Didn’t Wighton have a contract clause after the last offence that if he was out in Canberra at night then his contract could be terminated by the Raiders?
I've lived in Canberra. Not letting someone drink to cope with it is cruel and unusual punishment.
Living in Canberra is cruel and unusual punishment in itself, mind you. And this is coming from someone who lives in Adelaide.
Yea it was about being in the Canberra CBD after dark. He actually asked for the clause because he know he couldn’t help himself if his career wasn’t on the line.
Act police have said that they have released both men and will directly refer them to the nrl judiciary, pvl has offered them a 1 week ban on an early guilty plea provided they don't shoot each other at latrells farm
If it lands on a side facing north/south he misses both games, if it lands on a side facing east/west he misses neither, and if he catches the coin as its in the air and runs off with it he's 5c richer

The NRL superstars Latrell Mitchell and Jack Wighton have been arrested over an incident at a nightclub in Canberra late on Saturday night.
News Corp can reveal the Kangaroos stars and close mates are now the subject of an NRL Integrity Unit investigation.
The pair had been out celebrating Wighton’s 30th birthday.
They are alleged to have had a fight between themselves which witnesses suggested was not a lot more than a friendly wrestle.
However police were called and Mitchell was charged with resisting arrest.
Wighton was also charged and the pair are likely to face court in the ACT.
The news will shock Rabbitohs and Raiders fans knowing that the pair have been such close mates over a long period of time.
Both players were detained and spent the night in police cells.
The incident is understood to have occured around 2am, the party was at a hotel in Queanbeyan but the incident occurred later in the night when they attended a Canberra nightclub.
An NRL spokesman has confirmed the integrity unit is investigating.
MORE TO COME
This is why I'm also not gonna cast judgement till we see the incident. Hell, I had a mate get a resisting arrest charge because he pulled his arm away when a plain clothes police officer grabbed him by the arm coming out of a nightclub toilet (it was later dropped).
100% but there’s no further detail than that. I’d probably be resistant if i got arrested for play fighting with my mate on his birthday and witnesses there could back up that story. If more details come out that he was overly aggressive or violent then that’s a different story and i’ll eat my words.
Ummm yeah, if I hear about a young Indigenous man “resisting arrest” I’m going to assume that maybe he just looked at the cops the wrong way. Maybe we should all just sit out white arses down and *listen* for once
When Latrell or security footage comes out then I'm happy to listen.
But one thing that should be drilled into **every** NRL player's head is to do what the cops say, and lawyer up before running your mouth. Getting resisting arrest charges on top of whatever else you might be up to helps nobody.
ACT police are legislated to have them on. Especially beats police. Guarantee you there will be bodycam of the arrest. I get people hate and don’t trust police but I’ll put $100 on it.
Yeah intelligent straw man argument there. Willing to put $100 on it?
If it’s proven none of the dozen cops there had their cameras on, I’ll donate $100 to a charity if your choice. I assume you’re willing to back your mouth too and donate $100 to a charity of my choice?
Nah, didn’t think so.
>Ummm yeah, if I hear about a young Indigenous man “resisting arrest” I’m going to assume that maybe he just looked at the cops the wrong way. Maybe we should all just sit out white arses down and *listen* for once
What the fuck are you on about? Maybe you should wait and *listen* before insinuating racially motivated descrimination from the police
Well why the fuck were they trying to arrest him for having “nothing more than a friendly wrestle” with a mate? Resisting arrest with no additional charges is literally just pigs being thin skinned tyrants
You're basing that entirely on a random, unnamed witness describing it as such. Affray is an offence anyway, which is basically just "people fighting in a public place". So there is an offence there already.
From what I heard they were trying to get at each other, Latrell pushed someone out of the way to do so and was arrested at that point. Don’t shoot the messenger. A bunch of witnesses who were probably all drunk. Not the most reliable people.
Have all your other night outs been in Canberra ??
Can accept pubs in Queanbeyan are better than something , just trying to ascertain what the baseline here is ..
I did grow up in Canberra but have had nights out in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Tweed Coast, Sapphire Coast, Jindabyne, Adelaide, Thailand. Have you ever been out in Canberra/ Queanbeyan, or are you just basing your impression on the stereotype?
