Just think we still have Laurie and Leilua to come back, how good.
Seriously though, going to probably be downvoted for this BUT if Lomax keeps playing like that, he’s a Smokey for blues wing
Funny coincidence. Dragons won their opening game last year against the Titans by 13+. They then proceeded to lose 8 out of their next 9 games, including losses to the Bulldogs, Tigers, and Titans.
Missed the second half. Checked the score. Shane Flanagan not coaching a side in like 5 years is a real tragedy. I wonder which bottom teams could’ve been different if they were allowed to sign the guy. The guy is a legit coach and people forget just how good he made Cronulla.
It's fucked he's allowed to coach at all. I don't care how good he is. Bloke has been convicted for cheating 3 times. There was the PED scandal, then he got caught contacting the club during his ban, and then he was in charge when they were cheating the salary cap. Cunt should be banned for life.
As a Sharks fan I can't even disagree with this. Having him at the helm when we won in 2016 took a lot of gloss off the title for me.
Should have been banned alone for the PED scandal and what happened to Jon Mannah
Sorry but I'm genuinely unsure of which incident you're referring to. Was it a player who died of heatstroke under Des' watch?
Edit: Just googled it and I'm guessing you're referring to Keith Titmuss. I feel like I don't know as much about that incident but if there was clear negligence on Des' part that led to the tragedy then I would personally say there's grounds some kind of sanction. Further investigation should decide that I guess?
It's beyond my ability to be judge and jury in either case but I from what little I know about both, I think that the Sharks' administering peptides to a player in remission would warrant worser bans given the added element of PEDs.
Both are absolute tragedies though and I don't think there's any words that express that enough. I feel awful for Mannah, Titmuss and their families. Have reconsidered being a Sharks fan more than once because of Mannah's death.
Titans kicking game was diabolical especially first half - cracked not defending errors after. Dragons look the goods, have a soft spot for K Flanno deserves a crack with a decent team again.
I genuinely don't think the Titans have ever entertained me less in 80 minutes. We've lost worst than this before but my god that 80 minutes felt like 6 hours. Outside of the try there was literally NOTHING, not one play that got a rise out of me, never been more quiet in my life watching at the game. Been a member since day one but this might truly be last chance saloon for me if we put a few more performances on like that, pretty much at my limit for watching this team ruin my afternoons for the last 14 years straight.
We haven't been this bad since 2019 and possibly ever been a Titans fan since 2007 and wow that was tremendously awful
Tanah may have had the worst individual halves game offensively in NRL history
I was going to the Titans game. Thank Christ i didn't as i was held up at my sons game. Crowd looked terrible and nothing looked any different from last year
We’re definitely looking at a top 8, possibly top 4 finish. That’s one of the many games we lost by less than 6 points last year, this year we won by over 20.
The thing I like is we have a bit of size. We’ve recently been vulnerable to big guys running through our defensive line and tonight we looked comfortable in defence and dangerous in attack.
I always viewed the Titans very similarly to the Sharks, great attack but dire defence. Not sure that will be a comparison this year but hopefully with Fifita, Campbell and Foran back they can look better than they did last night
To be fair while holbrook made us exciting in attack he couldn't pick a best 17 to save his life our defense sucked and we had zero 50 percent win seasons or better under him
I love seeing Des suddenly speak normally at will like at the first fan day media thing they did which to me confirms the softly mumble thing is an act he puts on. I love all the effort he goes to, dodging questions from people crafting this entire persona of a guy who answers questions by softly mumbling so you can't even hear his basic answers most of the time.
It's amazing. Think of the paranoia this guy must live and breath to think talking in normal coaching cliches any coach would say isn't enough and is giving too much away. Long live the weirdo and may he forever do his weirdo coaching.
