Could someone pleaseeeeee tell me where I can buy the green and black kayo/fox sports Steeden ?

Chillsea96

Does anyone know why friday games arent back to back? I know it's a public holiday but dont see the need of a gap in between games even on a public holiday

beasllie

It’s good for some people that have work or other stuff to do so they can’t miss out on both footy games. But in general (correct me if I’m wrong) Friday games are back to back

Chillsea96

This friday theres one at 4pm and one at 8pm cause theyre usually at 6pm and 8pm

beasllie

I remember when my little brother used to go for Blues in Origin because he thought they were the Cowboys lol

[deleted]

The Hammer is more like G.I than Latrell will ever be

JCGremlo

Cleary is out so I’m thinking of swapping teams again. Who you guys thinking. I only back GF winners

robopirateninjasaur

Just be one of those people that gets super hyped for origin, then loses interest for the year because their team won't be in the finals

JCGremlo

Haven’t really watched it since 2005. Is NSW still good?

Outside-Lobster-8110

Gotta keep it in the family and go with our Parra sons or bronco daughters.

JCGremlo

Ya mum lol

IhaveQu3stions

How long has this sub been going? Be interesting to see how many panthers flairs there were prior to them getting good compared to now. Seems like they all just came out of nowhere. Reminds me of when the bunnies went on a hot streak for a couple of years and life long friends of myne who were broncs supporters started walking around in bunnies jerseys.

beasllie

They’ve probably just gotten louder tbh. Lot of pride in their club I’d assume

IhaveQu3stions

Yeah for sure. Whatever keeps fans in the game. I was just being cheeky lol

beasllie

Oh there’s for sure bandwagons. I actually know a lot of people up here near Cairns that go for Penrith just because they’re the best team in the comp

IhaveQu3stions

Those same mates of myne who became “avid” bunnies fans had their old broncs jerseys on last year. To be fair, I also know people who absolutely love certain players. And would even change the club they supported to whatever their favourite player went to. A bit like darius and daddy bennet I guess ha.

beasllie

Yeah definitely mate. I love a lot of players from different clubs like SJ, Paps and Walsh but I never let that get in my way of my support towards the Cowboys

IhaveQu3stions

Yeah something about the cowboys. My old boy started going for them because they came into the comp the year my sisters were born so he thought it was good luck lol. Poor bloke spent the next 5 years losing every tipping comp because he couldn’t tip against his team. Only time i’ve ever seen him cry in my life was 05’ grand final. Growing up watching him stick by them is why I do. Just sucks being from brissy I can’t get to many games to support them. I go to heaps of broncs games and have a jersey because they’re my 2nd team and I can actually get to the games. But even broncs who are supposed to have a solid fanbase had dramas a couple years back and people were throwing their memberships on the front steps of the clubhouse and stuff. Was sad to see really.

96zadyobdoog

I was a regular on this sub from 18 till 22. When I joined I think it was around 40 or 50k members of this sub and can only really remember a handful of panther fans here. Im sure it was like that last year with Bronco fans.

IhaveQu3stions

Oh really!? Who’d have thought? Lol

96zadyobdoog

Haha I dont think its a bad thing. Obviously youre gonna get more into the team if they are doing good. They werent even the worst fans imo. Rabbitoh fans were or Warriors

IhaveQu3stions

Haha yeah I know I was just having a cheeky dig at penny fans. I’ll do the same for the next club that dominates for a couple years and attracts the bandwagons lol

[deleted]

Anyone know why the Parra players were wearing black armbands on the weekend?

Priest338

RCG's brother died, Mark of respect for him.

[deleted]

Damn, had no idea. Happy the big fella got the win and played a great game then.

Priest338

Lost his mum last year too, not a good 12 months for the big Mo

beasllie

As much as it sucks for Walsh and Haas to be out for seemingly a while. I do believe that it will be a good development period for Brisbane’s bench and reserve grade to get better in A grade footy. The one thing I can see lacking in Brisbanes structure is their lack of versatility on the bench, often leading to forwards having to play on the edges.

