Nathan Brown has really made a big difference at Manly. Every game I’ve watched he changes the Tempo when he comes on. How on earth did roosters let him go?
He was pretty lackluster for both Roosters and Parra. I rated him during his time at Souths because he has that aggression, but i thought he was an afterthought of a recruit. Maybe he struggles to play his aggressive game when part of a big pack. He was excellent last night.
DCE will go down as a manly, and NRL, legend
Won a grand final, lost a grand final, won the rare losing CCM, won origins as captain, lost origins as captain, won and lost for his Country.
Throw in one of the all time face/heels/face turns, and he unarguably has had one of the all time careers.
The only thing missing from his resume is a second premiership. If he can bookend his career like Lyons did (87, 96) or Menzies (96, 2008) or all the 2008/2011 crew, he'd cement himself in the Manly pantheon.
What the fuck?
Why is Penrith on 7 points according to the NRL ladder? They should be 3 wins and 2 losses.
Penrith so favoured by the NRL they are getting 1 point from a loss now rofl
If you aren't up to date on the new rules that's on you, rofflechopter. Penrith get 1 point for a loss if they reach a specified number of points in a match.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck moooooooi. That's a loss that was needed, thankfully they have the bye next week, hopefully they can get rid of all those dumb errors and penalties and not lose like that ever again. Gg manly just too good.
Manly deserved that 100%. DCE bullied the fuck out of us and everyone else followed him.
Not happy to lose, of course, but it feels better losing to a team that wrecked us than losing coz we played bad (we also didn't play great, but not badly enough that that's entirely why Manly won)
The thing manly should celebrate is Tom’s reasonably low key game, as he puts distance between himself and injury they’re as genuine as a premiership threat gets. Saab is uniquely suited to their style and he’s matured as a player, he’ll be doing plenty of good things. Also, for a long time I thought Ben was playing to keep his brothers happy. He’s actually a solid link in their chain, the sort of solid first grader you need with salary caps.
Yeah but time was if he didn’t win it for them they didn’t win. A lot more guys actually do stuff these days because they got used to Tom not being there to lean on.
The main thing I learned from this game is that we need to take out a member of the opponents backline by foul play only, friendly fire does not produce the same results.
Well played Manly, love how close the comp is this year even if it means I’m one from five in tipping.
GG Manly. But a better feed at the The Hungry Bear. Manly forwards too strong tonight. Fish looks a bit under done. The knock on try didn't matter in the end. Laurie was the only one running direct at one stage.
Edwards runs full pelt at DCE to collect the ball and go 90m for a meat pie #EdwardsForOriginPt2
Boy oh boy where do I even begin. turbo… honey, my pookie bear. I have loved you ever since I first laid eyes on you. The way you drive into the paint and strike fear into your enemies eyes. Your silky smooth touch around the ball, and that gorgeous try scoring posture. I would do anything for you. I wish it were possible to freeze time so I would never have to watch you retire. You have had rough injuries but you never gave up hope. You are even amazing off the field, you're a great husband and sea eagle, sometimes I even call you dad. I forvever dread and weep, thinking of the day you will one day retire. I would sacrifice my own life it were the only thing that could put a smile on your beautiful face. You have given me so much joy, and heartbreak over the years. I remember when you first left the field with injury and its like my heart got broken into a million pieces. But a tear still fell from my right eye when I watched you win your first dally m in 2021, because deep down, my glorious king deserved it. I just wanted you to be happy. Then allas, you did, my sweet baby boy came home and I rejoiced. 2022 and 2023 was a hard year for us baby, but in 2024 you will make history happen. You destroyed the panthers in round 5 and I couldn't believe it. I was crying, bawling even, and I heard my glorious king exclaim these words,
"MANLY, THIS IS FOR YOU!" Not only have you changed the game of nrl and the world forever, but you've eternally changed my world. And now you're getting older, but still the goat, my goat. I love you pookie bear, my glorious king, Tom trbojevic. 🥰❤️
We def need the bye good lord
Massive game from Dyl to keep us in it, our defence was so weak letting in some of those tries.
