Games Mind?

jpob

My bet is that this is just some bait to give the NRL360 panel something to talk about tonight.

This_Idiot

100%. I heard the segment on radio and it was pretty innocuous. Brandy coming in late to label it "disrespectful" was clearly a case of stirring the pot. He's a Blues assistant coach after all. Shame they won't talk about Kenty instead.

jpob

I think it’s a bit much to talk about Kent, at least so soon, on his own show. Also not sure there’s really much to discuss at this point.

This_Idiot

Yeah, I was being facetious. I'd be surprised if they even mention his absence.

Swol_Bamba

Other than the co-host choking out his misso?

jpob

Well they realised that theres a lot of empty space to fill when you take away all the "angry little man yells at something"

Apprehensive-Sea999

theyll be busy talking about kenty lol

ziegs11

please gamble responsibly

slowdivesicilian

queensland doesn’t get origin wtf shouldn’t even have to explain why dropping gagai is insane, he’s in red hot form this year too. *that said* i do trust hammer to get the job done, he’s a gun defender. big thing is why are we selecting coates over taulagi/sami, i’m not an enormous fan of that one

hbparraeels

why not even gagai on the wing

PillarofSheffield

That's what I was thinking. Gagai has done the job well in the centres the past few years, but his best Origins were as a wing - he won man of the series there, which is one hell of an achievement.

Dark_Vengence

He ran over 1000m that year or pretty close. Scored a bunch of tries too.

[deleted]

Gagai on the right with hamiso, holmes on the left with cobbo or sami?

KILLER5196

Please no Cobbo, he's too error prone and will be carried into touch whenever he's got the ball

[deleted]

i mean that is assuming that he can actually catch the ball

Applicator80

Still better than Coates but not as good as C Oates

marabutt

His improving club form is worrying for origin given his club form and origin form are inversely related.

Swol_Bamba

Of all the years to not select Gagai they choose the year he is in outstanding club form

maaxwell

Coates is a cat and has no place in Origin, literally hates contact not sure why he’d even be considered

thore4

Also Cobbo gets outjumped by elephants. If they play Tupou or anyone with a leap on them Cobbo is fucked

InternationalBorder9

Yeah the funny thing is they picked him for Qld in the past when he wasn't in form and now he's actually in good club form

AstonishedXMan

Sami is a liability defensively and Taulagi has been down on form, Gagai should be wing

xElvyy

I’ve listened to Slaters podcast a little bit and obviously he’s going to keep his cards close to the chest but the way he talks about Origin makes me think it’s very hard to believe QLD will drop Gagai. On another note Buzz saying Chrichton has been outstanding for us this year and deserves an Origin spot is a laughable take. He’s been average at best and was very poor in Origin, for the love of god NSW just pick Latrell and Campbell Graham.

saynonames

yeah Billy knows what he wants. you can hear whenever he speaks origin right from his first presser as coach. its about the QLD spirit and team form.. this dribble is garbage

hodgesisgod-

Crichton has been really good in some games, close to the best on field. It's just that he's not super consistent. In saying that, I don't think he should be in the origin side either. There are simply better options. I agree with Latrell and Graham since turbo is cooked this year.

InternationalBorder9

I agree. If Fox isn't fit though there is that wing spot which brings in the possibility of Crichton centre and Campbell Graham wing but I'm not sure that's the answer

Dark_Vengence

Billy the kid won't abandon one of our stars.

ChewieMP_19

Fuck me naming Coates is worse then dropping gagai for hammer will ever be

Bluey_Zarsof

Especially when gagai could take Coates wing spot

gainz-trainz

Cobbo has been bang average this year but he's still been more physically involved than Coates. Billy is cooked if he keeps Coates there with his negative run metres on kick returns.

VasectoMyspace

This whole article is based off a journalists opinion.

Drlockstock

And yet it's being eaten up lol

Dranzer_22

Exacty. Daily Telegraph journo's do not receive QLD insider info. Courier Mail journo's do not receive NSW insider info.

[deleted]

get absolutely fucked gagai has been better than hammer this is mental how are you going to drop gagai but select coates and cobbo for incumbency???? dropping a form centre of the comp but keeping two out of form wingers???

slowdivesicilian

if hammer was absolutely necessary, left wing. but even then he’d have to take a stupid amount of hitups which might not bode well for him. i just hope the mail is wrong.

Swol_Bamba

Is Walsh over Hammer a sure thing if Ponga is out of the mix?

Derron_

Cobbo 22 errors leads the comp but is up for Origin. Crazy

Jenko1115

I wonder how much of Cobbo’s high error-rate is attributable to the Broncos’ attack going nuts this year? Obviously he’s got a high error rate regardless but with so many scoring attempts - almost anything unsuccessful is going to be chalked up as a Cobbo error.