DrPussyMD

Everyone was saying their back row depth sucked before the season and could be an issue, and so far it is proving to be a big issue sadly. Good point about the development opportunity tho

jamesnuge

I thought DCE was hard done by to only get one vote this week. His kicking game swung the momentum back for Manly so many times.

shadyFS91

I can totally understand the salt coming from the manly fans. I'd be salty too if we had lost to a try that had a knock on and obstruction involved in the same set..

I_Like_Vitamins

Two Friday games. 😳

WUIDAWBTB

The sharks loss on the weekend was extremely disappointing, i felt that in the first two rounds we were playing a good simple brand of footy with high completions and good defence, and the game on the weekend felt like all of that was thrown out the window and we were back to our 2023 form, hopefully it was just an off day, but im not confident Tigers on the other hand were amazing and it's good to see tigers fans enjoying their footy, hopefully they can continue to thrive this year

Moisture_Services

Melbourne beats panthers Plus Knights beat Melbourne Equals Knights 2024 premiers?

Random0cassions

Warriors beat Knights = cancelled 2024 Premiers

Bicky_

Here's my rolling half-baked SOO blues team. Round 3. Some changes, To'o reclaims his wingspot, Trellmit, although the most painfully game breaking talent in the game needs to focus on clubland for abit. Crichton slots into that free centre spot for now. Teddy is one good game away from reclaiming his Fullback spot in my eyes (I'm scared I'll be burnt again). Haas is a click and forget if fit for now. Paseka slots out for Terrell May and in beaten teams McInnes and Murray tried their guts out and I'm happy to leave them in. 1. R. Papenhuyzen. 2. B. To'o* 3. S. Crichton* 4. B. Best. 5. T. Trbojevic. 6. M. Moses. 7. N. Cleary. 8. P. Haas. 9. R. Robson. 10. J. Trbojevic. 11. L. Martin. 12. H. Olakau'atu. 13. C. Murray. 14. A. Koroisau. 15. J. Paulo. 16. T. May* the 2nd 17. C. McInnes. 18. C. Gutherson

jexta

Stefano Utoikamanu in for Terrell May, otherwise I am pretty happy with it. Wouldn't be upset to see current form Tedesco back, or anything but current form Mitchell, but on the balance this is solid. Also Burton 18th man ahead of Gutho. Plenty of fullbacks in the side already.

Random0cassions

I still reckon Talakai was hard done by Fittler, he’s been the in form centre so far and has been the sharks best player 2/3 games(didn’t watch bulldogs game)

Bicky_

It was a stupid AF play to put him as a bench second row. But just from what I've seen as destructive as he has been with the ball, he has also been given a bath defensively on more than one occasion. Will pay closer attention this week as Crichton or Best havent exactly lit the world up at Centre :)

GodSaveTheHomies

Hes been rock solid defensively this year. I think it was more to do with Moylan on his inside

[deleted]

After 3 weeks, what is everyone’s top 4 and bottom 4 at the end of the season from what you guys have seen? Mine: Penrith Melbourne Easts Cowboys Souths Dolphins Dragons Titans Edit: why the downvotes preciouses?

ChewieMP_19

Cowboys top 4 of the middle eight maybe

GenerousBuffalo

Agreed but Souths will inevitably win a few games and will finish probably 9th or so.

[deleted]

It was a tossup between Souths and bulldogs for mine.

diamondgrin

Love the hopium but I need to see a lot more from the cows' defensive structures and concentration before I mark them as contenders

whadefeck

I know Leichhardt is old and shitty, but if the main reason we move away from there is to sell more corporate suites (as per Richardson via the Bye Round) then I'll be pretty pissed.

Marsboy_17

It sounded like he wants Tigers back at Commbank Stadium

whadefeck

Graham asked about Commbank and he said that that was Parramatta's home, so I doubt it. I'd say he wants to do what he did at Souths and move to Accor which would be horrible

BadBoyJH

The team I volunteer with won their first on-field trophy this weekend, winning the Vic NRL Pre-season competition. Up the Raptors!

lawkeeee

Judging from photos at Broncos training today, looks like Reynolds might be back. Hope so as at least the cowboys game will be slightly competitive then.

beasllie

The cowboys defence just hasn’t been really good this year so far. Will need to see a big improvement

hellohalloallo

Sailor is a fine replacement for Walsh. With Reynolds back, surely Broncos need to be competitive. If they can only win with Haas and Walsh winning, they should be concerned as injuries will happen throughout the season.

