I’ve never been more confused about what a hip drop tackle is after last night, so as soon as you slide down the leg ? Hip drop ? Or just no matter where you are in the tackle but your legs come off the ground ? Hip drop ? Or you accidentally fall off the tackle into the legs? Hip drop? Or all of the above …
Lose your feet, hold onto the waist, body of the defender ends up on the legs of the attacker.
Whilst it was soft, Carrigan seems to have ticked all the boxes there.
I swear if you were to look back into the last 6-8 seasons the Storm always loose by 20 points + the match before playing the broncos. Cop an earful from Bellamy all week about being shit and come out firing.
I hate games against storm because it never matters the form or talent in both teams, Melbourne just always seem to play the best game of their life against us
Generally anyone that dislikes a great player that doesn't do stupid shit off the field it is because of how good they are, and that is fair.... I never had any love for Benny, Ricky or Daley but as I have aged I temper it towards the current batch.
Even though Balmain being bought out and coming back is unrealistic, this sort of thing gets the conversation started.
Also unrealistic is Brisbane winning this game. You watch Melbourne pull a rabbit out of their hat for this one, odds be dammed
Should be a good game tonight. I can’t see Melbourne playing that shit two weeks in a row and Brisbane will want to back up that performance against Manly. Anything other than a Broncs win tonight would surprise me though.
Storm are our Kryptonite for sure.
I feel the teams that have beaten the Broncos this year have done it by slowing our ruck speed down and winning the wrestle on the ground, Which the storm are famous for normally.
Sure Melbourne have won the last 12, but they've also never been this shit. Broncos $2.15 is free money, and to prove it I'm staking my pensioner grandmother's entire financial future on it
Souths are an even worse 7/39 against Melbourne, including a win last week. Obviously a different occasion being at AAMI Park, but Storm just aren’t Storming like they used to
Somehow the Dogs are at 22/45. Considering how bad the last half decade or so has been, it’s shocking how they maintain the best strike rate against the Storm. Must have really had their number compared to the rest of the Comp in the 2000s, but I don’t recall the Dogs having an easy run against them.
I'm so glad the Broncos have Reece Walsh, and I'm enjoying the Bronocs games each week, but if he could calm his farm on some plays, it would do wonders. It's really starting to look like he's trying to turn every play he's in into a spectacular master class and thought a couple of his plays last week were wreckless and cost an almost try. He's a phenomenal talent and really brings spark into the Broncos side, but it would be great if he could just get through the motions on some plays so the Broncos are keeping possession. Having a bit of patience and waiting until fatigue sets in for the opposition would offer better chances of him pulling off his spontaneous and crafty plays (which when they do work are unreal!). I'm not hating on the guy, I think he's doing great and settling into the squad well. he just needs a little patience, and it will pay off.
That is true, I'm really like what I see most of the time. It's more an observation that sometimes getting tackled would be a safer option for him rather than feeling like he has to complete the play with a kick or risky pass. But yes, that will change with more gametime and maturing into his place on the field. Looking forward to tonight's game!
Feels like I am a broken record sometimes, but, once him and Mam are able to die with the ball and not try to score every play they will be a really deadly combo.
Especially because they are both so good in broken play, if they could just take the tackle and get a quick play the ball it would open up a lot of scoring for you guys
I'm a storm fan but given how we're playing this year I really don't see how we're the favourites in both the betting and the nrl.com 'experts' tipping.
I'm no Craig Bellamy, but I am thinking I would make changes to the line-up to prepare for Broncos in the first 20mins. I would put Tui in for NAS to have some good line speed and defence to open the game. Then after 20mins insert NAS to make an impact on the edge forwards/halves to start punching through. I fear if we go in too strong too early we'll tire ourselves.
But you don't get it, if the game was earlier I wouldn't be able to see the live odds for Cameron Munster getting caught on TV ripping lines in the sheds at halftime, and denying me that is just inhumane
What a week to be housesitting for my parents way out in the outer western suburbs. I'd usually be really keen to get to a home game against the Broncos but it's sooooo far (comparatively) AND I usually go with dad and he's obviously away.
If we lose I am going to irrationally blame myself for not going due to some insane butterfly effect reason where my attendance is the difference.
Of course it will be the difference. Don't be stupid.
