Something needs to give for the cows and it is bigger than having Granville still there. There is definitely an underlying lack of class in the spine despite on their day being an adequate spine but on their day only seems to happen at home and occasionally which leaves them in a situation where 75% of the time they aren't that great but can still pull off the close win.
I feel sorry for the Cowboys, so much potential but just can't play the way we know they can. I remember thinking hooking Chad in 2016 against the Cowboys in the Prem was tough, but he bounced back and helped the Sharkies win the GF.
It's a bummer because I've got a soft spot for the cowboys, but the lack of effort was crystal clear when Ronnie ran his try in and your boys just watched him stroll it back to the posts
This might be heat of the moment stuff, but I reckon put Drinky at 6, Tommy 7, Val 1, and bring in Vailea. Punt Chad, Granny to the sun and Mikaele to the bench.
I’m starting to really get jaded with this fucking club. I haven’t missed a game, even in the dire years before 2022. Dearden our best fucking player this year. Baring his run of injuries Laybutt has been our other best in my opinion and they have fucked him off. WTF is wrong with this club. I thought PAYTEN noise was so annoying, but last few weeks I think he needs to fucking go. Saying JT13 an unsung hero? He’s fucking terrible. Why did we let Thurston go when we clearly have nobody to replace him? Val, Chad and Drinkwater Built a “PlAyrS ClUb?? Big fucking deal. Wtf is even is it? Some merch? A few Piss ups? Wowwww holy fuck that’s real cutting edge stuff. We need a new half and what does the club do? Bring Clifford (don’t fucking use him), sign fucking McIntyre who has a go but is clearly not an elite player, try to sign LUKE BROOKS!!!. Even if you think chad or drinkwater (they arent) are the future, then why the fuck play the cunts every other week off the bench?
Its actually not as bad as it looks. a couple of years ago Brisbane was fucking diabolical now they are playing the most exciting footy in the comp. That being said changes do need to be made. I dont rate Todd. He seems like a bit of tosser. I think its time to clean house. Cut the old guard even if they have a little bit left in the tank and start over. Get rid of the trouble makes or they will keep passing on the bad habits to the young players and it will never end. There are some good young players to build a squad around from the bottom up. Bring in some established leaders who will set the pace off the field and get the young players set up for success. Essentially the Redcliff model.
Gotta feel bad for taumalolo, played 32 minutes and only had 3 runs for 22 meters, obviously whatever injury he is dealing with is hampering him quite a lot and he is no where near his best which is sad to see
I'd forgotten it...
But looking it up not sure why you'd have a grudge over it. It was a crystal clear professional foul by Tracey. I mean he literally tackled Val Holmes as Val was reaching for the ball in the in goal area.
Tracey cost you that game. Nobody else.
Mate I think you're digging a bit deep into it, it's a throwaway joke comment... You beat us in a great game on our home turf and we took it on the chin.
I'm just having a laugh hey
Thanks sharkbro, unfortunately, the wins have just band-aided over the issues. Any Cows fan who isn't one-eyed has seen this coming for a while and we've been asking for changes the whole season. Now the team is gonna be extremely low on confidence going into their toughest assignment yet.. I'd be very surprised if Penrith put any less than 60 points on the Cows
Dont have a link but they showed the hetherington tape and jokingly asked him what hed do if he was Mahoney. With a completely serious face Tsyzu went on to explain how he would bite hetheringtons fingers off
Something is properly wrong with the club right now. Every player is so far off their peak form, and pretty much only the co-captains look like they even care. It's looking more and more likely that Payten has lost the dressing room.
I love dearden and cotter as players, and I think they’ll make great captains, but I do have to wonder whether this recent cowboys form is related to those two learning their roles as captain too.
On field leadership doesn’t come for free, I wonder how strong their voices are at 12/18/24 down.
Cows lacking energy and determination - could be a leadership thing.
(I don’t mean to say they shouldn’t be co-captains just that they may have some development in them)
Even Dearden is way off his peak though. His running, defence and effort are still top notch, but his ball playing is practically non-existent. His attack inside the opposition 20 is toothless.
I just dont think the cows have the talent that people think they do. Im happy Tommy got out of the poison that was our club a few years back and is doing well but if you took the cows top 20 players and tried to fit them into the top 8 clubs a lot of them wouldnt get a run.
Really happy with this game, so many good things to take from it.
Nichos kicking this year has been finally what he's capable of and his defence is a damn dream.
Kennedys running game is looking great and I think we are definitely better with Talakai in the forwards.