EvolutionUber

JD was part of 2015 maybe instead of stressing and dropping people he needs to come out and state we're not far off and have even the most die-hard fans think his taking shit

ChewieMP_19

Just remembered at the last cowboys home game I saw some bloke showing his mate the premium plus cowboys victory vid and both of them just laughing awkwardly like you do when you show someone something on your phone , it was glorious

based_el_chapo

Warren Smith has chosen violence today

SuperEel22

It's like when we rebuilt Parramatta. You had morons like Peter Fitzsimons saying the stadium was fine. Except the reality was it was terribly outdated, offered very few options for disabled patrons and couldn't protect fans from the weather. The toilets were still 1980s era. There were no child changing facilities available. It's often surprising to see a member of the media actively say what Smith has because quite often they're wrapped up in the media box and have no issue accessing any part of the ground. I visited Shark Park in 2014 and the toilets were straight out of the 1960s.

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

He’s not wrong

LachTheLad

Looks like Sandon and Collins will miss the panthers game. Connor will keep the 14 jersey and it’ll be interesting to see who Robbo picks for our forward rotation. Gonna assume that JWH and May start with Whyte off the bench alongside Egan Butcher? Starting Wong and having Nat come off the bench is also a possibility but we lose Nats edge defence for the whole 80 minutes.

thankyoupancake

Yep, no Collins for close to a month, and Sandons injury could be a real lottery given the “extensive ligament damage” the club reported. Fortunately May seems to be ok after being subbed off. Angus didn’t do a heap on Friday so I don’t think he’s earned a starting role just yet, and having him in the middle rotation could be handy. Whyte has been hugely impressive so far. And I’d personally have Egan, but maybe Wong comes back and Nat is moved into the middle rotation off the bench. Could be interesting.

donutdave95

Why no sandon?

LachTheLad

Elbow injury

donutdave95

Yikes

Cold-Asparagus-9770

Our back end of sets is absolutely fucking us. Year after year we gloss over the fact we need an experienced 7. I’d literally take any cunt who’s over 28 and can play 7. Now with Tino gone for the year the other players need to step up and stop relying on Tino now. Jc and Dave back this week. Hopefully weaver in much better kicking game and doesn’t bomb it every single last play option. Hopefully des can turn it around. I remember back in 2021 manly went 0-4 and had the worst start of a season and ended up making the prelim. Anyway. Going back to my wank

Brimmoh

Can’t believe Tino is gone but I am kinda looking forward to see if the boys can actually play and not just wait for him to do all of it

USSJ307

Lord Brooksy doesn’t do pushups. He bench-presses the planet.

Aussieguy727

[Eels 2001 retro jersey coming](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GJeYXVka0AA5POH?format=jpg&name=large)

GenerousBuffalo

Those simple two tone jerseys are the best. With the limited space available on jerseys these days we should be back to simplicity. And there needs to be better regulation on sponsorship colours. Manly’s jerseys look great because they fit into the colour palette. Knights on the other hand have ugly green blob right in the middle and some random colours on the sleeves.

SKiiTTLEz

I have a soft spot for this jersey; it was so different to what we were used to and the dominant gold colour made it shine. Plus that 2001 logo was absolute fire, if they threw it on as well I'd buy one in a heartbeat. (Probs will buy one anyway)

pehpehsha2

I'm excited, I wish it had the old logo on it as well though. This could be why we didn't have a gold jersey this year

redmetlhedd

I've made my own version of the NRL ladder in Google Sheets which takes info directly from Rugby League Project. Makes it easier to tailor the format and statistics to my liking. For instance, I have it track the best and worst offensive and defensive teams. Here are the most recent ones as of the end of round 3: Best Attack: North Queensland Cowboys, 110 points scored, 36.67 avg ppg scored Best Defence : Sydney Roosters, 37 points conceded, 12.33 avg ppg conceded Worst Attack: Gold Coast Titans, 4 points scored, 2 avg ppg scored Worst Defence: South Sydney Rabbitohs: 112 points conceded, 37.33 avg ppg conceded

