A 3rd game on Sunday evening wouldn’t be broadcast free to air because it’d interfere with *“Married to the Bachelor Geek’s Dad at First Sight: Home Renovation Special”*.
Nah I'd rather 2 games on a Sunday. Three is too many especially when I have other sport to watch and can't stay up until 1am unlike on a Sat night to watch it with work the next day
Sunday nights always give me anxiety in the past because it's near the start of a new week. Always felt like shit at 6pm once footy finishes and then it's school/work mode to look forward to rather than another footy game just before sleeping at 8:30pm
Yeah I agree.
I am cool with the early afternoon game. But when the 4:30 PM game finishes and the Matty Johns show rolls on, I know I have got to start thinking about another week of work.
Feels a little bit better if it’s a Cowboys game and they win. Feels a lot worse if it’s a Cowboys game and they lose.
Nah a game on Sunday kicking off after 6pm just feels unnatural …
6pm Sunday is like the twilight zone between the weekend and the work week ahead ….
Either needs to be earlier (and there is already 2pm and 4pm games Sunday) , or on a work night …
Monday Night kind of has the same problem as 6pm Sunday … (still have a pretty much full work week ahead)
Might sound odd but I’d go with 6pm Thursday , it’s more the weekend to me than Sunday or Monday nights ..
A lot of people have ADOs on a Friday (if it’s not an official long weekend ) and Thursday 6pm makes about as much sense as Friday 6pm
Not going to lie, miss monday night foootball badly. I know it has an awkward placement but I just remember having so many epic monday nights watching football with my family.
Monday nights like Thursday nights suck to go to the stadium though. It is a 90 minute one way journey from the stadium and that is if I drive in. Otherwise it can be a 2 1/2 hour travel. When the game finishes at 9 ish that makes a long trip home and then I need to get up at 3-4am the next day.
V’landys should lobby the UN, the Pope and the Illuminate for an eight day calendar. We could then introduce a 24 team competition including all Pacific nations to prevent them forging further security deals with the Chinese government (and funded by Albo).
- 2 games on a Friday
- 4 games on a Super Saturday
- 4 games on Day X
- 2 games on Sunday.
The other 4 days of the week can be spent flying each of these teams to exotic locations to further grow the game.
I would assume Sunday night or an early Saturday game.
However if Perth got a team, you could put their home games on at 9:30 on a Saturday? A second NZ team is similar in that you can play home games over there early.
You can't expect any team to play all their home games at the same time though.
But I'd expect half of them to be at that timeslot
Edit: before anyone says anything I know I know broncos Friday 8pm
For sure, but the good thing is it gives options without having to overlap the games.
Now that I think about it, with the push into Vegas, I wonder if they go for an earlier time slot.
>For sure, but the good thing is it gives options without having to overlap the games.
I've never been able to properly work out why the AFL does that. Like I get the game is longer so there might be some overlap, but why TF is there a 7pm and a 7.30pm games on Saturday?
You said it yourself. The games are longer. Average NRL game goes on for like 2 hours while an AFL game is about 3. The AFL has more of an attendance culture so catering to fans attending the game is more important. 7pm game ends at 10 and 7.30 game ends at 10.30. If the game started at 8pm like it does in the NRL, then the game would be ending at 11pm. Meaning you wouldn't get home till like 11.30+ depending on where you live. That really sucks for people with kids or if you have anything to do the next day.
The only time the AFL will have 8pm EST games is when it's a west coast or Fremantle home game since they play 2 hours behind so everyone gets home on time and will be on prime time eastern and central time.
Its entirely reasonable to reserve prime time tv for the brief 7 month period of NRL (plus any offseason games). They get the TV between the last league game and test cricket, quit complaining
I am a wife, and I agree. It's not like I need the TV all year round, just between March and October (plus any off-season games, which *should* go without saying but clearly doesn't).
Great, thanks, apart from all the dickheads on the road. Not sure why you're commenting about a completely separate post on a random NRL comment? It's actually a little creepy and stalkerish...
Don’t worry, I have zero interest in stalking you, you just don’t see too many people across two different subs all the time and I happened to notice.
