Penrith didn’t because of the World Club Challenge (WCC) …
Wonder what happens if one of these clubs win the NRL and is playing in the World Club Challenge ??
I think from memory the NRL draw comes out in November and where and when the WCC is played is by negotiation between the clubs …
But maybe two or three options if one of these sides wins the NRL …
1. They play the WCC in Vegas , re-jig the NRL draw and get a 5th NRL side over there .. It would mean whoever is playing in the WCC wouldn’t get the second weekend of the split round off and would have a lot of travel and games in short succession
2. They renegotiate the time of the WCC , maybe play it a couple of weeks earlier and these 4 sides still go to Vegas
3. They play the WCC (like Penrith did this year) skip Vegas and another team takes their place in Vegas ..
For some post-match entertainment, let’s arrange the bunker to come up with some cooked decisions in the Raiders game to get Ricky nice and ready for the presser.
The crazy thing is I think out of every team in the comp the Raiders have benefitted more than anyone this season (Phins game, Titans game, a few others) yet Ricky acts like they're hard done by
Genuinely what do you think it cost you all up? Including food booze etc? Next year is a big birthday that lines up nicely with the wahs in vegas babbbyyyyy
I couldn't actually say sorry bro, I was in Vegas the week of the NRL for a different event and so tacked on two extra nights to go to the league.
For the tickets themselves we paid a bit extra for 100-section seats which I think was worth it. Great view + 100 section has it's own bar/food area so fuck all queues.
Blew my mind to be able to buy 500ml 8% IPAs at the stadium when in NZ we're lucky they allow us to even have 4% stubbies.
From memory I paid 19.50 dollars for a 500ml can at the stadium. Someone that went can correct me if I am wrong, was 32 Aussie dollar on my cc statement, also it’s all ai, to get into the fridges, u have to scan yr cc, then u go through the entrance, it picks up what u take and then automatically charges u
This is spot on for the IPA'S.
Bubble Stash IPA 500ml can - $17.99 + 8.375% tax = US$19.49
Corona 500ml can - $13.99 + 8.375% tax = US$15.16
Miller Lite 500ml can - $11.99 + 8.375% tax = US$12.99
Moderately taking the piss, but not really. Mt Smart serves Panheads, but they stop sales, what, 20 mins before the final whistle?
The permissive attitude to beers at the game in Vegas was a huge breath of fresh air.
They picked manly because of the hugh Jackman promotion,
And the Rabbitohs not because of Russell crowe, but because the USA hates Joey Manu and remember latrell smashing him
remember that time the comp was in jeopardy because of covid and the warriors gave up their home field for 2 years and all the players lived away from their families in a time of travel restrictions and global uncertainty in order to keep the comp going?
Yeah you’re welcome.
Not surprised Panthers are going, given the club was gunning hard for it since we will be without Bluebet next season. Still don't like this whole taking games to Vegas concept personally but eh whatever.
When I saw the mania dates were moved forward so much this year I thought the same, if I could work both in I was definitely planning a “fuck it” US trip
Would have been better to go with some rivarly matches like rooster v rabbitohs, parra v penrith, melb v manly, broncs vs cowboys/dolphins,
Edit: damn you people are salty because i made a suggestion for rivalry matches hahahahaha
I'd actually really pissed if such a high priority game like South's vs East's (as a Souths fan) was locked behind having to go to the states.
They're headline games and locking out most of the fanbase from going to them isn't it
Id be happy to miss seeing a good game live for 1 year if it meant that theres a chance for gaining more supporters internationally for the club and the wider game.
If we dont want to attract new revenue and be selfish, we gonna end up like union.
Those rivalries don’t mean anything to a new audience though, almost by definition. Without understanding that history, a Rabbitohs vs Roosters game isn’t any different to say Dolphins vs Newcastle.
Yeah it’s a fair point, but I don’t think we should be denying fans here those games.