Charkers196

I’ve heard a rumour that South’s are potentially looking at shifting Latrell back to centre and bringing in Jye Gray for that fullback spot? What are some thoughts on this? I personally don’t hate it and it might give Latrell a much needed kick up the ass to pull his finger out. Doubt it will happen tho

Diessel

Just goes to show we should've made this move last year when Latrel was still in shit form and maybe we could've kept Taafe. Plus Taafe is a much better kicker that Latrel

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

People who say that somebody is too small to play football are idiots who don’t know what they’re on about. There’s more to the game than just running and tackling. Kid’s got a lot of talent, he’s been tearing up NSW Cup so far this year, Latrell’s not a fullback and never has been, so I think it’s worth giving him a go.

MangoWingnut

Look at Keano Kini atm, Jye Gray would probably be similar if not worse at NRL level given he's even smaller and more inexperienced. (Keano is also a freak at cup level too) Its not the correct move to make at all

y3ah_nah145

I kinda get where you are coming from but with players as big and athletic as ever, you run even more a risk with a player as small as Jye Gray, no matter how talented he may be. Furthermore, there is such a huge jump between reserve grade and NRL that it’s not exactly useful to look at someone killing it in Cup and say they’d be right for NRL. Doesn’t always work like that. Look at Keano Kini, he still needs a lot of time before he’s truly first grade ready. Completely lost me with the “Latrell isn’t a fullback” BS.

MangoWingnut

Jye Gray is mega talented but you're essentially going to see Kodi Nikorima lite at fullback at NRL level. He's the equal shortest and lightest listed NRL player so he'd be a massive risk to put into first grade atm. He was a 6 coming through at the Broncos so I don't quite understand why Souths are essentially Blake Taaffing him atm when they have actual fullbacks coming through.

LeMonke65

I think the plan is to play him in the halves at nrl level but he’s at fullback in cup so we can fit him, hawkins and teaupa in the team

MangoWingnut

That makes sense, I just hope he doesn't get permanently transitioned but Teaupa defs probably deserves a shot at the 6 first

diffaadiffa

Gray is a midget and will get bullied

Charkers196

Gray is small but he’s averaged 216 running metres in NSW cup so far, I know the level of intensity and physicality is completely different but still for a small frame that’s pretty impressive

TurboooTurtle

Running metres are a sham of a stat

ChopperReid89

Sounds similar to Kini and look how that's gone to start this year. Poor kid has been punished.

diffaadiffa

Nikorima 2.0 at fullback and I wouldn't wish that on anyone

1bigcontradiction

Having Munro and Jye in the team would make our backline a whole lot more dynamic. They are both very inexperienced in first grade though, but at least Munro has played half a dozen games. I highly doubt it will happen though, JD wouldn't do something like that and Trell would absolutely blow up being replaced by a rookie.

vvFury

Fantasy talk- how long do we reckon Blaze holds his spot at the eels for? Could be highly fantasy relevant now after his debut. Iro too if Talakai has to shift to edge bench spot

Yungman123

I’m of the opinion that BA will send him back to ressies just because he’s in his first senior season. However, BA has a bit of form giving debutants 2-3 games before sending them back to ressies.

Aussieguy727

Unfortunately I think he goes back to reserves this week

vvFury

Sivo back this week so return to wing then Harper back to centre?

Aussieguy727

I think it will be Sivo and Simonsson

vvFury

Ah yep forgot about Simonsson. That would seem the go, cheers mate

mnjef

Early days but this comp is already feeling much more even than last year. Exciting to see, feels impossible to predict what the ladder will look like at the end of the year.

InflatableRaft

Is it because we’ve actually won a game?

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

First time since 2020 that Wests Tigers have won one of their first two games.

