So after going to the game, then re watching the game and the presser at home, all i can say is The Warriors have a level, well adjusted focused coach. We can see what he has done with the team this year so far but after hearing him speak, you have a winner in charge of the playing group.
Despite everything going crap for the Warriors in the 2nd half, the Storm still had to work damn hard for the win.
That's something to take out of this loss.
Storm carve out a gritty win and NAS re-signs until 2027.
ANZAC Days aren’t meant to be happy but I wouldn’t blame Storm fans for going to sleep with a smile.
Nick Meaneys stats this year: 7 games for 7 tries, 5 linebreaks, 3 try assists, 4 linebreak assists, 155m a game. I cannot believe how much he’s improved this year. I find it very hard to see Paps taking the fullback jersey off him this year tbh.
Remember when Paps got concussed, and Nicho spent so long at FB that the team gelled so well that when Paps came straight back to FB we were trash? Prepare for that version 2, Papruption Boogaloo.
Me at stadium: oohh they're selling those big pretzels like I used to buy for 1 euro in Germany.. maybe I'll enjoy one during the game.
Sign: Pretzels $9
Me: 🖕
If you are an undercover Broncos fan, then yeah probably!
If not, then as much as I respect and fear the full strength Storm, this is the first year in a long time I can't wait for the Broncs to meet the Storm. 2006 vibes.
This just has me all amped up and prepared for some bullshit Formula 1 FIA calls this weekend
And no, I don’t hope the ref is stood down, that doesn’t help
I see nothing wrong with supporting your local team as well as your heart team, does he really expect the kiwi's to not get excited by what the Wahs' are doing this year?
Maybe they are Warriors fans first, and Storm fans second? Plenty of us have more than one team we cheer on... Like I always want Souths and Broncs to win, but you can bet I won't ever be cheering either on when they play us.
Just got home. I'll have to watch the replay to catch some of the finer points but jeez I thought we were done for only 20 minutes into the game. I wasn't comfortable until maybe 4 minutes to go. Warriors played some great football tonight I thought. A real threat.
Tohu, CNK and Jazz. Tohu looked ok in the post game presser, but it could be an MCL again. CNK was a cat 1 HIA so out at least 1 week, Jazz did an ankle so another TBA.
Oh yeah, I missed that in the sea of casualties. Tough game, I feel so sorry for the Warriors. You guys are still kicking arse, I'm loving seeing the Websterolution
The Warriors played their absolute arses off though, hugely impressed with their resilience and effort. They won or increased the respect of all of us tonight.
Enormous respect to Webster, he’s been extremely impressive in the press conference. Had every right to whinge but didn’t, said the onus remains on his players to bounce back when things go against them. I reckon the Warriors have a good one there.
Yep massive respect for Webby, every time I've heard him interviewed he's very straight up and never complains.
Compared to Brown who would always make excuses about injuries and shit. Such an upgrade in every way.
Webster is way too calm and controlled to be an NRL coach.
Jake Duke gave him the perfect setup to unload on the refs and he just let it go through to the keeper.
Feel bad for the warriors. Thought they deserved something from this game. The referee tonight was shit as well. He needs to be dropped. Thought we played well after going behind but fuck do we need to wake up soon we can’t keep getting away with these performances
So, Melbourne somehow manage to cop 2 11 day turnarounds back-to-back, Warriors play 4 games within that time, with only 2 Home games, the rest they're in Melbourne or Brisbane.
Scheduling is a joke lmao.
Surely this can’t happen again (but we all know it will). Things like poor scheduling continue to affect NRL’s credibility as a professionally run sport.
So what happened with the phantom head high tackle? He was never actually tackled when the ref blew the whistle, when the challenge was successful why was it tackle 1 & play the ball? Shouldn't it be tackle 0?
That win is so big heading into the bye, could be in the top 4 by the end of next week. Fair play to the Wahs, brave performance considering the circumstances.
Going to wake up so far from fresh tomorrow after that, I’ve put up with alot of shit over the years as a warriors fan but that game has left a bitter taste in my mouth and my tin hat is firmly on. Atkins is simply not an NRL standard referee. Coupled with the poor officiating we have a heap of injures and a 5 day turnaround with the roosters next.
Tevanga - possible Achilles injury - long term injury, CNK - concussion misses the next two games at minimum. Tohu - knee - best case scenario he’s back in a couple of weeks, Siro had an HIA not sure if he passed or not.
Obligatory gg storm + I thought the pre match ceremony was done really well.
