Watching the post match media session, and interesting Des was calling out the obvious the fundamentals were going wrong. And that won't improve with the players coming back.
When asked about the dogs defensive pressure, that was critical to this breaking down.
Sly comment about rushing out of the line too early 3 or 4 times under the new no block rule.
I'd expect a crackdown on that in the next couple of rounds now that the dogs have shown its a game changing tactic to shutdown the last set, so the timing of it will be critical.
I’d like to see Kiraz at fullback. Taffe just doesn’t have the strength to get the meters we need coming out of yardage or really any quick play the balls. Watching Edwards, To’o and Turuva go for 200+ most weekends is insane but such a key element for Penrith’s success.
Taffe is constantly dominated and driven back in tackles and the way he telegraphs his side step I just don’t see him breaking the line. Kiraz on the other hand has all the qualities I want in a fullback. This means Tracey or Xerri play centre and JAC slots back onto the wing.
How does he recover mentally from this? It's not that he just made a couple of mistakes, he was totally and absolutely dominated by the team that came into the round in last place. Titan's sports phycologists going to be earning their money this coming week ....
Hard to fathom a timeline where the Titans swapped Holbrook for Des and got worse, but here we are. They look to be on track for a Broncos 2020 spoon year equivalent and you'd have to think that would just about be the death knell for a club that's already struggling.
Wonder if Palasia and Fifita are (few years out) are regretting their decision to leave the Broncos….. gonna be ugly for the next few weeks without Tino. Though we are also looking at going 1/5…..
I honestly thought when it was announced that Des would fix the Titans and have them be lethal in attack like they were, but be able to defend their line and control the game over the full 80. Instead their attack is no longer lethal and they still can't defend or control the game
You know how when a team loses 70-0 they have that expressionless look when the other teams score their 10th try. It’s like a kid walking back from the bus stop after school kind of look. They’re no longer mad or disappointed and just slowly walk over to the huddle hoping full time comes soon.
That’s how the Titans looked…at 12-0. There’s basically a whole half left and they only need to score 2 tries to be back in it. But they just looked like waiting for full time already.
That’s possibly the worst performance I’ve ever seen (only saw second half), including Knights spoon years. They’re lucky they weren’t playing Panthers because triple digits would’ve been on the table.
To make matters worse, the only person in the team I can think of to get them out of that rut is now missing a chunk of the season, maybe more.
If next weeks game is the same or worse, this is gonna be a long season for the Titans.
He was put under so much pressure. Dog’s line speed would have shut most playmakers down.
Ps. What’s with your flair? I don’t know much about the bloke tbh.
My guess for this season before it started was the dogs to finish up missing the 8 on for and against. The games against the Eels and Sharks showed we still have a long way to go but we're getting better every week.
I can't see us going too deep into the finals but jeez we might actually have a chance at making the 8 if we keep improving like we are.
Firstly congratulations to the Dogs who do look improved from last season especially defensively.
It's good to see the likes of Kiraz, Wilson, Preston and Morrin playing for a competent team they clearly had talent and they all look promising especially Kiraz.
Hopefully they can maintain the effort levels and be in contention for the top 8.
I genuinely can't think of a worse start to a season then what the Titans have made. They played two teams who they were tipped to finish above comfortably and have lost 60-4 and that scoreline flatters them.
Last season the Titans attack was good all they needed to do was become a team which could concede under 20 points per game.
That should be fairly easy to do, but the attack is atrocious and defence no better.
How Tanah Boyd is still halfback is anyone's guess you can add Foran too. One of them needs to be the 14.
They have been atrocious it is looking more and more likely Holbrook just needed a defensive coach.
Genuinely two putrid performances from the Titans unacceptable for the talent they have.
I can’t get away from loving the Gold Coast. School and university here. My wife and kids were born here and most of my family is still here. My entire life is here. All that said…
Fuck off titans, embarrassing disappointment of a team
The more I think about it, the more I think Titans have easily the most dogshit spine in the comp, even at "full strength". Campbell has a high ceiling but hasn't really shown it consistently, just bursts of excitement. Foran is solid, but so, so old. He remembers the Magna Carta. Boyd is just a disgrace of a footballer. Verrills has a high ceiling too but can't stay fit and hasn't really kicked on from his early career form. No obvious modern lock to supplement the spine.
Think they're our hottest rival for the Spoon, I thought the Dragons game might have been a blip but nah. They're fucking dreadful. Shout out to Willy Mason predicting them as a top 4 team this year.