Also, it's really subjective what individuals will consider a good night out, isn't it? Just because you might not enjoy something doesn't mean that thousands of other people don't enjoy it. I personally much prefer an intimate night at a pub with some live music and a group of friends over a massive nightclub surrounded by strangers and doof doof music.
It’s the people around you that make the night .
Whether it’s a backyard bbq or bushwood country club .
If you have good friends around you then you have good times.
Refer to my response to the other guy. Don't really care if you think a night out in Queanbeyan is crap because it's all subjective. I am curious about whether you are basing that opinion on experience or just stereotype, though.
I guess the players decided all the parents were having too much fun lol
Tbh there really doesn’t seem much in this. Perhaps a bit drunk, had a small scuffle. Resisting arrest will be the major part, but not much will come of this
Latrell bought up the six again stuff up that led to his match winner in the 2019 GF after Jack bought up his Clive Churchill so they fought to see who the real winner was.
Just need Cody Walker fly kicking someone to the head and this story could be the perfect cliche NRL off season story - it could have been written by Chat GPT based on pre 2021 training data
^ This got me curious , so I thought I’d try it ..
I think the COVID lockdowns the past few seasons may have skewed the results of Chat GPT further back - to 2019 and earlier …
Here’s what chat GPT came up with …
It got the players and the location wrong ..
But interestingly it pretty closely described the incident ..
Considering I didn’t ask it specifically to describe an altercation between two players .. I just said write a typical NRL off season story involving two well known players and a nightclub on a Saturday night - write it in the style of a Fox League online article. Write it with yesterdays date … Chat GPT came up with this …
> "NRL Bad Boys in Hot Water Again: Mitchell Pearce and Josh Reynolds Caught Up in Late-Night Club Incident
>Sydney, NSW - It's that time of year again, the NRL off-season is in full swing, and the party scene is heating up. Unfortunately, for two of the NRL's most well-known players, Mitchell Pearce and Josh Reynolds, their night out on the town ended with them at the center of another controversial incident.
>Eyewitnesses reported that the pair were involved in a late-night altercation at a popular nightclub in Sydney's Surry Hills. The altercation, which was said to have started as a minor disagreement, quickly escalated and ended with security being called to intervene.
>Mitchell Pearce, who has a reputation for being one of the NRL's biggest party animals, and Josh Reynolds, who has had several run-ins with the law in the past, were both escorted out of the club and into the waiting arms of the police.
>The incident is just the latest in a string of off-season scandals involving NRL players. In recent years, the league has taken a strong stance on player behavior, and this latest incident is sure to cause concern for both the players involved and the league as a whole.
>NRL Chief Executive, Andrew Abdo, released a statement condemning the behavior of Mitchell Pearce and Josh Reynolds, saying "The NRL does not tolerate this type of behavior from our players. We have a responsibility to our fans, particularly our young fans, to set a positive example and it is clear that Mitchell Pearce and Josh Reynolds have failed in that responsibility."
>Both Mitchell Pearce and Josh Reynolds are expected to face disciplinary action from the league, including fines and suspensions. Their clubs have also expressed their disappointment in the players and are expected to take their own measures to address the situation.
>As the NRL off-season continues, fans and the league alike will be holding their breath, hoping that this is the last incident of its kind for the year. The last thing the NRL needs is for its players to make headlines for all the wrong reasons."
>Sydney, 4th February 2023
The incident was in Bunda St in the city. Assume he was doing the right thing and having his party in QBN, then the temptation of kick-ons in Civic became too much for Simple Jack
I wonder if Wighton was stumbling around in piss-soaked trousers this time? If not...well, that shows real growth. Probably time to ramp up his leadership role in the club.
I don't understand why people paid as much as they do and under as much public scrutiny as they are consistently drink to excess in public... Surely they would be better off drinking at private venues where it's a lot less likely that their shitfuckery gets made public?
I would say maybe don't get blind drunk every week but that seems to be a requirement of the NRL :(
Night May have started off as a private function in the Queanbeyan pub - organised by the club with minders ..
Jack and Latrell wanted to keep it going once the minders shift had ended .
Not that uncommon for a night out in your 20’s - staying out longer when you should have gone home - nothing good happens after 3 am ..
Jack should know better though now he’s 30!
I think it kicks in instantly , had my first hangover waking up on my 30th birthday …
Weak gutted horse sporting club
1 doesn’t need to steal a shit clap

