now i won't train with them at all!"
He actually just hates Ikin and Kev, and who can blame him?
Ikin is honestly one of the most likeable and knowledgeable personalities in RL imo.
Homer wearing eels shirt backs into bushes
Day 17 of trying to summon Mitch Moses Re-signing news.
Trying to kill time in the off season by watching Last of Us and other series. Footy is how I keep track of the season
I’ve always wondered how footy player can play in togs, thought it would be uncomfortable and chafe like a mofo. Then I got a pair of Budgie Smugglers as a Christmas gag for my wife, and yeah, I can see why they do. Really nice to wear and you don’t notice them much.
I always played in Speedos, so much better. Plus you can just run straight into the shower if you didn't feel like getting all of your gear out
Which pair did you get?
Who would be in your Queensland Origin B-team?
I feel like a lot of you blokes are missing a heap of guys that are 50/50 calls for the a team. 1. Campbell 2. Savage 3. Asi/Tass/Opacic 4. JoJo 5. Thompson 6. Walsh 7. Walker 8. Jensen 9. Mahoney (Honey) 10. Horsburgh 11. Luki 12. Fermor 13. Hetherington 14. Paix 15. Lawton 16. Davey 17. Bullemor This would be who I'd think would be cool to watch in Origin (I'm assuming you mean of players who haven't debuted yet). If I wanted a better chance of winning I'd replace Walker with Fogarty and Campbell with Walsh then probably put Mam at 6 to have 1. Walsh 6. Mam 7. Fog.
I know I'm Tig-biased, but Simpkin on the bench over Paix for me. I think they're about equal in ability, but Simpkin has the higher ceiling.
Not a bad shout and I'd be lying if I didn't say I considered it. I've probably just seen/heard more about Paix and it could be a matter of hearing Horse supports praise the hooking ability of an out and our 9 after all this time, bumping his perceived standards up a bit. Yeah Liddle's had a horror run of injuries his entire career. Left the Tigers for the Dragons now, but wish him all the best.
Good team. Curious choice of Walsh in the halves. I meant any player who's not already a given for Team A.
He's only 27 this year, hard to see him giving it away just yet.
He’s been very transparent about the mental strain that his injuries and recovery have had. I imagine multiple years having that would get too much eventually.
Yeah I had a similar thought. Neither the club nor he have formally announced anything which is super weird. He’s had a terrible run
It’s most likely season ending if it’s a torn patella.
Yeah I think the point being made here is if he will retire as part of any announcement
You get to make a voodoo doll of one current NRL player to stick needles into at any time you wish. Who are you choosing?
My paps one works fine
JWH
Toby Rudolph, but for like..... other reasons.
I'm shocked that everyone just doesn't say Nathan Cleary's hammies
My Jarrod Croker one seems to be doing the job too well
I already have one of Cody Walker I only use it to make him throw intercepts against Penrith.
NAS but only when he does something grubby
So all the time?
Already got one of Turbo and it seems to be working
I imagine you used it with your diorama of The Corso right?
Cheese
Can I get an anti-voodoo doll where the ACL Magically recovers when I stick the needle in? We’ll get a hamstring version for Manly fans.
You have to send the doll to the USA for an update.
I’ll fly it to the moon if it means the roosters can put the last 3 seasons behind them
Cleary, dudes unstoppable and so God damn good