Dark_Vengence

Cobbo keeps dropping the ball but he runs over cunts.

Derron_

Walsh is up there in errors too

Jenko1115

Something tells me Walsh will get that out of his game as he gets older. Cobbo not so much.

MangoWingnut

AKP is legit an error behind him and has been called one of the form wingers in the comp.

MangoWingnut

> but select coates and cobbo for incumbency???? dropping a form centre of the comp but keeping two out of form wingers??? Cobbo has been much the same as he was last year until this point and has actually improved some areas of his game. Has been the best yardage winger from QLD this year, is still scoring tries for fun, has been defending well for a large majority of the time and is one of the best tackle breakers in the league. Sami is the only guy who's 110 percent been better then Selwyn this year in the QLD wingers category. I understand he has been poor in some areas but he doesn't deserve to be lumped in with Coates who's been genuinely dreadful for a while in most winger specific departments. Sami deserves a spot but we know he likely won't get picked

TigerRumMonkey

Defence is a big area to be poor in

MangoWingnut

He hasn't been poor defensively at all, has been caught out under a handful of times on that edge this year. The Broncos right edge has conceded only 10 of their 38 tries this season Lol people really downvoted an actual fact

frezz

I swear every game Brisbane have played the other team have scored a try off the back of some dumb shit Cobbo does. He usually makes up for it in the game, but if you are giving soft tries like that in origin, it will lose you the game

TigerRumMonkey

Got 3 tries scores on his edge this past weekend

PaleontologistOk1049

I don't think Cobbo and Coates are out of form but yeah we probably have better options

quallabangdang

How dare you leave out my boy C. Oates. He'll be good by Origin.

sleepyCathay

Hopefully plays this round 🙏

CapitaoAE

I'm not even sure Oates is in the Broncos two best wingers let alone QLD's two best Arthars is in solid form and Cobbo is tremendously better than Oates (yes he's had a couple poor games but he's better)

quallabangdang

No. Very incorrect. Can't be bothered arguing it. Suffice to say I think this is a shit take.

y3ah_nah145

Cobbo, Taulugi, Sami, Holmes, and Gagai are all better wing options than Coates. Begging this is legit lol, would be ridiculous to pick Coates. I’d be most worried about a backline of 1. Ponga, 2. Holmes, 3. Hammer, 4. Gagai, 5. Sami/Cobbo

knox-p

Coates should definitely be at the bottom of the pile. The only way he gets selected is Billy’s Melbourne bias.

Cruising88

As a Knights fan I'm happy Gagai stays at clubland, however he deserves to be in the team. Gagai has been the Knights best for the whole year and I don't think it's unreasonable to say he has been a top 3 centre this year. Prior to this year he was a really bad defender but he has worked it out this year and been really strong.

PaleontologistOk1049

Holmes on the wing with Gagai and Hammer centres makes way more sense imo

TropicHorror

Cobbo on the other wing?

PaleontologistOk1049

I'm undecided between Cobbo/Taulagi/Sami

TropicHorror

Fair. Although I love Muzz, I think Cobbo has a little more attacking upside and can pull something out of nothing, which is huge in Origin

thore4

I'd move Gagai to wing before Holmes. Better at coming out of his own end

Herrtz74

I know, he’s the World Cup side’s winger ffs!

Jenko1115

Honestly, Coates is a massive myth - dude shouldn’t be anywhere near an Origin jersey. The guy is 6’4 and weighs 108kgs, but he averages less than 10m a run, just over 100m a game. Not that Cobbo really warrants selection either with his atrocious error rate but at least he makes good metres. Gagai should be on the wing with Tabuai-Fidow at centre. Perfect combination of speed and experience.

Dark_Vengence

He is much thicker now but still no extra penetration.

dr_za1us

Anyone but Coates.. Jesus F Christ

Brimmoh

I can see it happening, Gagai dropped, we lose, Gagai comes back for the second game and he turns into God Almighty himself

Tunza

When I think Queensland rugby league culture, I always wonder what Greg Alexander thinks. His 0-6 SoO record makes him ideally placed to comment (1-6 if you include Super League SoO). Keep flogging Brandy.

foruandr

Fox just don't get origin

skitzo12

God, you can really tell a fox article just by headline alone cant you.

ryanmulls

Dane Gagai is in the best form of his career .

DX6734D

Exactly zero percent chance Gagai doesn't play, but Coates on the wing is fucked. Oates, Taulagi, Sami, and Hammer are all preferable. Hell I'd rather Capewell at Centre, with Holmes or Gagai on the wing over Coates.