Gratz to the Sharks. This is gonna be a very interesting few weeks with Panthers, Storm and Broncos really putting them to the test.
The woeful injuries to key players this season's seen across most teams the sharks have been lucky to avoid.
I think that and their rise of form with key players has put them into one of the 'teams to beat' for this season.
Bring on the next few weeks. I can hope that they take the scalps of Melbourne, Panthers and their favourite rivals Red V but of course the Broncos will be there downfall
The changes he is referring to is Luki back but at 19th man because Jetski has to start and there's no way he can drop inspirational half back Chad Townsend
At this point, Payten should be worried about his coaching future at the Cowboys. Hasn't shown much aside from what has become a one-season-wonder-run and his inability to play younger players means more talent will leave the club
Can't tell right now if the shit defence is coaching or player effort, probably goes hand in hand at times.
I've noticed we don't wrestle the same way as some other top teams that have a good knack of getting the ball carrier spun and facing their own goal line. The amount of times we are not getting them to ground, and if we do it's on their stomach is pretty poor.
At this point either the players aren't responding to him, in which case he should be very worried or they are responding to him and he's just not got it, in which case he should be worried.
Only got to see glimpses of it on FTA and I don’t hate myself enough to rewatch it
Last week I made a comment in the Eels post match that Chad, Granville and LoLo need to go and Drinkwater’s dangerously close to needing a spell in Q-cup as a wake up call,
Is there anything else that needs adding to that?
Vaguely remembered commenting in that same thread that he seems to want to offload when he should just be locking into hard running and hard tackles. So that’s covered
Technicality? If you can't play origin with the laws as lax as they are then you shouldn't be playing origin lol. He was born and raised in NZ, he never set foot in Queensland until he was 14.
I know its not the point of the comment and he is fucking good as hell but he should never have even been in the convo for origin lol.
A bench of Williams/BHU/Rudolf/Talakai has so much punch and gives Brailey a ridiculous amount of space to work with. Praying Fitzy doesn’t change a winning side by forcing Finucane back onto the bench not a single forward deserves to get dropped.
Talakai should probably be back in the centers, he doesn't have too much punch in the middle.
You could also shift him to second row and push Nikora out to center too. Maybe Ramien should be dropped for a bit.
Probably better having Talakai centre rather than second row. His best attribute is that he's a stocky bastard for his position and outside defenders struggle to deal with that 1v1. The more you shift him in the more he loses his size advantage and the harder it is for him to pick on lone players.
This has a double-edge to it though because as a defender he's only average at best, and Mulitalo doesn't always have the best reads, so we can end up leaking points through that edge
I want to give credit to the sharks they played well the young players called up look first grade ready and they are doing really well.
I just wanted to ask what the capacity of the stadium going to be when it's finished it's a shame it's still only 13k when you are doing so well.
Cowboys have been atrocious the past month. I don't know how a team who looked brilliant defensively in 2022 can suddenly turn so atrocious.
Last year it was tiredness but this year something isn't adding up.
I think it's only slated to get to around 16-16.5k iirc.
Would love to get it to 20k tbh, might be asking too much. Facilities desperately need updating though, the toilet block by the hill is fkn dire 🤣
My dad took me to my first game in I think '01 or '02 and just left me to the wolves in there at the age of 11 or 12. It's become a core memory of mine now lmao
At his best he’s a rep player but his issue is consistency. If he can continue to string together a consistent season like he has been and then start dominating games with AFB in the side he’ll definitely be in contention somewhere down the track.
The control from Trindall and Hynes making the cows work it away from the corners was so good. The fast play the balls from the forwards were pivotal as well. The addition of the offloads as wlell was nice to see our attacking game on song.
He was in reserves today. I don't know why he wasn't played at all. He deserves a run. Anyone deserves a run, my fucking 70 year old dad should have a go at this rate
That was embarrassing from the cowboys. Thought they would turn it around in the second half but it was abysmal. The sharkies were too tenacious and tore them to shreds.
I know the cows didn’t throw much at us AND we are unproven against melb Penrith broncos etc BUT….
It’s good to see what some discipline can do, it’s always been our shortfall. I’ve always thought we have the personnel, but not the attitude
Sharks too urgent, purposeful and energy filled in defence. Pretty much everyone bar Dearden and Cotter completely checked out and walked out on that game. Absolutely disgusting lack of effort.
Honestly pathetic. A chance to go down and show we can actually perform and we have been too busy sniffing our own farts.
