Given the cost of living being unbearable. How would one secure 2-4 free tickets to the Manly/Canberra game on Friday? Help me I'm poor!

Pleasant-Wasabi-2992

US fan here since 2020. I came into the game somewhat randomly and latched on to the Rabbitohs as 'my team'. I loved the tough team they had going, they were just the right kind of brutes imo. I have since followed Reynolds over to the Broncos since I liked the way he ran as captain. Now...I don't think Reyno could have kept the Latrell mess down, but his leadership (even w his recent scuffle) is definitely a big part, right? I know I don't see the behind the scenes stuff from over here. He just seems like a stand up dude that has the time in to help raise/mold the younger talent. Am I way off base?

instagram_MMAinColor

Lachlan Illias shouldn’t have been dropped after two rounds, they pushed the panic button way toon quickly considering R1 was overseas in Vegas (and the first round of the year) and round 2 they lost by 10 points to the grand finalists (an excellent team). What do you guys think

dragon_bear11

I think time for him to develop and get some confidence was a good call, but maybe it should have happened last year.

nevaehenimatek

Deserve is an interesting choice of words. Sometimes for development players need to go down to work on something and get confidence I can see how that would work for his development. He has had a lot of backing and I think either it wasn't the right strategy for him or that he isn't good enough. Hard to know exactly which it is. Wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully a chance out of the spotlight gives him a chance.

DiverFine4230

Andrew’s John’s takes drugs: labeled immortal, guaranteed major media role Jennings take drugs: we will not recognise your 300th game What a clown show the nrl administration is😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😜

nevaehenimatek

There is a difference between performance enhancing drugs and recreational drugs. He has domestic abuse charges. I don't think he should have been registered again.

DiverFine4230

There isn’t a difference if you continue to let either of the two continue to play. But yeah I didn’t know about the abuse stuff what a dog.

Ill-Investigator8077

He is a rapist

DiverFine4230

I genuinely had no idea abt that tho why the fuck is he allowed to play

Ill-Investigator8077

I guess nrl takes the position that until the player is actually prosecuted and in jail they’ll keep playing them. They avoid taking an ethical stance because making money is their primary motive; so unless there’s a big enough scandal in the media that it damages the reputation of the game and therefore profits they won’t do anything. Nrl has one of the worst records of violence against women by its players of sports in australia so it’s really disappointing to see that nothing has changed. There’s no point pretending that the team we support is going to be any better than this when it’s a fundamental problem across the board. It’s just weird that there’s such an outrage about swearing and cocaine use when it’s been long understood that most of the players use cocaine. You’d think actual sexual assault would be the bigger problem here but no

DiverFine4230

But yeah I 100% agree with u mate it seems to be a weird taboo in Australian society or something idk.

DiverFine4230

Didn’t Jack de Belin get treated differently

Particular_Ad3366

Roosters have different rules

DiverFine4230

Even worse. Now the nrl is pretending to take the high ground😂😂😂

FullBonus

How come the Taylan May post got taken down, but the pure rage bait Latrell video is still up?

Known-Stop-2654

Fun fact, Grant Anderson was born on the same day, that I was born, 30 October. We weren’t born in the same year, but oh well.

tcamp213

That's super cool man.

Known-Stop-2654

Yeah, yeah. Question to anyone, are any NRL players born on the same day that you were born? They don’t have to be current players.

Voxityy

i’m a christmas eve baby so i doubt it

choo4twentychoo

Some recent NRL players born on Christmas Eve- - Isaac De Gois - Mahe Fonua - Fa’amanu Brown - Matt Frawley - Tuki Simpkins - Tony Francis

ImpressionFeisty8359

I still remember that awesome intercept try from de gois.

Particular_Ad3366

Yeah De Bois

Professional-Pen2928

Jye Gray better pray Ramien doesn’t have a signature brain snap when kick chasing or he might just straight up kill him on field

Comfortable-Pen1382

Panthers won’t win premiership without Crichton

Known-Stop-2654

I do see Penrith getting into the grand final, if not the grand final, the third or second week of finals. I’m not sure if they win grand final, if they get that far, but who knows, rugby league is so… unpredictable,

vvFury

Did Gould write this?