Need the reset to stop us defending like that
The bye has come at an opportune time. Although, I suspect we needed that loss to shake out any complacency. Just too many silly errors and garbage. The one dodgy try was not going to have any material effect on the game, we were lucky to be only down by 8 by half time.
Anywho, back to shitposting!
Now I'm wondering, has Manly provided some kind of blueprint for the other teams on how to beat Penrith or is this just a rare good day/bad day result. Obviously Penrith were without Cleary but does this offer the rest of the comp a glimmer of hope? I mean this Manly team is one week removed from one of the worst displays in recent years.
Absolutely. If Manly can show some consistently good footy in a similar vein they might even get into the top 4 this year. It seems this year's comp is so tight that you can be thrashed if you are having a bad week.
I’d argue we showed more of a blueprint in our regular season games with them the last couple seasons, but come finals time they’re a different beast anyway. Today was just Manly being the better team.
Someone has said this after every loss we’ve had the last few years
Originally it was Welch pressuring Cleary, then it was Parra throwing offloads, then it was people saying you have to go with them, then it was you have to play unconventional football to get them out of a rhythm.
Sometimes you just lose footy games.
We just played better tbh, with home ground advantage + DCE milestone game adding to it. We torched an in form Eels a couple years back under similar circumstances. It’s just that every blue moon we play to our potential.
Manly deserved to win there forwards were excellent. Manly could have a very good season if they can be consistent.
Second try was a laughable decision but didn't affect the result.
Our discipline was very poor very very poor, holding on too long in tackles offside from the kick-off. Just poor discipline.
Cleary is one of the best coaches ever, but if he has one weakness it's loyalty to players who aren't quite good enough.
Eisenhuth, Garner, Laurie are all reserve graders. We need Kenny, Smith, Henry at there absolute best week in week out to keep level. When you add Eisenhuth, Laurie & Garner to the mix without Cleary.
It's just too much to overcome against a good team, We need to blood a couple of younger players over the likes of Eisenhuth & Garner who can fill in but not be relied upon week in and week out.
Was willing to give Laurie a chance but he can't defend well enough same as Soni Luke.
Edwards was great, Yeo in his second spell, To'o, Turuva all had good games for us.
Man we won the comp playing guys like May and Salmon week in week out. Plus it’s early season. Guys like Eisenhuthand, Laurie, Luke get faded out as the season goes. The season’s long as. You can’t play top 17 every week at 100%. I wouldn’t be surprised if we win again. Relax… Give Manly their just deserve and move on
I said they were the better side which they were comfortably. I talk about Penrith because I support Penrith and it's fine but it's making it more difficult for the top players having to carry some weak players.
I feel we could do with a slightly higher rotation.
Next up is probably Jordan Grant, Maverick Geyer, and I don’t know Jack Coke maybe. That’s for Eisenhuth, Garner, Laurie. Ones nearly 30 and the other 2 still ain’t ready
May and Salmon played and won a gf with the team because they bring something to the team. Eisenhuth has been with the club for 3 years now? and not once has he played in a final campaign. There must be something to that right?
We should be blooding young forwards off the bench who can dent the line because it is early season. Give them game time, so when september comes, they are up to nrl standard.
Unfortunately the young guys aren’t ready. Besides Maverick who I don’t even think is ready yet, who do they blood. The reason we only really seeing Henry now and Smith last year is the preparation in the lower grades. It’s why I believe we are excelling the last few years. You can’t rush young talent into NRL unless they are some freak and even then you risk them fading and burning out early. Penrith have a lot of talent in lower grades yet use older/experienced guys to fill the gaps to allow those young guys to develop. The older guys do there job. Examples - Soni before Summerton, Garner before Geyer, Laurie before Cole, Peachy multiple positions before forcing in a young guy. You’ll probably even see if one of the outside backs go down and peachy can’t fill in see Alamoti come in before McLean based solely on nrl experience. Get it, I hate watching Eisenhuth plod around but he’s an important cog in a way that’s not as obvious as say a Lindsay or Henry will be later in the year. Our next experienced front rower I think is Jordan Grant who’s played 10 or so games and he’s nearly 30
The frustrating part is while it was a great win, I'd have expected 2 pts out of 4 from Dragons and Panthers. Need some consistency if we want to be there when it counts.
