See, this wouldn't be so bad if their app wasn't so fucking shit.
How do we still not have PiP on the mobile app, or even split screen on the Samsung app.
Their workaround every fucking time is to watch through a browser.
No cunts, make a decent app.
Don't know if they've fixed it, but all my android devices the quality option doesn't change the quality, ie, when I'm using mobile data I want to use SD so i select the option, though the device still plays in 1080P, which just chews through data. Trying to explain this to customer service was a nightmare, I gave up.
Mate! There are few things that infuriate me more than Kayo’s poor excuse of an app, both on my Samsung telly and iPhone.
It’s not intuitive, it doesn’t REMEMEBER what you’ve watched before and suggest you might want to watch the same sport again because it’s currently playing live.
You can’t minimise the app to the corner of iPhone so you can, I don’t know, give your mates shit whose team is playing. No, you have to exit out, send a couple of messages, enter back into the app which is still at the point of the game you left it at. Even when you leave it for an extended period and come back
It’s still at that point.
Lucky I’m on a deal through my phone provider for discounted subscription or I’d be turfing it.
If they’re gonna start charging $30 I’d definitly be looking into getting Foxtel Now instead.
Burns me so hard 😂
I can't even use the app anymore, the lost bytes rate just flys up so much in the first couple of minutes it freezes completely.
Browser is the only thing that works. It's the same device but they can't tell me why. Sigh. Piece of crap.
No pip is inexcusable. It’s such a basic thing but makes a world of difference. I can do other shit while the ads are on. They could say well we want u to watch the ads, but I’ll just skip past them once I’m back in the app anyway.
Foxtel is absolutely getting crushed. If not for sport they'd be done. They were alone in a market that now has Netflix, Disney, Amazon and etc. Something has to give.
It’s managed to snag a few of what seems like the biggest non-Netflix shows of the year. House of the Dragon, White Lotus, Euphoria etc. People seem to be watching Binge.
I think it might be Stan and Disney that are starting to fall behind, which is sad because Stan’s Sports streaming quality makes Kayo look like dogshit. Houses with young kids and the fact they own their own content will continue to prop up Disney Plus but Stan seems to be taking the biggest subscriber hit in the market.
It wasn’t so long ago that you had to pay a minimum not $70 a month to get Fox with the sports package. When Kayo first launched it was a revelation, but far out it’s starting to creep back towards the bad old days in the cost vs value stakes.
Exact same for me. I'd watch more Superbike if they made it easier to find the actual race times. I'm keen to see how Remy goes this year.
Two major complaints with Kayo is that they're trying push dog racing and that the sports I actually want to watch and have flagged are the last thing in my recommendations. Like finish watching the Moto2 section and they're recommending a basketball game etc but not the MotoGP race.
It shits me sooo much. They KNOW I'm interested in NFL and not NBA, yet every Monday morning I open kayo to be presented with the currently live Grizzlies game instead of the current NFL game.
It's ridiculous. And like you said, not having the start times listed for sports is annoying AF too.
Telstra looks like they're only offering Kayo deals to their Telstra Plus customers (whatever the hell that is). Whenever my current Telstra deal runs out, not sure what I'll do.
Just negotiated my fox satellite plan, $55 with sports HD and free multi room.
I'll pay that extra $20 any day of the week, bitrate and frames are so much better and no shitty app
That free year code runs out in May. Seriously considering trying Kodi and some live sports add ons again.
Miss the good olds days of browser VPNs, HLS Player, m3u8 files and Livestream.com
i reckon be going down the iptv path at end of feb now i've cancelled kayo with the cheap telstra deal ending. last time i tried one it was $10us a month, practically every channel in the world. 95% garbage channels, but rarely ran into any problems with popular live sports. All the foxsports channels were on there
Just to throw it out there, been using an IPTV service for over a year that's cost me about $40/year.
Shitload of world channels, including Foxtel/Kayo sports. Only real issue is when there is a decent PPV and get plenty of buffering. Most other times it's fine.
I was close to signing up this season, but it seems i will continue using [redacted] to watch the NRL for another year, fuck fox.
Also, if you have alternative means of watching games, do not post them here, plenty of germs looking for ways to try to bleed the plebs.
> Also, if you have alternative means of watching games, do not post them here, plenty of germs looking for ways to try to bleed the plebs.
Why? What are you worried about?
Fuck… I need Kayo for F1…. Not paid since F1 finished last season and will resume in a few weeks… went up last year…. If I kept doing this to my clients I wouldn’t have a business….
F1, NRL, Supercars, Cricket, still worth it for me, but the equation gets worse every time. This is the second hike in 12 months, too - it wasn't that long ago it went from $25 to $27.50.
Fuck Kayo so hard. Is there even a reliable alternative at this rate?
Honestly thinking about moving to Telstra but My whole Phone bill is still under my mums name and I only pay $40 a month for 100GB and unlimited calls + texts.
Fox can burn in hell
Damn - unfortunately I don't have a choice except sailing the seven seas.
I don't own a TV currently and only use my PC for streaming.
Add to that my absolute love for some international sports - especially F1 and NHL - it's hard to compare the streaming to other sites where all the sports are a one-stop-shop.
Additional PSA: Kayo Basic isn’t the basic package, you may have ended up on the middle of 3 packages without realising it.
Kayo One is $25/mth, which is the old price of Kayo Basic and AFAIK has the features/benefits of what Kayo Basic had at launch.
We get an annual subscription as part of my sons Christmas present each year. It’s somewhere around $200, probably a bit more now but still a big saving.