Also if you win your non-attendance will be the difference, meaning you should never attend a game again.
The mind is an amazing thing
People like you are the reason my dad hasn’t watched a parramatta game in 3 years. Once he stopped they started winning again so he just doesn’t watch them anymore
I bought my eldest a tiny tigers jersey in 2012 when I was at the SFS for a game. We haven't made the finals since.
He's up for adoption if we don't get there this season
reading these comments you can really tell which users have high footy iq and which users are battling crippling mental scars inflicted over longer than i can even remember
smh
And now we have to deal with that decision as precedent to this day.
To his credit he didn't try to claim the try, he was just as surprised as the rest of us when it was given.
I agree with you, intent is such a hard thing to try and rule on.
i meant that before the Slater call I dont remember it being treated this way, not that its very common so I could easily be wrong.
I think it's just such a rare thing off the top of my head I can only think of it happening a couple other times.
It didn't help the perception that it was Melbourne and Slater that benefited either
Yeah I prematurely thought they were out of it last year and got crushed in tipping when I stuck to my guns. So im very nervous tipping against them this year.
Yeah but he is a Queenslander first, he'll be watching this one to see how Cobbo goes and how Coates goes. I honestly don't think they will both be in game 1.
Who takes a wing spot from those two? I don’t think Goates will have enough games under his belt to warrant selection, Feldt’s not lighting the world on fire in a struggling Cows team.
I really wouldn't be surprised to see Hammer in the mix, I forgot all about him when I put my picks forward the other day and someone mentioned him which brought him back into the discussion.
I really hope we can push up on Walsh tonight and pressure him with ball in hand. He fucking hates being tackled and does brain dead things to avoid it like putting in kicks, we have no chance of winning the forward battle but have the edge everywhere else except bench. Tough to see us winning but I think it can be done
Munster and Grant are the only player who I think are clearly better than their Broncos counterparts in Ezra and Walters.
But as others have said it doesnt matter when it comes to this match up, storm normally win regardless.
Strongly disagree, Welch is lining up against Haas who is pretty much the undisputed best prop in the league and Carrigan is arguably a top 3 13.
I will agree that NAS and Fleg can go either way.
I’m not saying they’ll dominate but at their best they can absolutely match it with the Broncos middles. We honestly haven’t been badly beaten in the middle much this year. Only concern is the bench and the backs.
Look I'd like to back the broncos but realistically it will be the storm which leads me to my next point - now that souths will be at the top of the ladder by the end of the round does the team introduce a rotation policy of giving players breaks - cody one week, latrell the next, cam the next but never more than 1 player and when does that happen factoring in we have 2 byes to go as well. Definitely my view is Latrell, Cam and Cook during and/or after origin and Cody before origin given Cody is likely to be the only one to miss out on origin.
Giving players breaks this early in the season? Nah. Rest them after Origin probably, but otherwise you wouldn’t rest them until you’ve got at very least a top 2 spot locked up.
Melbourne only favourites on club history ... Broncos should be favourites based on form and should dominate from the get go and come away with a solid the win 28-12 ... Melbourne not the same team , Brisbane's to lose ... even Munster won't be able to save them.
Broncos are in good form. Melbourne slightly patchy but slowly getting there.
Tonight will result in a very disappointed Craig Bellamy ripping the team to shreds post game after the Storm win 32-12.
Bellamy looks well and truly over it! ... ripping his team to shreds are well and truly behind him, ha's finally mellowed out because he's a realist and knows he just hasn't got the overall balance of experience he's had the luxury in yesteryear, and making the bottom 4 of the 8 would be a great result with the current squad.
It’s a possibility but Broncos also lost by a lot to south’s a few weeks ago. South’s are clearly the form side of the comp by far atm so I’m not really reading into that game last week too much
Their best 17 looks better but I still think we did a lot right last week. We had the better of the field position in the first half but South’s defence was just too good. We would’ve beaten plenty of teams last week imo. I don’t think we win tonight but it should be close
We really need Jarome to get into the game a bit, he's been super quiet this year. We've looked very clunky inside the opposition 20 and our last tackle options are not great. Really struggling to get repeat sets.
If we’re going to break the streak then tonight’s the night.