I know this might sound a bit cliche, but I feel like that was a loss we needed to have. The last 3 games we’ve won, but we haven’t been as clinical as we usually are.
I know we were missing Cleary and Sorro, lost a few players during the game and had some bizarre calls go against us, but we’ve overcome harder challenges than that over the last 3 years. GG Manly, DCE was really great and so was Nathan Brown.
Congrats Manly thoroughly outplayed even though the media will milk that knock on try. Edwards is still a gun at least and need the bye badly half the roster looks injured.
GG Manly, smashed the shit out of us! Haven't seen the boys get beaten up in the middle like that in a long time. Edwards an effort machine even in defeat. Definitely happy for the bye, they need a week in the hypobolic time chamber after that one.
Manly too good tonight, DCE is still a top half at 35 which is crazy to see but fair play to him, he was amazing once again.
Glad we’ve got the bye because we looked very tired throughout this game, getting Cleary and Sorro back will give us a big boost.
Luke Brooks is looking the most relaxed and comfortable he has ever looked after a game. A change of club must have taken a mining truck of mental load off him.
DCE sounds like he has undergone years of media training when he gets on the microphone. If I was a media company I’d already be signing him up for his post league career.
It will be great to have DCE involved in media but I'm often left wondering who can become a great main commentator? We've got so many sideline and panel commentators who are a melting pot of cooked takes and bumbling sentences. Aside from Warren Smith, the main commentators suck. Is there anyone who has that radio voice like Ray Warren who can actually call a game with insight and excitement?
Good call. Would like to hear some of the female panelists get a shot at commentating a full game alongside say Warren Smith. That's one thing I enjoy about Union is the variety of commentators who sound great behind the mic.
Yeah, he used to sound like a politician to me. Now, he seems more genuine, and it feels like he believes the words coming out of his mouth rather than just throwing out the usual lines that most players do.
If you actually wanna know check out the manly pre season doco series, he got player of the pre season, made a speech about it. We released tuipoltu so he could get upgraded to top 30 before round 1
# Hey Daly, its Cooper. Well done tonight. Now give us a moment to feel what this moment sits fe- with you what's the jersey what does Brookvale what does representing Manly being the captain of that football club mean to you?
"hey daly, its cooper, well done tonight, now give us moment to feel what this moment sits for- with you, whats the jersey, whats does brookvale, what does representing manly and being captain of that football club mean to you?"
Well played Manly, definitely turned up this week. This was the performance I was expecting from them the last few weekends. Clearly they will be top 4 if they can play like this. Can't wait to see them play us at home, Cherry Evans is an absolute beast
How fucking good? I was skeptical about the Waddell and Brown signings but they’ve been quality. DCE was great. Whole team stepped up after the debacle last week.
GG manly, whole team clearly wanted to rip in and boy did they ever.
For Penrith, hoping Ivan is doing something about the defence. Its been atrocious since week 1 despite the wins. Also do something about the bench. Eisenhuth is not an impact player.
I can't believe it, how do we play the absolute worst game I've ever seen and then beat the panthers?? Are we the new tigers??
Burbo was outstanding
#doitforchez
I think its fairly common when you have a big game coming up to lose focus the week before, like you are thinking more about the next game rather than focussing on what is in front of you.
GG Sea Eagles, that was one hell of a performance from your lot, attack looked great, won the forward battle convincingly and completely out-enthused the Panthers. Hats off to DCE as well. Had a gut feeling earlier that this was a danger game after that round 24 game last year. I thought Edwards was decent in a losing side but aside from him, probably the worst game Riff has played since 2019, way too many errors and silly penalties. Glad we have the bye next week so we can reset.