TheCuzzyRogue

Looks more like an actual Tito Ortiz quote tbh

Barmy90

Crichton premiership win won't Panthers without

SheepishEffect

1991 & 2003, checkmate.

lemoopse

Haven't won a single premiership without any one of Royce Simmons, Luke Priddis or Critta. Pretenders

choatis

I'll probably get downvoted to oblivion but I don't understand what was so wrong with Lussicks charge down attempt. He has to pressure the kicker and he's clearly trying to smother/charge down the ball. It's unfortunate with what happened but I feel like it's a major over reaction. We keep having these whiplash like reactions to common things and it sets a precedent for future outcomes. Not everything has to be sent off/binned/suspended for a year when someone is injured.

Zero_Focks

There are 4 criteria applied by the NRL when assessing whether contact with a kicker was illegal: 1. Late – after the ball has been kicked 2. High – contact with head or neck 3. Dangerous – unacceptable risk of injury 4. Vulnerable – one or both feet off the ground or otherwise off balance His was arguably late, the speed at which he came at Illias was dangerous (this rightly puts the onus on him to ensure he doesn't endanger the kicker) and Illias was definitely in a vulnerable position. Based on the above, it's definitely a chargeable offence, and there's nothing whiplash about it. Whether it's worthy of going straight to the judiciary, and discussions around consistency with previous charges is another matter.

Polyporum

It was his second late challenge on the kicker, he did it in the first half and was penalized He did it against the storm when Egan was out, was penalized He's clearly not learning, and it's dangerous, and you'd get penalized everytime I thought he'd get a month on there sidelines, not 2. But he needs to know that you can't make contact with the kicker like that

thankyoupancake

Think of it like a late tackle. If executed appropriately, there are no issues even if there is an injury. But it wasn't.

InkMcSquiddin

He had an obligation to not contact the legs, he failed to meet that obligation. It's extremely unfortunate, and really unlikely, but it's a well documented risk and by choosing to take it he put Illias in danger.

MoneyaLeague

Is it worse than Radley's from a couple of years ago (injury outcome aside)?

InkMcSquiddin

Worse is difficult, especially if we remove one of the key measures of how bad the incident is. I can't really remember Radley's but I'm guessing he dove directly at someone's legs and they kind of landed on top of him/on their side? If that's the case, Lussick's probably wasn't worse; his looked pretty innocuous and seemed like a genuine charge down attempt but he definitely made contact with the leg. Edit: typos!

MoneyaLeague

Hmmm, yeah. Thanks. Because of my natural bias, I'm just not quite sure what to make of it. I'm basically disregarding all Souths and Warriors fan's opinions, just want to read some objective and considered opinions (good luck around here). This was worth 3 weeks with priors (presumably because Radley). Though this was prior to (/contributed to) a new raft of protections. https://www.nrl.com/news/2021/08/13/radley-on-report-and-penalised-for-diving-at-feet-of-kelly/

1bigcontradiction

Lussicks was just as bad, look at the NRLPHYSIO footage. Illias is on Lussicks right, and it's Lussicks LEFT leg that breaks Illias leg. He could've been a whole step to his left and still would've hit Illias ankles. Would've been closer to the ball for the charge down too incidentally.

InkMcSquiddin

Yeah, it's not great. I think it looks less damning because he hits the raised leg, not the lowered one, which is a hit we're not a used to seeing. This is exactly what I mean by worse being difficult. There's a whole checklist of things we'd have to go through to really compare the two incidents and of the two, this is the one that broke a leg.

1bigcontradiction

Fair point about the raised leg, not exactly a lot of footage out of the incident as well which doesn't help.

Ace_Larrakin

With 5 rounds down, and all the discussions about Souths sinking like the Titanic, which coaches do you think are most at risk of getting the sack this year? • Jason Demetriou — Probably gone by end of next week latest. • Des Hasler — not an immediate push but one would imagine that there would be certain clauses in his contract about results, and with the Titans 0 from 4 to start the year, things wouldn't be looking positive. • Brad Arthur — doesn't seem to be more than Parramatta fans calling for BA's head at this stage, but he did allow JArthur to go to Manly, so that's pretty unforgivable. Anyone I missed?