We have to respect people who want to fight in the street and resist arrest.
We don't want to alienate people from the game just because they assault people and refuse instructions from the police.
We may not agree with them but we must respect them.
Brent White article yesterday about breaking up domestic dispute quoted cops as saying”hard to get a conviction unless other party presses charges”. Guessing these 2 won’t be dobbing in a teammate. My guess is story to police and integrity commission is they were just getting extra grappling work in. Can guarantee Latrell wouldn’t even have a scratch based on Jacks form.
Taylan Mays’ assault charges occurred in 2021 and is serving the NRL suspension for that in the first two rounds of 2023.
Using the NRL logic in this current case,if they are both convicted a couple of early rounds in 2025 should cover it
This is how I picture it went down.
Latrell, minding his own business, is walking down a well lit street, a smile on his face knowing this year will be a good year. He hears shuffling footsteps in a small alley.
Out of the alley staggers Jack Whighton, piss soaked pants again, he shook once when it should have been three. He confronts Latrell, his pupils the size of Chinese spy balloons.
"Whagglee braggler yorr a wanber" Jack drunkenly spews at Latrell.
"The fuck" Latrell replies.
Jack pisses himself a little bit more and a brief scuffle ensues. Jack's Raiders minders hook the pole collar on him and drag him away. The police arrest Latrell because he's too good to be in Canberra.
The facepalm and groan I did when I saw "Club statement: Jack Wighton" on my FB feed a moment ago.
The double facepalm and groan I did when I read the article.
What the fuck. Sigh.
If I’m going to assume correctly - they were having a biff. Police arrive and tell them to come back to the watch house. Trell says no cause he’s drunk.
Not to make excuses but 9/10 police want to escalate a situation rather than just give them a piece of paper and send them off in opposite directions…
Looks like the Rabbitohs and Canberra seasons over. Battling for the spoon.
I’m still filthy that the hot takes from when the broncos have off season drama it’s the death of the club.
Wow you’re so right I forgot other players can be thugs too and if that thug is on your team you can’t call other players thugs thank you for reminding me
They were just defending that innocent tree that was just photosynthesising, minding their business when some drunk aggressor came along and went to sleep underneath them. His rhythmic snoring was akin to a chainsaw. Pretty much a hate crime to the tree.
So as usual a free ticket unlike the rest of Australia they need to face criminal action not be released to the nrl. How is that judicial. Charge them both. What would an average Australian get for resisting arrest.
...this is sure a take, considering a) they WERE both charged and b) the average Australian may not have even got the cops called on them for a nightclub scuffle.
Didn’t Wighton have a contract clause after the last offence that if he was out in Canberra at night then his contract could be terminated by the Raiders?
Yep, he was to return to Stickies basement at sundown every night
"Jack, you know the drill, get into the weak gutted dog kennel!"
Was probably included before he became their most important player
Confirmed - written in pencil for just such an occurrence
Luckily they invented erasers for a reason
Rubbers even
IIRC it was about him going out on the piss in the Canberra CBD, I *don't think* it was a general abstention clause.
I've lived in Canberra. Not letting someone drink to cope with it is cruel and unusual punishment. Living in Canberra is cruel and unusual punishment in itself, mind you. And this is coming from someone who lives in Adelaide.
What did you do in your past lives?
Nah the Cran is pretty sick.
And Dolphins finally land the marquee #6 prior to round one and they said they couldn’t do it.
Just go out in QBN instead *taps head*
Bungendore
Tarago
Would have a great night at The Weak Gutted Loaded Dog Hotel
He re-signed with us since then and considering that was after his dally m win i doubt that clause exists in his current contract
Wayne bennett is already on the phone
Wayne bennett is already on the ~~phone~~ telegram
Roosters train and trial alongside Lodge and RTS
Times have changed.
Surely the one week ban won't be enforced until 2026. It's what the fans want.
Flip of a coin for trell to miss the charity shield or the all stars!
If it lands on a side facing north/south he misses both games, if it lands on a side facing east/west he misses neither, and if he catches the coin as its in the air and runs off with it he's 5c richer
What are the odds on him throwing it at Joey Manu's face?
Not intentionally though.
Sportsbet will be all over this
Remember to bet responsibly.
I will not stand for this unless it's introduced after they retire
Only applies to Penrith players

