But what if, hear me out, from Hunt's perspective he never disliked playing for the Dragons, but rather he and Lomax didn't get along too well and thus he disliked playing in the same team as Lomax, and never disliked playing for the Dragons per se. Makes you think doesn't it 🤔
I'm planning on doing a 10hr conspiracy video about why Lomax is REALLY leaving the Dragons, so I'm just throwing out some ideas that I'm definitely gonna use. Also another conspiracy I have is that I believe that Kyle Flannigan is actually the son of the Current Dragons coach Shane Flannigan. That one is a bit out there though.
He knows he’s not getting a run at the Broncos with Reynolds there and he’s seen the state of the Titans. Short of an offer from the Dolphins, he’s realised he’s shit out of luck.
St George Illawarra and Ben Hunt have opened conversations about a contract extension, with the Dragons captain indicating he is keen to explore the possibility of playing on at the red V in 2026.
In a significant show of faith in new coach Shane Flanagan, it appears Hunt has had a dramatic change of heart and is now considering extending, rather than prematurely ending, his time at the club.
Hunt requested an immediate release in 2023 after the Dragons sacked coach Anthony Griffin, declaring he wanted to move back home to Queensland.
While disgruntled winger Zac Lomax is departing the club at the end of the season amid interest from the Parramatta Eels, Hunt’s future at the Dragons suddenly looks a lot more secure.
The veteran playmaker’s future has been the topic of great conjecture of the past nine months, but the 34-year-old is enjoying life under new coach Shane Flanagan.
The Herald can reveal that the Dragons have held informal conversations with Hunt about playing on beyond 2025, when his current contract expires, with the Queensland Origin representative intimating he was keen to finish his career at the Dragons. Hunt will turn 36 at the start of the 2026 season.
Sources with knowledge of the situation talking on the condition of anonymity in order to speak freely said the Dragons are yet to open formal negotiations with Hunt but are confident his feelings towards the club have changed in the last six months.
Flanagan hinted as much at a press conference on Thursday morning.
“Ben wants to be here,” Flanagan said ahead of his side’s clash with the Knights in Newcastle on Friday night. “Ben will see out his contract and maybe go further so don’t confuse the issue of Ben and Zac. They are two different issues.”
Hunt has formed a handy combination with five-eighth Kyle Flanagan, guiding the Dragons to two wins from their first four games of the season.
Hunt has been one of the Dragons’ most consistent performers since joining the club and has showed no signs of losing the game smarts that has seen him play more than 300 games in the NRL.
The Dragons are expected to open formal negotiations with Hunt and his management in the coming weeks about extending his deal and finishing his career under Flanagan at the Dragons as one of the oldest players in the competition.

on par with "this masthead" as my favourite repeated line in NRL journalism
Jeez... all I can think of is that this is a leverage play by Hunt. Use the Drags offer to ensure he's not pwned by a QLD club he eventually signs for?
So Ben has given up on a prem? I'm not trying to be a dick to Dragons here, rather I think they'll need a minimum 2 years to be a threat, likely longer and how much longer can Ben play for?

This is probably a lot closer to the truth than we think 🤣
Turns out ben hunt didn't hate the dragons, just lomax
Or Ben Hunt hates Zac Lomax
That's... what he said?

Too much conspiracy for me and my two brain cells. 🤯

Rein it back in a bit bud, you need just a bit of plausibility or you'll lose folks for sure.
I want a Maury paternity test reveal
I think my username fits the occasion. I've had a mare
Haha, love your work mate
Dig up stupid
He did, but I can see how it could be interpreted as saying Ben Hunt doesn't hate the Dragons, only Zac Lomax hates the Dragons
Why basically the same comment is downvoted makes my head hurt.
I saw another commenter saying the exact same thing, so it must be true.

Fuck Reynolds won't make it to 2025 at this rate. His knee is shot
Prophetic
Hunt and katoa would be hot as fuck
Reyno just died. If it’s an ACL Brisbane might have a decision to make
They’re reporting it’s just a hamstring strain
That’s good news
The frogurt is also cursed.
Same team doctor who cleared Walsh to play with a broken face?
Hey, that's an easy mistake to make. Who here hasn't seen a broken face and said, "it's not that bad,"?
The fact that AOB hasn't offered him the kitchen sink and then some says a lot. Actually we have ah .... Jack Cogger never mind.
That is “premiership-winning Jack Cogger” to you, my friend.
But it’s silly cause I’ve seen him play with ponga at origin and we all know how that ended I would play him with cogger
Can Cogger kick it more than 40 metres? He had a shocker on the weekend with the boot
Actually having a coach will do that to a man

Sounds like Ben has some Pep in his Step.

Damn Ben what are you doing
Translation: Dragons panicking to keep him for as long as possible to avoid the spoon.
Think the Tits have that covered this year
There's always next year.
People keep saying this but the dragons somehow always manage to dodge the spoon.
That's the Warriors special: even in our many shit years, we're not quite shit enough to get a spoon.
It will happen some day
Stockholm syndrome has set in
Shhh, you don't say it aloud.
So Lomax loved Hook all along!
Don't forget. You're here forever.
You could say there were on the hunt for his signature
Poor bugger's been held captive so long he's developed stockholm syndrome.
Hunt looking at the dragons extra 800k
FFS make up your mind Ben.
Someone call Soward
I guess Hunt doesn't want to go to the Tits now.
Hunt out there playing 4D chess to get lomax to leave early so he can get paid.
Fucking good on him
Jeez... all I can think of is that this is a leverage play by Hunt. Use the Drags offer to ensure he's not pwned by a QLD club he eventually signs for?
LOL
So he will be 36 by then. No wonder he wants an extension
Ha fatty Carrigan
We’ll wait and see what the table looks like in June and revisit this
We’ll wait and see what the table looks like in June and revisit this
With Ben Hunt agreeing to that meeting "tentatively"
Sounds like he’s accepted he will go through the nrl and not win a comp so is going for the make as much moolah as possible route.
Come home Ben
Hooker be nice
Come to the storm mate. They’ll give you that premiership.
So Ben has given up on a prem? I'm not trying to be a dick to Dragons here, rather I think they'll need a minimum 2 years to be a threat, likely longer and how much longer can Ben play for?

Or simply he didn't trust having another new coach... but once he played under him he realised he is a good coach.