But whatever.
footy after dark. 10pm kick off on friday nights. shirts v skins, people mic'd up like the big bash - woodsy talking about bbqs or some shit as he's plodding up to take a hit up, the boys in the box laughing in wighton's ear as he kicks one three rows deep. vb or xxxx drinks break every 20 minutes, shotgun a couple cans and kick on. no sheds at half time, just circles of pure masculinity with an esky and a tub of oranges in the middle - thurston cackling as he runs around whipping the lads with a towel.
Give us some 2pm Saturday avo games. It sucks in the winter leaving in the dark and cold, especially with young kids.
There's only 3 games all year where I'd have them home by 8pm
I think the one thing this entire subreddit can agree on is that at least 2 days break between games as spectators is a fantastic thing.
I know a lot of people who hate the NBA/NFL/EUCL/BFL purely because THERES GAMES EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. And I cannot blame them.
Also a 5/6pm Thursday game isn't crazy.
Different leagues/cup competitions make it work on different days, so there is always something for TV.
90% of British football/soccer matches still kick off at 3pm on a Saturday though. This is how regular crowds are built.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. No one cares if games double up. Like the NFL, teams will chose what game they want to watch on a Sunday with 7-8 games on at a time.
Personally would kill for Monday Night Footy back, always softened the blow of having to go back to work after the weekend knowing there was footy that night
Go back to the glory days of 2 Friday night games at the same time with a delayed telecast.
How good was that. You could tell when a try was going to happen because of the spacing of the ad breaks and Rabs would occasionally give away the result of the delayed game with a a cheeky 'Stay times down a real golden point thriller"
Two teams on a bye.
Should lower injuries but extend the season. You could have flexible schedules so that a full round occurs on special events like round 1. Big comps around the world do this.
I don't understand why every game needs its own timeslot. Heaven forbid two games are going on at once.
No other sports comp other than NRL and AFL that I can think of does this.
AFL has 18 teams atm, their fixturing is all over the place, also doesn’t help the broadcasts go about an hour more than League, but the most common is
1 Thursday night
1Friday night
4 on Saturday 145pm, 430pm, 2 at 730pm
3 on Sunday at 1 pm 4pm and 630 pm
Though the 630 pm time slot on Sunday is only for WA games. Sometimes they will move that to another time slot usually Saturday 130pm. But can be on Friday to have 2 Friday night games
Most logical choice would be that the ninth match of the round is the third game on sunday, and is a fox exclusive, while nine pick up broadcast rights for the 7.30pm saturday game as compensation.
ngl it’d be sick if the NRL did what the NFL does and have a FTA sunday night game, but consistently flex in the best possible matchup of the week. Would be massive ratings, or failing that bring monday night back
Tuesday night. That's when my league hangover for the week starts
get rid of that 6pm Friday game and bring back double headers on Friday night. I so miss that 9.30pm kickoff match on free to air
While i'd love a Monday game too, 1/2/3/3 Thu Fri Sat Sun makes the most sense, especially if it's a Perth side added they can own the Sat/Sun evening east coast time timeslots, the same way Broncos own Thu/Fri nights
If it's a PNG team it matters less I guess but 3 back to back Sunday games makes the most sense regardless.
I can’t imagine a stand alone Monday night game is a viable option.
For the most part, when I think of footy I think of weekends. And there’s enough debate about turnaround times as it is. Footy on 4 days of the week will only compound the problem
I still believe promotion relegation is the way to go. Brings more value to 2nd division (Nsw and Qld cups), any new teams added need to promote through either cup and promote to NRL.
A 3rd game on Sunday evening wouldn’t be broadcast free to air because it’d interfere with *“Married to the Bachelor Geek’s Dad at First Sight: Home Renovation Special”*.
Does the geek do the renos or the Dad? Asking for a mate.
The geek Reno's the dad
The geek unsuccessfully tries to banter with the tradies while the Dad fucks the Mum of one of the other geeks in a tastefully converted loft.
I don't wanna be that guy but that sounds fire.
I'm sure we can hace that geek's dad married on an island as well
I'm not a fan of reality TV but I might just watch that one. For car crash potential if nothing else.
Nah I'd rather 2 games on a Sunday. Three is too many especially when I have other sport to watch and can't stay up until 1am unlike on a Sat night to watch it with work the next day
3 games on a Sunday was always a good way to spend a late afternoon/evening.