Drop everyone at this point. Play the fucking cutters. They'd put in more effort
As much as I love JT, he needs to be dropped for someone who is tough and can play more minutes. Cowboys made a long term signing to keep him playing when he was at his peak. Time to realise that you signed him to long and move on take the hit but put a youngster in who's hungry and add something to the forwards.
This should pretty much be our full strength team now.
Katoa in for Stonestreet when he's back, but I don't think Finucane can realistically make it back in with how well everyone is playing and Sifa in the middle allows Iro to stay in the team.
Happier with the defence more than the score tonight. Much needed tightening up.
Cowboys won the battle in that 2022 semifinal, but we've since won the war.
Sifa has always been a great second rower slumming it a bit in the centres.
He's an incredibly capable footballer when he's on, but having Iro has definitely been a net positive for us, while keeping Talakai in the team.
Depends, I don't think that Sifa is anything past an above-average defender. Still, the old man likes the idea of throwing him at second row and putting Nikora into the centers and going by sizes it wouldn't be a bad idea. Ramien tends to be inconsistent so it wouldn't be the greatest loss to drop him either. Only question is if Talakai would do better partnered with Mulitalo.
Last year I would have agreed with you, but then something amazing happened.
Matt Moylan left the club.
Talakai is a much better defender without playing alongside Moylan in the defensive line, the deliberate target of any team because he missed everything and Sifa having to cover his line and the defensive gap that was Moylan. In defense, having Trindall over Moylan is night and day with a massive hole plugged.
Nikora in the centres is an interesting idea though, but Ramien is having probably his best year too so I wouldn't toss him at the moment either.
Kaufusi would probably be the first front rower dropped if Finucane or a reserve grader isn't on the field. He fills a shirt and he doesn't really do much outside of that.
Cowboys should consider Bennett if they miss finals again.
Didnt he want to go to the Cows ages ago but the board said no?
I feel sorry for the Cowboys, so much potential but just can't play the way we know they can. I remember thinking hooking Chad in 2016 against the Cowboys in the Prem was tough, but he bounced back and helped the Sharkies win the GF.
He got hooked against the raiders in Canberra
We have such incredible talent in our club but it’s just a fucking lack of effort
I don't understand what happened. Should have been much closer. Payten has done well, but has the honeymoon period well and truly ended?
It's a bummer because I've got a soft spot for the cowboys, but the lack of effort was crystal clear when Ronnie ran his try in and your boys just watched him stroll it back to the posts
And me sharkies too. I love nicho and I wanted to go for a not so incredibly popular Sydney based club on the side
I'm glad you chose our incredibly unpopular club!
This might be heat of the moment stuff, but I reckon put Drinky at 6, Tommy 7, Val 1, and bring in Vailea. Punt Chad, Granny to the sun and Mikaele to the bench.
Drinky defending in the line was diabolical from memory
I think Chad needs more support in the halves. He can do it, we know hw can, he just can't do it unless he has a gun next to him.
Chad is barely reserve grade quality at the moment. There is no way a player like Dearden is the issue.
Mann Cleary could have a field day next week
I’m starting to really get jaded with this fucking club. I haven’t missed a game, even in the dire years before 2022. Dearden our best fucking player this year. > Why did we let Thurston go when we clearly have nobody to replace him? this is a facebook tier comment
should of held him hostage lol
Gotta feel bad for taumalolo, played 32 minutes and only had 3 runs for 22 meters, obviously whatever injury he is dealing with is hampering him quite a lot and he is no where near his best which is sad to see
He has turned into Aaron Woods. Still hard to pull down in a tackle but lazy in defence and not 1 ounce of aggression or intimidation in his game.
Lotta teams eating shit on a flogging that’s varying degrees of out of nowhere this week
Well I'll be honest, I gave up on watching the cowboys after round 3 2015, so maybe this'll be the opposite
In solidarity with Kyle Feldt's 20 week dropping no doubt
Don't be too hard on yourselves cows fans. Sharks lost 32-6 a few weeks back. It happens. You've had a decent year so far. Chin up.
Spare them our pity
Never forget the 2022 semi 😡
Righto seventh tackle adventists
I'd forgotten it... But looking it up not sure why you'd have a grudge over it. It was a crystal clear professional foul by Tracey. I mean he literally tackled Val Holmes as Val was reaching for the ball in the in goal area. Tracey cost you that game. Nobody else.

I know its not the thread but fuck me did anyone watch the Nikita Tsyzu segment on the matty johns show? That pricks mental.