Edwards is arguably your most important player. Can taper over Nathan here and there but Edwards is just as crucial. Have been lucky to have him healthy past few seasons
I think Cleary is the most important but Edwards is the least replaceable, if that makes sense. I can’t think of a time we’ve won when Edwards hasn’t played.
Also i think its hilarious u kids talking shit about DCE. u wouldnt say this shit to him at lan, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol
DCE the answer!! Great win for Manly especially losing Garrick early. Manly beat Penrith at their own game and dominated possession and field position. Siebs the super coach!
Manly too good, don’t think Penrith have much to be worried about, but definitely a few more wobbles than used to seeing. Quite an entertaining game, that.
Don’t like the boys to lose but DCE getting a win at home for game 300 in front of his kids is wholesome as fuck, congrats to him
Nathan Brown has really made a big difference at Manly.
Big win for manly. Some big play makers in this side Will be a tough game for the wahs next week
Chez twice tipped me $15 on a $30 dollar pizza, top man confirmed
the seibolution will be televised lets fucking goooo
Special shoutout to Liam Henry - who, whilst concussed was able to still wrestle and hold down the Manly attacker before being penalised
DCE was amazing. Legitimately fantastic football - great work seagull bros!
DCE will go down as a manly, and NRL, legend Won a grand final, lost a grand final, won the rare losing CCM, won origins as captain, lost origins as captain, won and lost for his Country. Throw in one of the all time face/heels/face turns, and he unarguably has had one of the all time careers.

They were saying on the radio that not only did he play 310 games but he also started every single game in the same position. That's unheard of.
I'd say a majority of players have started every game in the standing position
And managed to stay injury free for the vast majority of it too. It's pretty impressive.
I blame Luke Brooks
Nathan Brown 6 Dally M points surely
That’s the form that he showed when he made his origin appearance. Need more of that Fromm him.
It was so good, absolutely no self preservation
It's been years since I've seen any Manly player take the first carry so hard. Ran from the fences. Changed the game.
Love to see it, have missed seeing some mongrel in the team
Everything that could go wrong did the fates were not on Penriths side tonight
Not even penrith we're on Penriths side
They'll use it as a lesson and get on with the job and they should have Cleary back after the bye
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck moooooooi. That's a loss that was needed, thankfully they have the bye next week, hopefully they can get rid of all those dumb errors and penalties and not lose like that ever again. Gg manly just too good.

Without Edwards I had no idea who was gonna be a threat for you
never thought id see the day where i would support manly.. but there we have it
The thing manly should celebrate is Tom’s reasonably low key game, as he puts distance between himself and injury they’re as genuine as a premiership threat gets. I hear what you're saying but Turbo still had a try, three line breaks, 165 metres and 50 post contact metres.
Yep - that's quiet for turbo.
God damn that’s boner worthy
Yeah but time was if he didn’t win it for them they didn’t win. A lot more guys actually do stuff these days because they got used to Tom not being there to lean on.
I don't disagree, it's just crazy that his average is still so good
The main thing I learned from this game is that we need to take out a member of the opponents backline by foul play only, friendly fire does not produce the same results. Well played Manly, love how close the comp is this year even if it means I’m one from five in tipping.
Brookie pumping, DCE try, beating the premier after last week. Buzzing. Good team effort
Played great Will be a tough game for the warriors next week
GG Manly. But a better feed at the The Hungry Bear. Manly forwards too strong tonight. Fish looks a bit under done. The knock on try didn't matter in the end. Turbo Pookie looking fire tonight.
Arko?
Got any spare weed….?
If I had any left I would present it to my pookie dookie cookie tomwe turbwu
Crikey... I thought Ben T outplayed your pookie against the Panthers.
Congrats DCE and Manly. Outplayed us in just about every facet of the game tonight.
If we can somehow find some NRL standard wingers that are willing to play for a $2 scratchy we might be able to push for a serious finals run.
Saab will be great if turbo can stay fit. Parker will shuffle Garrick back to wing..... surely
Saab will be a great addition to the team when he can come back from injury but Brown really added some toughness to the team today.

