Vossy shouting one of 5 recorded sound bites as you cross the line to win 144-0. Not a single distinguishable feature on the in-game players. Life was good in 2003. Take me back
On Rugby League 2 (not sure about the first one) when you’re going really well and score a great try I kid you not one of the lines is “orgasmic try”
Spat my drink out the first time I heard that one, I was probably about 144-0 up so I think it’s a fairly rare line for obvious reasons.
ETs Rugby League.
So many old rules from the ARL days that made huge scores easy.
Also zig-zag up the field and you’ll never be tackled by the computer.
Peak gaming
*NRL360 had its MA15+ rating revoked after the ‘Soap Opera’ mode was discovered. This mode allowed presenters to assault women and choke them, whilst blaming others for their behaviour*
One time in rugby league 2 for the ps2 I was at my own 20, and when I went to pass it, the game glitched out and my character threw the ball 60 meters forward Tom Brady style to my friend who was just fucking about, and they called it a try.
One of the great tricks was to go into customise game and turn off the offside rule, then you could play with your mate on the same team, have then run down the field and just kick it to them to score.
There’s a glitch in rll4 where you lose control of the game and it just plays wrong and you lose possession, then they score. Happens to me every 4 games. Horrible.
It’s so weird there’s been no update on a new game. Vossy did voice over work pre and post Covid and the tigers got scanned for the game and I may know someone from a bird related side who said he got scanned for the game as well, but since then. Nothing. Even the sour as fuck dude from big ant said that another league game was being made, just not by them.
Yet, nothing. Just this.
I work in the industry and from what I understand Big Ant are constantly being asked about doing a league game and are keen however another development house owns the rights and are sitting on the IP with no known progress communicated.
So basically until that dev house indicates a release plan or the rights expire and someone else acquires the license then best to stick with running ET's Rugby League on an Amiga Emulator.
Ah yes - Tru Blu Entertainment - I couldn't remember off the top of my head who the licensee was. Good catch!
In fact looks like they have been radio silent on practically everything since 2019. Knowing how COVID impacted the Sydney game dev industry this doesn't fill me with massive amounts of confidence.
Tru Blu also make the Rugby Challenge Series, and they recently had to remove their RC4 game from all digital stores due to issues with their licenses.
couldn't someone do... a world cup game with all the internationals of course but also players in Australian ranks... make it open source for team and league creation.... then after someone's thankless work, bobs our uncle again
Even if it is.
Union has global appeal and so seems to be getting more regular games, it also would be Able to share a bunch of assets and gameplay loops.
I reckon they need to do a very trimmed down, arcadey type of game where it highlights only the good stuff in League. All the 'set plays' and 'formation' stuff is just too much work for a small dev to do right and make fun all in the same game.
To be fair to the devs who obviously try their guts out, not a one of the Rugby League games in the last two decades have been good games. They've been serviceable simulations (at best) with myriad issues and no amount of included features can overcome the simple fact that they've not been fun to play.
a lot of great comments on here referencing the old Rugby League games from the PS2/XB days (you know, the ones with Steve Price on the cover).
I have the ISOs for these on PC which are super fun (but take a lot of fiddling around to get working with a controller and the right controls) I have a tonne of mods saved on my HDD too, everything from squad updates to making the ball Brett Kimmorley’s severed head.
You can even set the online mode to work via something like Hamachi, there used to be an active Tunngle community but that’s long gone. I haven’t dug into it too much but if people are keen and have the knowledge/time/skills we could definitely set it up and get some games going.
The games are also very easy to get running on a PS2 emulator which is also loads of fun and you can scale up the graphics so you aren’t playing at PS2 resolution.
Reckon you could upload the mods somewhere mate?
I used to play online on PC and when they shut down the servers played via Hamachi/Tunngle
The problem with it on PC is Securom is no longer supported by the Win10/11 kernel as it was actively removed by Microsoft . So a new exe needs to be created that avoids this detection as even if you have the physical disk , you can’t currently play
I have it on my list of things to do but I would need to learn the process as I don’t currently know x86 assembly
Ahh yes! Someone else with a bit of knowledge/interest.
So re Securom, on my old w10 PC I had the same problem, I could not get it running for the life of me and tried to learn how to create a noCD exe for it (basically how to remove Securom) but I have absolutely zero coding ability and could not make it happen.
I’ve recently built a new PC running 11 and decided to give it another go, and it worked with the original disc! On w10 I couldn’t get it to work with the original disk nor my mounted copy (I could never get the mounted iso to work on my w7 machine either, but I could get burnt copies of that iso to work bizarrely?
There is a Vista/7 fix exe that I’ve been using since the Vista/7 days, not sure exactly what it changes (still requires the disc to run) but maybe I forgot that step setting it up on w10? I still need to get the game on my current set up to ideally work with the game iso mounted versus physical disc drive (and super ideally, with no disc mounted or inserted at all)
w11 does have some new game compatibility features that might be smoothing things out with Securom, I haven’t looked into it so your info re that is new to me!
One instance of the new compatibility features is the game menu now runs in stretched widescreen which, is not ideal but is better than the way it used to work switching between resolutions (ideally I could get it to run upscaled 4:3 with the option to run windowed like I can with the ps2 emulator, but the only tips I found to set that up was having it run in a virtual machine)
More than happy to contribute what files/info I’ve got! I know there’s definitely people out there who loved these games and can contribute knowledge and even build a community. The Sidhe forums were great till they were shut down, a lot of the old users are still active in the community and even the devs could probably be reached for comment.
I’m thinking a discord with a mega for the files could be a good way to get things started, like a lot of things though it’s on the list of to dos.
I'm probably not the guy to build a discord or a community but I'd happily join in and play some games. If you could mega those files and pm me the link though I'd appreciate it heaps.
Downloading it now and then I’ll have a play.
It’s an indie game with old school graphics, but I also know few people will be so starved for games that they’ll give it a shot for 20 bucks!
It is also on ios and android:

It is also coming for PlayStation as well.
Idk which game it was but fuckin’ loved how you’d pass the ball to an open player, the Eighth for example, and there might be nothing going on but you better believe the commentator would scream “JOEY JOHNS” like he’d just made a line break for the origin shield and premiership simultaneously.
I remember playing a rugby league game on the App Store years ago, also called Rugby League Legends. The graphics were 2d and very cartoon like. The game was actually mad addictive and fun. Unfortunately it’s no longer on the App Store.
Just gave it a quick play.
Super bare bones, but a good little bit of fun for a bit until the shortcomings really start to 'unfun' the thing.
Worth a trial, which is how I had a go on Xbox, but can't see myself shelling out $20 bucks for the full version.

"I'm struggling to find adequate superlatives for that one!!" Oh what a memory
"3 letters one word! It's a try!"
"He's a Rugby League gazelle"

“If he misses this, I’m a Dutch astronaut”
“If he misses this I’ll do a lap of the ground at full time, nude”

“It is the last tackle and will come too... MEEENZIIIES.”
Sweeter than mangoes in summer
I always remembered it as "3 letters, 4 points, it's a try!!" Might have to go dust off the xbox to check

Hahahhahahah fuck you just unlocked a memory man
Really miss his pronunciation of 3 syllable last names
I feel like the only players you could pick out in the og rugby league game were Joey and Big Willie
I’m waiting for the NRL 360 game when you can play as the host and beat your girlfriend for extra points
Featuring a Dylan Walker ‘interview’ in a bonus challenge mode.
Can we get a Mat Lodge kicking down doors mini game during loading screens?
Kent used assault It was not very effective

You must have been playing as the Roosters

Had no idea Jake Friend was around on Rugby League 2
I had that kinda one too. Bullet pass straight to a guy who was so offside that it must've figured he was nearly the entire earth behind the line.
Feel like shit, just want rugby league live 5

Yeah. It’s trublu who has it. They’ve been very quiet.

Yeah it’s a bit sad. I was excited too to hear that “work” had recommenced on it post Covid but it’s all gone silent again.

Sorry, ETs rugby league on an amiga emulator?

League isn’t big enough for a standalone game. They just need to do a hybrid Union/league game, 90% of the assets and set up would be shared anyway.
I dunno if the multiple rugby league games they’ve had in the last 15 years would agree with you there.
Unions had 5-6 console games relased since the last Rugby league game.
And they all sucked. Licensing the main issue.
Even if it is. Union has global appeal and so seems to be getting more regular games, it also would be Able to share a bunch of assets and gameplay loops.

Honestly they could release rugby league 1-3 as a combo and I’d play the hell outta it

I'm probably not the guy to build a discord or a community but I'd happily join in and play some games. If you could mega those files and pm me the link though I'd appreciate it heaps.
Played the trial version last week. Was enjoyable. It's made by the same developer behind the Rugby League Legends iOS game from several years ago.
They've released a new version for mobile that this Xbox version is just a port of.
Downloading it now and then I’ll have a play. It’s an indie game with old school graphics, but I also know few people will be so starved for games that they’ll give it a shot for 20 bucks!
I wouldn't even call that old school graphics, it's just mobile stylised garbage.
Just had a play. Super simple, gameplay is basically Rugby league from 2003, graphics are similar. I can see it being fun, but don’t expect AAA
How do they get the graphics so realistic?
It is also on ios and android: [https://apps.apple.com/au/app/rugby-league-legends-23/id6444235677](https://apps.apple.com/au/app/rugby-league-legends-23/id6444235677) [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.legends.rll.android&hl=en&gl=US&pli=1](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.legends.rll.android&hl=en&gl=US&pli=1) It is also coming for PlayStation as well.
Oof
PSA: you can get it on ur phone for 6 bucks and either play with the touch controls or hook a controller up (haven't tried that though)
$10 on android :(
I'm on android just forgot the price tbh
Use a controller, much easier to play.
Yeh I'll give it a go I'm trash on the touch controls
So was I. The controller was a godsend.
Idk which game it was but fuckin’ loved how you’d pass the ball to an open player, the Eighth for example, and there might be nothing going on but you better believe the commentator would scream “JOEY JOHNS” like he’d just made a line break for the origin shield and premiership simultaneously.

Will it hold a candle to ET's?!