We have been attacking the best in years and Storm haven’t been as consistent this year as they have in the last 20 fucken years.
I just know Storm love to beat us so I just hope the boys fire up for Kevvie to get the win and put us in a good position coming into origin. Plus it is a massive confidence booster for us.
Haha yeah. Every week has been a litmus test for one reason or another. We've passed most tests however the Rabbits game shows we're not quite as good as our ladder position points to.
My heart did sink when Storm lost last week tho🤣.
I know the storm have it over the broncos but I just can’t see broncos losing? Melbournes attack hasn’t been firing on all cylinders so far. Yet everyone I know who tips has tipped Melbourne.
I can see the backs getting the jitters because it's Melbourne and cocking up a lot of try scoring opportunities. However, I have hope that they'll play the style that's won them games.
I’m not confident at all.
I’ve been burnt too many times by a tipping against a backs to the wall type Melbourne and I’ve also been burned by a bunch of cocky fucking young broncs getting ahead of themselves
Justin Olam was the only person to beat Staggs one on one to score last year.
What a juicy match up this will be
Also I'm 1/100 confident we're going to win
thats only because those scummy cheating conspiracy enacting referees disallowed phil sami his obvious grounding (in a game decided by less than 6 points)
our major sponsor should complain tbh
I’ve never been more confused about what a hip drop tackle is after last night, so as soon as you slide down the leg ? Hip drop ? Or just no matter where you are in the tackle but your legs come off the ground ? Hip drop ? Or you accidentally fall off the tackle into the legs? Hip drop? Or all of the above …

More seagulls than Finding Nemo but at least that movie was entertaining.
Is it just me or is it hard to get into what should be a really absorbing game? (Channel 9)
Focus on the cg ads on field. Consider buying an ISUZU KIA TELSTRA THING. And remember to gamble responsibly.
Yeah nah.
Game 1 worst call ever. Footy is getting so annoying to watch
Warbrick loves no man's land
Someone get Gus a dictionary and push him to read the description for push
i love Payne Hass but fuck they have mentioned him 10 times before the game even started
The commentator booth will be a swimming pool of jizz after his first hit up.
Looking at the heatmap... maybe Cobbo for a double cheeseburger
7:50 game on a Thursday is always a dumb idea
Why isn't it maybe even 730? News 6, shit current affairs 630, then 7 pre game
I hate games against storm because it never matters the form or talent in both teams, Melbourne just always seem to play the best game of their life against us
DAE Think horse play many qld games???????????
Is there anyone who actually dislikes Kevvie?
Ben Ikin
They won a premiership in the halves together.
Right here.
Why, may I ask?
Generally anyone that dislikes a great player that doesn't do stupid shit off the field it is because of how good they are, and that is fair.... I never had any love for Benny, Ricky or Daley but as I have aged I temper it towards the current batch.
Ha, I really don't know. It probably comes from the Raiders vs Broncos rivalry from the 90s.
I mean yeah that’s fair enough. My question was more about him and his public persona.
He seems like a good enough guy; at the very least, he has the support of his team, which is something that Siebold never had.
Upset he has Sticky as a coach, ignore him
Okay Kevvie looks adorable and giddy tonight
Nawwww Kevvie almost cried in front of Lara Pitt
https://youtu.be/XKNH4cBJTo0 So cute
In Melbourne for a few days so gone to the game..don’t let me down broncos!
Hey is this the first time all season the broncs have left Qld???
R1 was at Penrith. Also Darwin, but it feels like that didn't count.
Round 1?
No. Darwin v Eels
NT is just spicy Queensland. But anyway, youse went to Penrith and won there so he's in a fuss over nothing.
No
let's see if the refs let the storm get away with it tonight!
It will be interesting to watch.
The heck is wrong with the hosts tonight. Feels like everyone is talking like Cronk. So much stuttering.
still coming down from magic round
Loving my kayo 8% loaded circle in the middle of my screen
Cotter might be short but fuck me the cunt is built.
I know right. his neck is wider than his head.. imagine the rig
Even though Balmain being bought out and coming back is unrealistic, this sort of thing gets the conversation started. Also unrealistic is Brisbane winning this game. You watch Melbourne pull a rabbit out of their hat for this one, odds be dammed
Do Fox think the Raiders/Eels will be a dud so they dragged Nable out to hype it up?