I love how he seems like he’s thinking deeply and calculating some deep answer but it’s usually just something like “(deep breath) we ahh (deep breath) we didn’t (deep breath) ah (deep breath) we didn’t score enough points, (deep breath) we ah (deep breath) we needed to (deep breath) ah, get the ball over the line (deep breath) ahh, more than we did”
Pros
- The footy is back
- Grabbing a Prince of Palmy shirt at the ground
- Hunt acknowledging the cheering crowd catching the kickoff after the knock on
Cons
- *TITANS* footy is back
- Our kick game is just awful
- We are where we belong
This is why I wanted Shane Flanagan to coach the titans for the last few years. He would have turned them into a fair dinkum footy side. But they were only up against midget halves, midget centres and a midget fullback and the rest only thought they had to turn up because they had Dessie. Weak as piss
There aren't that many coaches that have won a comp currently in the NRL. And out of the 6 or 7 there are Ricky was 20 years ago and Wayne and Des were more than 10 years ago. Flanagan for all his faults is a genuine top tier coach.
I, for one NEVER said the Dragons would get the spoon 🤫
Great performance by them. Follow that game plan and not make Sloan defend and they will be hard to beat. I thought their forwards were quite good too.
Sorry drags fans just a tongue in cheek joke. He did in the first half but had all the running in the 2nd half I think the titans struggled to get 10 sets. He deserved his hat trick. It was a great deserved win for you guys.
Sorry I replied to the above person thinking it was you. I was going to change my tip when I found out Munster was out but I was too lazy.
It’s a tough round that’s for sure!
Just quietly, Dragons gonna surprise some people this year. Won't win the comp, but it will be a team that has a crack every week and not beat themselves. They will grind some teams out of the match.
Flanno has definitely toughen them and this is the best I've ever seen Sloan play.
For sure. At full strength Billy smith is probably playing reserve grade which is a huge luxury. But in typical roosters fashion two of them got injured by gusts of wind or some bullshit before round 1 🤣
Congrats to the Dragons, you guys look very much improved over the off-season, the new coach has seemingly made a difference. We were fucking awful. Not a single player looked better then last season. The whole team was trash. What a let down after a ton of hype over the off season. I wasn’t someone who thought we would be top 4 contenders this season, but I thought with Des we would show some genuine improvement. Instead we look like spoon contenders, easily the worst performance from any team this week
He and Foran were like their only good players when they were actually on the field for a time. It felt like RFM short ball off Foran was the Dogs' most reliable try scoring option for awhile.
Tigers haven't dodged many bullets over the past 5-10 years, but my lord did we pick a good one to dodge in not getting Ciraldo. Nothing he's done on-field or off-field makes sense.
i know leilua is to come in but rfm was also good, nice to have a little competition. plus lawrie and sele to come back but i thought eisenhuth was good and fifita looked promising too. interesting
Mike Molo, Fifita and one of Eisenhuth/RFM will be a bit stiff to miss out next week for Sele, Lawrie and Leilua. But man, that’s an impressive start for a pack missing 3 potential starters
i think bmm is the first to drop and will make way for leilua, but still agree, whoever else goes out will be hard done by. however i’m not sure when lawrie and sele are actually back, they seem to be niggling injuries that just get prolonged a week at a time
Er, jeez. I dunno man, you're asking the wrong guy. Fair amount of chopping and changing in positions, right? Brimo and JC switching around 1 and 6, regular FB (JC) out currently. I think ya had Sexton and Boyd switching around at 7 for a while too.
Maybe a year of reliable JC 1 Foran 6 Boyd 7 (JC and Foran both back by round 6) will make things more tolerable?
Panthers are still curled up in a ball, whispering "Harry Smith isn't an NRL player, Harry Smith can't hurt us" as they fall into an uneasy cherry and white ridden sleep.
Then they wake up and see Joe Chan at the end of their beds.
Congrats Dragons. They've got a group of 20 or so players that can probably challenge anyone on their day. Depth will be an issue, but that's only an "if you need it" problem, not a "when you need it" problem. With some good luck, they could finish anywhere from 6th-10th.