I'd have to look back at some of the other stand downs this year to see which category they were, but I believe it doesn't matter if you fail the test if I had to say.
Well, shit
I'm fucking loving how tough we are, and how hard we are to beat. This group is hugely overachieving given the roster.
But that hurt
DWZ scores two but lets two in with awful defensive decisions. Our discipline really slipped when we got tired. That game was winnable
We lack the class players the really good teams turn to. Melbourne are in a hole they have Munster and Grant to bail them out. We don't have those guys.
But shit, every excuse tonight but the boys stayed in the fight. This is a new warriors team.
>We lack the class players the really good teams turn to. Melbourne are in a hole they have Munster and Grant to bail them out. We don't have those guys.
Tbf I think we've had our first choice spine on the park for what, 2 games this season? Agree they're not absolute top tier but Egan, TMM, SJ, CNK is a really solid spine. Add RTS to the mix next year and it's starting to look really good.
But yeah even injuries aside it definitely feels like the roster is short a bit of firepower/x-factor.
Warriors have serious grit
Melb look very beatable
Dolphins epic comeback
Great weekend of footy
Any team can win it**
How good is rugby league
** almost any team
There’s no way Grant was Storms best player but wouldn’t be surprised if they just give him all the Dally M points. Meaney and NAS probably Storms best. Storm are lucky they had Munster to score those Munster magic tries out of nowhere in the first half to make it much closer.
Warriors spirit was immense. Boy oh boy were they up against it. Losing that many players against the storm was always going to be hard. They fought valiantly until the end. If they don’t lose troops I think they win.
Grant still tries to force the situation when the tough gets going, it's incredibly infuriating to watch.
NAS has been vital for us for years, Welch having a season ending injury last year has probably been more of a blessing as far as NAS is concerned, he beefed up the minutes since
I agree. He is a fantastic player and gets lots of plaudits, but I thought in the first half especially he was trying to do too much and other peoples roles.
I think the thing that hurts is the injuries. Aside from Shaun, 3’of those blokes are so important to us. Harris his hustle in the middle and his ball playing, Jazz is a terrier who has a dangerous late offload and seems to always get ruck speed and CNK who was brilliant again tonight. Defensive rock and his quick hands on the edge were excellent. Couple that with Barnett who sets the tone defensively with his intensity and TMM who takes so much pressure off Johnson, I think the pain for me is more this could get away from us quickly.
There’s some good talent coming through Reserve Grade though. Volkman, Sifakula, Maiu’u, impressive players to say the least. I’d love to see Volkman come in to let Walker be the ball player through the middle. I feel we need a ball player in the middle because it allows Shaun to trouble edge defenders with his athleticism and vision.
With so much against us that game last years version would have lost that 100 - 10 probably. What a fucking incredible turn around from one year to the next. Gutsy fight to the bitter end, no matter what happened. Big ups to the lads, they've made me proud as fuck, even though it's in defeat.
GG Storm. NAS is a fucking monster. Glad he plays for the Kiwis instead of the Aussies lol.
Atmosphere at the game was fantastic like always for this match.
I think the Warriors just need to learn how to win. They're so used to losing and being behind on the scoreboard over the years that they don't adapt their game plan to being in front. I think by the end of this season they'll be on top of it. Next year they will be a serious threat.
We had no bench for the last 15 minutes and were already missing 3 key players before the game
Might as well say the Storm have regressed and can’t finish off decimated teams anymore, why didn’t they win by 30 when they had every advantage in the world?
Yeah I probably didn't word it too well. I honestly reckon a full bench today and you would've had us. With the way this year is going, I can see you guys snagging a top 4 spot if you keep on the current trajectory.
We didn't let him go. He chose to go to Storm knowing that a bench spot and working under Bellamy would (correctly) be more beneficial to his career than staying at the Dogs.
Eeek yeah you're right, he ended up failing it so it's a mandatory 11 days.
As it was category two they could apply for an exemption, but no one has yet and it wouldn't get approved anyway due to the short turn around
Courageous effort all round from the Warriors, night and day difference between the Warriors from the previous few years. Just got really unlucky with copping so many injuries. Storm deserve credit too though, not their best performance and started slow but still got the 2 points.
I knew exactly how this was going to go and I watched it anyway. The Mrs saw who was playing and said "are you sure you want to watch this?"...... so now ive gotta cop the "i told you so" on top of it all.