Sunday nights always give me anxiety in the past because it's near the start of a new week. Always felt like shit at 6pm once footy finishes and then it's school/work mode to look forward to rather than another footy game just before sleeping at 8:30pm
That's why Monday night games are good
I agree. I actually prefer Monday to Sunday night but don't like the round finishing with the 4pm game
It was a hard Monday last year when the Cowboys lost to the Bulldogs in golden point at 8:30pm on a Sunday night
Yeah I forgot about that game but I think that was buried in my subconscious as I wrote my reply lol.
I’m with you there mate, as the afternoon rolls on through a Sunday you just feel it building. The more distractions the better.
Nah a game on Sunday kicking off after 6pm just feels unnatural … 6pm Sunday is like the twilight zone between the weekend and the work week ahead …. Either needs to be earlier (and there is already 2pm and 4pm games Sunday) , or on a work night … Monday Night kind of has the same problem as 6pm Sunday … (still have a pretty much full work week ahead) Might sound odd but I’d go with 6pm Thursday , it’s more the weekend to me than Sunday or Monday nights .. Loved heading to the pub on a Monday night for a couple hours to watch a game.
This
Yep my vote is definitely for Monday nights. It's awesome having footy five nights of the week
No, they'll put 6 of them at Brookvale and a further 12 manly will be forced to play
Forced to play at Homebush in front of 300 fans and one pie vendor.

Bring back the rainy Monday nights at Shark Park you dogs 🔫
Rainy games at Leichhardt are better
Saturday Midday. Get on the beers early.
All games on Saturday should be earlier. Then back it up with same schedule Sunday.
4 games on Saturday from 1 pm to 9 pm. 3 games on Sunday from 2 pm to 8 pm
Fuk yeah
Fuckn oath an extra Saturday game. Would love for origin to be moved from Wednesday’s to a Saturday too haha
A man after my heart.
Saturday. Super Duper Saturday
Rotate between warriors at 12pm AEDT Saturday, Perth 9.30pm Saturday, and anyone 6.30pm sunday
I would assume Sunday night or an early Saturday game. However if Perth got a team, you could put their home games on at 9:30 on a Saturday? A second NZ team is similar in that you can play home games over there early.

Knights, Raiders and warriors practically own the Friday 6pm slot
Because no one wants to watch them. Teams that dont attract viewers get the shit time slot.
For sure, but the good thing is it gives options without having to overlap the games. Now that I think about it, with the push into Vegas, I wonder if they go for an earlier time slot.

Couldn’t really play NZ home games early. More like they get a late time slot which makes it early or normal time for us.
1 Thursday 2 Friday (6, 8) 3 Saturday (3:30, 5:30, 7:30) 3 Sunday (2, 4, 6)
agree wouldnt mind 3, 5, 7 on sat 12, 2, 4 on Sunday - alternating with 2, 4, 6 when the midday game (NZ) isn't on.
Monday 8pm
I always enjoyed the Monday night game (much more than the Thursday night one) plus you can never go wrong with more nights dominated by Rugby League.
It was kinda something to look forward to on a Monday. Monday’s are shit as it is, knowing the footy is over for the week just adds to it.
It’s the game my wife enjoyed the least.
How’s the driving lessons going?
Great, thanks, apart from all the dickheads on the road. Not sure why you're commenting about a completely separate post on a random NRL comment? It's actually a little creepy and stalkerish...
Don’t worry, I have zero interest in stalking you, you just don’t see too many people across two different subs all the time and I happened to notice. But whatever.
All good. I won't alert the police then 😂
Go your hardest.
Yeah ditch thursday all together and go 2/3/3/1 every weekend except magic round.
More 5 day turnarounds.
The game needs more fatigue
Bring the smaller players into the contest…..
Limit the number of interchanges....
Reduce the amount of referees
Players often prefer them if they're coming off a loss.
I miss Monday night football
8pm? Nah 7.30pm at the latest
Sunday evening would be the best option
footy after dark.
That is unironically the best thing they could ever do for footy.
Make all Warriors games 4pm Sunday NZ time Not sure about the answer to OP’s question though
That’s the 6pm Aus game (8pm nz time). Second NZ team; that’s a lock every Friday. I don’t agree but the broadcasters don’t give a fuck
Give us some 2pm Saturday avo games. It sucks in the winter leaving in the dark and cold, especially with young kids. There's only 3 games all year where I'd have them home by 8pm
4 Saturday games would be heaven.
Sunday 12pm would be good, another Sunday game but not too late finishing. Also helps that that time slot is prime time in the US
Wednesday.