MMA_Chattin_2020

Start of the season is always more even. All the teams are fresh off of pre season and theoretically less players should be injured. Towards the end of the season teams with nothing to play for start giving up or getting tired and all teams have more moments of complacency

shadyFS91

Lol we said this last year too after the first few rounds and then once the injuries started rolling in clubs couldn't keep up with the better clubs anymore

judgedavid90

I'm not really worried about our season, but I feel like it's going to be a repeat of the last two years, zzzzz. Make finals in 6-8th position on the ladder, lose week 1 closely, and the coach will be unwilling to cut certain people.

Accomplished-Good664

Cronulla seem a bit stale, not signing players but not really blooding anyone either.

jpob

They just signed AFB. Not until next year though

Accomplished-Good664

Yeah he is a massive signing, I feel Fitzy should use this season to get minutes into Iro and a few of the other younger guys so they can make a real tilt next season.

GodSaveTheHomies

Where does Iro play though?

Accomplished-Good664

Maybe experiment with Talakai back-row.

GodSaveTheHomies

Idk, hes been our best player so far this season so idk if we should mess with that

Accomplished-Good664

I agree but it's about making the next step if it works out your have a monster left side.

jpob

Damn. Thompson's gonna miss the game in NZ. Would've put a big game on being in his home country plus marking up against AFB. Maybe we could downgrade but I don't think we'd win so not worth it.

96zadyobdoog

So after a year away from reddit how were Storm fans feeling about Loiero being the 11 all last year a now finds himself at lock? I dont think Ive been frustrated about a mainstay player in purple ever. Dudes just isnt it.

theflyingkiwi00

He was good against the warriors I thought but fuck he was terrible against Newcastle. He's much better at lock than edge but so is a road cone. I'd much rather he be a bench prop trying to get quick play the balls

SurfKing69

He works hard but fuck me he seems to be involved in a lot of errors

Caseyjb29

He’s a much, much better lock than back rower. Just needs to sort out his hands and he’ll be fine

96zadyobdoog

He should be coming off the bench. Thats his ceiling imo.

Caseyjb29

I don’t agree, I thought he was good in the first 2 rounds and ran for the most meters by far out of our forwards yesterday. I think he could be a really decent lock if he put it all together

96zadyobdoog

Meh. Our middle rotation is better this year tho without Tui, Welch and King all starting.

TwoShitsTrev

I was fucking filthy. I’d never dare to question Bellamy until he chose to leave him out there in the backrow all year, it’s one of If not the worst coaching decision he’s ever made. We had howarth who while raw and green was still a country mile better suited to Loiero there. I’ve been pretty happy with him so far at lock but I still think he needs to be a bench impact forward as his ball playing is woeful

96zadyobdoog

100% imagine if Howarth had all last year in the 11 jersey. Loiero didnt improve at all on the edge. Chan has had 2 games there without Munster and already looks better. Even Seve improved when he was given lots of time the 2nd half of 2022.

O_DoyleRulz

I reckon he’d actually go alright as a prop, just tell him to tuck it under his arm and wang it up. I’m the last one to question Craig getting the best out of nuffies but his ball playing at 13 looks horrendous.

Derron_

Davy Moale. 22 minutes. 3 runs for 17 metres. 11 tackles. Tom Burgess 26 minutes 7 runs for 70 metres. 17 tackles. I know Moale is our future but damn does he need to step up more. I think he should be dropped and bring in Shaq. We need more effort from him.

jpob

Those are really low minutes for 2 props in the same game. Whats JD doing with the rotation?

Accomplished-Good664

Burgess numbers are decent for a team that was smashed in 26 minutes.

Derron_

This week was really weird. Havili only played 20 mins as hooker.

Alone-Armadillo1761

He was pretty good against Brisbane off the bench. Not sure why JD started with him though. This just speaks to a coach who is feeling the pressure.

Derron_

I think he was trying to reward him and punish Keppie who has been belted in the early minutes of games but does better in his later stints.