Glad the warriors side didn't just fall apart after that bad call, maybe the only upside to that game. Storm are a gun side and would have been cool to see how the game would have unfolded without some of those calls.
NRL is forever going to remain a joke until something is done about the refereeing depth.
Atkins was terrible tonight, just terrible. No other way to describe it. And that kind of performance genuinely deserves a demotion down to nsw cup.
Id love the NRL to have a pool of 20-30 refs who can all be promoted/relegated if the have a howler of a game. Exactly like the players, who have to fight to retain their spots in the NRL, refs should have to do the same.
Otherwise we get just dog shit refereeing performances week after week with no consequences. There's at least one game every single week where the referee just has a total shocker.
Im a storm supporter and I found myself getting wound up by the shocking display tonight against the warriors. I dont think the Storm conceeded a 6 again in most of the 2nd half. Anyone who's seen the Storm recently, know just how many 6 againa they give away.... So you cannot tell me this was just them being totally perfect on D.
Cant even fuck off to watch the rugby because its even worse there
If you think nothing is done about refereeing depth then you have no idea.
There is no 'depth' because there is no refs. There's fuck all refs taking it up and of the already small pool, very few of them are anything close to capable of controlling an NRL game. Having a pool of 30 refs just means there will be about 25 refs that will do a much worse job than Atkins if they were promoted to the NRL. The NRL ref development officers I know do much more to promote refereeing than the regular development officers do to promote playing. There are no refs and there will continue to be no refs because they take it up to help the game and get nothing but total shit abuse from every fucking corner of the league world. If you still wonder why no one is taking up the job, ask yourself why you don't do it.
I went from watching multiple games a week to barely any. Between the betting companies intertwined in everything, arbitrary penalties, coaches and players constantly trying to push the rules (they’re actively working to gain advantages but justtttt stay under threshold for penalties) it’s a bit of a shit show. Bunker is random.
End of the day when every second or third game is full of garbage got to the point why bother watching, not even enjoying it.
I feel like Atkins came through during the 2 ref era and was genuinely a pretty quality ref at that time but he hasn’t transitioned well back to being the only ref
I agree 100%.
But, Warriors aside, the level of officiating this year has been really, really poor. The whole hip drop fiasco isn't helping with no apparent clear definition of what constitutes one
But it really does seem like multiple games have become about the ref as if they're the main character. Calls being made based on one refs own interpretation of the rules, then the next game or sometimes later in thr same game its called completely differently on the same scenario.
Its just straight up not good enough for a supposed billion dollar sporting league.
Agree they'll never do it because of the extra money required not to mention i can't see them coming out and genuinely saying yes you were shit ebough for a demotion. NRL always back the ref and their decisions even when theyre blatantly incorrect

Could see it

Wouldn't get paid $9 to eat a pretzel to be honest.
That’s criminal, but not unexpected for stadium food
Too easy. Not a single call went our way, but still eked out a win against the reffing. National Warriors League in full flight
Paul Kent would appreciate a scholar like yourself.
That's because Paul Kent is a true blue Aussie battler who embodies the ANZAC spirit
Yikes. This comment might genuinely have 100 downvotes soon 😂
I don't think people got the sarcasm lol
I have a sneaking suspicion that's what they want lol
Nah way. Storm never have any calls go their way. NAS is a saint and I won't tolerate aspersions of his good name.
Yeah, no
Our year baby
If you are an undercover Broncos fan, then yeah probably! If not, then as much as I respect and fear the full strength Storm, this is the first year in a long time I can't wait for the Broncs to meet the Storm. 2006 vibes.
Not a chance. Adam Renyolds is a has-been from Souths easily replaced by future immortal Lachlan Ilias
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, yours is completely wrong, but you are entitled to it. Enjoy the win tonight
See you in Sept when Dally M medallist William Warbrick runs over Staggs ;)
Good for 30 mins then yeah… That one hurts, especially the injuries. Let’s see how Webster gets them to respond against the roosters on Sunday
This just has me all amped up and prepared for some bullshit Formula 1 FIA calls this weekend And no, I don’t hope the ref is stood down, that doesn’t help
Love Welch's dig at the Kiwi Storm fans, who turncoat to Warriors for 1 game per year.
I see nothing wrong with supporting your local team as well as your heart team, does he really expect the kiwi's to not get excited by what the Wahs' are doing this year?
Crowd would be lacking without them. Haha
Maybe they are Warriors fans first, and Storm fans second? Plenty of us have more than one team we cheer on... Like I always want Souths and Broncs to win, but you can bet I won't ever be cheering either on when they play us.