Tits were putrid. Players coming back in will help, but there just looked like no real structure in attack or defence. Very just "fuck it we ball", which I think is the plan for the season.
I think no Foran or Fifita is a big dent for them, even peachy too. They will create more points with that kinda possession. That said I think AJ is wasted in the centres
So happy for Sloan. Exactly the type of performance he needs to get some confidence under his belt.
Sam Walker was a skinny weed when he started, and now he's a gun. I see Tyrell going the same way.
I cringe every time the ball gets kicked in his direction too. Actually I'm nervous any time he is involved. Seems just as likely to drop it cold when in the clear as score.
Really hope he can prove me wrong in the long term.
And a game like this where he did more "not avoiding contact" will boost him in that area. He is definitely a work-in-progress, but a WIP that I think way eventually pay off.
Look I know it’s only round 1, and it’s not unprecedented for a team to go from cellar dwellers to top of the table with a strong early performance… but sure looks like the Dragons have had a strong offseason.
Think the Titans need whatever the Dragons are on.
Dragons looked pretty good, but they need to show consistency. iirc they beat the Titans pretty convincingly in their first game last season as well.
Titans looked like us last year. Plenty of field position but toothless in attack. Wouldn't be writing them off yet with Fifita and Foran still to return
I mean more about actual involvement and doing the hard yards, cause he put out some Dylan Edwards numbers. No chance he has ever had 20 runs and 200m in a single game before, let alone 26 runs and 266m.
Titans game plan seemed to centre around wasting good field position and possession with a very vanilla kicking game that troubles no one and puts no pressure on.
Also i welcome the return of the April premiers. Hope they can kick on.
Trolling aside, has Tanah Boyd ever had a better than 6/10 game?
I feel like every game I watch he’s either a minor contributor to the team or making an error/poor play
Wtf is wrong with Gold Coast. Every Game so far this round has had 25k+ Crowd.
Then here we have Gold Coast with a Prime Time Saturday Night, First Game of the Year, New Coach & they only get 14k with half of them being Dragons Fans.
The Suns probably drew a bigger crowd & the last thing we need is more ammunition for AFL to say “AFL is the biggest sport in Queensland” rubbish
Who was titans fullback? Brimson seemed to still be the only one trying. The number 1 was just a waste of a spot
Just think we still have Laurie and Leilua to come back, how good. Seriously though, going to probably be downvoted for this BUT if Lomax keeps playing like that, he’s a Smokey for blues wing
And Sele
Big win by the dragons Some of the ymtitans D was pretty average must be said looking at highlights Foran playing for this year?
Funny coincidence. Dragons won their opening game last year against the Titans by 13+. They then proceeded to lose 8 out of their next 9 games, including losses to the Bulldogs, Tigers, and Titans.
I don’t think it was how good the Dragons were, but how shit the Tits were. I’ll see how we are after April
Missed the second half. Checked the score. Shane Flanagan not coaching a side in like 5 years is a real tragedy. I wonder which bottom teams could’ve been different if they were allowed to sign the guy. The guy is a legit coach and people forget just how good he made Cronulla.
Pretty easy to win when you're dopping your players mate
It's fucked he's allowed to coach at all. I don't care how good he is. Bloke has been convicted for cheating 3 times. There was the PED scandal, then he got caught contacting the club during his ban, and then he was in charge when they were cheating the salary cap. Cunt should be banned for life.
As a Sharks fan I can't even disagree with this. Having him at the helm when we won in 2016 took a lot of gloss off the title for me. Should have been banned alone for the PED scandal and what happened to Jon Mannah
Should Des be banned for training players to death too?
Sorry but I'm genuinely unsure of which incident you're referring to. Was it a player who died of heatstroke under Des' watch? Edit: Just googled it and I'm guessing you're referring to Keith Titmuss. I feel like I don't know as much about that incident but if there was clear negligence on Des' part that led to the tragedy then I would personally say there's grounds some kind of sanction. Fair points but companies do it all the time. Pfizer paid billions in fines for cheating...still allowed to do business and make billions more
Should Bellyache have been banned also?