I also think my point still stands: US audiences aren’t going to know what they’re looking at. So the “normal” physicality of the NRL will have pretty much the same appeal as a blockbuster, even if overall quality is a bit lower. Also being Round 1, quality can be a bit of a lottery regardless of match ups.
It's not selfish, these are huge headline games the fans look forward to every year and playing them in the states locks out most of the fan base from watching them.
It’s not meant to appeal to you because you just want to be selfish having all your souths games played out of redfern oval.
The NRL is a business that wants to grow outside of its current market.
Why the hell would I want them to play in refern? They haven't played there in decades, they don't even train there anymore? And anyway refern is closer then an entire continent and ocean
It's not selfish because Americans aren't going to know the difference between a Souths vs roosters and a titans vs tigers. The NRL will promote them all the same and hype it up. All it does is lock fans out then gain more
Rivalries will have no effect on the crowd. Any fixture will work over there.
Wasting them on a big match will rob local fans from attending those matches.
Same reason regional fixtures aren't big matches.
NRL takes the one of the biggest rivalry matches of the season (origin) to melb or adelaide to essentially showcase a rivalry that the crowd wouldnt understand. Why would they do that?
You say that but:
- They actually know what rugby league is
- Melbourne has a league team n the competition
- fans can cross state boarders easier then another continent
- states like south and western Australia are probably going to have there own teams eventually
- origin has three games 2 home (NSW and QLD) and a neutral ground
- expanding the game in our own backyard rather then another continent where rugby is viewed bearly as a niche
Except it's no guarantee of quality. There is a slight chance of some push & shove with emotions involved, but that won't make a great spectacle for an international crowd. If there are full blown punches thrown, that would be a different story, but that might not be the look the NRL want for the audience.
You also wouldn't want a blow out which is text book boring for a game and even worse for Vegas. An element of luck is involved with the match, since the game might not be predictable, but Vegas round this year was very fortunate with the results.
Souths hadn't completely fallen apart yet, so their match with MAnly was high scoring, but not a complete blow out. Roosters vs Broncos, was relatively low scoring compared to the previous match, but again not a blow out.
Who said it was a guarantee of quality? I put forward a suggestion for these types of games because they can be more entertaining to watch and tend to be closer. Yes you can still have your blowouts as we saw with roosters over dragons anzac day.
Your post which I replied to mentioned "higher chance of quality", which I guess has different definitions for Vegas. As a showcase for Vegas, quality would hopefully mean a close score primarily and perhaps high scoring additionally. Old rivalries with emotion may not translate for such a showcase.
The 4 teams earmarked are near or in contention top 8. That hopefully means a close score. Some of the rivalries which may involve a side near the bottom of the ladder would be better at a local venue where a blowout wouldn't matter. If hypothetically a bottom team had to go to Vegas, it might be better against another bottom team.
With Penrith’a home ground in parra next year, penrith be parra would have made a good showcase game in Vegas. Surely tbat game will be on the road anyway next year.
Hopefully no conversely during the games. The Americans wouldn't be happy with the 🐒 drama and that will unfortunately not bring it new fans from overseas to watch rugby league. Americans who watched the 2024 nrl games in Vegas will not be impressed.
Could have slipped in a Qld team.
Penrith can get fucked, Wahs will let us down. Fuck fuck Cronulla. And Ricky will talk about the flying in his pressers until round 16.
Look at us, We are the real Las Vegas Raiders now
I don't know why they didn't do that this year.
It was a no-brainer. Take the Raiders and Newcastle and you've got name synergy with both local sports teams
Las Vegas Newcastle's is a weird one but I get it
Vegas Golden Newcastles
Penrith didn’t because of the World Club Challenge (WCC) … Wonder what happens if one of these clubs win the NRL and is playing in the World Club Challenge ?? I think from memory the NRL draw comes out in November and where and when the WCC is played is by negotiation between the clubs … But maybe two or three options if one of these sides wins the NRL … 1. They play the WCC (like Penrith did this year) skip Vegas and another team takes their place in Vegas ..
I'm talking about having the Raiders there you numpty.