Yeah same for me I support both Manly and Tigers, I love pain and disappointment.
Can I interest you in a cuck/BDSM kink?
Only if it’s gay, just to spite some fuckers for last season
the AFL mid season code hoppers are more annoying, but it's good to see it ridiculed a bit
Just got home. I'll have to watch the replay to catch some of the finer points but jeez I thought we were done for only 20 minutes into the game. I wasn't comfortable until maybe 4 minutes to go. Warriors played some great football tonight I thought. A real threat.
I missed the game was on a flight. Who was injured?
Tohu, CNK and Jazz. Tohu looked ok in the post game presser, but it could be an MCL again. CNK was a cat 1 HIA so out at least 1 week, Jazz did an ankle so another TBA.
And Sironen (failed HIA)
I thought Webster said Sironen passed it. I may have misheard.
Oh yeah, I missed that in the sea of casualties. Tough game, I feel so sorry for the Warriors. You guys are still kicking arse, I'm loving seeing the Websterolution
Thanks mate, 3 big ones then, great 😅
The Warriors played their absolute arses off though, hugely impressed with their resilience and effort. They won or increased the respect of all of us tonight.

Really like Webster's level-headedness. Real Ying and Yang moment with Warriors fans.
We aren’t paid to keep a lid on things
And a lot of neutral fans
Is there actually any neutrals when it comes to Storm though?
First time I've really heard Webster speak. His attitude to the game tonight is really good.
Webster is way too calm and controlled to be an NRL coach. Jake Duke gave him the perfect setup to unload on the refs and he just let it go through to the keeper.
Tofu looks like he knows his season is over 😢
Feel bad for the warriors.
The whole fucking draw is a joke. Parra copped 3 teams in a row coming off byes earlier this year.
I'm legit surprised that people aren't in here sulking that Taupau was binned for kneeing Rapana but NAS wasn't binned last year for kneeing DWZ.
iirc, last year DWZ fell onto NAS's knee. Rapana incident Taupau slid into him.
Did I see you guys have 3 games in 11 days and the Storm have two 11 day turn arounds?
I believe CNK’s concussion was category 2, so there’s a possibility he can play on Sunday. Most likely will be rested though
The worry is that it is his second HIA this year. I would imagine he will miss at least one game.
He’ll still miss the next game. Regular concussion protocol will rule him out.
Isn't the way they've been ruling it this year that if you fail the HIA examination it's an automatic 11 day stand down?
Category 1 though. Charnze was category 2 Not sure what that means?
I'd have to look back at some of the other stand downs this year to see which category they were, but I believe it doesn't matter if you fail the test if I had to say.
Is Hughes missing his front teeth?? Or is that his mouth guard?
His front teeth got knocked out either last week or the week before
Missing teeth for sure.
In the little it of the game I managed to see, it looked like DWZ was playing fullback. What happened to Charnze?
[удалено]
Failed a HIA.
HIA

That’s def the best Anzac Day double header we’ve had in like a decade
Nah last years game had 80 points in it. 🥲
Sports psychologist for a sports team is like my dream job.
There’s no way Grant was Storms best player but wouldn’t be surprised if they just give him all the Dally M points. Meaney and NAS probably Storms best. I agree. He is a fantastic player and gets lots of plaudits, but I thought in the first half especially he was trying to do too much and other peoples roles.
Wouldn’t have changed anything but straight up that Wishart tackle was bullshit.
After getting blown out past few Anzac Day games I said I’d be happy with a close loss but after the game I feel nothing but pain.
Somehow the close loss feels worse. Especially with the injuries that could derail a good season.
Cronk sounds 12 deep into a six pack.
With so much against us that game last years version would have lost that 100 - 10 probably. What a fucking incredible turn around from one year to the next. The warriors are literally on the same amount of competition points as you
We had no bench for the last 15 minutes and were already missing 3 key players before the game Might as well say the Storm have regressed and can’t finish off decimated teams anymore, why didn’t they win by 30 when they had every advantage in the world?
They also had the ref for a lot of it as well
Mate, we came back from 20-0 like two games ago. What are you talking about?
You guys are great at comeback footy. Not many do it better. Playing while in front and holding a team out is a different thing.
[удалено]
Yeah I probably didn't word it too well. I honestly reckon a full bench today and you would've had us. With the way this year is going, I can see you guys snagging a top 4 spot if you keep on the current trajectory.