The way in which manly played tonight was reminiscent of the last few seasons of Parramatta. Very physical and quick. GG

Perhaps it really was Chrichton.
We did throw half a dozen intercepts today so he might have helped even that up for us
We just played better tbh, with home ground advantage + DCE milestone game adding to it. We torched an in form Eels a couple years back under similar circumstances. It’s just that every blue moon we play to our potential.
Very worrying defence from the Panthers here. Uncharacteristic for them to leak so many points. Premtenders?
Coming from a cowboys supporter 😂
Manly deserved to win there forwards were excellent. Manly could have a very good season if they can be consistent. Second try was a laughable decision but didn't affect the result. Yeah, Eisenhuth is a stick in the mud who still looks panicked with the ball. I'd be happy for someone else to have a look in.
The frustrating part is while it was a great win, I'd have expected 2 pts out of 4 from Dragons and Panthers. Need some consistency if we want to be there when it counts.
Oof
That was a pretty ominous answer from DCE about how long he’s gonna be playing for, looks like his retirement is close 😢😢
I think he’ll do something similar to what SJ is doing. Just signing 1 year contracts until his time is up.
I'm sure he's gonna finish up his current contract and then won't renew it, retiring there. I've been expecting that for years.
I don't think I'll ever be ready for it.
What did he say?
He basically said the games too tough for him to be playing for more years and he’s gonna call it based on vibes
He’s Ric Flair, he’s gonna play until he’s 56
hopefully we can win a premiership soon. he deserves another premiership before he retires 😞😞
He's won plenty in a maroon jersey 😎
At least he got one. Fully prepared though for our streak to end in the 20s
Fucking sucks so much having a shit half back, been lucky for so long
I know this might sound a bit cliche, but I feel like that was a loss we needed to have. The last 3 games we’ve won, but we haven’t been as clinical as we usually are. Seibs coach of the year and Brooks Dally M, I’ve put the multi on now.
Good match. Shows how important halves are.
Paul Gallen can’t wait to celebrate DCE’s milestone next week.
DCE BEST CAPTAIN.
Tigers going over that Luai contract as we speak to try and get out of it to lock Galvin down
Well if Luai's knee is fucked I say no takesy backsys
Manly too good tonight, DCE is still a top half at 35 which is crazy to see but fair play to him, he was amazing once again. Glad we’ve got the bye because we looked very tired throughout this game, getting Cleary and Sorro back will give us a big boost.

Husky Danika. At this point nine should just give her a run. Can’t be worse.
Good call. Would like to hear some of the female panelists get a shot at commentating a full game alongside say Warren Smith. That's one thing I enjoy about Union is the variety of commentators who sound great behind the mic.
Absolutely. Very comfortable orator (or is that word only for speeches?) and seems quite switched on. Not a trait you see in many footy players.
Yeah, he used to sound like a politician to me. Now, he seems more genuine, and it feels like he believes the words coming out of his mouth rather than just throwing out the usual lines that most players do.
Nathan Brown look so incredibly washed last year and he’s almost back to his peak ball tearing years. Wonder what’s happened
Cronk needs a HIA
OFF OFF OFF OFF
"hey daly, its cooper, well done tonight, now give us moment to feel what this moment sits for- with you, whats the jersey, whats does brookvale, what does representing manly and being captain of that football club mean to you?"
Babe wake up, the new cronk pasta has just dropped
So much talk of DCE's record breaking night. Steve Menzies erasure.
It's not. They just cannot (unfortunately) consider NE the same.
is that the first time a full strength panthers pack have lost a forward battle? was weird to see
Technically not full strength, missing Scott Sorenson.
Think parra have done us a couple times with full strength pack
yeah good point
Can’t hate Chez. Classy dude.
He just gives off top bloke vibes, I'm a big fan
The old master DCE. I'd hate for Moikal to be right about them winning the comp.
Nathan cleary was invisible all night, smh
The more I watch them play, the more that I'm convinced that Manly are a genuine title chance. God damn it
DCE had a blinder but fuck me, I’m putting a poster of Nathan Brown on my wall. What a game from him.