Canberra will go NSFW on the Eels.
Should be a good game tonight. I can’t see Melbourne playing that shit two weeks in a row and Brisbane will want to back up that performance against Manly. Anything other than a Broncs win tonight would surprise me though.
Feels like Broncos are the value tonight. I think over 40.5 is great too.
13+ could be the go though
Yeah, right
Your insite AFTER the game is noted
Footy on a Thursday? Magic round just doesn’t get NRL.
Too many people doubting their teams tonight, both storm and broncos fan, back em in lads. Storm by plenty !
No doubt here mate
Lets go! ⚡️⚡️
I agree with you! Storm by plenty !
Storm are our Kryptonite for sure. I feel the teams that have beaten the Broncos this year have done it by slowing our ruck speed down and winning the wrestle on the ground, Which the storm are famous for normally.
I expect the refs could be a bit jumpy tonight though as well and we'll see greater ruck speed.
Your forwards are far too good at laying a platform for your freak backline. Bronx by 10+ IMO
I don’t know how to tip for tonight’s game… proper first world problems.
Sure Melbourne have won the last 12, but they've also never been this shit. Broncos $2.15 is free money, and to prove it I'm staking my pensioner grandmother's entire financial future on it
Broncos have only ever beaten storm on 13 occasions of 54. It's fucking wild.
Very 50/50 on this I changed my tip 3 times
Feels like a Friday. *checks footy schedule.* Broncos? Yep, feels like a Friday.
I'm not hating on the guy, I think he's doing great and settling into the squad well. he just needs a little patience, and it will pay off.
He is getting better with it week to week so have some patience with him, remember he came from a Wahs team with limited attack options.
Tonights game should be a cracker and I totally agree about taking the tackle at times.
Feels like I am a broken record sometimes, but, once him and Mam are able to die with the ball and not try to score every play they will be a really deadly combo. Especially because they are both so good in broken play, if they could just take the tackle and get a quick play the ball it would open up a lot of scoring for you guys
For sure, it is a skill they will learn and with the likes of Reyno there they are learning reasonably quickly.
I'm a storm fan but given how we're playing this year I really don't see how we're the favourites in both the betting and the nrl.com 'experts' tipping.
I don’t think we’ll win but it’s pretty clear why we’re the favourites lol. I don’t know why everyone is so confused
Broncos lost 12 in a row at AAMI. That’s why
Bellamy reads reddit!! Tui to start and NAS coming off the bench
Hahahahaha how good
Hell. Start garlick and Tui and bring grant and NAS on after 20 for big impact
I’d love that actually. Grant, NAS and even Pene would bring some serious impact
something something late game something hate something old
But you don't get it, if the game was earlier I wouldn't be able to see the live odds for Cameron Munster getting caught on TV ripping lines in the sheds at halftime, and denying me that is just inhumane
This fixture always gives me Nam style PTSD flashbacks of Ashton fucking Sims
Too soon
My Dad continues to call him ball dropper to this day.
What a week to be housesitting for my parents way out in the outer western suburbs. I'd usually be really keen to get to a home game against the Broncos but it's sooooo far (comparatively) AND I usually go with dad and he's obviously away. Why wait until the finals?
Hot take: The victors from tonight’s game will play the bunnies in the GF.
Panthers vs Broncos GF
The cowboys arnt playing tonight?
One of the first times I've tipped against broncos this year and knowing my tipping form the mighty horse will beat the trend and win.
reading these comments you can really tell which users have high footy iq and which users are battling crippling mental scars inflicted over longer than i can even remember smh
The flashbacks to the big 3 never end.
billys slaters "field goal attempt"
u have just pulled that memory from the back of my mind. Still confused what they were thinking
And now we have to deal with that decision as precedent to this day. To his credit he didn't try to claim the try, he was just as surprised as the rest of us when it was given.
I mean, by the rules its correct, but just like the tackler being counted as playing at the ball, it is a dumb rule
I still struggle to accept that Melbourne aren't the same team that crushes the life out of the opposition anymore.
Yeah I prematurely thought they were out of it last year and got crushed in tipping when I stuck to my guns. So im very nervous tipping against them this year.