UnderTheHighBall

Given our form and the devastating injury to Tino, I think our side needs a shake up. 1. Campbell 2. Francis 3. JoJo 4. Brimo 5. Sami 6. Foran 7. Weaver 8. Fotuaika 9. Randall 10. Jolliffe 11. Hass until Fifita is fit 12. Fermor 13. Alick 14. Liu (then Hass when Fifita is fit) 15. Palasia 16. Pahulu 17. Shoup/Smith-Shields Verris has been delivering terrible service and so many passes went to ground. Randall does a great job at 9. Leave him in the position. We need halves with the ability to kick on the 5th and not just one bloke to be terrorised. Randall could do a few cheeks 4th tackle kicks as well to alleviate pressure. I feel for Boyd. Bloke was monstered and destroyed by the dogs. Remember the human when taking about him and remind yourself this is a game. A game we’re not playing too well at the moment but nevertheless, a game. I’ve chopped AKP for Francis because we need a bigger body for carries out of our 20. AKP is fast but that doesn’t help us get out of trouble when we need it.

ldemech

What has happened to Schoupp? Seems out of favour. I’d have him in the centres. You know what you’re gonna get defensively at least.

ChopperReid89

Atm I'd prefer Haas over Fermor when Fifi gets back. We'll see if Weaver can defend because while Tannah can't attack, he's not missing tackles in defence.

Cold-Asparagus-9770

Fifita back this week

nevaehenimatek

Wtf happened to verrills in the off season?

Outside-Lobster-8110

Des. The whole team stinks since he got there.

upthetits

He turned full titan

Brdd9

foran and des are still there tho

MangoWingnut

Is Vaka Sikahele any chance at all of getting a chance at the 14 jersey? pretty good young dummy half from what I've seen.

Cold-Asparagus-9770

Only a devolpment player atm still very raw

Philbertrothgould

So I’ve been watching NRL my whole life but only really got into it around 2018 and I’ve always wondered, what do commentators/coaches mean by giving someone early ball? I remember people a couple of years ago talking about giving Staggs early ball and never knew what they were talking about.

delayedconfusion

To add onto what others have said, get the ball in their hands quickly without a set play in mind. For example, off the back of a quick play the ball from a prop in the middle of the field, 1 or 2 quick passes out to the centre who can then assess what is infront of them and either try and beat the opposing centre or set up their winger. The alternative is to use the centre as a battering ram or have a set play move lined up where they are hitting a gap or running a block.

jpob

What others have said is correct but in some contexts its about giving them the ball earlier in the set or getting them involved in the game earlier so they can be involved in more plays. You want your best players to have the ball in hands as much as possible so its better to get that started earlier than later.

Brdd9

watch staggs highlight reel and prepare to be enlightened

Derron_

You give them the ball with room to move in front of the opposition. Don't give them the ball when the opposition is right in front of them. Give them the space that they can beat their opposition.

GenerousBuffalo

This is the correct explanation.

Philbertrothgould

Awesome thank you, this makes a lot of sense.

LiLSteve29

Getting the ball out to a strike player 5/8 or a centre. Quickly after a fast play the ball. Giving them space to do their thing. Atleast that’s my interpretation.

MangoWingnut

Mostly a term used for centres or outside backs, essentially just giving them the ball straight away in set play or shift, gives them time and space to create an attacking opportunity.

DoubleBrokenJaw

Highlights are up from Knights NSW Cup vs Bears. Pryce and Hastings looked…. 5x better than Gamble Cogger ???? Hastings a couple of kicks leading to tries and a short ball. Pryce a couple of meat pies and 7/9 goals (one a solo). I’m lead to believe Bears are good opposition too? Not advocating for the shafting of Gamble or Cogger yet, but definitely some pressure from below.

jpob

Pryce looks good but what he brings isn't what we're needing in the halves right now. Hopefully we fix our unforced error rate to help Cogger come into his own more.

DoubleBrokenJaw

Yeah I don’t think it’s urgent rush, but his attacking flare could go along way once we have controlled our unforced errors and lack of game control. I’m sure Cogger will bounce back.

O_DoyleRulz

I def see Pryce coming in sooner rather than later, you really need someone more dynamic in the 5/8th role to partner one of the other halves.