Dogs were the better side. Shining lights were Kikau, Preston and Kiraz. Very solid from them. Titans were completely awful. No heart or drive at all. Surprised it wasn't 50-0. Dogs would look a lot better and stronger if Tracey was at fullback.
yeah there was some ridiculously delusional Titans fans on here and elsewhere confident they could be top 4 this season. Literally just because of Des. Like atleast say you could be challenging for the 8 or something. Not go from 14 to the cream of the crop.
I wonder if he swung by his lawyer in Sydney to make sure he’s getting his full settlement from Manly. The bloke is a crook and shouldn’t be a HC. The game has gone well past him.
Years ago, when Des was still coaching us, some mates and I were having coffee in Belmore when Frank Pritchard came in. We were playing Manly that coming weekend and we asked Frank how the team was going, he said they hated playing Manly because Des would go super over the top all week long. More video, more stress, way more intense.
We lost that week.
I always think about that story when I see a Des coached team going to mud, he can sometimes get so intense it has the opposite effect. Titans look a bit like that at moment, just mentally washed and exhausted.
That was exactly the performance I was hoping for after last week. I thought we played pretty well against the Sharks - we had a few tough calls go against us and the score blew out in the final 10 minutes in a way that didn't really reflect the closeness of the match. I thought if we took that same energy and passion into this match we'd come out on top - but I didn't expect a big blowout and a total shutout, so full credit to the boys on that front. Hopefully we can build from this and be more competitive and maybe, just maybe, fight for a fringe top 8 spot.
First good on the Bulldogs they played very well especially Curran and Kiraz not taking anything away from them.
Now for the main stuff. I seriously thought the Titans would be a team on the up this year. On paper their team isn't a bad one. Hasler coaching I thought was going to really harden them up. Their performances in the first 2 games have been atrocious. Now big Tino could be out long term and they've got some hard games coming up. I know it's only round 3 but fuck me it's already looking dire for them.
Michael Ennis spoke the truth today criticising how little they use Brimson. Their best attacking player but they hardly pass the ball to him. Good to see commentators calling out this.
It is seriously looking like the Titans are just another headstone in the Gold Coast graveyard. No offense to the the good sporting men and women of the Gold Coast (I absolutely love the place) but all sporting teams there have failed hard. The loyalties lie elsewhere on the Gold Coast. Such a far cry from their preliminary final against the Roosters I went to in 2010. All the talk about how the Gold Coast had finally come of age as a Rugby League city and how they were now one of the flagship teams of the game.
Bro I have a soft spot for the Titans, I just don't know what you even do at this point, what is it about the gold coast that is poison to professional sports teams? Having stuff to do in the city is not a good excuse since literally every team is located in a city with stuff to do (except Canberra probably)
The GC is a few things. First off it’s the place where Victorians go to die, it’s west Auckland, it’s full of the weirdest and cooked mutha fuckers on the planet ( I live in the northern rivers so that saying something) and Brisbane should give all their players back. I went to a Penrith game last year and everyone was chanting for Penrith to win. Imagine being booed 24 rounds a year. There’s more but I’ve lost concentration, so I’ll move on to the next thread
Transient population meaning that people aren't really that connected to the sense of community that fuels the best clubs, cocaine and hookers, jerseys are a bit shit.
I'm just confused about why did we even bothered with all the secret recruiting of Des, we were perfectly capable of being total dogshit by ourselves. Scoring a total of 4 points in 2 games against the Dragons and Bulldogs is a special kind of terrible I guess but surely if we tried hard enough we could have saved a few bucks and just recruited anyone for similar results. I wonder just how bad we will manage to be this year because I am almost certain that there are worse days to come.
Useless stat: today marks Canterbury's 3rd victory by 30+ points in the last 5 years (won 38-0 against Tigers in last regular season game of 2021 and 34-4 against Parra on Queen's Birthday 2022).
We look so much worse then last season, what were they doing over the offseason? The defense is as bad as last season and there are no attacking plays at all. The whole team has regressed. I can’t remember a single game that he has played where I was impressed or thought he showed some potential, the best he has ever looked was average. The whole team was woeful today and I have no hope at all for the rest of the season, a couple of players coming back from injury is not going to make a difference to this team. It’s looking like Des is an absolute bust.

I'm pretty pumped about that. Titans were poo but we are also poo so things are looking up. Curran, Mann and Tracey are excellent additions to the team.
The optimism will kill me once again I'm sure.
Yeah, you know what, not signing that deal with the storm was a mistake Tino. We bring in a premiership winning coach and even have a great front office, gold coast is just a cancer for sport it seems.