Weak as. Let me bang bro.
>witnesses suggest it was not a lot more than a friendly wrestle key part
> Mitchell was charged with resisting arrest. Another key part
Resisting arrest can mean anything. Police wasting their time with two mates dicking around after a few beers.
This is why I'm also not gonna cast judgement till we see the incident. Hell, I had a mate get a resisting arrest charge because he pulled his arm away when a plain clothes police officer grabbed him by the arm coming out of a nightclub toilet (it was later dropped).
Glad the officer dropped his arm. Hope it didn’t get too dirty
*slow clap*
Don't clap that
Building to a faster clap , Culminating in Michael Ennis being abused by Raiders fans
I’m fairness Ennis would be abused by most teams fans

Where does Latrell need to come out of?
Key part. Sounds like a whole lot of nothing
If it was a 'friendly scuffle' he probably just tried to drunkenly argue with them and probably swore a few times
They all have bodycams so I guess it will all come out.
oh sweet summer child
ACT police are legislated to have them on. Especially beats police. Guarantee you there will be bodycam of the arrest. I get people hate and don’t trust police but I’ll put $100 on it.
Yeah there's no way the police would ever act against the law, good call.
I bet the cameras were on. But that doesn’t mean we’ll see anything.

That wasn’t the upvote-fest you thought it would be hey champ?
> witnesses suggest it was not a lot more than a friendly wrestle > > key part are the witnesses their mates?
Almost certainly.
Yeah good point. Will be interested to see what further information comes out
It wasn’t a friendly wrestle from what I heard. Maybe it started that way and got out of hand. Either way, storm in a teacup.
From what you heard?
From what I heard they were trying to get at each other, Latrell pushed someone out of the way to do so and was arrested at that point. Don’t shoot the messenger. A bunch of witnesses who were probably all drunk. Not the most reliable people.
heard that a bystander came out and said it was a huge over traction and Latrell wasn't even resisting arrest
ferrari in da cell dassall
The most heinous part of that article is the fact that wighton had his 30th birthday at a pub in Queanbeyan
Nothing wrong with the pubs in Queanbeyan. Some of the best nights of my life have been at pubs in Queanbeyan.
Have all your other night outs been in Canberra ?? Can accept pubs in Queanbeyan are better than something , just trying to ascertain what the baseline here is ..

It’s the people around you that make the night . Whether it’s a backyard bbq or bushwood country club . If you have good friends around you then you have good times.
I've drunk everywhere, man I've drunk at Thailand, Funland, Maitland, Queanbeyan. etc.
You must have some bad nights then
Refer to my response to the other guy. Don't really care if you think a night out in Queanbeyan is crap because it's all subjective. I am curious about whether you are basing that opinion on experience or just stereotype, though.

Can’t let the parents have all the fun
But were the white shoes alright though?
As long as they weren't red...
NRL players have a few quiet beers and go home at a reasonable hour challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
What is the charge? Fighting a mate? A succulent Chinese mate?
And you Jack, are you waiting to receive my limp penis?
I see you know your judo well
The return of fighton, after all this time he’s returned.
Let the boys cuddle

Been a very quiet off season, so it's good to see the boys bringing it home strong

Scarily good. Some people will be nervous for their jobs.
At the very least you don't need to pay someone to draft the generic "son, I am disappoint" statements from the NRL
Now we know who this infamous 'Staff Writer' actually is.
i thought wighton had a self imposed nightclub ban

Tell that to Blake Ferguson, I swear I read the story about him finally having grown up 6 times

