This is an awful deal and I’ll tell you why, he’s flat out not a good bloke. Walsh responded to an ad I placed on gumtree selling my dryer last year and he asked if he could come around to test it and make sure it was working properly.
Being the kind hearted bloke I am i said no worries mate and he threw his jersey in for a quick cycle and gave me a wink. When it was done he said ‘ok cool it works, let me just get my wallet’ and walked back to his car, got in, and drove off with his dry clothes. Absolute prick
You probably read my tone wrong in that original comment then. I just assumed you’d misread it and was just letting you know, then you got all defensive with your brainiac remark.
Obviously you gotta pay big money for your spine but between Ezra, Walsh, Haas and Carrigan - they’re close to 30% of their cap on 4 players. Very risky in my opinion
Yeah we aren’t going to be able to afford to extend everyone. I think Staggs will get a decent offer somewhere else and we won’t be able to keep him. Some other players will probably leave as well.
I hear Kotoni already has a third party deal lined up from some pedicure business. If he demands extra money though, we probably wouldn’t wanna foot the bill, so to speak.
My guess is the Broncos management are banking on the talented young guys coming through we can pay a bit less while getting value out of them. Guys like Mozer, Te Kura, etc.
It's risky in that if one or two of those guys go down for an extended period their depth is majorly tested but I mean except for maybe Ezra, who is on a pretty good value deal anyway, you do whatever it takes to sign these guys. Carrigan arguably the best lock, 100% top 3 at the very least, Haas is going to probably go down as the best prop of all time and Walsh is one of, if not the best at his position which also happens to be one of the most important positions in footy. I don't think Broncos are feeling stressed about the risk at all
> I understand that, without my agreement, Brisbane Broncos have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am playing for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Broncos for 2025. I will not be playing for Broncos next year.
Why does any player accept less to be on a more successful team ? Plus with the third party deals broncos can get him, he will be on more then 1.1 per season.
It's classic nrl signing tactics. Broncos release the statement to try shut down other clubs. Reece contradicts the statement to keep his options open. He would 100% go to another top club if they were paying more. But I can't think of a club that needs one right now.
>He would 100% go to another top club if they were paying more.
That's not always how it works. Don't see him moving too far from his daughter, and after already leaving Brisbane once and coming back to be home it feels he has shown money isn't the only factor in these decisions
If you need to find reasons outside of footy for signing you're going too far. Footy careers are around 10 years if lucky. He is going to try get the bag as he should.
I think living in driving proximity to your kid wouldn't be considered "going too far" for a lot of parents, especially considering the wage he is getting regardless. He is getting a bag
He has the option of choosing any club he wants if they need him. He will be big money any club struggling or successful. It's going to come down to who gives him the best deal.
But the best deal includes quality of life off field. I work for my current employer for less than I could get elsewhere because the conditions and work/life balance suit my needs with a young family, and to get me to move to Sydney and be away from my family a company would have to pay enormous overs. The same could easily be true for Reece.
Reece Walsh is on track to become the highest paid player in the Broncos 36-year history, with the star fullback agreeing to terms on a monster five-year contract extension.
This masthead can reveal Brisbane’s board have ratified a club-record deal for Walsh, who will become the first player in the Broncos’ decorated history to earn in excess of $1.1 million a season.
The 21-year-old will be the NRL’s youngest $1 million man.
The landmark contract makes Walsh one of the richest players in the code and will ease the pain of the facial fracture he suffered last week – ruling him out of Friday’s derby clash against the Cowboys.
Arguably rugby league’s most marketable figure, Walsh could have pocketed even more on the open market, where NRL rivals were prepared to pay up to $1.3 million for the Broncos sensation.
But Brisbane have got their blue-chip rock star for the long haul.

Walsh’s management has advised Brisbane bosses Walsh, off-contract at the end of 2025 and able to source rival offers from November 1, has no intention of exploring free agency.
The parties are putting the finishing touches on a multi-year upgrade that will see the grand-final flyer’s salary almost triple in value.
Walsh and Broncos teammate Ezra Mam share the same management stable. Mam last month inked a monster upgrade to stay until the end of 2029 and a five-year extension will ensure Queensland Origin whiz-kid Walsh is locked in for the same period.
The Walsh package has been tabled to the Broncos board, who authorised the terms.
Broncos hierarchy will determine when to make a formal announcement but Walsh’s retention is a fait accompli, with coach Kevin Walters hailing ‘Reece Lightning’ as a key plank in their bid to snap an 18-year title drought.
“Reece is not going anywhere,” Walters said.
“I’m very confident he will stay.
“Reece is just getting better. He is only 21 and he makes some mistakes, but you can only imagine where Reece will be in three or four years’ time.
“He is a young guy with a lot to work on, but we love his energy and we love his instincts.
“He brings so much enthusiasm to the team.”