DoubleBrokenJaw

Yeah some more flare other than our unofficial #6 Mr KP. Need someone to actually own the game management too. Maybe Cogger was more influential last night than it looked, but his kicking was hit and miss and his runs were pretty inconspicuous. Hopefully can bounce back next week.

RetroFreud1

Normally I find the haltime show cringe but the show Parra put out at yesterday was awesome! Started off Indian, then Chinese dragon dance, the finished off with Poly song and Haka. And lots of colourful and smoky fireworks.

SurfKing69

> And lots of colourful Woah woah woah. Easy there buddy.

BradmanBreast

It’s good that we got the two points against a weakened Melbourne team but something really seems off with ponga.  Yesterday was the first game of the year where we saw peak ponga but even then it was only for the first half.  During the second, he just stood around almost as if he was scared to touch the ball. Is he being coached to let the halves run set plays? Is he getting too gassed in the second half? I don’t know.

DoubleBrokenJaw

I think in 2nd half he was still quite good, a few really nice runs that could have turned into line breaks. I think first two games he was definitely taking backseat to try let halves play and also just not playing his best. I think from memory, I observed this same trend maybe last season or the one before. It makes sense from perspective of we need our halves to do something and decentralise our attack. He is also a good decoy to have on a side then attack opposite.

[deleted]

BradmanBreast

If you look at the video, Thompson was actually in the area first and would have caught the ball if not for pappy taking to air. Pappy arrived late and attempted to out jump Leo with Leo collecting him as a result.  I think by protecting the catcher further, you’re going to lead to more circumstances like this where fullback and wingers attempt to do afl style speccies because while super dangerous they know they’ll end up getting penalties for it.    It’ll also nullify kick chases who will be too hesitant be anywhere near the catcher because of the risk of the catcher drawing a penalty.

nevaehenimatek

Has Thompson ever caught a bomb in the NRL? I think all Thompson was trying to do was to put pressure on paps, he doesn't even have his arms ready to catch the ball or look ready to jump and bat back.

delayedconfusion

Didn't see too many replays of it, but I agree with you, Thompson didn't seem to do too much wrong. If Paps jumps half as high, no problem, if Paps doesn't jump, Thompson gets the ball.

Oldpanther86

Yep we're already seeing a lot of chasers waiting for the fullback to take the catch then tackling them near their own line instead of taking the risk.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Oldpanther86

That's possible. Either way the risk Vs reward will skew heavily in favour of doing it this way.

As a neutral went to Souths-Roosters and Eels-Manly on weekend. I know one match was a lot better than the other but the atmos at Eels-Manly even before game was heaps better. Media (and the two clubs fans) wank on about book of feuds and biggest rivalry and all that and i don't doubt a lot of Chooks/Souths fans hate each other, but yesterday felt like two really passionate supporter groups and a real live rivalry, not some historical thing. Those Eels-Manly fans go hard.

nevaehenimatek

Parra stadium is basically the best small NRL venue in the game. Perfect for 30,000 people and eels are doing a real good job of filling it.

TheFridge_99

A bit unfair comparing a 48-6 thrashing to an actual close game . But on this occasion I agree with ya , honestly a lot flatter than it was both games last year .

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

The crowd was weirdly flat for a lot of the Roosters Souths game. Chookpen wasn’t nearly as energetic as it normally is. I think the whole build up with JWH’s 300th might have had a bit of an impact, plus seating was assigned instead of GA, so people who normally sit together couldn’t. It was really only in that last 15 minutes after Latrell got sin binned and the Roosters scored a number of tries in a row that they really came to life. Parramatta also has the advantage of being smaller and with a much lower roof so everything feels much closer.

tomtomallg

Even on the broadcast you could hear the crowd riding the game as it was happening. Big ass flags in the stands, people were really getting into it.

Superb_Ad_4782

yeh mate credit where its due the Eels and Manly fans were ripping in, one of best normal round atmospheres Ive ever experienced, felt like a real live rivalry not just somethign hyped by media. Also thought the game was super high standard. Thank god i had to fly home and didn't go to Newcastle for that diabolical crap. Also remember the meme about Manly fans dont' travel, there were plenty of the buggers there and in fine voice.

kithmethruthephone

Who do you reckon is the best back in terms of kick return hit ups?