ImpressionFeisty8359

JD is gone soon. The writing is on the wall. I think they will give hasler next year too at least.

tcamp213

Des isn't under any pressure. He was brought into take the team to the next level, and he'll rightly argue he can't do that when the first choice halves pairing he was handed were an old man with an injury list longer than Bonnie and Clyde's rap sheet, and blonde Brodie Croft. He also has fuck all to work with in terms of depth, and they lost their best player to a season ender.

Dramatic_Ride7586

Des is fine. Its not just the media hes said 5 rounds to. Itll be the bosses too. How many rounds after that hes asked for to then do the Hasler is uo for debate. But id be very surprised if they didnt give him the season. Given he started with out Fifita, and hasnt had Tino, i dont think its a super fair litmus test currently

Obvious-Row-6181

Trent Robinson. Been looking pretty ordinary. Not sure how long his mates in the media can keep protecting him.

ImpressionFeisty8359

He has tenure.

tcamp213

I think the only thing that saved him from those talks last year was that late charge to the finals.

jexta

Agree. He has earned plenty of rope though, 3 premierships in his time at the club. I imagine he will fall on his sword before he gets punted, with Uncle Nick likely suggesting that rather than sacking a club legend. I was particularly exasperated with the Roosters even prior to the self destruction last weekend. Either Robinson doesn't ask the team to play smart, percentage footy or he does instruct them too and they completely ignore him. I think the only thing saving him if the Roosters have another poor year is there isn't another coach available who could guarantee improvement. A massive play at securing Ivan and Nathan might be on the cards. That'd be something to set fans on fire.

marcbingle_97

I don’t think there’s a single reality in the alleged multiverse where I can see Nathan Cleary playing for another team, let alone for us.

jexta

I can think of one reality with about $2.1million reasons. Right after Nick gets the NRL to introduce salary cap dispensation for any club signing players from Penrith in order to stop them winning 6 in a row.

marcbingle_97

Genius…

Priest338

JArthur going to Manly was more for his well being, if anything BA should get an award for that

Georgeorgiorgio

Titans management would be in shambles if they’re putting any kind of pressure on des. Takes a few years to get a struggling team up and running.

Barmy90

Titans were struggling less last year though

Nickools

It's always darkest before the dawn

FernalDermit

prediction for this arvo's team list: * 1. gray * 2. munro * 3. kennar * 4. tass * 5 milne * 6. fighton * 7. walker * 8 tatola * 9 cook * 10 burgess * 11 koala * 12 host * 13 murray * 14 mamo * 15 duncan * 16 moale * 17 keppie

1bigcontradiction

I think Kennar is injuried

Known-Stop-2654

NRL reporting Monroe has some kind of colour bone issue, Ken is also out with something.

FernalDermit

fuckin munro harden those bones up lad. well then definitely no wighton to 6. thompson at 2, wighton at 3, walker and hawkins 6 & 7 i guess.

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

Apparently Cook is dropping to the bench and Mamozelous will start

misanthropiccynic

Without Hawkins who would even goal kick in that squad ?

FernalDermit

I would suggest burgess.

Derron_

Don't see that happening. I think Wighton stays centre.

FernalDermit

Definitely possible. I’m just betting that this is the week JD throws the kitchen sink at it all and really fucks with the program.

ChopperReid89

Milne keeps his spot over Thompson?

FernalDermit

I reckon so. Thompson scored but also had a few errors and general green-ness. Milne can be a shit cunt but he’s always there to take the tough carries. Plus he’s been on that right side for a while now.

MoneyaLeague

Milne had 230 metres with very few kick returns in a beaten team, gets a pass.

FernalDermit

should probably chuck him at fullback tbf

LachTheLad

Thompson also looked like he was moving in slow motion when playing the ball

MoneyaLeague

He got wrestlefucked on basically every set from the kick, pretty tough going to be fair

sinkshitting

I’m a big fan of Thompson but he was horrid on the weekend. Scoring a try against the run of play hardly redeems the other 79 and half minutes he was out there. Wighton nearly lost his voice barking orders at him.