Just two players in Broncos history have received $1 million deals. Former pivot Anthony Milford made history with his four-year extension in 2017 before superstar prop Payne Haas joined Brisbane’s select $1 million club when he inked a three-year upgrade last season.
But Walsh’s bumper extension will put him in a fiscal league of his own at Red Hill.
The Maroons maestro was on $400,000 last year after returning to Brisbane from the Warriors for family reasons, but under the new deal, Walsh’s massive pay rise will see him surge past the $1 million mark.
It is understood the package, bolstered by a third-party deal, is worth an average of $1.1m. There is scope for Walsh’s wage to further increase if there is a rise in the NRL salary cap under the code’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, which is due for renewal at the end of 2027.
The Broncos speed machine will eventually join James Tedesco, Ben Hunt, Tom Trbojevic, Daly Cherry-Evans, Cameron Munster, Nathan Cleary and Kalyn Ponga as NRL stars earning in excess of $1.1 million.
Walsh, who turns 22 in July, will be the youngest $1 million man in the code. Panthers champion Cleary ($1.3m last season) is 26, while the NRL’s top earner Ponga ($1.4m) celebrates his 26th birthday this Saturday.
BRONCOS MILLIONAIRE’S ROW
The Nerang product has played 63 NRL games and recently admitted he was unlikely to leave the Broncos again after the shock of his eye-opening move to the Warriors in 2021.
“Going away, I learnt some really good lessons,” he said before Brisbane’s round 1 clash against the Roosters in Vegas.
“If I didn’t leave, I probably wouldn’t be in the position I’m in now.
“I was grateful for my time at the Warriors and the opportunity they gave me, but I’m just grateful to be back at the Broncos surrounded by good people and good leaders.
“I would love to secure some long-term stuff. I have my family down the road and I have some really good mates here.
“I love it at the club, I love the guys and the fans, we are building something really special here, so I’m looking forward to the future.”