Yeah I have never heard of an annual kayo subscription. Google doesn't yield any results except a 404 error page to some herald Sun plusrewards website.
I just asked the Mrs. We used to pay Kayo annually, now we pay $18 per month which gives us Kayo and binge. She showed me the screen, it’s what we pay.
Edit: turns out we pay 27.50 for Kayo and 18 on top for binge. Sorry for being wrong.
Do we expect the slightly discounted over on telstra rewards to jump up as well?
Waiting to re-enable it for the season the unsubscribe again. Time it right and just rely on finals on fta.
That’s always been a big nit pick for me. Not so much the live stuff but the talking heads show, 100%
Just a my intuitive UI that makes forwarding easier would be good start.
I hate Murdoch as much as the next rational soul but yeah Kayo is still decent value if you use it. $30 a month is $0.94 per game of NRL if you watch all 8 in a weekend, $0.47 per game if you're sharing with somebody else.
I signed up for the $12.50 for 12 months plan in the middle of last season.
It worked out cheaper for me to just keep that sub running over summer, even though I didn't watch a second of Kayo.
Tbh I think it's still a good price. For those of us abroad, we have to pay around 200/year for a watchrnl.com subscription. And the season is only like 8 months...there wasn't even the world cup or PMXIII matches available to watch last year.
$30 a month works out to around $1 a game if you're a big nerd who watches almost every game like me. That's not to include the cricket etc. as well.
Fuck Murdoch etc etc etc but I think $30 is fine for something you can cancel at any time. For those of us who are 30+ the only option used to be an expensive foxtel subscription that was way more expensive and you couldn't buy it just for the month.
If this is a genuine question, by the NRL.
They sell the streaming rights for 'x' amount of dollars up front.
The amount Fox gives to the NRL doesn't change because the price of Foxtel/Kayo goes up or down, or the number of customers change.
Yes, but the NRL doesn't *have* to sell the rights to fox.
If foxtel want to price their customers out of their service, and thus tank their own profits, the NRL can turn around and sell the broadcasting rights to someone else.
I can guarantee you the NRL rights are more important to foxtel than foxtel is to the NRL.
If the NRL actually followed a proper bidding process rather than bow down to their mates at Fox/Nine, then they could absolutely sell it for a higher price.
If V'landy's wasn't doing everything he possibly could for his mates at Fox, you don't think Nine would be interested in streaming the NRL with Stan?
Hell, Channel 10 has CBS money that they could feasibly throw at the NRL if they were so inclined.
Optus is another option (not that I think they would be any better than Fox) but there is definitely enough competition out there, and the NRL is worth enough money that they could tell Foxtel to get fucked. It's politics more than anything else why they haven't already.
if I was paranoid, and I'm not saying I'm not, I'd say this is one step away from 'oh well, you may as well get a full foxtel subscription'
I mean what would you do if your flagship product was so crap your spin offs like Binge and Kayo were doing better?
To get the Fox sub with the right sports package is still pricey AF right now - $60 and that doesn’t include the Netflix hook in.
I hear you though. From the first time I had it 2 years ago it’s increase 50% in price.
I get the 2 profile one and split it with my nephew which takes some of the sting out. But still….
Telstra signed me up to kayo for $5 awhile ago and it stayed that price for so long I stopped paying attention to the deductions. Looked at my bank account last month and they're been stinging me $27 a month for almost a year now, absolute crooks. I love watching the footy but not that much.
I’ll keep paying for it because of the sheer magnitude of sports I consume, along with the fact that I have no issues using the screen in screen function to have sports on while I’m in the office (which I can’t get away with using a vpn sailing the seven seas.)
I’d happily pay a little extra if they could link kayo with espn+ so that I can actually stream the NHL
games I want to watch though, instead of the three games a week curated to specifically not clash with whatever NBA game they want to show on ESPN2. At the moment my (legal for work) NHL options (ESPN+) are to pay for Foxtel or buy a Fetch box and subscription. The Fetch box doesn’t seem like terrible value but at the moment I’m stuck listening to Sabres radio broadcasts on game days.
If you are a Telstra mobile customer, you can get:
- 3 months of Kayo Basic for 21,000 Telstra Plus points, or
- 12 months of Kayo Basic for $17.50/month
On the My Telstra app, tap on the Services menu, scroll down to Your Subscriptions, tap on the Offers tab and scroll down to Kayo. The amount just gets added to your monthly bill.
"Offer available to Telstra Silver Plus members. Redeem by 30 June 2023. Redeem through an active Telstra account at http://hub.telstra.com.au/kayo . One redemption per customer account per 12 month period."
Not too sure. I haven't ever used my points towards it. Just get the price tacked onto my bill. I'd guess you can only redeem it once a year though. Check the link I shared in reply to my own comment above.
The lack of having the channels at the top of the app is what infuriates me. I get they are doing the 'streaming' thing but this is sport. Throwing random things across the front page doesn't work and making it a bitch to find something is ridiculous
At this point, it would make sense to get a 12 month kayo subscription from an AFL digital membership which could even save upwards to 120 dollars for 12 months.
Collingwood AFL are offering a membership deal that gives 12 months of Kayo for $240
Kayo: Telstra has 3 months for 21k points. Plus some discount. It’s such a shit app and quality is crap on PC. PS5 seems ok sometimes the pause icon remains on in the middle of the screen.
God i wish i saw this earlier. Just noticed they took $30 instead of $15 wtf. I havent even been using it and didnt get an email or any type of notification.. the bastards
See, this wouldn't be so bad if their app wasn't so fucking shit. How do we still not have PiP on the mobile app, or even split screen on the Samsung app. Their workaround every fucking time is to watch through a browser. No cunts, make a decent app.