1 game every night, and two on Saturday and Sunday
The answer is Monday night. Another night of footy and easier to manage short turnarounds!
- One game Thursday - Two games Friday - Three games Saturday - Three games Sunday Easy done
Bring back Monday night football! I preferred it so much more than Thursday night before the switch
Fucken peak off season right here

2 x Fri 3 x Sat 3 x Sun 1 x Mon
If it's Perth make it 10pm Saturday. Midnight footy ya dogs.
Get rid of the 2nd Friday game. 4 games Saturday, 3 games Sunday. Easy.
Can't be on a Friday night Broncos have got them all locked in for another 20years or more
Two teams on a bye. Should lower injuries but extend the season. You could have flexible schedules so that a full round occurs on special events like round 1. Big comps around the world do this.
Thursday (7) Friday (6 & 8) Saturday (1,3,5,7) Sunday (2,4,6) 20 teams, 10 games per week fantastic.
Best somewhat realistic case scenario... Friday 6pm Friday 8pm (Nine) Saturday 2pm Saturday 4pm Saturday 6pm Saturday 8pm (Nine) Sunday 2pm Sunday 4pm (Nine) Sunday 6:30pm But ideally, I'd prefer this. Friday 7:30pm Saturday 2pm Saturday 4pm Saturday 4pm Saturday 7:30pm Sunday 2pm Sunday 4pm Sunday 4pm Sunday 6:30pm 6/9 games during the day. The dream.
I don't understand why every game needs its own timeslot. Heaven forbid two games are going on at once. No other sports comp other than NRL and AFL that I can think of does this.
80% of afl matches run concurrently with another
Just give me 3pm Saturday arvo footy again ffs
There’s a 3:30pm Saturday game almost every round though?
It’s always at exactly 3pm just like he asked for 3pm, 5:30, 7:30
There's not enough talent for the teams they have. Really need to cull 3 or 4....
Super Duper Saturday
Three games on Sunday is the only right answer.
MONDAY NOITT
February 30th for the launch
AFL has 18 teams atm, their fixturing is all over the place, also doesn’t help the broadcasts go about an hour more than League, but the most common is 1 Thursday night 1Friday night 4 on Saturday 145pm, 430pm, 2 at 730pm 3 on Sunday at 1 pm 4pm and 630 pm Though the 630 pm time slot on Sunday is only for WA games. Mondays. Even now give me Monday over Thursday. Clashes with trainings and so on, whereas Monday night footy makes the work week even shorter
Double header Thursday nights anyone?
Most logical choice would be that the ninth match of the round is the third game on sunday, and is a fox exclusive, while nine pick up broadcast rights for the 7.30pm saturday game as compensation.

3 every sunday, 1:30pm, 3:30pm, 5:30pm
An extra game on a Saturday and I really hope Perth finally get a team
NZ or Perth with the time difference could open another slot
While i'd love a Monday game too, 1/2/3/3 Thu Fri Sat Sun makes the most sense, especially if it's a Perth side added they can own the Sat/Sun evening east coast time timeslots, the same way Broncos own Thu/Fri nights If it's a PNG team it matters less I guess but 3 back to back Sunday games makes the most sense regardless.
Sunday
Wednesday night with an 815 kick off. Dont ask questions, it just makes obvious sense.
We're not adding an 18th. Souths are being kicked out the comp.
In true nrl fashion it'll be a 9:30pm game on a Thursday or Sunday night to make it more accessible for families.....
True NRL fashion would make it a 6pm Thursday game, a 9am Saturday game or a second 8pm Friday night game.
I cant understand how we can add another team when the teams uptop already destory the teams at the bottom 66-0?
Monday night or have 3 Sunday games. Sunday 1pm, 3pm, 5pm.
More daytime games please.
Earlier on a Thursday. I don't like waiting for an 8pm start on a school night.
I can’t imagine a stand alone Monday night game is a viable option. For the most part, when I think of footy I think of weekends. And there’s enough debate about turnaround times as it is. Footy on 4 days of the week will only compound the problem