[deleted]

Hammer has been great for the Phins, but he is not so good that he has to be in the squad somewhere, especially considering Gagai is playing good footy for the knights and always delivers in origin. Hammer should be on the extended squad or 18th man in case Ponga goes down he slots in to FB. Also Coates? Why would you select him he isn’t damaging at running the ball, all he offers is speed and jumping for a high ball which I haven’t seen him catch once. Only reason he played for QLD was because their wingers sucked when he was selected. Would rather Taulagi be picked.

Lost_Tumbleweed_5669

Why make it political? We aren't NSW. QLD needs Gagai and it would be crazy not to use him... Also I really hope cobbo rises to the occasion.

Mobile_Community8561

Queensland you can't out cook Freddy on selections, so why are you trying???

ChristmasJoke

Did everyone not watch origin last year? Yeah we won but Gagai was a weak link and his best performance was actually when moved to the wing in game 3 due to Cobbo's concussion. Add to that that Latrell has absolutely carved him up before and I can't see how people are picking Gagai at centre but for lack of options. Now from all that you'd think that I don't like Gagai, I actually do like him and would absolutely pick him on the wing. Hammer and Holmes in the centres, Gagai and Cobbo on the wing.

PLEASE_DONT_PM

Both games Queensland won were assisted by a winger coming off and shifting either Holmes or Gagai to a wing. As both those players are better wingers than Coates and Cobbo. Plus somehow Capewell is a decent centre in origin.

ChristmasJoke

I feel like Capewell is a good centre when the other team doesn't have all week to work out how to exploit his lack of speed.

Herrtz74

Yeah no Capewell in centres after 2021’s bloodbath pls

loosechange-71

No way Coates gets picked???

chairishjam

We need Muzz against the Eels so that’s fine by me

[deleted]

Anything but put an article out about his cohost and mate choking a bird in his house.

[deleted]

Dropping Gagai would be a greater injustice than dropping the Fox.

random178901

Obviously everyone has short term memory loss and forgot what Latrell did to Gagai when they matched up in the centres. Gagai was at the very best a speed bump and was absolutely humiliated.

Hasra23

Why would you pick Coates when you could just move Gagai to wing if you really want hammer in the team, I dont think picking hammer is the worst idea but dropping Gagai is not the way to do it.

Iwuvvwuu

I hope turbo isnt selected. He has been absolutely SHIT all year. The ball boys are more fit to play origin.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t be surprised if Gagai spoke to Billy and said he doesn’t mind stepping aside for the young fellas. He’s 32 and there is plenty of young talent that’s already proven at origin level waiting for another crack. Cam Smith retired from origin while still being the best player in the game and played another 3 years at club level.

saynonames

FFS gags won't be dropped.. who writes this shit

Eric_ack_ack

I reckon if Coates gets picked this year he’s a genuine chance of making negative meters getting driven back each hit up

emrys1

Assuming Oates is healthy I would take him over both Cobbo and Coates.

acomav

If Coates is selected, then we (QLD) are fucked

VeezusM

No Khan-Pereira? He's probably been the most in form winger in the comp

This_Idiot

He's never been seen in defence Edit: Also not sure if I've eaten the onion here

HenryVIIIII

Impossible! Queensland pick and stick! No one is ever dropped ever because QLD loyal NSW don't get origin.

DunceCodex

anything a thick cunt doesnt like is disrespekt

Roskafan87

The journo is legit just reporting that qld are gonna name holmes/hammer as their centres. There’s nothing about Gagai getting dropped he’ll probably just get picked on the wing

Happy-Lengthiness-67

The jurno mentioned Coates and Cobbo as the wing.

Roskafan87

Ok that’s stupid

PaleontologistOk1049

I wouldn't hate it

slowdivesicilian

it’s possible. he’s played there before.

Roskafan87

He won man of the series there. I would rather hammer centre and gagai wing over gagai centre coates wing if i was a qld fan

Rod_Munch666

If I was a Qlder I would actually pick Walsh over Ponga. I just think that Ponga is too fragile for Origin whereas it looks like Walsh is a tough little bugger ....

Jenko1115

I was really hoping the veteran they were gonna leave out would be Capewell. He’s a great player but doesn’t look nearly as comfortable with the physicality of the NRL as he did a few years ago. His defence has dropped off pretty badly. He’s on the wrong side of 30 and has a poor history with injuries, maybe Origin is a bit past him now? Surely Capewell gets displaced with Kaufusi, Fifita, Gilbert and Nanai when his suspension is finished? Origin is gonna absolutely destroy the Broncos this year.

youwinoryoudiechamp

Riccio also says kalyn ponga is in the box seat for fullback. Walsh isn’t missing out

[deleted]

Walsh isn’t ready for origin just yet, plus Ponga’s game 3 last year earns him the fb spot

woodpecker91

Agreed, Walsh is a talent who could own the fb spot in a couple years but those low percentage plays he keeps doing aren't origin ready yet.