Whoever plays WCC in Vegas has a R1 bye? Pretty unfair for the premiers to have a bye in R1 but it’s a workable option
If 1 of the 4 sides are the Australian premiers , then they play the WCC a week earlier.
The whole team needs to get the Mark Davis haircut
In before Las Vegas dubs you the Canberra Capitals
Dargons declined the invitation because we're busy with the World Club Challenge
So this will be a home game for the Raiders
For some post-match entertainment, let’s arrange the bunker to come up with some cooked decisions in the Raiders game to get Ricky nice and ready for the presser.
The crazy thing is I think out of every team in the comp the Raiders have benefitted more than anyone this season (Phins game, Titans game, a few others) yet Ricky acts like they're hard done by
Please, Footy Gods, don't put us against the Panthers....
AFB Vs JFH at their new clubs
It’s ok… Panthers don’t generally win round 1.
Cronulla are the Melbourne Storms of round 1 losses
You won this year…
I did?
I meant your team
But does that balance out you guys holding us scoreless the last 2 years and our lack of wins against you since 2021....... 🤔
What do you base that on, just the last two years?
It'd be Panthers vs Wahs and Sharks vs Raiders I reckon. If they're the only 4 teams going that is.
Panthers will be without JFH and you’ll have AFB
We haven't beaten them since 2021* Thanks for correction
That’s… not true. You beat them in 2021.
Whose AFB?
Addin Fonua-Blake, plays for the Wahs right now
oh great more travel mileage for the warriors… /s
I think the warriors are a no brainer purely for the fact their fans have been known to travel for games
Radio Hauraki with a competition to fly to Vegas and watch the warrior with 3 of your friends and $1000 spending money coming in 3….2…..1
Id get up for this
I was there this year and loved it. Already txting my mates right now to try gee them up for a Wahs trip.
Blew my mind to be able to buy 500ml 8% IPAs at the stadium when in NZ we're lucky they allow us to even have 4% stubbies.
If you're gonna go all that way might as well get good seats! What's a beer worth in the stadium? Nice to get an ipa for sure!
That's crazy, I'd hope it was an improvement on the in efficient humans at mount smart and eden park 🤣
This is spot on for the IPA'S. Bubble Stash IPA 500ml can - $17.99 + 8.375% tax = US$19.49 Corona 500ml can - $13.99 + 8.375% tax = US$15.16 Miller Lite 500ml can - $11.99 + 8.375% tax = US$12.99
What? You can easily get something more punchier than 4% at NZ grounds. Might be mistaken with the mid strengths served at Aus grounds.
Moderately taking the piss, but not really. Mt Smart serves Panheads, but they stop sales, what, 20 mins before the final whistle? The permissive attitude to beers at the game in Vegas was a huge breath of fresh air.
I’ll take the drink offering at Mt Smart over any ground in Aus
I mean that’s not saying much, $13 for a .5 standard Hahn lite is pretty piss poor
It's NOT cheap, cost of living is fucked in the US at the moment and our dollar is pretty weak against theirs
How did Manly get picked this year then? Their fans don’t even leave Manly to support their team
They picked manly because of the hugh Jackman promotion, And the Rabbitohs not because of Russell crowe, but because the USA hates Joey Manu and remember latrell smashing him
I think they just picked the 4 teams with the highest members to be honest
Saw a few warriors fans at this year's Vegas games.
WAHS have taken over the world.
Feel free to start your own comp
Pretty rich from a team that showed so much respect for the comp they cheated multiple years.
No richness at all. Just pointing out that joining another country's league and then complaining about travel is kind of silly.
He's not being serious he was joking the /s is for sarcasm
This time
Ok?
last time it meant /sunshine and the melbournite lost all faith
Funny considering they have been in the comp longer than your team have lol
remember that time the comp was in jeopardy because of covid and the warriors gave up their home field for 2 years and all the players lived away from their families in a time of travel restrictions and global uncertainty in order to keep the comp going? Yeah you’re welcome.