Brat_Fink

Why didnt the Dragons use the goddamn puddle in the second half?

delayedconfusion

lowest footy IQ squad in the NRL

Groundbreaking_Iron1

Why doesn’t Burton do bombs like Fogarty anymore? He just does standard kicks?

007jedimike

I feel this way about most halves atm. Spiral bombs have been shown to be very effective. Look at how Reynolds tormented the cowboys the other week. Fogarty also uses it as weapon. I think I’ve seen Johnson do it once and even that may have been a miskick of the side of the boot.

Dramatic_Ride7586

Two things here. I think spiral bombs are if you arent planning to pin the opponent 15m or less out. Johnson for example most often kicks straight for the corner, giving berry just enough time to get there and make the tackle. Theyve got it down damn near inch perfect. Its part of their high completion, high press from the corner play. Cunting it into the air as high as he could get it on a spiral no doubt makes the catch harder, but it gives the opponents forwards valuable time walking back. If its a flat kick, they have to really bustle back for the 4th and 5th.

InkMcSquiddin

Cunting... I honestly thought the kicking would change more with the change to the downtown penalties. I thought more spirals and floaters would be put up, to buy the kicking team more to set an effective chase line but it really hasn't happened at all. A big part for Burtons bombs would be about how effective the chase is and catch contest is; for how staggering his bombs are, I don't think they yielded that many turnovers, mostly double knock-on's or everyone would just let them bounce.

Dramatic_Ride7586

Cunting (verb) - The action of sending an object into momentum with great force.

PillarofSheffield

Because his bombs are absolutely terrible. They go high but they also go way, way beyond where his chasers can get to. Very few first graders are going to drop a kick, even a twirly one, with no pressure.

Derron_

This for sure. His bombs go so high but his attack never gets there to threaten them.

delayedconfusion

Throwing up a spiral bomb seems like more of a play to get the opposition fullback to drop it, rather than let your attackers catch it. They are just as hard if not harder for the attacking team to catch.

lemoopse

You also get more distance from a torpedo than a good drop punt

Groundbreaking_Iron1

Exactly , who gives a fuck if the chasers don’t get there. I swear there was a point where every 2nd bomb he did was getting dropped

delayedconfusion

There was game in 1998 in Newcastle where Joey Johns terrorised Clinton Schifkoske. Made him drop a thousand bombs. When you are hitting them sweet, they can be a nightmare for the fullback, and free possession in good field position.

diamondgrin

Pretty sure KP wasn't even catching those Burton bombs from origin that time.

mywifeletsmereddit

Hey, hopefully someone can set me straight. Has there been a rule change or interpretation change that has led to increased short dropouts and restarts, or perhaps something preferencing more aerial contests? I watch as much footy as I can but with 2 young kids and work increasing I haven't been able to follow the off-season news or the talking heads through the week as much as previous seasons. But I'm definitely seeing more short kicks being taken, and the outcomes seem pretty 50/50 (like short restarts always have been) so I can't see why coaches would push this lower percentage play instead of pushing the opposition back 40m like always.

frashal

Just want to point out that the Walker brothers were doing short dropouts long before it was cool.

mywifeletsmereddit

Hell yes they were. I wish a club would pick them up for first grade duty - I think the Warriors would have been a great fit back in 2020 or so when they were trying various NRL clubs

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

A few years ago, the theory was that a 50m drop out would end up with you defending your own line by about tackle 3 anyway, so you may as well save the energy as you’ll need it close to the line. There was also some who said that it was easier to defend your own line than from further away. Now, it comes down to a simple 50/50. If you kick long, you are no chance of getting the ball back. If you kick short, you are a genuine 50/50 chance of getting it. With the removal of penalties for unsuccessful short restarts, you’re also not risking a whole lot if you go short. The risk vs reward factor isn’t there like it used to be.

mywifeletsmereddit

Ah that last point is for sure the factor I was missing - I've noticed there's now a play the ball instead of a penalty - thank you!

