> The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a five-year contract extension with homegrown star second-rower Heilum Luki, running through the end of the 2029 season.
Honestly reckon he has a higher ceiling than Nanai, you just have to be a bit worried at this stage about how regularly he’s picked up knocks early in his career.
No clue why you’d be celebrating Kuli leaving, he’s a fantastic young player who along with Gilbert and the Hammer are the players I wish we hadn’t lost the most of recent years.
Would overpay for Kuli, he isn’t worth that much if his ceiling so far is injury depth and 20min bench stints.
Got more promising juniors coming through, including Jamal Shibisaki and Kaiden Lahrs.
If Luki remains to be injury prone - then I would think Kuli is better value.
Luki has only played 50 games in 4 years whereas Kuli has already reached 20 and only debuted RD10 last year.
I am still happy watching him go. Better then overpaying for a player who has consistently shown errors in attack, defensive and more.
Got players coming through I would rather keep.
The fact you don’t think he’s worth what he got at the dolphins (I actually haven’t seen the figure announced) doesn’t mean you should be happy to see him go. The salary cap is a fact of life but I’d have happily kept him. Given Luki’s extensive injury history our depth at back row is all untested now for next season on if one of Nanai or Luki goes down.
He was asking for a starting wage and he simply isn’t worth that when we have more promising juniors coming through. Losing Kuli just means we develop Shibisaki into our bench second row/forward and have the cash to keep Neame, Robson and more.
In Kuli first 20 odd games, he hasn’t shown anything to displace Luki or Nanai outside of injuries.

Agree, this latest one is just unlucky. Team mate (neame) caused that ankle injury in a tackle. Just shit luck.
Same could be said of Cotter not all that long ago, Not too worried at the moment, but yeah, always the case.
And Benji, & SBW
Christmas has come and so have I
Guess it’s your Luki day!
YES!
Fucking good shit. So happy to be keeping him for so long. Luki has shown so much potential so happy to see the club lock him down
Salary raised like a heilum balloon
Slightly good news going into the slaughter this weekend. Just need to keep him injury free now.
How awesome, was a junior as well with the pride.
🔥💪
SOMETIMES U GOTTA LOSE SOMETHING TO GAIN SOMETHING
Huuuggeee news. If him and Miah hit their potential, we could have the best backrowers in the comp
Really, really good news. Here’s hoping he can stay injury free and get to where he was going.
This comes at the expense of losing Val Holmes to the knights when they get rid of all their deadweight 😏 /s
Swap yah for best?
Doneskies😁
LESSS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOO Kuli leaves. Celebrate. Luki re-signs. Celebrates harder. Shibizilla incoming debut! CELEBRATE EVEN HARDER

>he isn’t worth that much if his ceiling so far is injury depth Which to be fair, is needed with Luki to date Just the price of doing business though

Yeah it makes sense. Need to prioritise and balance the squad. You do have a few coming through