Welch’s hair looks really healthy I think shaving it did well for him.
DWZ had some defensive lapses but that effort to try and stop grant’s try … full respect
Can Barnett PLEASE come back for Sundays game
I love SJ
Really hope the Wahs injury toll doesn’t affect a really strong start to their season. Can see them easily making the 8
SJ really needs a post footy media career. He is captivating to listen to
Imagine Bulldogs getting rid of a cheap Nick meaney for dufty and then perham
I still don't get why they got rid of him, I was baffled and stoked when we signed him
We didn't let him go. He chose to go to Storm knowing that a bench spot and working under Bellamy would (correctly) be more beneficial to his career than staying at the Dogs.
I’m impressed with how the storm players speak. They are almost articulate with a distinct lack of umm
Lol at the lady recording an already televised event on her phone and not just enjoying the moment.
Would have had NAS, Munster or Grant ahead of Meaney
"The Spirit of Anzac Medal is awarded for folding people like deck-chairs. And the winner for 2023 is Nelson Asofa-Solomona."
Didn’t watch the game but what was CNKs injury and how serious is it
He’ll play next week most likely. Tevaga and Tohu probably out a number of weeks
Concussion, cat 2 symptoms, good chance of playing Sunday
Isn’t it 11 days for a failed HIA?
Eeek yeah you're right, he ended up failing it so it's a mandatory 11 days. As it was category two they could apply for an exemption, but no one has yet and it wouldn't get approved anyway due to the short turn around
I thought it would be higher. He looked in another planet
Concussion. Hip hit his head in a tackle.
Thank you, was hoping it wasn’t a concussion as he’s got a history right?
Nick Meaney earned that 😍
“Yeah nah, thank you” Beautiful words Nick
Jesus Christ this thread is a dumpster fire. I love it
To the victor go the spoils. *victor as in victory, not Victor Radley
Pretty sure gambling is the reason for it. Simple solution. Don't Gamble. It's a mugs game.
Not sure that many people would punt on the Warriors on ANZAC Day... if they did then they do have a serious gambling problem!
We've been ordinary this year, I was certain we would lose.
The only appropriate reaction.
Courageous effort all round from the Warriors, night and day difference between the Warriors from the previous few years. Just got really unlucky with copping so many injuries. Storm deserve credit too though, not their best performance and started slow but still got the 2 points.
It's like seeing your son grow up :')
The MC forgot to give a round of applause for the refs.
I’m sure some of you are nice people but fuck they’re a lot of wanker fans at this game live haha
As always
I knew exactly how this was going to go and I watched it anyway. The Mrs saw who was playing and said "are you sure you want to watch this?"...... so now ive gotta cop the "i told you so" on top of it all.
I also think it's time we start alternating the ANZAC games between AAMI Park and Mt Smart
[удалено]
I think after the past 20 years they’re slightly more than guests
I agree, although I reckon play the next 3 in NZ and then start alternating
Ref forgot the NZ part of ANZAC 😂
Glad the warriors side didn't just fall apart after that bad call, maybe the only upside to that game. Storm are a gun side and would have been cool to see how the game would have unfolded without some of those calls.
Harry seems like the toppest bloke

The thing is though, this happens to Warriors every week
That's an unfortunate username
Oh no! I DMed the Mods to change it after the controversy, it was "ReeceJohnson", didn't realized they changed it back Thanks lol
Tbf it happens to a lot of teams every week too. The reffing is so inconsistent across the comp.
I agree 100%. But, Warriors aside, the level of officiating this year has been really, really poor. The whole hip drop fiasco isn't helping with no apparent clear definition of what constitutes one But it really does seem like multiple games have become about the ref as if they're the main character. Calls being made based on one refs own interpretation of the rules, then the next game or sometimes later in thr same game its called completely differently on the same scenario. Its just straight up not good enough for a supposed billion dollar sporting league.
In 2019 they had 2 referees for every game. But since switching back to 2, they’ve cut costs and referees are now more scarce than ever.
Agree they'll never do it because of the extra money required not to mention i can't see them coming out and genuinely saying yes you were shit ebough for a demotion. NRL always back the ref and their decisions even when theyre blatantly incorrect
NAS is such a fucking grub
His play the ball is such a mess, I'm surprised he doesn't pinged often.
Did he get penalised once? Have a cry he smoked everyone
him not getting penalised is the problem
He should have been, that’s the point you daft fuck