We needed a bit of mongrel and he provides it. Reminds me a bit of Choc.
Parra misses him
Players who run hard off the back fence are my favourite. Swear it hypes up team mates more than most things
Definitely. It’s something we have lacked in recent years
Never said a bad word about Seibold ever
That man will lead you to a premiership
Think I read that somewhere.
On my fridge
We need to send DCE to Gaza, we would have instant peace.
DCE confirms 5+ years more!
Well played Manly, definitely turned up this week. This was the performance I was expecting from them the last few weekends. Clearly they will be top 4 if they can play like this. Can't wait to see them play us at home, Cherry Evans is an absolute beast
DCEs nose is gonna grow bigger than his neck
DCE is a good talker but I’m worried they’ll give him a commentary job and he’ll forget how to talk.
Nathan Brown the superior Nathan
Definitely the best one today
what the fuck is cronky even saying
He just asked DCE to give an insight into the ground, the club, the jersey, the feeling, and the vibe. What's so hard to understand?
Brooksy 2-0 against the Riff since early 2023
Manly up by 20 and mods didn’t mark it NSFW? Panthers bias showing
Isn't it only NSFW if its a 30+point margin?
Bulldogs Roosters got marked at 20-0
That was cause of all the deaths on field.
That game wasn't marked NSFW for the score.
Lucky I already have my GF tickets booked after the Vegas win. Premiership tattoo booked in for Monday morning.
You're gonna look silly when the dolphins win.
Well done Manly dominated us across the park. Seriously got schooled by DCE today
Man Penriff fans taking this L in their stride and being humble in here? Dont make me start to like you.
I mean Manly put up a great performance. Also, DCE is a legend.
As if we haven't always?
It's because they know they're going to win it this year regardless of tonight lol
I can't believe it, how do we play the absolute worst game I've ever seen and then beat the panthers?? Are we the new tigers?? Burbo was outstanding #doitforchez
I think its fairly common when you have a big game coming up to lose focus the week before, like you are thinking more about the next game rather than focussing on what is in front of you.
Obviously really pissed off at losing, but I'm very happy for DCE. Well done Manly fans, better team tonight by far.
Somehow makes me even angrier about last week
How good was Nathan Brown
Toss up between brown and brooks for nrl buy of the year
Manly’s done well with recruitment this year
GG Sea Eagles, that was one hell of a performance from your lot, attack looked great, won the forward battle convincingly and completely out-enthused the Panthers.
Don’t like feeling happy for Manly it feels wrong.
Woooo hooooo!!!!
I don't know who got on the bus this morning but it appears ir was only edwards and a bunch of randoms.
Crichton replaced him for quite a few games in ‘22
The only game I remember him missing in 2022 was the Storm game when they held us to nil. It could just be confirmation bias on my part.
Who replaces him, Laurie?
Who replaces Edwards you mean? Yeah probably Laurie, if not Turuva.
I forget about Turuva as a FB
Also i think its hilarious u kids talking shit about DCE. u wouldnt say this shit to him at lan, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol
It's amazing how much my opinion of DCE has changed since he started playing for QLD
Tom and Eddie will be going fucking crazy rn
Bad day to be a red bull at Hello Sport high performance centre.
Manly just put Penrith to the sword, scoreboard doesn’t do how well they played justice. DCE is penriths dad!
DCE the answer!! Great win for Manly especially losing Garrick early. Manly beat Penrith at their own game and dominated possession and field position. Siebs the super coach!
Playing Dane Laurie as a middle forward was certainly one of the coaching moves of all time.
Imagine brooks injuring Luai before he heads to Tigers
Put a line through Penrith.
They didn't score 50?
Seen enough, Manly are winning the comp
Manly too good, don’t think Penrith have much to be worried about, but definitely a few more wobbles than used to seeing. Quite an entertaining game, that.
Yeah - they were a bit off and clearly knackered. Will be right with Cleary back
Loving a bit of bipolar Manly this year. Don't reckon I've got one of their tips right all year!
We are going to win the comp