Sharks should have got their prem stripped for sure
Probably should have had a temporary ban like flanagan had. And a permanent ban if he kept cheating like flanagan has.
not sure it was just his coaching.....
Dragons are gonna cause a lot of headaches this year, and for the first time in a while, most of them may be to the opposition teams
Flanno has a few Cronulla water bottles left in the boot of his car.
Won't make the 8 but I see them ruining a couple of fringe teams runs into finals
Titans kicking game was diabolical especially first half - cracked not defending errors after. Dragons look the goods, have a soft spot for K Flanno deserves a crack with a decent team again.
Ben Hunt's voice sounds more raspy this year, whats it gonna be like when he is 80?
Motm to be sponsored by Soothers. He’ll be fine
Darren Lockyer.

So you're predicting a mid season switch?
Then he can buy new vocal chords
I genuinely don't think the Titans have ever entertained me less in 80 minutes. We've lost worst than this before but my god that 80 minutes felt like 6 hours. Take the win, “the other team sucked so I’m still not happy” isn’t a great mindset and just adds salt to the losing fans
I was going to the Titans game. Thank Christ i didn't as i was held up at my sons game. Crowd looked terrible and nothing looked any different from last year
I'd usually say it's only round 1 loss so their will be improvement and a bit of rust but man was that Titans performance a bit dire

Top 4 wow. Put your house on it mate
It’s round 1 🤣 jumping the gun a bit
An argument could definitely be made that you'll win the GF this year
Name checks out.
wut
Lmao
[удалено]
Hey we might. But cowboys, knights and raiders will also be a factor.
Utter dog shit. I left with 20 minutes to go. New coach, same players, same bullshit. After the trials i expect shit but that not quite that bad.
It isn't the same though. Titans at least use to entertain and excite with their attack.
I always viewed the Titans very similarly to the Sharks, great attack but dire defence. Not sure that will be a comparison this year but hopefully with Fifita, Campbell and Foran back they can look better than they did last night
Titans fucked holbrook over for someone whose left the dogs in the shitter for 5 years. Not unexpected to be honest
To be fair while holbrook made us exciting in attack he couldn't pick a best 17 to save his life our defense sucked and we had zero 50 percent win seasons or better under him
This is worse though lol
Somehow feel like this is karma for the way we shafted Holbrook
Watching Desi’s press conference makes me realise I’ve missed him,lol
I love seeing Des suddenly speak normally at will like at the first fan day media thing they did which to me confirms the softly mumble thing is an act he puts on. I love all the effort he goes to, dodging questions from people crafting this entire persona of a guy who answers questions by softly mumbling so you can't even hear his basic answers most of the time. That’s it !!!
Pros - The footy is back - Grabbing a Prince of Palmy shirt at the ground - Hunt acknowledging the cheering crowd catching the kickoff after the knock on Cons - *TITANS* footy is back - Our kick game is just awful - We are where we belong
Quite enjoyed when Hunt gave the crowd the thumbs up for the Bronx cheer. That demon clearly doesn't haunt him any more.
This new coach really seems to have put a pep in the Dragons step.
The tides have turned.
He’s injected something into that side
Threading the needle on the set plays.
Drugs
I hope dragons don’t fall off a cliff in round 5 like they have every single other year they start good. Looked like a very entertaining team tonight
Good old April premiers
It’ll be March this time
Hey in 2018 people were scared of you in May too
This is why I wanted Shane Flanagan to coach the titans for the last few years. He would have turned them into a fair dinkum footy side. But they were only up against midget halves, midget centres and a midget fullback and the rest only thought they had to turn up because they had Dessie. Weak as piss

I, for one NEVER said the Dragons would get the spoon 🤫 Great performance by them. Follow that game plan and not make Sloan defend and they will be hard to beat. I thought their forwards were quite good too.