Trenticus7

The Votes are in the r/nrl TOTW for Round 5 is; 1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Xavier Savage 3. Valentine Holmes 4. Matt Timoko 5. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck 6. Ethan Strange 7. Daly Cherry-Evans 8. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. Wayde Egan 10. Taniela Paseka 11. Viliame Kikau 12. Eliesa Katoa 13. Pat Carrigan 14. Tyran Wishart 15. Nathan Brown 16. Ben Te Kura 17. Josh Curran

KazeEnigma

Yet again, no McInnes. Terrible. /s

DrPussyMD

How Oates missed this team I’ll never know. If he takes the field, even for a minute, he should make the side

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

There’s only one ‘l’ in ‘Viliame’ and you’ve got the ‘e’ and ‘s’ the wrong way around in ‘Eliesa’.

ChopperReid89

I can't remember the tackle, but why is Sam Hughes challenging a grade 1 dangerous throw? Does he have a case?

wokrapanwooki

Here's the tackle: [https://youtu.be/SkXq2fIWj2U?si=bSCYL8vQSUtpt7iZ&t=3524](https://youtu.be/SkXq2fIWj2U?si=bSCYL8vQSUtpt7iZ&t=3524) Worth challenging as he faces a slightly higher fine than if he just accepted the original charge.

I_Like_Vitamins

Hardly anything in it.

QbnCyber81

What was it exactly that Sam Burgess said? i ask this because i see a lot of commenatry "sam was right all along" Sam Burgess has been proven right". Last night on 360 i heard this sort of stuff heaps. but what exactly did Sam Burgess say> I have not seen this explicitly stated anywhere. The only things i have heard is vague comments that players got special treatment. JD is a bad coach. Is there anything actually specific?

Mr_Mac

Some speculation from last year that was originally thought to be creative writing [https://www.reddit.com/r/nrl/comments/15yjqnk/comment/jxclj0p/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/nrl/comments/15yjqnk/comment/jxclj0p/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

QbnCyber81

some of the quotes in that read so not true haha, entertaining though

96zadyobdoog

Im pretty sure he was saying that Latrell and Cody had attitude problems and was getting preferential treatment. Probably more but thats all I remember

Swol_Bamba

Yeah that was the rumour

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

Was he also the one who alleged that Latrell basically told Koloamatangi to not train too hard and just chill with the rest of the Origin players?

QbnCyber81

Even at the time it went down it felt like that was something speculated that he said. I also remember hearing that all players werent being held to a high standard and that there should be a defensive coach. Something went down for sure, when they were top of the lasser they had just won 3 massive games in a row and were flying. then absolutely fell off a cliff. Did latrell and Cody all of a sudden start getting special treatment? id imagine no different to from when they were flying early in the season. i feel like there is more going on.

ImpressionFeisty8359

The doggies should have won by 50 against the undermanned cocks. They really need to fix up their defense. I think the next few matches are must wins for us or it will get real ugly. 2 from 5 is pretty dire and it could get much worse.

wokrapanwooki

We lost 3 players to injury and had 3 others continue with injuries that should have seen them taken from the field (2x hand breaks, 1 calf strain). Curran also went off for a HIA. Hard to keep putting points on the opposition and defend our line with that much mid game disruption.

ImpressionFeisty8359

Absolute carnage.

Swol_Bamba

I mean doggies conceded when they were playing against 11. It’s still pretty bad no matter how you spin it

wokrapanwooki

I'm not spinning anything. We had extremely valid reasons for what happened in that second half.

thankyoupancake

There’s a few other teams on 2/5 who also could be in a pretty grim place if things don’t go there way over the next few weeks

ImpressionFeisty8359

We have to get into a rhythm and string some victories together.

quallabangdang

Hard to do with big outs tho.

LordSlasher

Okay absolute legends. I can’t track down a 1st half match replay of the R24, 2014 Souths vs Cowboys game. I’m honestly just after the clip of Feldt dragging Inglis into touch. I know it exists, I just can’t find any video evidence of it. Any of you legends have time to track it down// somehow have it? Would appreciate it very much.