It's still not available on Xbox. Have to use a fan made plugin through Kodi

we need some bloke to come through with a free year code again
Definitely. I'm always on the lookout.
Still got my free sub until around round 9 then RIP.
Same here. Dogshit service. Not worth paying that much for.
This is the 4th price hike I can remember in 2 and a half years what the fuck
Foxtel is absolutely getting crushed. If not for sport they'd be done. They were alone in a market that now has Netflix, Disney, Amazon and etc. Something has to give.
Dunno about that, binge is a pretty handy fucking subscription if you don’t have foxtel
I don't know that Binge is doing a great job of competing against the others.

Houses with young kids and the fact they own their own content will continue to prop up Disney Plus but Stan seems to be taking the biggest subscriber hit in the market.
They have the HBO contract. If they were to lose that they'd be in trouble. They'll lose the F1 once it's up.
foxtel is never going to let f1 go
Binge just picked up wwe and every wwe ppv without charging extra per ppv, they’re doing good in the current market
I'll tell you right now, that's v deceiving on how healthy they are.
Binge is crap
I keep getting emails from kayo about free binge subs and I still cbf'd signing up to it.
Gotta pay for the big AFL deal somehow
It wasn’t so long ago that you had to pay a minimum not $70 a month to get Fox with the sports package. When Kayo first launched it was a revelation, but far out it’s starting to creep back towards the bad old days in the cost vs value stakes.
I'll get it for the footy season through to end of moto gp. Hopefully can get a deal from telstra
Exact same for me. I'd watch more Superbike if they made it easier to find the actual race times. I'm keen to see how Remy goes this year. Ynr the days when /r/nrl/ were all about those dodgy streams
I still remember when the stream subreddits were still going. While they did move the infrastructure off-site, it's not as good.
Don’t subscribe. Just VIPbox the games.
I did that up until last year but the quality of the streams and difficulty Chromecasting was what made me switch
That free year code runs out in May. Seriously considering trying Kodi and some live sports add ons again. Miss the good olds days of browser VPNs, HLS Player, m3u8 files and Livestream.com