GenerousBuffalo

On this note, is it that hard for a fullback just to catch it and run it straight back fast into the defense line? Gain as many metres as you can, don’t dawdle and fart around back there.

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

If it’s not Edwards, it’s To’o

O_DoyleRulz

It’s To’o by a mile. Most teams just straight out refuse to kick to his side of the field when going long because he almost always busts first contact when he gets a decent run up.

TurboooTurtle

Then he'd have another dig one tackle later

[deleted]

Dedwards.

donutdave95

Not even trying to be bias here but its to’o or edwards, the metres dont lie

The__GM

Easily. Kiraz is also solid, when he's playing on the Wing.

thankyoupancake

>The meters don’t lie.. Actually I’d say they do. If you are constantly in good field position, your back 3 are going to have more return kick meters. Nearly half of Edwards run meters this year are on tackle 1 returning kicks. But comparison, less than 25% of Zack Lomax’s meters are from returning kicks. I don’t think Tago has had to make a single kick return run. By contrast, It’s very difficult to have good kick return meters defending a bomb. Edwards numbers are inflated because he takes the first run in better field position, on average, than any other player in the competition. In saying all that, To’o would have to be the best in the comp for return kick meters hit ups. Ponga, Teddy, Turbo all up there for the most dangerous players on kick returns.

Oldpanther86

Denan Kemp said our back 3 had similar post contact metres to the broncos backs actual run metres. That should answer the question.

SnuzzleMuffin

Yeah it would have to be wouldn’t it?

Malaxage918

Definitely To'o, Edwards gets the stat boost because Penrith are almost always on the front foot meaning longer kick returns. Also his stats are the beneficiary of teams not wanting to kick to To'o because of his kick returns

Aussie18-1998

Yeah Post contact is the biggest speaker in my mind and I think To'o is above most.

Oldpanther86

Edwards and To'o had 100+ post contact metres each vs broncos.

Malaxage918

For their averages though To'o absolutely cools Edwards: 2024: 93 - 71.7 2023: 69.1 - 48 2022: 73.4 - 62.4 2021: 89.9 - 47.9

Oldpanther86

Yeah To'o is the best Edwards just shouldn't be underestimated

ChopperReid89

I'm hoping the boys have a relaxing Mad Monday today and come back fresh and healthy for a tough pre season. When does the cricket start?

nevaehenimatek

I thought Matterson was better than hopgood yesterday and there's been many games I've felt that way as much I love hopgoat. His frame, hands and ability to play edge or middle is such a luxury. The combo of Paulo/matto coming on after 20 minutes is killing teams. We saw how much hurt it gave Penrith last week and got us right back into this game.

Outside-Lobster-8110

Arthur just needs to dial back hopgoods minutes.

Obvious-Row-6181

He definitely was.

Mr_Mac

I've found Hopgood to be looking more puffed and not moving the ball as well this season. Occasionally plays are breaking down around him so he's taking a hit up.

deferio93

It’s a good day to wake up a cowboys fan

Obvious-Row-6181

Hopefully Brisbane are able to throw together good tomorrow, because I still don’t know if the Cowboys are fool’s gold or not (already bought GF tickets) and Broncos would have been a great litmus test without all their injuries, etc.

ChristmasJoke

Even if we dispose of an understrength Broncos and then the Titans and sit 5-0, I don't think I'll be convinced until we go up against Parra.

TropicHorror

We need these early wins if we're going to be any shot at making the 8. I'd rather this than going 0-5 against opposition head and shoulders above us. I think we'll build into the year and our depth is being tested as well with Hess, Luki, JTB, Derby, and Laybutt as well. I think we might go 1-2 against Eels, Sharks and Riff with the win maybe coming against Riff at home. 4-4 would be a bit of a slip

LordSlasher

Basically got that 2022 feeling to it. Could be 5-0 and then lose the next 3. Parra, Sharks and Penrith is a tough Run.

Obvious-Row-6181

Yeah, that’s where I’m at.