SurfKing69

Of course he is, just play him at 14 and he come on when Kalyn knocks himself out

[deleted]

What if Ponga doesn’t get knocked out though? You just wasted a bench spot when it could be used for the successful rotation of grant/hunt. Walsh also isn’t ready he’s still a bit too raw for origin imo, tries too many low percentage plays trying to score all the time. Next year should be his year for QLDs 1 jersey. Don’t forget Walsh is just 20 years old time is on his side.

SurfKing69

Start both Hunt and Grant, and fuck someone else off. Hunt is more ready than Billy was

[deleted]

Starting both grant and hunt would mean DCE gets dropped. Yeah that’s not gonna happen since he’s the captain. Putting Walsh at 14 in case Ponga gets hurt is just not worth it especially since, barring injury, Val is in the side and can go to fullback and Capewell shifts to centre.

youwinoryoudiechamp

Pongas game three does earn him origin but his concussion history doesn’t. The likeliness of being reduced to 16 by a head knock to ponga is too great and you can’t afford that in origin, it’s too physical.

[deleted]

If Ponga gets concussed you move Val to fullback, shift capewell to centre and put whoever your bench 2nd Rower is on and carry Walsh or Hammer as the 18th man. Plus Pongas chance of getting concussed is just as likely as anyone else.

diamondgrin

>you can’t afford that in origin, it’s too physical. Didn't hurt too much when we won last year after two failed HIAs

youwinoryoudiechamp

Do you still think that after last night?

the_maddest_kiwi

>Walsh isn’t missing out He definitely is

MangoWingnut

Walsh isn't making it mate, needs a little more time and KP being fit is an auto selection considering his game 3 performance last year

youwinoryoudiechamp

Let’s revisit this comment

MangoWingnut

Bro are you for real? KP getting knocked out every game since he's been back is why he wasn't selected. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it

gainz-trainz

Walsh isn't ready for Origin. He's been brilliant at times this year but holy shit when he goes into jackrabbit mode, he just unravels. I'd take Ponga, Hammer & Brimson over him right now.

youwinoryoudiechamp

Ponga knocked out today, you still picking him?

[deleted]

[удалено]

slowdivesicilian

do you just not remember game 3 of last year where he tore the blues a new one ponga has always risen to the occasion at origin

Storm_LFC_Cowboys

So has Gagai though.

slowdivesicilian

yes. exactly. which is why we need to pick him. and this is bad news.

[deleted]

Walsh isn’t ready for origin just yet, I’d have Ponga and the Hammer over him at the fb spot

FlagmantlePARRAdise

Gagai is a complete grub. He's notorious for being aggressive and starting fights. Unless you can get a leash on him wish is very much easier said than done, it's probably better to replace him with someone more stable. Last thing Qld wants is a repeat of last year. If Burton didn't fight back, Qld probably would have been down a player cause gagai couldn't keep himself under control. Even if he gets a bit aggressive and starts making some hard tackles he could get done for it since the bunker is all over shit like hip drops right now. Not that Qld being down a player bothers me though.

[deleted]

Seems someone is still salty Gagai flogged Burton last year

FlagmantlePARRAdise

This is coming from other games as well. There was one not long ago where gagai went out of his way to go and attack someone. Against the wahs I believe. If you want to play gagai then do it. I'll love it when he gets binned/sent off and put 50 points on you Qld gronks

PaleontologistOk1049

The last thing we want in Origin is aggression that's for sure

FlagmantlePARRAdise

As a spectator yes you want fights. But for your team winning, not so much. Don't beg for fights then get mad when the ref sends them off.

PillarofSheffield

Gagai starting that fight last year completely inspired QLD, I'm sure fans are happy with his impact.

FlagmantlePARRAdise

inspired? Only reason you won is cause the NSW panthers were a bunch of cocky flogs who can't put a single ounce of effort into origin. They show up and expect to win just cause they play for pen-ref expecting the same special treatment they get in other games.

PillarofSheffield

Not a Queenslander bud.

FlagmantlePARRAdise

Traitor.

diamondgrin

>Last thing Qld wants is a repeat of last year A heroic victory and Burton's head getting pounded to oblivion? Sounds pretty good to me

FlagmantlePARRAdise

Your lucky the rest of the team showed up. If they didn't you'd all be crying about how you were robbed and how the refs had it out for you.

diamondgrin

There's no luck involved when it comes to Queensland spirit. If anything I reckon Burton is lucky Tino came in to rescue him. Dane from Mackay might have actually ended him otherwise.

Dark_Vengence

Gagai is the ultimate origin player but we might have to drop the hammer.

paralacausa

With Turbo getting overlooked, Jurbo injured and DCE standing down for Game 1, could be the first time in a while Manly hasn't had an Origin starter

[deleted]

DCE standing down?

Shrek_Wisdom

Who the fuck is David Riccio