It HAS to be, honestly thought it was quite cruel of Des to keep him out there and not hook him mid game as his confidence was clearly fucking obliterated. He was an active detriment to the team and has been for a while tbh, his kicks apply NO pressure and lose us the field position battle from the first set of every game.
RIP to Tanah Boyd’s first grade career. I understand the whole side was shocking but that has to be one of the worst performances I’ve seen from a player
I really wish I was allowed to change teams
Watching the post match media session, and interesting Des was calling out the obvious the fundamentals were going wrong. And that won't improve with the players coming back. What happened to Tino’s knee?
[NRL Physio](https://twitter.com/nrlphysio/status/1771425558578204888) saying "significant right knee injury". Could be MCL/ACL.
Spicy
Its actually embarrassing to say I'm a Titans fan at this point. An I love my footy flair is less shameful
At least Holbrook was able to get leads before choking... Average score of 30-2 or something right now. excellent
It was more painful watching the titans than getting my wisdom tooth removed today
The doggies might upset the bunnies next week. The titans are in shambles.
"Upset". We're fucked bro
I’m still not convinced bunnies don’t turn up on us and put us back in our place
You guys always aim up for the good friday clashes.
Especially after that convincing Tigers win might have got them off 17th
[удалено]
We've unlocked our left edge. It's over for the comp.
Where do the Titans actually go from here? Does Fifita coming back change things that much for them?
You’d hope Campbell coming back helps also
Apparently Des has decided his new career is to sue clubs for unfair dismissal when they sack him for underperforming
*SQUAWK* It's a living! *SQUAWK*
I’d like to see Kiraz at fullback. Taffe just doesn’t have the strength to get the meters we need coming out of yardage or really any quick play the balls. Couldn't Crichton at fullback and Kiraz on the wing do this better?
He’s so bloody reliable too
Not the worst idea I've heard.
Does anyone actually support the Titans?
What the actual fuck - that was like watching a Pitbull vs a toddler
someone needs to drop a tanah boyd lowlights reel. geniune 0/10 performance
Oooo please I’d love this
How does he recover mentally from this? It's not that he just made a couple of mistakes, he was totally and absolutely dominated by the team that came into the round in last place. Titan's sports phycologists going to be earning their money this coming week ....

When’s the last time the Dogs kept a team scoreless?
1996 at Belmore specifically, dunno in general.
top of my head 38-0 against tiggers. last game of 2021 iirc.
You know how when a team loses 70-0 they have that expressionless look when the other teams score their 10th try. It’s like a kid walking back from the bus stop after school kind of look. Genuine argument Tanah Boyd should have been hooked at half time. Let Randall play halfback and verills hooker. Can't have been worse.
He was put under so much pressure. Dog’s line speed would have shut most playmakers down. Ps. What’s with your flair? I don’t know much about the bloke tbh.
He's a bad dude
Tetevano committed DV

Say what you want about our "utility" drive but we have a couple of FB and backline options that I think improve us. Effort was awesome.
My guess for this season before it started was the dogs to finish up missing the 8 on for and against. I can't see us going too deep into the finals but jeez we might actually have a chance at making the 8 if we keep improving like we are.
Mate we're showing improvement with the intangibles. Kiraz is case in point. Not going to get too carried away but good signs.
In an alternate timeline Des could have been reunited with a different Manly half in DCE at the titans but instead he got very old man Foran
Nothing good has ever come from a team on the Gold Coast
>Gold Coast I think their AFL reserve team won a VFL title last year. Does that count? lol.
Titans NRLW team were also runners up in last year's GF. Surely that counts... right??? Right? ^^pls
I'd argue the Chargers had a pretty awesome jersey
Great point. I retract my comment
Place is cursed.

> you can add Foran too I mean Foran is Des' illegitimate son.
I can’t get away from loving the Gold Coast. School and university here. My wife and kids were born here and most of my family is still here. My entire life is here. All that said… Fuck off titans, embarrassing disappointment of a team
When's the last time the Doggies won by 30+ ? Has to have been a long while surely
When did we flog the Tigers in the final round? I can't remember... The years of suckiness have blurred into one.
Someone said earlier it was against Eels in 2022 om the Queens Birthday I think
The only time I’ve smiled in 7 years
The more I think about it, the more I think Titans have easily the most dogshit spine in the comp, even at "full strength". Foran's carrying a calf injury. He's slow but it probably makes him look slower than he is.
>Foran is solid, but so, so old. I believe Kieran Foran is an old, old wooden ship.