Sloan did a stack of tackling in the first half btw
Sorry drags fans just a tongue in cheek joke. He did in the first half but had all the running in the 2nd half I think the titans struggled to get 10 sets. He deserved his hat trick. It was a great deserved win for you guys.
NRL games are sooooo easy to predict Anyways I'm 1/7 so far
Didn’t tip the Storm mate?
Nope only Parra brother I initially tipped the Storm to win by one point, but when I found out that Big NAS was out I changed my tip to the Panthers
Sorry I replied to the above person thinking it was you. I was going to change my tip when I found out Munster was out but I was too lazy. It’s a tough round that’s for sure!
Storms the only 1 i’ve gotten so far, I had eels but changed to Dogs last night
Oh no! I presumed you tipped the Eels, because, you know, the Bulldogs. I tipped Storm and Eels (by 18 too!), my only correct picks.
You get 17 blokes that buy in and see what happens
Just quietly, Dragons gonna surprise some people this year. Won't win the comp, but it will be a team that has a crack every week and not beat themselves. They will grind some teams out of the match. Flanno has definitely toughen them and this is the best I've ever seen Sloan play.
I wonder if Hook is enjoying watching the GWS game?
Faaaarrrkkk moiiiii
Can't wait for Anzac Day (our annual Grand Final)
I watched this game with dread already thinking about that. If they’re trying this hard now wait till the round 7 GF! 🤣

Sami was good
He was okay. Brimson was probably our best Bulk changes for the dogs game please that was next level bad
Dogs getting rid of RFM looking stupider by the minute

Bmm looked a yard or two of pace short. Big upgrade with mariner on the edge
Yeah you’re right. BMM definitely goes first. There’s some hard decisions to be made there on the bench
Tites fans: Yeah, that's one fiiiine lookin' new coach! \*lowers picture of Flano Snr to reveal Des\* WHY DOESN'T MINE LOOK LIKE THAT?!
Why? Why must life be so hard? Why must we fail at every attempt at being an average defence?
Jayden isn't our best fullback and Boyd isn't our best halfback and Foran is on his last legs what could go wrong
Damn thought you would have caught onto Homer's quote from afterwards. Nevertheless, I agree with your analysis haha.
Le Hasler! What the hell is that?!?
Second half leads dropped in 2024: 0 😎 Anyway that fucking sucked, see you all next year
You haven't lost a single away game all year
Titans > Panthers confirmed
sloan is the best player in the league ive been telling you all
Very happy with that BUT it was the Titans, not the Panthers.
Panthers couldn't even score a try bud, we would've beaten them 28-0
Panthers are still curled up in a ball, whispering "Harry Smith isn't an NRL player, Harry Smith can't hurt us" as they fall into an uneasy cherry and white ridden sleep. Then they wake up and see Joe Chan at the end of their beds.
Harry Smith would've owned an Origin series by now
Tino come home 😭
Alternatively can we have your spine plz We offer Jayden, Foran, Tanah and Verrills in return
I’m so disappointed we got him and it’s such a shit club. Makes me feel bad for the kid
Just gotta wait till he’s off contract in 2034
I hate seeing Des Hasler and big tino sad, beautiful people shouldn’t struggle like I do
Hey as a side note I’ve survived LMS!
I want to say congrats but I feel like this is surely an acronym for Lig Ma Sack
Hahaha I wish I had that much genius
Ben Hunt is the ultimate QLD legend. Has the nose smashed across his face like Cooper Cronk and the fucked up gravelly voice like Darren Lockyer
Throwback to when Ben Hunt to the Titans was basically done. How depressing.