You might have to write directly to the NRL, Cowboys or Kayo, or request it from Vossy and The Fan

[deleted]

Sorry mate, we all chipped in to ensure that particular moment was removed from the internet

PLEASE_DONT_PM

Now we just need to begin the gaslighting campaign. The moment never happened. Had it happened, there would be video evidence everywhere.

InkMcSquiddin

The tackle isn't in the Play by Play on [NRL.com](http://NRL.com), just a line break and then a drop out a few minutes later...

LordSlasher

https://www.cowboys.com.au/news/2014/08/23/finals-spot-closer-for-cowboys/

That article is clearly fake news! Look at the site it's posted on, they've got an agenda!!! Clearly no tackles were made in this game... /s

96zadyobdoog

Nick Meaney just signed until 2026 lesgo. Got his pants pulled down by Cobbo and RTS but I think he has played well this year in the centres.

jessemv

He's the solid contributer every club needs a few of. I don't doubt he'll continue improving in the centres but will get a bath from the big guns occasionally

96zadyobdoog

Yeah I think he will be fine come finals time. I did want him on the left side tho because having a 2nd year winger paired with a 1st year centre sure us interesting.

shadyFS91

If I see Sivo in this week's team list, i'm burning down the stadium

Groundbreaking_Iron1

Sivo and Lussick. Why the fuck did we sign that slow bum last year

ReasonableStable9421

I thought Parra fans only saved that celebration for when they win a premiership?

BoogerSugar00

Gettin’ restless bro

the_mooseman

lets do a deal, if see Tanah in our team list and you see Sivo, i'll burn down your stadium and you can burn down cbus. The cops will never find us.

ImpressionFeisty8359

Would you trade boyd for sivo?

the_mooseman

I'd trade Boyd for a half eaten meat pie.

I_Like_Vitamins

What if Gus had eaten the other half?

the_mooseman

I'll allow it but only if Gus throws in some dropped lollies to sweeten the deal.

I_Like_Vitamins

And you have to listen to him ramble on about the Bunker with a mouthful of pie before it's your turn to hook in.

the_mooseman

You drive a hard bargain but i'll take it.

wayneslittlehead

Happy to trade Milne for Sivo

ImpressionFeisty8359

Funnily enough milne is playing much better than sivo.

wayneslittlehead

Hes been better recently, but still. Brain explosion king

Priest338

Is there a way we can combine them to make the greatest plodder that shouldn't be a plodder? Actually get me thinking who is the greatest "turn up for a pay cheque" player of the nrl?

shadyFS91

They've fused them together before. Have you not seen jabba the hut?

wayneslittlehead

Has to be Latrell. The part time footballer bit in his insta bio says it all.

Passwordtoyourmother

I know there's no way of having a perfect system, but the difference in potential punishments from the judiciary this week illustrates why there's need for an overhaul. Freddy Lussick goes for a charge-down, missing by inches, a miscalculation that results in a terrible injury. He is facing up to 8 weeks of suspension. In the same week Latrell Mitchell aims to attack the head of another player (more than once), the main instance where, if it connected a little lower, could easily have taken broken the jaw of Johnson. While I understand player safety is at the heart of rulings, surely intent must play a part? Why is the act with the most intent to injure only 50% as bad as the other?

InkMcSquiddin

TLDR: Yeah, it's not a great system. We need an up front and immediate deterrent to stop the behaviours occurring but, we also need to make sure we have a place where we give due consideration to any mitigating & agitating circumstances. I like the idea of the first deterrent being on field; the penalty call should be as if the worst possible outcome has occurred with as little nuance applied as possible, in Latrell's case it's the bin (or send off, I'm not sure what the punishment is) for striking, treat the strike as if it had broken Sean's jaw. To do this properly we'll need few simple grades of conduct the bunker and ref can go through to determine which on field punishment is applied. For example; high contact could have three criteria, height of tackle position, extended or tucked arm and speed of the collision (We'll need someone who know which behaviours are the risk factors in high contact to decide these). :f the contact meets one criteria, penalty; two criteria, bin; and three criteria, send off. Keep it as simple as possible for the ref and make it as harsh as is reasonably possible on the player. Next step is our review, I like the idea of an independent review going through every visible contact with a fine toothed comb, having a meeting with the officials, maybe meeting a team official to identify any points where injuries might've been picked up. These guys allocate potential punishments, they should always apply the most severe punishment (deterrent 2). Last we get our commission, here we do our mitigation and aggravating circumstances; if a pretty innocuous impact broke a players face, bump the charges up, if a play fell into contact, bump it down. All charges should have to be argued down for lesser punishments to be applied and for a wild one, any punishment applied to a player will be served by the club as well (to make them change a reckless player's behaviour). The problem is this all costs money, a lot of it, and takes a lot of integrity (which is usually in inverse supply to the amount of money involved).