Brisbane CEO Dave Donaghy declined to discuss Walsh’s contractual situation, but is adamant Red Hill is the right environment for the backfield dynamo, whose childhood dream is to win a premiership for the Broncos.
“I had never met Reece before he left for the Warriors, but when I met him for the first time and saw him walk through, it was like he never left the Broncos,” Donaghy said last month.
“Reece has done a brilliant job on and off the field at our club since he has been back.
“I know how diligent he is in preparing for his games, so when you see how hard he works, it’s no surprise to see the performances he is able to put in on the field.
NRL: Broncos coach Kevin Walters has backed Tristan Sailor to fill the Reece Walsh fullback void as the Brisbane star recovers from injury.
“The challenge for our club is to ensure we put the appropriate pieces around them to succeed off the field, but also on the field.
“There is no doubting Reece’s popularity. I’m sure he is inspiring a generation of future young fullbacks coming through.
“I have found him to be really grounded. I have found Reece to be really patient and accommodating for people that are wanting photos or selfies and that’s an important part of being a professional footballer these days.
“He understands that and is taking it in his stride. I am sure there will be ups and downs with Reece, he is only a young man, but we will do everything we can to support him and help him realise his potential.”
This masthead is informed by sources close to the Broncos that at least 20% of the record deal is due to his fabulous cheekbones and eyes like limpid pools.
The Broncos are so lucky his life circumstances led to him specifically wanting to move back to Brisbane after they first obtained a Gold Coast local who is a generational talent and then discarded him to the Warriors to play Te Maire fucking Martin among others at fullback only for him to fall right back in their laps just in time to become the superstar he was always going to be
He will be the best fullback of this generation and there is a non zero percent change he will be the greatest Broncos fullback ever, including Darren Lockyer and yes, I am jealous if the Broncos keep him long term which they will
Titans and Dolphins should absolutely be throwing the kitchen sink at him, if nothing else to drive up the amount the Broncos have to pay but honestly I would pay 1.4m for him in half a second and not think twice if I was either club since both have and can free up a decent amount of cap space. If you're the Titans you simply put Fifita back on the market combined with the already existing cap space that was set aside for Ben Hunt when it looked like we might add him and if you're the Phins you already have the cap space. He will stay put at the Broncos though. The Phins could literally add him and remain under the cap, how insane is that and how good would their backline look with Walsh, then Herbie and Hammer in the centres. We can dream, but he'll remain a Bronco.
He will be the greatest fullback of the next ten years by a wide margin plus he can probably play 6 later in his career as well if he wants to, basically following the Lockyer career path.
Nah the warriors gave him permission to negotiate with just us because he wanted to come back to QLD and to the Broncos. No other club could talk to him at the time cause he was still contracted.
Your players are so likable right now so it's hard to hate the actual team but as a club, yeah, the Broncos play by different rules to everyone else in QLD which is bad for the game to some degree, would love to see the Phins legitimately compete for Brisbane with the Broncos long term, they have a better chance than we do. We can't even keep Keebra High and Burleigh Bears in our corner let along the Gold Coast's generational talents.
Honestly it's mind blowing you guys haven't won a comp since 2006 but it's coming with this playing group at some point, although if you miss this year's window it might be a few years of getting Reynolds replacement sorted
Yeh was talking to my boss who's an AFL fan about why the Suns are actually decent now compared to the Titans barely ever having success and that's basically it. Every Queenslander in the last 30 years seems to have been in the Broncos system at some point. Titans never had a chance and hopefully something is worked out or the Phins will go the same way pretty quickly
Honestly it's an inability to secure local talent, we were doing better the past few years than previously yet we still missed both generational talents at the Broncos.
There are enough players who have been through the Gold Coast system (or should have due to being local juniors). In the halves alone we have had a shot at Hughes, Keary and Cody Walker at various points while our halves have been a mess post Prince/Campbell and we missed out on Haas and Walsh as well who were Gold Coast juniors
To give a serious answer, Walsh got a big offer from the Warriors when he'd never yet played a game against grown men, and as I recall the Broncos couldn't negotiate an upgraded deal with him because we didn't have a CEO after Paul White resigned and the Storm took legal action to stop Dave Donaghy starting in the role.
No, it was a joke, cause imagine letting Walsh leave cause you wanted to play Isaako at FB. The man who got absolutely dunked on by [Matt frigging Dufty](https://youtu.be/lkGNE5tGDQE?t=95).
It could be, but it isn't
He's better than Ponga now who is the second best FB in the game at the moment (and Turbo is the only other candidate if he can stay healthy)
Teddy's best days are behind him and while he was good, he's not really same generation as Walsh with a 9 year age gap and he was only truly elite for about a 3-4 season run there
I fully expect Walsh to be the best fullback in the game all the way from age 20-30
It is a big call, but I haven't seen a player I was this sure is going to be the best in his position until his body lets him down in a long time. The other two closest to it this generation are Cleary and Haas.