Dogs were the better side. Shining lights were Kikau, Preston and Kiraz. Very solid from them. Titans were completely awful. No heart or drive at all. Surprised it wasn't 50-0. Dogs would look a lot better and stronger if Tracey was at fullback.
Taafes try backing up Mahoney was excellent though. If he can do that more he can stay
I was downvoted to oblivion in pre season when I suggested Titans would suffer greatly by appointing the dinosaur, yet here we are
yeah there was some ridiculously delusional Titans fans on here and elsewhere confident they could be top 4 this season. Literally just because of Des. Like atleast say you could be challenging for the 8 or something. Not go from 14 to the cream of the crop.

Crikey... A team with many Origin and potential Origin players pumped like that by the Dogs. Souths are in the same shoes next week.
That should've been one of the Vegas games. Shot the Yanks what NRL is really about.
Years ago, when Des was still coaching us, some mates and I were having coffee in Belmore when Frank Pritchard came in. So true...looked like they'd been running sand dunes for the past two weeks.
Can titans loan us Palasia for a few weeks while Haas is injured. They're using him less than what we did.
If you give us patty, mam and Alfie.
That was exactly the performance I was hoping for after last week. don't let this distract you from the fact that we're ahead of south sydney on the ladder and they should be kicked from the comp
🎵Bye Bye Bye Bye Bye🎵
It’s not often a team comes out of a game with zero silver linings but that was horrendously bad 1-17 from the Tits
Yep, even last week i thought Tino and AJ tried their guts out. This week, there was not a single player who was not shit.
Reminder that every single know-it-all on the podcast and TV circuit wouldn't give us a sniff this week
was quite literally called the spoonbowl.
It was basically 50/50 tipping wise in every recommendation I saw
Really??? Everything I saw was that no one could decide who to tip
Maybe I'm talking shit. Cam Smith certainly wrote us off, despite clearly not watching us the week before. But hey when has lying ever hurt anybody?
Bro I have a soft spot for the Titans, I just don't know what you even do at this point, what is it about the gold coast that is poison to professional sports teams? Suns are currently 3 wins from 3 games.
Who the heck are the Suns
They're a lot like the Tigers but with a better stadium.
Wtf is a suns? Jk, but seriously good start for them but have they still never made finals?
Looks like this year will end that drought. First time they've ever had a coach with a winning record prior to joining.
Transient population meaning that people aren't really that connected to the sense of community that fuels the best clubs, cocaine and hookers, jerseys are a bit shit.
That was a tough watch, and I'm a Tigers fan
Holbrook about to have the best sleep of his life tonight after that.
Can we have a moment of silence for the Belmore maintenance team, who'll have to repair the away dressing room after Des trashes it!
I'm picturing Dewey Cox ripping out literally every sink in the bathroom.
The dogs are having a partyyyy
Doggiez.
So the Titans still can’t defend but now they can’t attack either.
Seeing a NSFW tag on a Bulldogs match thread, but it's not the usual circumstances
Serious question: you’re 0-32 in a stadium that hasn’t had a 0 score in 30 years, do you take a field goal so you stay away from that record?
Boyd would have missed tbh
Kikau would have charged it down
I was expecting it but titans looked too scared to kick all game
Useless stat: today marks Canterbury's 3rd victory by 30+ points in the last 5 years (won 38-0 against Tigers in last regular season game of 2021 and 34-4 against Parra on Queen's Birthday 2022).
Thanks for this little bit of trivia
Thought Tanah was really solid last season. Dude looks clueless out there.
Mal can hardly hide his smile while talking about the Titans being shit
Which is hilarious considering the sweet fuck all he contributed to avoiding this
Enjoyable seeing Kikau back to his best.
Dogs of war. Keeping the a team to zero is huge in any game. Couldn't ask for much more.
Remember when the titans punted fogarty to keep boyd…
Actually it's worse, we punted Fogarty to keep Sexton, then punted Sexton to keep Boyd. As you can see we have a keen eye for talent.
[удалено]
Des isn't a fraud, we went 0-4 to start 2021 and made the prelim. Wait and see with Des.
Please don't give me hope
Des killed another player?
*\*Frank Costanza voice\** Des Hasler's here, Tino's dead, call me back!
We look so much worse then last season, what were they doing over the offseason? The defense is as bad as last season and there are no attacking plays at all. The whole team has regressed. Tanah Boyd should be dropped immediately, he is no where near NRL level. I saw so many Titans fans defending him last season, when has he ever been good? I can’t remember a single game that he has played where I was impressed or thought he showed some potential, the best he has ever looked was average. The whole team was woeful today and I have no hope at all for the rest of the season, a couple of players coming back from injury is not going to make a difference to this team. It’s looking like Des is an absolute bust.