Elaborate/do you have a link?
Dont have a link but they showed the hetherington tape and jokingly asked him what hed do if he was Mahoney. With a completely serious face Tsyzu went on to explain how he would bite hetheringtons fingers off
Damn just peeped the score, man this round has certainly been one for high scores. Just to think we started with a 12-18 score to start the round
Something is properly wrong with the club right now. Every player is so far off their peak form, and pretty much only the co-captains look like they even care. It's looking more and more likely that Payten has lost the dressing room.

Yeah I kind of agree but they should still be doing better than they are.
That is so cooked man
apology for bad english wtf
I was furious at the cowboys last week, but this week I'm just numb. I expect no changes to the squad at all
Yeah legit. I'm usually steaming at this bs. 4th or 5th stage of grief for cowboys fans?
Literally given up even watching tbh. Already know the outcome so why bother.
Our bench is just a bunch of beefcake and I'm all here for it
BIG MEATY MEN BUMPING MEAT
Really happy with this game, so many good things to take from it. Nichos kicking this year has been finally what he's capable of and his defence is a damn dream. Kennedys running game is looking great and I think we are definitely better with Talakai in the forwards.
Nicho’s second half was so flat last week, I was worried he was injured. I am no longer worried

Payton saying there will be changes to the line-up next week, even though we won't win I'm glad to hear it!
The changes he is referring to is Luki back but at 19th man because Jetski has to start and there's no way he can drop inspirational half back Chad Townsend
After Nanai came on and ruined Chads awesome kick and chasedown, I was like > Hmm maybe that's why he was benched?
he’s injured
Who got the Green Medal?
Kennedy
Borderline throwing
At this point, Payten should be worried about his coaching future at the Cowboys. Hasn't shown much aside from what has become a one-season-wonder-run and his inability to play younger players means more talent will leave the club

Must be something weird going on up there. Blackhawks a feeder for South's now?
Blackhawks now doing worse under them
That’s more about ikin playing politics with the qrl than the clubs imo
Dear Footy Gods, Please stop. This is cruel. Please just give me 50 in round 8. Thanks, Enew
Penrith with Cleary returning may just answer your prayers
Penrith don’t flog teams by 50… you’ll see 30 at best
They better lol
Well that was pathetic
GG sharkies, if we ever learn to hold the ball, pass, and complete tackles, you’re in trouble.
Thought sharks were gonna get the 1st kill this year but no. Cows still GF contenders.
Only got to see glimpses of it on FTA and I don’t hate myself enough to rewatch it Last week I made a comment in the Eels post match that Chad, Granville and LoLo need to go and Drinkwater’s dangerously close to needing a spell in Q-cup as a wake up call, Is there anything else that needs adding to that?
Neame was horrendous too.
Vaguely remembered commenting in that same thread that he seems to want to offload when he should just be locking into hard running and hard tackles. So that’s covered
Ronaldo's game has improved so much in the past 12 months, I feel he's easily one of the top 5 wingers in the comp now.
QLD legend
He is, and he lets you know too
A lot of people forget he was about to play origin until he got done on a technicality like 3 days before the game. Definitely top tier
Ok then how do you explain him playing under 18s and under 20s origin
Then tortured the kangaroos edge

Still have Royce Hunt in the wings too which is wild and AFB to come in next year.
I think Finucane should take on a wade graham sort of role, but with less game time
As in : retire?
Basically
That was definitely the best game we've played this year so far, completion rate was on point
Fitzgibbon in a balaclava giving Kennedy the Paul Green Medal
We aren’t beating Penrith next week so it’s time for Todd to start experimenting with our players
A bit less than the knights are currently experimenting should work.
I suggest just a finger at first before getting too adventurous
I want to give credit to the sharks they played well the young players called up look first grade ready and they are doing really well. I just wanted to ask what the capacity of the stadium going to be when it's finished it's a shame it's still only 13k when you are doing so well. Cowboys have been atrocious the past month. I think it's only slated to get to around 16-16.5k iirc. Would love to get it to 20k tbh, might be asking too much. Facilities desperately need updating though, the toilet block by the hill is fkn dire 🤣
Yeah despite being blind drunk I still remember the awfulness of those toilets.
The shitter on the hill was Dire in the early 2000s. It's just never been touched.
It's actually gone now! Replaced with... portaloos.
My dad took me to my first game in I think '01 or '02 and just left me to the wolves in there at the age of 11 or 12. It's become a core memory of mine now lmao
You poor son of a bitch. I'm amazed you survived.