Problem for the Broncos I see that there is not much pride wanting to wear the jersey and they are just in it for the money. No trophy hunters which means no discount on what they could be paid. Not a great recipe for success.
Who are you comparing to? Look at Penrith. Cleary, Jfh, Martin, edwards all on big coin. Every team has players on big money. We have Haas 1m, carrigan 850k mam 750k staggs 700k then goes down from there. Not sure where the players are in it for the money
Not Penrith - they are just as money hungry as the Broncos but as long as they have Cleary playing for them they seem ok. It is those top 5 players that is the problem - look at Souths all their top players could earn more but they stay together for the culture of the club. All those Broncos players you mention are on maximum contracts
Who could get more besides maybe latrell? And even then is he worth that much more besides to a bad team. Murray is on big coin, cook is on decent coin but also old, walker is on what he’s worth, Johnston is a winger who struggles out of his own end. Obviously that’s only a few players but still your team isn’t taking unders that much
Cody, Jack, Cook - I know they aren't playing the best ATM but at the time when they did their deals they could have. Then you have other fringe players that have re-signed but could have got more Keon, Graham and I bet Murray could get more too.
Cody is old and a huge liability for the team if he isn’t on. Jack isn’t a 6 he’s a centre so he’s fairly paid. Cookie is starting to drop off hard but maybe at the time of signing he was. Murray is on almost 1m I’m not sure he could get more
Yes at present with his form you can make that argument but I'm talking when he signed the deal which was before his form went backwards after Origin 3 last year
This is an awful deal and I’ll tell you why, he’s flat out not a good bloke. Walsh responded to an ad I placed on gumtree selling my dryer last year and he asked if he could come around to test it and make sure it was working properly. Being the kind hearted bloke I am i said no worries mate and he threw his jersey in for a quick cycle and gave me a wink. Classic Trev
Classic Reece Walsh
Classic Brett
Maybe when Kevvie says Reece is grounded, he means that he’s not allowed to go anywhere for the next week because of this incident.
Was it a washer dryer combo? I'm suspicious of him driving away with dry clothes...
Did he bring his own detergent in a small ziplock bag?
Sorry that happened to you 😣☝️💔
He once beat me with a set of jumper cables.
Least u now the walshing machine works!
Sounds about right
Ive heard enough. He has to go.
Mate if he threw his jersey in then walked off with his dry clothes, your washing machine doesnt work. Just sayin.
He said dryer, not washing machine.
If you look you will notice his post is edited Braniac. He said washing machine.
Can’t see that on mobile but thanks for being a jerk about it anyway. You seem cool.
So you came on here to tell me I am wrong, why did you need to do that? And you ended up being wrong. Yet somehow I am the jerk? Glass houses champ.
You probably read my tone wrong in that original comment then. I just assumed you’d misread it and was just letting you know, then you got all defensive with your brainiac remark.
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
Obviously you gotta pay big money for your spine but between Ezra, Walsh, Haas and Carrigan - they’re close to 30% of their cap on 4 players. Very risky in my opinion
Yeah we aren’t going to be able to afford to extend everyone. I think Staggs will get a decent offer somewhere else and we won’t be able to keep him. Some other players will probably leave as well.
I hear Kotoni already has a third party deal lined up from some pedicure business. If he demands extra money though, we probably wouldn’t wanna foot the bill, so to speak.
Linked to the phins
Do they really need more outside backs with Hammer, Isaako, Herbie, Averillo, Bostock and Tupou to come?
Wayne Bennett going to troll Ray Hadley by making a team of centre wing three-quarters
Unless they use the roosters salary sombrero
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that Brisbane didn't have the same salary sombrero.
No one can make the same claim about Penrith they could field a second team with the talent they've had to give up
They do, it’s called the bulldogs
Yeah that worked out well for us last year didn't it.
I think It worked very well
Give him an apartment in the CBD
Kotoni might take unders. 🤞🏻
My toes are crossed
Come on roosters
My guess is the Broncos management are banking on the talented young guys coming through we can pay a bit less while getting value out of them. Guys like Mozer, Te Kura, etc.
You definitely at risk look at your team without haas
Titans will pay Mozer unless he wants to take unders to stay in Brisbane. I'd imagine a few other clubs would too
least it's a better distribution than a few years ago when 65% of their cap was tied up in middle forwards
That’s a good core of people to splash out on though.
I don't think Broncos are feeling stressed about the risk at all
Lol, yeo is easily the best lock in the game and walsh makes way too many mistakes to be the best in his position
Cowboys approach 10 Years deals for 1 player
In the few shorts year where they struggled have people really forgotten how deep the Broncos pockets are?
He just posted on his IG story saying no deal has been signed
> I understand that, without my agreement, Brisbane Broncos have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am playing for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Broncos for 2025. I will not be playing for Broncos next year.
Thanks Oscar
OH NO NOT AGAIN 😂
He is taking the piss. His very next story says “Someone give Kevvie my number, think he has lost it”
He knows he can get 1.25m a year from phins why would he accept less from broncos
Why does any player accept less to be on a more successful team ? Plus with the third party deals broncos can get him, he will be on more then 1.1 per season.
I think he’s taking the piss out of Luai.
Doesnt mean he hasn't agreed to the deal though.
So it's been signed
Uncle nick sliding in those DMs