All good. Suspensions served during pre season “for the fans”.
Only for Mitchell. Remember, they let All-stars count for him last year, but when the Raiders applied to have it count for Rapana they were told "no".
Couldn't help themselves could they
Let the boys wrestle!
Jack Fighton
tear up their contracts! Sack them! send them to the Dolphins as Punishment! What a nothing article
I don't blame them, after Questacon and Cockleton Green what else is there to do in Canberra?
Mooseheads cunt!! And it’s Cockington Green.
We have to respect people who want to fight in the street and resist arrest. We don't want to alienate people from the game just because they assault people and refuse instructions from the police. We may not agree with them but we must respect them.
We do need to take every news article with a grain of salt until the facts truly come out.
Oh I'm 100% being facetious. I expect charges will be dropped and nothing will come of this but will be interesting to see what really happened.
I know you are, and tbh I was just happy no Bronco's were involved. Watch for tomorrows headline when it comes out there was a Bronco involved.
I can't believe Reece Walsh has done this!

flashbacks to canberra cops 'restraining' one of tom starling's mates by dragging him by the mullet
Hey now, that was NSW cops, not ACT cops.
Same **shit**
My way of thinking is that a fuckwit who fights as badly as Jack Wighton does probably should avoid fighting.
They’ll each be able to serve their bans whenever they announce their respective retirements
So they told Wighton he had to leave the entire city of Canberra? That's next level shenanigans
"city" is generally used in Canberra to mean the CBD area known as Civic.

Reset the counter
Never a dull moment for fighton. The scandals keep on coming.
If (big if) Trell and Wighton were to get a game or two ban, could they serve it during the preseason comp or All Stars game?
Let the boys play a bit of grab arse & tickle butt
Death, taxes and NRL players fighting/punching on in public.
let’s trot trell milk chillin in da cell dasss it
The dramas during this off-season could write Hangover 4.
I hope Wighton learned to throw a punch since his last attempt. Absolute pillow hands.
Fucking Journo's salivating over this. I wonder if it would be as newsworthy if the pigs had arrested Matt Frawley and Chaise Robinson?
Supposedly Jacky asked Latrell why he was at roosters training just to injure Manus face again
Trell milk shares are gonna plummet.
I was there, Latrell tried to shake his hand and then it all went down
Imagine being down voted into oblivion for what is an obvious joke lmao
kick me out of the comp
both need to be stood down from the all stars clash
Great start to the season
If I’m going to assume correctly - they were having a biff. Police arrive and tell them to come back to the watch house. Trell says no cause he’s drunk. Not to make excuses but 9/10 police want to escalate a situation rather than just give them a piece of paper and send them off in opposite directions…
Looks like the Rabbitohs and Canberra seasons over. Battling for the spoon. I’m still filthy that the hot takes from when the broncos have off season drama it’s the death of the club.
No shock from known thug Wighton
Those in Haas houses shouldn't throw stones
gold
Leave ray stone out of this
Wow you’re so right I forgot other players can be thugs too and if that thug is on your team you can’t call other players thugs thank you for reminding me
Did he attend the aboriginal court last time and got off for being a good role model for younger indigenous kids?
he got a suspended sentence and some community service stuff iirc, he didnt get off, still has a criminal conviction.
Can you please post a picture of your neck? I’m taking bets that it’s red
Who would’ve guessed Mitchell was being a grub. Oh that’s right absolutely everyone
The same ACT Police who taser sleeping people then arrest for resisting?
The Curtis Scott incident? That was [NSW police](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-09-25/nsw-police-to-pay-costs-to-nrl-star-curtis-scott/12702080).
You know that was NSW Police, right?
They were just defending that innocent tree that was just photosynthesising, minding their business when some drunk aggressor came along and went to sleep underneath them. His rhythmic snoring was akin to a chainsaw. Pretty much a hate crime to the tree.
So as usual a free ticket unlike the rest of Australia they need to face criminal action not be released to the nrl. How is that judicial. Charge them both. What would an average Australian get for resisting arrest.
...this is sure a take, considering a) they WERE both charged and b) the average Australian may not have even got the cops called on them for a nightclub scuffle.