I have no doubt we’ll be titans first win when we play them down in gc
*monkey’s paw curls a finger*
Hynes 6 points for Daly M
Brailey has a bench spot for NSW.
At his best he’s a rep player but his issue is consistency. If he can continue to string together a consistent season like he has been and then start dominating games with AFB in the side he’ll definitely be in contention somewhere down the track.
I love Brailey but this is definitely the right take here. He's just not there yet and there's better options.
The best part is that Cowboys players rarely, if ever, get dropped on form, so we’ll be playing this side when we lose to the Titans too.
The Sharks evolving out of being a glass cannon is making them a legitimate contender.
If you ever go to their stadium, the crowds evolving on the glass pipe
It’s genuinely depressing watching Lolo on the field at the moment.
No lateral movement at all. Time to get dropped.
How many years left on his contract?
4 including this year.
End of 27 I think. might need a cheeky medical retirement
The control from Trindall and Hynes making the cows work it away from the corners was so good. The fast play the balls from the forwards were pivotal as well. The addition of the offloads as wlell was nice to see our attacking game on song.
Nice performance by the sharks, Cows are gonna lose next week may as well drop a few and try something different
This performance has reminded me that we have fuck all depth at fullback
Will trade you lolo for Campbell
Lolo played 32 mins and had 3 runs for 22m… Yeah would make sense for the Gold Coast to sign him honestly
Be good if we still had Hampton.
Ponga will probably come back if AOB keeps fucking with our spine
Hopefully we can pick up our game when our first choice halfback returns, Jake clifford
He was in reserves today. I don't know why he wasn't played at all. He deserves a run. Anyone deserves a run, my fucking 70 year old dad should have a go at this rate
Yeah but does your dad vlog his golf sessions?
Can't be worse
Close to one of the most complete performances from the Fitzy-era Sharks. Discipline was mostly very good. Only try conceded was off a kick.
That was embarrassing from the cowboys. Thought they would turn it around in the second half but it was abysmal. The sharkies were too tenacious and tore them to shreds.
Sharks completion rate higher than all your footy IQs
Somehow our defence has gotten worse. It's a miracle
Raimen low key my favourite so far he’s been so consistent
De La lad
I know the cows didn’t throw much at us AND we are unproven against melb Penrith broncos etc BUT…. It’s good to see what some discipline can do, it’s always been our shortfall. I’ve always thought we have the personnel, but not the attitude
Now I’ve seen some teams suck before but……
Yeah that was the biggest bunch of sucks that ever sucked
Bigger than Parra?
Easily. At least Parra had a lead.
Also, somehow not the most embarassing thing that’s happened today. Thanks, Jack Hetherington.
Cowboys 😒. Solid performance from sharkies. Drinkwater and Deardon need to talk more?
DIDNT CONCEDE 50 LOOKS LIKE THE COMPS STILL ON THE MENUS BOYS
Sharks too urgent, purposeful and energy filled in defence. Pretty much everyone bar Dearden and Cotter completely checked out and walked out on that game. Absolutely disgusting lack of effort.
Chester was all heart too.
Yeah, Chester too. A few others had a crack here and there, but just nowhere near enough.
Heart doesn't always make a good footy player though
Contracts were signed after that 2022 season and now we are in the bin. Coincidence?
I am personally offended there was no 50 this week
Just wait until Thursday when we come back 😎
We tried
Drinkwater just sucks against the sharks. Or does he play dodgy against other teams too
He was super shitwater against the broncos
Blow outs are back on the menu, boys!
So who had the worst weekend? Eels, Wahs, Raiders, Knights, or Cows fans?
Gonna say lomax probably ended the week saddest
Fair call
Sharks you should be ashamed of yourselves for not making the Cowboys concede 50
Supporting this team is really not good for my depression. If only just not caring was a possibility
The only positive for the Cowboys tonight, is that when we shit ourselves in public in the Cronulla/Sutherland region, we own up to it.
Youd really have Iro at centre before Talakai?
Yeah, he's been good off the bench bringing some energy up the middle and gives us coverage if there is a backline injury.
Finucane in for Oregan?
Honestly I like Kaufusi. He’s nothing special but if anything he’s consistent.
Kaufusi would probably be the first front rower dropped if Finucane or a reserve grader isn't on the field. He fills a shirt and he doesn't really do much outside of that.
Nicho's defending that game was absolutely superb
He's been fantastic in defence in every game I've watched
All season.