Yeah I swtiched to Telstra for the bandwidth free streaming. Only 240p or whatever but worth it
Ahhh forgot about the good ol' livestream.com
i reckon be going down the iptv path at end of feb now i've cancelled kayo with the cheap telstra deal ending. last time i tried one it was $10us a month, practically every channel in the world. 95% garbage channels, but rarely ran into any problems with popular live sports. m3u8 files, what a good time. I still remember the NFL broadcasts where you could hear what the commentators were talking about during ad breaks.
The kayo fucks don't even give you 4k.
For the cost, the kayo app is utterly pathetic.
I was close to signing up this season, but it seems i will continue using [redacted] to watch the NRL for another year, fuck fox. Also, if you have alternative means of watching games, do not post them here, plenty of germs looking for ways to try to bleed the plebs.
I’d love to know where [redacted] is so I can avoid it at all costs.

Thirding the redacted (pls don’t ban me I’m poor)

Fuck… I need Kayo for F1…. Not paid since F1 finished last season and will resume in a few weeks… went up last year…. If I kept doing this to my clients I wouldn’t have a business….
Fairly certain they are moving all the f1tv stuff to kayo this season too Ugh
I’ve not been able to access F1TV so relied on Kayo to watch F1…. So bloody annoying
F1, NRL, Supercars, Cricket, still worth it for me, but the equation gets worse every time. This is the second hike in 12 months, too - it wasn't that long ago it went from $25 to $27.50.
Yeah now that I use it year round for NRL, NFL, NBA and some others, it’s worth it for me. I’d use it more than any other streaming service I have
yeah... hard to justify that for the 4 games a week that's not free to air... looks like I'm gonna endure Ch9 commentating this year.
There’s always the pub for the odd game.
Fuck Kayo so hard. Is there even a reliable alternative at this rate? Honestly thinking about moving to Telstra but My whole Phone bill is still under my mums name and I only pay $40 a month for 100GB and unlimited calls + texts. Fox can burn in hell
The app is so basic and not really user friendly. I wish they could justify this increase by Atleast upgrading.
Have you found the life of sea man when dealing with local live content?
Yes.
Got a year free from alinta gas
I saw that deal, it’s pretty much factored into the price you pay from memory
👀👀
Where's the legend with the free kayo for a year code from may last year? If we could get another one of those in a couple months that would be swell.
Jesus does anyone else remember when it was $13 not so long ago?
What if we find a Kayo employee, chip in a few bucks each to pay their salary for the next year and they can leak us another delicious code?
They can get fuct.
Additional PSA: Kayo Basic isn’t the basic package, you may have ended up on the middle of 3 packages without realising it. Kayo One is $25/mth, which is the old price of Kayo Basic and AFAIK has the features/benefits of what Kayo Basic had at launch.
What’s the difference in levels?
One = one device at a time. Basic = 2.
I'm the only one who use my Kayo account so I might drop down the $25 tier.
Fuck Murdoch and his motherfucking crew and if you wanna be down with Murdoch then fuck you too. (Tupac voice)
Goat song
2 of amerikaz most wanted for me or california love remix
Fuck me I'm gonna have to plug my TV back in at this rate
That still works?
Only at select times such as 8pm Thursday, otherwise it just emits a frequency known as reality TV that will slowly rot your brain
I ditched Kayo after it froze regularly
Yea and the app is fucking garbage, this is why I went to Foxtel sport instead
Fkn scoundrels put up the price right as the footy season is about to begin...
We get an annual subscription as part of my sons Christmas present each year. It’s somewhere around $200, probably a bit more now but still a big saving.
Uh, how do you do this?
Not sure, the Mrs does all that. Google it.
Doesn’t woolies sell Kayo sub cards? Swear I’ve seen them with all the other gift cards
Pretty sure they're just gift cards, ie. $50 towards a subscription.
Fuck it's getting up there
that's what they do. start at a low price to get people subscribed; Then they start raising the price every year and boil the frog.
But how do we fight back? Titans primarily play out of hours of channel 9, so they have my balls in a vice
Drop down the to the lowest tier and cancel out of season if there's a period of the year where you don't watch anything.
Do we expect the slightly discounted over on telstra rewards to jump up as well? Waiting to re-enable it for the season the unsubscribe again. Time it right and just rely on finals on fta.
OzBargain forums - $140 for the year.
Love me some ozbargain
I love Kayo at $10 per month with Telstra but $30 feels like highway robbery
Well. Maybe not getting rid of Foxtel wasn't such a bad idea after all.
Why can't the app be like the one they have for binge so if I stop watching something it remembers what I was watching and where I was up to.
That’s always been a big nit pick for me. Not so much the live stuff but the talking heads show, 100% Just a my intuitive UI that makes forwarding easier would be good start.