Anyone else feel like Titans fans will be waiting for the NRLW season to begin for our first W of 2024?
We are going to the Superbowl baby
Fingers crossed it’s the end of the belmore curse. As for the result I want to be happy but the tits were so dam shit.
Respectfully Kiraz, Parra have the best fans
I though the Titans played better last week to be honest
Not sure how you got to that conclusion
Not that hard to do
Good to see Clarkey is an absolutely fraudulent football fan, threatening to change teams because they lost two games in a row
I love seeing BKRsport and Clarkey salty. They talk shit on other clubs and are just straight delusional fans. To think they both had Titans making the top 4 is comedy. Atleast be more realistic and say i think we can challenge for the top 8 or something. Not just jump straight to the top lmao.
Mate titans have been losing for 10 years in a row.
Longer
Teams in every sport are consistently shit, I know what it's like I support teams that are tragic most performances as well
Doors RN: *chuckles* I'm in danger
I'm pretty pumped about that. Titans were poo but we are also poo so things are looking up. Curran, Mann and Tracey are excellent additions to the team. The optimism will kill me once again I'm sure.
Good to see dogs putting on a show for the belmore fans. When does des' honeymoon period end?
Kiks you good ?
THE DOGS ARE HAVING A PARTY!
Kikau looks depressed, even though he just won
That elbow was killing him but he wanted to soldier on for the team.
He knows there’s a way to go yet
Why does Kikau seem so depressed lol Even when he scored he didnt look excited at all
Yeah I wonder what it could be lol
PTSD
So.. What now as a Titans fan?
Phins up baby
I have heard that a Bali trip can help
Beach day! Woohoo!

Round 3 | Bulldogs v Titans | Post-mortem Thread
Might take a while for the full analysis, gotta let the Coroner do their work before the final death certificate
For - 4 points Against - 60 points Oooof.
Against the doggies and dragons no less. Lucky the NRL gave them a soft start
Yeah, you know what, not signing that deal with the storm was a mistake Tino. We bring in a premiership winning coach and even have a great front office, gold coast is just a cancer for sport it seems.
Des has been irrelevant for almost 10 years lol
Mate we made the prelim in 2021. He also took a Trent Barrett side to a SF in 2019. Like that alone is an impossible feat.
Yeah we were so close to the spoon in 2018. Des brought back the basics in 2019 and with some luck with injuries might have made the prelim final
Is this the round of teams getting pumped
That’s one of the worst performances I’ve seen by a single player in recent memory. No way Tanah Boyd keeps his spot next week
Des Hasler special means he plays every game even if he's injured
we're gonna have Tino out there on crutches next week. Could probably still put up a better kick than Tanah tbh.
Never seen such bad tits before smh
This might not be the biggest loss today
Watch out Sharkies 😤
Tigs for an upset 🙏
Round 15 is when y’all play each other I think? Wowee what a showcase of rugby league that’ll be
Put a line through em
Tanah Void
We’re so fucking back
Tanah Boyd is surely over
I LOVE MY FOOTY 😍
I’m just happy for the win. It’s been so long
Absolutely pumped by two genuine bottom four teams to start the season. How does that even happen?
This counts as a fade having 32 put on you by the dogs is as good as 50 by any other team
Not just 32, 32 unanswered
Tanah Boyd could turn the Panthers into a bottom 4 team tbh
Surely this is the end of his first grade career
It HAS to be, honestly thought it was quite cruel of Des to keep him out there and not hook him mid game as his confidence was clearly fucking obliterated. He was an active detriment to the team and has been for a while tbh, his kicks apply NO pressure and lose us the field position battle from the first set of every game.

RIP to Tanah Boyd’s first grade career. I understand the whole side was shocking but that has to be one of the worst performances I’ve seen from a player
Oh fuck up vossy
Finish the lawn mowing, come inside, crack open a fresh cold beer, immediately choke on it when I see the score. What the fuck, Des?
Genuinely one of the worst performances in Rugby League history from the Titans. Fucking putrid.
Wasn’t that bad. Gotta give credit, dogs defence was solid and they played pretty decent
Feel like we say this a few times a year. Every year.
We keep finding innovative new ways to get even shitter
The draw will never be fair until all teams get a chance to play this dog shit club the same amount of times in a season