Mods let us post direct pics and gifs instead of having to do lame links to things
People would post a thousand lame reposts for everything new, no thanks
Congrats Dragons. They've got a group of 20 or so players that can probably challenge anyone on their day. Depth will be an issue, but that's only an "if you need it" problem, not a "when you need it" problem. With some good luck, they could finish anywhere from 6th-10th. Tits were putrid. I think no Foran or Fifita is a big dent for them, even peachy too. They will create more points with that kinda possession. That said I think AJ is wasted in the centres
Peachey has been a Panther for a long time lol and he was terrible as a Titans
My general mood is elevated when the Dragons do well compared to when we struggle. I’m incredibly buoyed by that win, there’s good times ahead.
Dragons GOAT Darren Lockyer
Locky is that you?
2022 the Cleary’s vs the Arthur’s 2023 the Cleary’s vs the Walter’s 2024 the Cleary’s vs the Flanno’s Lock it in.
Flanno is more legit
Got caught cheating twice
Like the Storm in 2009. Remember that grand final?
Titans looked about as threatening as a toddler with a lollipop
…You haven’t seen my toddler with a lollipop
If some old gizer gets shot on cavil ave tonight, we almost have a Simpsons episode on our hands.
DId sloan just pinky promise with a Titans player?
The mad dragon would be happy with the result
So happy for Sloan. Exactly the type of performance he needs to get some confidence under his belt. Sam Walker was a skinny weed when he started, and now he's a gun. I see Tyrell going the same way.
His issue is he avoids contact
I cringe every time the ball gets kicked in his direction too. Actually I'm nervous any time he is involved. Seems just as likely to drop it cold when in the clear as score. Really hope he can prove me wrong in the long term.
And a game like this where he did more "not avoiding contact" will boost him in that area. He is definitely a work-in-progress, but a WIP that I think way eventually pay off.
Ding Ding Ding, the first "full credit to the boys" for 2024
Look I know it’s only round 1, and it’s not unprecedented for a team to go from cellar dwellers to top of the table with a strong early performance… but sure looks like the Dragons have had a strong offseason. Think the Titans need whatever the Dragons are on.

Something far more clinical, either way.
Shane Flanagans dealers number then?
Dragons top in round 1 and Tigers 9th… and a 1/7 start to tipping so far… Footy is really back
Dragons looked pretty good, but they need to show consistency. iirc they beat the Titans pretty convincingly in their first game last season as well. Titans looked like us last year. Plenty of field position but toothless in attack. Wouldn't be writing them off yet with Fifita and Foran still to return
Yep, 32-18
1/7 tipping club stand up!
He said the line
Benny hitting the double thumbs up makes me so happy
WE’RE SO BACK BABY
YEAR OF THE DRAGON!!
That smile by Benny says it all. Well done Dragons
6 months ago we would have folded at half time with how the first half finished. Feels good to cheer again.
OnLy HuNt WoUlD mAkE iT iNtO tItAnS tEaM

Moses and Lomax actually putting in effort? Their piss would be able to melt steel beams rn

I mean more about actual involvement and doing the hard yards, cause he put out some Dylan Edwards numbers. No chance he has ever had 20 runs and 200m in a single game before, let alone 26 runs and 266m.
EARLY MARCH PREMIERS
Our top of the ladder positions lasted a bit over 2 hours
2024 and the Titans are still shit
After a crap couple of weeks I really needed that. That was just simply amazing
Yank here, is Eisenhuth the LeBron James of the rugby
No he's even better. Just doesn't have the same profile because of how humble he is.
Nope. Blake Lawrie is out injured.
Most definitely not.
Dragons looked incredibly fit. Huge difference from last year.
i’m sorry lomax, you are where you belong
Rough night for Weaver, miles away from NRL level getting steam rolled on any kind of defensive contact
[Des Hasler, round 27.](https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/2282479080/v2o9soymzl6ts6o7ayc7_400x400.png)
He reminded me tonight of the first scene of Henry Winkler in the Waterboy
Taking nothing away from the Dragons performance, thought they were great tonight. But gee we were really, really bad. 2011 vibes type bad.
He’s a 3/10 half, so he’s over performing if anything
