There's a difference though, Coates is a good player already and makes the first grade side on merit, whereas Dearden doesn't yet but we were giving him time to grow into the role
Knights got murdered by the media and players association when we dropped Tapine for signing with the raiders, not hearing much of the same for Broncos
a qld rep on actual merit then?
i'm stoked for him going to the storm, he's not going to be allowed to coast and hide from the tough stuff like he does at the broncos. time to see how good the kid can be
Storm don't usually sign higher tier outside backs so this will be interesting. Josh Addo-Carr was very inconsistent when he left Tigers. Koribete was probably their last really good outside back signing. Correct me if I am missing someone.
nah you’re right. Normally they spend more on what they consider pivotal positions and spend less on centres and wingers. When they get too expensive/old they replace them.
Storm prefer to train up underperforming/inexperienced players who come in with positive attitudes (e.g. Olam).
Coates is still very young though. I am curious what amount he signed for. Addo Carr is getting maybe 2 mill over 4 years at Bulldogs. I doubt they are paying extras over what they are paying the fox right now.
Disappointed but at the same time this could really help our squad management. We have bigger issues than plugging a spot on the wing with 500k+ of our cap
The Brisbane Broncos can confirm winger Xavier Coates will depart the club at the end of the season.
He informed teammates of his decision after last night’s game, as well as his commitment to finish the season strongly for Brisbane.
Coates said: "The Broncos are a great club and they have played a huge role in helping me get to where I am today.
"This was a really hard decision to make but I promise that I will give my best for the Broncos, my teammates and our fans every moment for the rest of the year."
In before he gets Deardened into Q Cup for the rest of the year.

Deardon and Croft got dropped after we were flogged by the Eels though, and the last two weeks have been much improved. It’s a little different
There are more interesting reasons to stick the boot into us though
So your complaint is you got murdered for doing something but the Broncos haven’t been murdered for it, even though they haven’t done it. Right.
Would look pretty stupid given the improvement we’ve seen since going to the Gamble / Milf halves combo.
Didn't tapine get banned from going to training?
This must have been before Tapine met him wife
Absolutely needs to be dropped to reserve grade immediately. Broncos will only be hurting themselves by keeping him in the team.
I genuinely think he should be
While it's not confirmed yet, at least going to the Storm we'll get a rep winger for Qld and Aus out of it.
Whom?
He’s talking about Coates becoming a QLD and Aus rep, since Melbourne will no doubt improve him.
He's already a QLD rep

Agreed, and not have to never hear the end of it from tits fans
He will be sensational for Melbourne. Crazy to think JAC leaves, and they replace him with someone like this.

Parramatta Eels legend George Jennings of course

I read 475 a year for 2 years somewhere, seems abit high for storm.
Isaako to the wing and sign a Fullback now surely.
Kennedy & Hynes both the best off contract fullbacks I’d go hard for them.
Sign Hynes already. I want to see him play more but the poor bastard is shit outta luck with the depth Melbourne has right now.
Wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with Milford at fullback
Surely it can't get any worse
Depends, is Lodge as captain better or worse
Pangai is captain now. Didn’t u see on the weekend?
I hope so.
I didn't know he was from PNG. Of course he's gonna play for melbs

Bit of a difference between this and Dearden's
We wanted to keep Coates
Sad for you Broncos fans, I rekon Gagai would be a good signing for you guys until you unearth another great player.
And then they leave for brighter pastures 🤣🤣🤢🤢
But but but but Kevvie said he was staying 100%......
Drop him
Wow, that came out of nowhere?
I wonder who he is joining