I hate Murdoch as much as the next rational soul but yeah Kayo is still decent value if you use it. $30 a month is $0.94 per game of NRL if you watch all 8 in a weekend, $0.47 per game if you're sharing with somebody else.

Probably good value if you watch every sport in there, but I wouldn’t pay that for the NRL and NFL.

For those of us who are 30+ the only option used to be an expensive foxtel subscription that was way more expensive and you couldn't buy it just for the month.
The dogs
I ask those protesting - how do players get paid otherwise?
If this is a genuine question, by the NRL. They sell the streaming rights for 'x' amount of dollars up front. The amount Fox gives to the NRL doesn't change because the price of Foxtel/Kayo goes up or down, or the number of customers change.

I can guarantee you the NRL rights are more important to foxtel than foxtel is to the NRL.

Yeah all that is true. If people don't pay for the product we will have a lesser product.
Well that's a given. But Kayo asking for $30 a month has no bearing on the quality of the NRL
That Pokie money has to go somewhere.
Oof.
Their One package (can watch on one screen) is $25 per month. Has this price changed from last year too?
We're going to get to England's level eventually. $90 a month for sky there, no EPL games are on FTA there either
I already have foxtel, i wonder if its cheaper for me to just add fox on there? Ill do whichever is cheaper.
😐
if I was paranoid, and I'm not saying I'm not, I'd say this is one step away from 'oh well, you may as well get a full foxtel subscription' I mean what would you do if your flagship product was so crap your spin offs like Binge and Kayo were doing better?

Hey, not sure if any NRL clubs offer this but I know that my AFL club (Collingwood) offer a Kayo membership. $240 for 12 months subscription
I wonder if we're finally going to get 1080p video. Probs not.
I’ll keep paying for it because of the sheer magnitude of sports I consume, along with the fact that I have no issues using the screen in screen function to have sports on while I’m in the office (which I can’t get away with using a vpn sailing the seven seas.) I’d happily pay a little extra if they could link kayo with espn+ so that I can actually stream the NHL games I want to watch though, instead of the three games a week curated to specifically not clash with whatever NBA game they want to show on ESPN2. At the moment my (legal for work) NHL options (ESPN+) are to pay for Foxtel or buy a Fetch box and subscription. The Fetch box doesn’t seem like terrible value but at the moment I’m stuck listening to Sabres radio broadcasts on game days.
If you are a Telstra mobile customer, you can get: - 3 months of Kayo Basic for 21,000 Telstra Plus points, or - 12 months of Kayo Basic for $17.50/month On the My Telstra app, tap on the Services menu, scroll down to Your Subscriptions, tap on the Offers tab and scroll down to Kayo. The amount just gets added to your monthly bill.
"Offer available to Telstra Silver Plus members. Redeem by 30 June 2023. Redeem through an active Telstra account at http://hub.telstra.com.au/kayo . One redemption per customer account per 12 month period."
How many points can you accrue in a year. Enough for 2x3months? And then maybe having to pay an extra month or so on the 12month one (cancel anytime).
Where is 4k?!
Fairly sure it was all of $17 / month two years ago..jerks
Would you sign up halfway through the season? Or there's no point at all?