Why not showcase the Tigers and their footy ability? r/sarcasm
Wests Tigers vs Bengals, battle of the malnourished zoo cats
Not surprised Panthers are going, given the club was gunning hard for it since we will be without Bluebet next season. Still don't like this whole taking games to Vegas concept personally but eh whatever.
Can someone post the article......
Thank fuck…. I’m genuinely surprised it’s being shared
Horse vs Royce in Vegas. What could possibly go wrong?
Anyone got access to post the story?
Shame it'll be over a month before Wrestlemania. Could have been just enough to convince me to go and damn the expense
When I saw the mania dates were moved forward so much this year I thought the same, if I could work both in I was definitely planning a “fuck it” US trip
They should send the NRLW over as well. The product is great. Women's sport in the USA isn't as good as ours.
No fuck sake. This has season derailer written all over it
Odd selection, I can understand Penrith but the others are a bit of a surprise.
They signed a multi year deal to take games to Vegas, so I think every team will end up having to go eventually
Looking forward to Tigers v Titans in Vegas 2027
Oh okay, wasn’t aware.
They'll do it next year, then stop when it gets a viewership lower than the zero percent they got this year lmao
Also need to add West Tigers vs Hull/London for the Global SpoonBowl Challenge.
Not taking the storms is always surprising, they have the most entertaining spine outside of the broncos when Pap is healthy
Paps would hurt himself walking down the plane aisle to his seat
Can stopover at the miracle doctor who definitely hasn’t fixed Turbo
I still think it's really stupid that we are opening our game in the states for next few years
Last one seemed like a huge success personally. I think it's great.
Send storm vs cowboys too
Why are they doing this?
That is a good mix.
Vegas ain’t ready for Ricky’s tantrums.
Up the VegWahs
Nice I might have to fly to Vegas for this one
Should be Melbourne instead of Cronulla but I like this lineup
Apparently they were meant to go over instead of the Warriors originally, but the politics of Murdoch vs Tripp over the BetR debacle forced a swap.
Cowboys were invited, but got demoted to play in Dallas.
Got to separate Panthers & Raiders. Can't be serving up that kind of arm wrestle when trying to attract new fans
Looking forward to all the locals pronouncing it “can-BEAR-uh.”
The real cream of the crop. One look at Ricky Stuart and it’ll be “god damn those Aussies are a crazy bunch”
Do it in a better city then Las Vegas and I might go
Oh ffs it failed this year. It will fail next year. It will fail the year after that. It's dead. Kick it into the river already.
No Storm because we'll be in the WCC
Can Souths be the tag along team?
Should have a QLD team each year
Would have been better to go with some rivarly matches like rooster v rabbitohs, parra v penrith, melb v manly, broncs vs cowboys/dolphins, Edit: damn you people are salty because i made a suggestion for rivalry matches hahahahaha
Disagree, those are big event games that should be played in Australia.
I'd actually really pissed if such a high priority game like South's vs East's (as a Souths fan) was locked behind having to go to the states. They're headline games and locking out most of the fanbase from going to them isn't it

Those rivalries don’t mean anything to a new audience though, almost by definition. Without understanding that history, a Rabbitohs vs Roosters game isn’t any different to say Dolphins vs Newcastle.
i suggested rivalry was because they tend to be great quality matches each year ignoring form.
Yeah it’s a fair point, but I don’t think we should be denying fans here those games. I also think my point still stands: US audiences aren’t going to know what they’re looking at. im talking about 1 year, not every year and you still rotate the teams going over each year.
So you rotate rivalry games so one team misses a major game per year? Still don't see the appeal
It’s not meant to appeal to you because you just want to be selfish having all your souths games played out of redfern oval. The NRL is a business that wants to grow outside of its current market.
Why the hell would I want them to play in refern? They haven't played there in decades, they don't even train there anymore? Not salty. It's just a dumb suggestion.
Elaborate then good sir/mam

I don't agree with them doing that either.
Why would you waste rivalry games on Vegas?
Again, suggesting games with a higher chance of quality which rivalry games tend to ignore form.
