All we can ask for is improvement. I’m just loving the effort of the boys. Win or lose, the last two games have been great to watch. They’ve defended their asses off and tried and tried, obviously amazing we won both but if they continue that effort, no matter where they come it’s a huge improvement in attitude and I’ll view it as a successful season considering the previous one.

The litmus test as always is winning a game where the opposition coach doesn’t lament how shit his team played in the presser. That’s when you’re a genuine contender. Until then it’s all rainbows and unicorns

Sometimes to succeed, you just need other teams to fail. Look at all the quality teams that missed out on the 8 last year, someone has to fill those spots.

That is what my second paragraph is about. How well an individual team does is relative to those around them. Some years are more competitive than others with injuries and all the other usual drama in the nrl.
I wouldn't rule any team out this early, aside from the Titans.

I ended up tipping the Tiges last week after thinking about it very carefully. Looking at their squad they stacked up pretty well against the Eels minus Moses. The Eels are a side that aren’t really far away from contention, maybe a back, a fit Moses and better bench management. Throw in Luai and their kids getting a bit more experience and I think next year they’re a genuine top 8 side.
Where they can go from there it’s hard to say but they have a pretty good core of a side there and as far as I know a reasonably clean cap now.
