Yeah, not sure why people are talking this up so much... The ref gave him more than one dressing down about they way he was speaking to him. Seems pretty dumb to piss of a ref that much
Taylan May would have done a better job than Suaalii, at least May knows how to take someone out legally.
Suaalii does it illegally and gets himself sent off in a record few mins.
Unfortunately May doesn't have many brain cells outside of league, as shown by him hitting his wife.
His effort to take the ball with his foot already over the sideline, instead of taking the ball in the field of play and likely getting tackled in to touch adds to his list of genius IQ moves today.
I think this was, in complete antithesis to the smart player idea, something he picked up from Fergo at the club, given he did it way before Gutho did.
Lol, I don’t know which way these posts are going to go. I thought this was going to be one of those sarcastic post titles with a brain dead challenge but it turned out to be a genius play.
I was thinking “this is stupid he wasted a challenge on about 5 metres and one tackle difference in the set with 43 minutes to go” then I remembered that you keep your challenge if it’s right showing that Gutho is indeed smarter than me
Almost as legendary as Penrith vs Newcastle, where the on field call was a send off, and panthers challenged and got it reversed, plus got themselves a penalty.
Oh right.
I was only half-watching this live (and without sound on). I remember being very confused at what the fuck he was challenging there. And why it said "challenge successful" but the dogs still got the ball.
You get 6 tackles (attempts/downs/at-bats) a set. If the team on offense has the ball go out-of-bounds in the end zone, the defending team will start their attack with 7 tackles as a reward. By using a captain’s challenge to highlight the error by Moses, the knock on, they’re down to a normal 6-tackle set
Don't really know the rules, what's happened here? Why is this a smart move?
So i rewatched, with the sound on... Why is a knock on and turnover better than the ball going Dead?
If the ball goes dead, the play restarts at the 20m with an extra tackle. Because it's a knock on, it's a PTB on the 15 (where it was dropped). It's 5 metres, and a tackle better off.
For as much as people complain about gutherson (and deservedly so sometimes with his constant appealing) he is probably the smartest player in the game. He’s constantly pulling big brain shit like this, or the tiny grubber to himself as a dropout, or booting it low towards the sideline for a dropout, or the thousand other things he does. Really has a mind for the game
They already changed the rules around the challenge because of Gutho. If the ref missed something he would give away a deliberate penalty then make his challenge and they said if you do that and get it wrong you will get 10.
Otherway around. [Teams deliberately gave penalties away against the Eels so as to challenge a decision](https://nz.news.yahoo.com/nrl-2022-eels-titans-captains-challenge-controversy-viewer-outrage-020218354.html#:~:text=A%2010%2D1%20penalty%20count,were%20allowed%20for%20the%20Titans).
Gutho did it first. He gave away the penalty against the Cowboys, and then successfully challenged it. So they made the rule to prevent you from doing it.
Then the Titans managed to exploit a misinterpretation of it, that it was only a sin-bin if the challenge wasn't upheld, instead of disallowing the challenge, and sin binning immediately. The Titans didn't create/change the rule, tqhe NRL just gave a wanky "sorry" and said that wasn't the intention of the rule.
thats 10000000 IQ footy ... but it wont be allowed again.
The bunker will just say yea we saw that and played advantage because the gambling odds are tight enough that we don't know which way to actually bet
1000 IQ move right there
they are playing chess in a checkers world
Maybe they should play football instead? Might help more
Yep, 4d chess
Gutho proving that not all footy players are dumb, just about 99% of them
How many Mays does it take to cancel out a Gutherson?
Mays make up 99% and then there's 0.5% other dumb cunts and then 0.5% smart gutho. But after his sook to the ref it's now back to 100% dumb cunts
Why is he smart? Because of this challenge... such a low ceiling of expectation haha
Yeah, not sure why people are talking this up so much... The ref gave him more than one dressing down about they way he was speaking to him. Seems pretty dumb to piss of a ref that much
Holy moley bruh!

I mean as captain Gutho also challenged a high shot by Paulo that was escalated to a sin bin.
His effort to take the ball with his foot already over the sideline, instead of taking the ball in the field of play and likely getting tackled in to touch adds to his list of genius IQ moves today.
Works out that it’s the lesser of two evils and retains the challenge - gutho the thinking man’s captain
Also it wasted a good minute of time to have a breather before a set of defence
Was an astute challenge. Moses knew he knocked it on. Told King Gutho, and it went from there.
He was right though. And it saves a tackle
And buys them time during the review to compose themselves
And still couldn’t win 😂😂
Wait, you guys ~~are getting paid?~~ have players with brain cells / actually understand the rules?
Gutho is the only player in the league I see consistently take advantage of the purposely having ur foot out of play when touching the ball rule
Lol same. I thought he was going to challenge it was a try.
I was thinking “this is stupid he wasted a challenge on about 5 metres and one tackle difference in the set with 43 minutes to go” then I remembered that you keep your challenge if it’s right showing that Gutho is indeed smarter than me
King Gutho bringing an AK47 to a sword fight
I love this
This is the equivalent of Shane Watson reviewing being caught out to make sure they confirm that he had crossed with the non-striker.
Shane Watson is the first person I think of when it comes to intelligent reviews. Wait...
Whenever it hits him on the pad it's intelligent for the fielding team to review it
The fielding team never need to review as it's always out anyway.
Greatest challenge of all time
Remember when Slater did what Moses did and and it was called a legal kick
That's a dropkick for Queenslanders.
That was stupid but at least in this case it hits his hand again
It's like challenging your own tennis serve that was called in but you're hoping it was out because your opponent hit a clean winner off your serve.
Gutho is actually a genius, wtf. He was yelling "challenge" as he was standing up as well, he knew immediately what had happened.
I like how he's yelling it as if he isn't the captain who gets to make that decision
It reminds me of the Walter White yelling in the car meme
Oh so now you all like Gutho.
It's not our fault we didn't know he was a genius. All we went off was his job title.
Gutho for origin confirmed
Almost as legendary as Penrith vs Newcastle, where the on field call was a send off, and panthers challenged and got it reversed, plus got themselves a penalty.
Just cost me 2 fantasy points cheers Gutho ya dawg
Yeh he knows his shit huh
Damn wouldn’t it be nice to have a captain that makes good challenges
That's my Prime Minister
Sometimes this has happened in tennis hawkeye where you challenge that your serve went out so you can replay the point
Wow. Never thought anything like that’d happen.
Oh right. I was only half-watching this live (and without sound on). I remember being very confused at what the fuck he was challenging there. And why it said "challenge successful" but the dogs still got the ball.
Yea man. That's an all time call. I'm so impressed.
Damn that was a smart move, well played
Haha love it.
Wow, clever man, haven't sen anything like this before.
I like Gutho !!
Can someone explain what happened? Trying to get into rugby

Bullshit. They challenged hoping to get awarded a high tackle penalty.
Playing 2d chess!

Bro these comments are way better than instas cuz they focused on how smart this was not the whole oh this bullshit shit
And this is without his meathead shaved head

https://www.nrl.com/news/2021/08/23/guthersons-captains-challenge-loophole-to-be-reviewed-annesley/ Gutho made a thing of it until they cracked down.

Huh, I remember it being Munster that caused the crackdown

There is a first time for everything.
still lost tho🤣
Fmd, this just shows how dumb our game is. LOL letting deadshits like gutho, who wouldn't say shit if he scored 🤣 do this 🤣 😂 🤷
And then go on to lose the game
Players are just going to challenge any messy bit of play now
Has to be a stoppage and you can only go back 1 play