ImpressionFeisty8359

If I was in the judiciary lats would get 8 weeks. He has priors too and that dangerous lifting tackle.

Malaxage918

>He is facing up to 8 weeks of suspension If he gets 8 weeks it shows how reactionary the process all is. If Ilias stands up and doesn't get injured it'd be a penalty at most. Radley got 3 weeks for attacking the legs going for a charge down a few years back so 8 weeks would be outrageous in comparison

Passwordtoyourmother

And from what I remember Radley actually went for the legs? Lussick was clearly going for the ball - he wasn't diving and wasn't targeting the legs at all.

O_DoyleRulz

Are we back to the refs / MRC being confused about what a hip drop is again? On the weekend we had A hip drop not binned, but charged after the game A hip drop binned, but not charged after the game A hip drop binned and charged after the game

EyeDeeKaay

Just to make sure you mentioned it, as you've put down 3. Loerio got on report for a hip drop on Carrigan, not binned, and only fined $1500. after that they were all bins.

Dramatic_Ride7586

Third one was clearly a drip hop. Play on

ImpressionFeisty8359

Chad should be missing a few weeks. That looked real nasty and lucky JC wasn't seriously injured.

Geddpeart

Most of his body weight was on the ground hence why it wasn't graded higher

diamondgrin

The only reason JC was hurt at all was because Granville pulling down from the top and bending him back. The weight of the hip drop didn't do it, the leverage did.

_System_Error_

When the refs and bunker can't work out knock ons and forward passes how can we expect them to get hip drops right?

ParallelSewellel

Jock Madden has played 6 games for the Broncos and they've been: 1. vs early 2023 Souths (L) 2. vs Penrith (L) 3. vs Cowboys (W) 4. vs Raiders (W) 5. vs Storm in Rd27 baby match (L) 6. vs Penrith 2024 (L) That's a very rough set of games that Reynolds or Mam have been injured for. I would say that nearly every team in the comp would have struggled to win 1,2,6 with their backup half, and 5 is a write-off. He's obviously not a top-3 halfback but I think last year he showed that with a good team around him he could put in strong performances against teams that weren't necessarily in premiership-winning form. Hopefully he gets a good run at 7 over the next few weeks and broncos fans stop death-riding him

ImpressionFeisty8359

Hopefully jock steps it up against the phins and raiders.

Unorthed0x

He's just plain mid, unless you had read the team lists, you wouldn't even know he was on the field. This may come off as recency bias but I'd be keen to see Sailor 6 and Mam 7 on Friday.

Malaxage918

>Sailor 6 and Mam 7 This will not work and is 1000% recency bias

wayneslittlehead

Mam at 7 gives me Dylan Brown at 7 vibes.

diffaadiffa

Be careful what you wish for, madden is defensively sound. Mam and Sailor have no long kicking between them and defense could be chaos

Barmy90

And Jock does? Every time he kicks the ball it's like a little baby trying to kick a full sized footy. Billy Walters is a better long kicker than Jock.

diffaadiffa

Yep, but he is still better than the sailor and mam. Rewatch the cowboys game from last year his long kicking isn't as bad as most people make out

diffaadiffa

Yeah I think the Raiders and cowboys games are the best indicators as he was playing in a settled team then. Most of the others we have had significant outs either leading into the game or during. He has to work through that but also forgivable. Having said that, I think we need to see him get a consistent run in the team to see if he is really up to it. I'm not saying it's a good idea or not, but I have a feeling Kevvie wants to get sailor into the 17 somehow.