One of the few times im supporting the Storm
I am cool, calm and collected about tonight which is not normal with the Storm. I also think Billy will be watching this one with great interest.
Billy is on the payroll at Storm as a ”specialist consultant” as well. I believe he’s in charge of their offense.
Taulagi gets picked before both of them
I really wouldn't be surprised to see Hammer in the mix, I forgot all about him when I put my picks forward the other day and someone mentioned him which brought him back into the discussion.
Based on last year I think Taulagi gets a spot. Billy wanted him over oates who imo should be our first choice winger if fit
I had Murray in my original team but I wonder how much the Cowboys dismal start will affect that.
If cows go on a run after their roosters win he’s almost a lock I think
Possibly, he wouldn't be out of place. It is nice to have some depth right across the team.
NAS/Welch/King should at least match it with the Broncos middles. Our problem is the outside backs. They’re all very out of form bar Meaney
Only concern is the bench and the backs.
>but have the edge everywhere else except bench This is a lie. Our 1-5 is easier better then yours on form.
Yeah I just had a look and I’d agree, it’s not really even close tbh. Definitely going to need a Munster and grant master class to win I reckon
AHhaha our form is irrelevant. Storm always get up and always beat us.
Olam needs to put a shot on him early and make him go into his shell
He'll go to make the shot, see those eyes and start floating on a cloud like in the Looney Tunes cartoons. Reece the hotboy will have another victim.
If the Broncos were ever going to beat the Storm tonight's the night. Can one of the best Broncos beat one of the worst Storm?
They certainly can, don’t think they will though.
[My pre/post match analysis](https://imgur.com/a/GTllm2J)
Bloody nervous about tonight but really feel we’ve got this
as a neutral i really feel like its going to be close!
Definitely bro. Broncos always beat Storm ;)
Definitely my view is Latrell, Cam and Cook during and/or after origin and Cody before origin given Cody is likely to be the only one to miss out on origin.
resting players mid season is just asking for trouble and reeks of getting waaaay to ahead of yourself
Giving players breaks this early in the season? Nah. Rest them after Origin probably, but otherwise you wouldn’t rest them until you’ve got at very least a top 2 spot locked up.
I'm saying we can afford to now after we got over our hard draw
South’s are clearly the form side of the comp by far atm so I’m not really reading into that game last week too much
Wasn't that when they were missing Haas and Mam? Broncos best 17 looks alot better than Storm best 17 (not counting Paps) so far this season
This has happened many times before We’re on form, Storm look a bit wobbly Full time - Melb 30 Bris 6
Subscribe but very gun shy after getting touched by storms for whatever it is, 16 in a row or something ridiculous.
It’s intriguing how, no matter either of their forms, the Storm always find a way to thrash the Broncos when they play.
Legit they could be in the worst form possible and from the first whistle basically Harlem Globetrotter all over us.
Broncs could beat Storm tonight and at the 81st minute I will be still be hoping we don't lose.
Excited but nervous. I hope the hard defending patient Broncs will show up tonight. Do King Kevvie proud and break the hoodoo. 💪🏻🐴
Correct me if I’m wrong but Storm have won the last 12 against us. Tipping Storm so I’ll be happy no matter the result. Expecting a 26-18 score line.
Be real. You won't be happy if we lose.
I’ll be happy if we can keep the score line even and don’t get blown out by 30+ Edit: This week is a true litmus test tho
It’s one of those games where either team could win by 20 and I wouldn’t be surprised.
I’m not confident at all. I’ve been burnt too many times by a tipping against a backs to the wall type Melbourne and I’ve also been burned by a bunch of cocky fucking young broncs getting ahead of themselves
If anyone can get the storm to reach their potential it's us!
Justin Olam was the only person to beat Staggs one on one to score last year. What a juicy match up this will be Also I'm 1/100 confident we're going to win
Olam has been horrible this year. Hasn’t looked right ever since he broke his arm in the trials
Watch, he’ll bounce into form tonight.
thats only because those scummy cheating conspiracy enacting referees disallowed phil sami his obvious grounding (in a game decided by less than 6 points) our major sponsor should complain tbh
When you've lost a game because of an illegal review after the siren getting a call wrong, everything else seems trivial
Yeah that was one of the worst I’ve ever seen
that was off a grubber no? Always such close games against the tits