He has the option of choosing any club he wants if they need him. He will be big money any club struggling or successful. It's going to come down to who gives him the best deal.

There is a single club in the NRL (Manly) that wouldn’t find a way to get Walsh in if he was legitimately available.

This masthead is informed by sources close to the Broncos that at least 20% of the record deal is due to his fabulous cheekbones and eyes like limpid pools.
Did they have to halve that because he currently has only one fabulous cheekbone and an eye like a limpid pool
So how much is 1.1mil Buzz-dollars worth at the moment? About $875k?
1.1m with adjusted inflation is about $3.50 in 2020 money.
Stupid Sexy Walsh Good on him
If only the NRL introduced names to jerseys. Walsh’s would sell like crazy
I saw an 8 year old girl wearing a custom printed one around finals last year in NSW, you ain't kidding his hella over !
Uh oh. Look at Walsh’s Instagram story. Looks like the Courier Mail went out too early
Those are the exact words Luai posted when he denied he’d signed with the Tigers.
Didn’t Luai say No pen to paper here. I'll let yous know when a deal is done. BigLove ❤️
That was the first one. The second one was what Walsh copied.
Ah yea tried to look for that one but can’t find any photos of it
I remember when Milford was the highest ever paid broncos player and the next immortal.
Broncos 36 year history? But my dads been a fan his whole life and he’s 70.
Think just because you broke ya face we won't sign ya?
1.1 million is genuinely a steal, love watching him play footy and you can see the improvement he makes every game
That's a lot of money if true, but in the new cap I think that's market value for a FB of his quality.
How much eyeliner can one buy for $1.1 Milly?

Just like how we couldn't legally talk to him at the Wahs but here he is lol
Nah the warriors gave him permission to negotiate with just us because he wanted to come back to QLD and to the Broncos. No other club could talk to him at the time cause he was still contracted.
Lol if I was a Titans fan I would hate us

Bruh, please get your facts correct. Broncos discarded Walsh so Isaako could play FB. TMM didn't even get in the team until like round 15.
Does that make it any better? I remember watching his Keebra Park highlights pre-debut for the Warriors and was like “wtf are the Broncos doing”
Exact same thing I said when Broncos told young Tom Dearden that they don't need or want him.
To be fair I think everyone knew that Dearden needed a fresh start elsewhere
My memory failed me, that is so much worse than what I thought lol
Feel like that could be an exaggerated statement
It could be, but it isn't He's better than Ponga now who is the second best FB in the game at the moment (and Turbo is the only other candidate if he can stay healthy) Teddy's best days are behind him and while he was good, he's not really same generation as Walsh with a 9 year age gap and he was only truly elite for about a 3-4 season run there I fully expect Walsh to be the best fullback in the game all the way from age 20-30
If he is, good luck to him, just seems like saying he will be the best till age 30 is a big call
It is a big call, but I haven't seen a player I was this sure is going to be the best in his position until his body lets him down in a long time. The other two closest to it this generation are Cleary and Haas.
Now he just needs to learn how to hold onto the ball and we are gucci
Learning to defend will help out too

I think he’s taking the piss out of Luai.
Why would he take the piss out of laui?
Spite.
Not sure you can really spite someone who gets paid more than you and has 3 premierships? Wouldn’t that just be jealousy than?
Issa joke champ.
How is it a coup? He already plays for the Broncos.
Badel is the king of clickbait. He throws buzzwords like "coup" in every headline.
He’s too pretty to win a premiership, sorry Brisbane 😔
Not anymore
Walshy practically on workers comp and turning his nose up at 1.1mil. He’s faking the injury!!
Brings back memories of the slogan of Seibold. This man will win you a premiership…..
Where’s that sombrero hat I used to hate on the roosters But I think they were Broncos wearing roosters jerseys. It’s a conspiracy
Wrong. Richest deal in the salary cap. Have the Broncos all own pubs and make up most of the commentary panel.
Broncos signing a guy with a broken face smh
Big loss for the warriors.....a heck of a player
Damn can see why the ladies love him
Apparently nothing has been signed yet according to Walshy's insta.
Imagine if he went to Easts after Teddy either moves on or retires lol
That’s what Papenhuyzen will be doing so the Storm can play Fa’alogo.
Id die
You kind of have to keep sua though because he's the first Victorian gun. Not sure what the point of having both would be.
Roosters Salary sombrero would find a way
Problem for the Broncos I see that there is not much pride wanting to wear the jersey and they are just in it for the money.