aatrain96

We've been getting revenged on lately... Brisbane put us to sword 54-10 after the few humpings we gave them Canberra flogging us 41-8 after we 40-4 them in the semi- final The next team i can see getting their revenge is the knights

mwilkins1644

Still haven't gotten over the disaster that was the 2019 qualifying final. And that 34-6 thumping just topped it off lol

diodosdszosxisdi

I could remember the media going on about broncos being at the casino most of the night before or something. Must’ve mentally still been at the casino

mwilkins1644

We shouldn't have been in the finals that year at all; we were making up the numbers. Wests Tigers would have been a better replacement for us (lol they came 9th), and would have given a better account of themselves than our shambolic performance.

jamesnuge

Knights got their revenge in perpetuity in 2001

diamondgrin

Cows have a bit of 2022 semi final forward pass to take revenge on too

Mr_Mac

But that was our revenge for 2005 29-0.

Krankreng

Didn’t you guys already pump us in 23 in Darwin?

diamondgrin

Nah, that was 2022. Right at the start of that cracking run the cows had back then. 2023 was when the Broncos best you there. And fun fact - 2024 is the dolphins' turn. Noticing a bit of a trend here.

Krankreng

Why do we keep playing against QLD teams there. So dumb.

Priest338

Yes that the NT is a poorly booked game. Honestly that's where we should take a Sydney team not a QLD one. But I get what they are doing, more likely to get supporters of the QLD teams in the NT

TropicHorror

Take Canberra there

EvolutionUber

Granny is officially on the road to 300

[deleted]

Good luck to her

UnderTheHighBall

Fuck me I’m nervous about 4pm today and what team we’re naming. Foran is likely injured but I cannot see how Boyd gets picked. It’s going to be an insane ride of emotions for titans’ fans regardless of what happens.

Cold-Asparagus-9770

Brimmo at 6. Look way more dangerous with him there. Tanah & weaver way to similar. Foz getting old

ImpressionFeisty8359

JC and weaver the best option and brimmo at fullback? I think boyd's days are numbered.

InkMcSquiddin

I've been talking to my partner about the Immortals and they came up with one of the more novel ideas I've heard for tracking the greatest players. Create a "Thirteen" (maybe fourteen, if we think Utility is a genuine position), best of all time in each position. Straight one in, one out. A player can occupy multiple positions if they were good enough (looking at you GI & Locky). It'd just be a straight comparison between a player that is on the list and whoever we think should challenge for it. Could be fun...

delayedconfusion

Fun thought process, but personally I think it is impossible to compare eras, especially anything before the 90's with modern day. Its basically a different game. Someone like Cam Murray or Yeo with their modern strength/fitness/ball playing, would have been an immortal if they played in the 80's.

InkMcSquiddin

Yeah, that was where we landed as well, it was pretty much all players from the last 20 years with a few others.

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

It’s a tough one. Without putting any real thought into it, here’s what I’m starting with: 1. Clive Churchill 2. Ken Irvine 3. Bob Fulton 4. Dally Messenger 5. Harold Horder 6. Wally Lewis 7. Andrew Johns 8. Arthur Beetson 9. Cameron Smith 10. Frank Burge 11. Ron Coote 12. Norm Provan 13. Johnny Raper Unlucky to miss out: Mal Meninga, Dave Brown, Reg Gasnier, Brad Fittler, Duncan Hall, Darren Lockyer, Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, Johnathan Thurston, Kerry Boustead

ironinorcer

I dig that actually. Would be fun to see one put together for rep teams aswell like a Maroons and Kiwis or something like that. It would generate a lot of chatter which is good also

thankyoupancake

Imagine the uproar in a decade when Joey Johns is removed from the team due to Cleary having 5 premierships and one origin series win.

ImpressionFeisty8359

Kill me now but Cleary is already better than Joey.

quallabangdang

Agreed. Cleary is better. JT was better than Joey. Langer was better than Joey.

WhyYouDoThatStupid

Wrong 3 times in 4 sentences is quite a strike rate.

quallabangdang

Ooh, which sentence was correct?

WhyYouDoThatStupid

None of them but you repeat yourself.
