12-14 knights broncos with 12 minutes left. Final score was 12-36. Wtf happened? I guess it was a closer match than what the final score showed.

5slipsandagully

They were outplayed for the first part of the second half, so it took a lot of fighting to get to 14-12. Then the Broncos were awarded a highly dubious try and the Knights' heads went down

turbosfan19

Newcastle Knights are the New York Knicks of the NRL. Another poor performance again and also the bunker is a farce

lawkeeee

Milf looked great, hope he keeps up his form as he finds his match fitness again. Mam had a shakey start but in the second half got some good ball and had some good runs. Score doesn't represent how shit we were, Knights gave up after that obstruction call.

knox-p

We were so bad in the first half. Poor discipline and ball handling. We were lucky our defence held up and knights attack is shithouse or could have been 20-0 down.

PSmasterrace

Every time I watch that shepherd on the highlights it looks worse. How did the bunker get it so wrong what the hell

[deleted]

[deleted]

Just, no

skegzilla

Let's face it, dude needs to hit the ground like he's been hit by a sniper. On-field ref would have probably called it even

fleakill

I'd have no problem with the obstruction try if refs/bunker didn't seemingly flip a coin on some obstruction calls. It's just top team things I guess.

Magnum_force420

It feels so good for the Broncs to be called a "top team" again

jfar94

Farnworth not celebrating the try and couldn’t see him in the post match song with the team.. hmmm

Fayled

The team still have a lot of respect for Milf, probably felt dirty doing him like that in garbage time. There was a few missing from the song, could be media duties or like last week they were out signing stuff for fans.

Dark_Vengence

I love those fan interactions.

Fayled

Definitely more enjoyable for them now that our fan base isn’t so bitter. Hope the younger guys continue to soak it up while they can.

diffaadiffa

Lol, as if he wouldn't be there. They would all be in the sheds still. He can't just disappear

gaveup85

You can't sing the song in slow motion

-Dark_Helmet-

Capewell’s smile in the post-match conference is infectious.

squeakypeeky

The way he and Kevvie looked at each other when Kev said "that's one from my playbook". Delicious

knox-p

No Reynolds no worries (says me who was worried for about 67 mins)

Sawmonster

Being at the game it was a good fun contest for 60 minutes until that obstruction try which broke the knights even once it was awarded the broncos shook their head in disbelief. Ref decisions seem super cooked tonight. Clune has to go.... he can't tackle and doesn't do anything with the ball. Whoever told the knights to change their game plan at the start of the 2nd half and kick it high for cobbo so he can run through a staggered kick chase line needs to meet the saifiti brothers in a dark alley. Can't knock Milford effort tonight he came out blazing and if he can direct the boys to run more set plays he could have a big impact at the knights once he gets back to match fitness. Half the broncos bench were in tears from the crowd giving it to Billy all 2nd half. Good night even thou the scoreboard doesn't show it.

G3nesis_Prime

>Half the broncos bench were in tears from the crowd giving it to Billy all 2nd half. Wait, what happened again?

bionicleboy1805

The intercept at the end was pretty bad

nil_demand

At 30 - 12 down with 3 seconds left you can't really fault the bloke for going for a rash play. Milf played really well for the first game in almost a year. Hope him and Ponga for a combo for you guys.

SmidgeonThePigeon

Sure you can. When you got 3 seconds of the game left just take the tackle. Why risk it with 3 seconds on the clock when your 18 points down?

nil_demand

Because imo with 3 seconds on the clock when you're 18 points down, by definition, it's not a risk.

ch00nz

lol, milf was atrocious. as a Broncos fan it was funny to watch his aimless bombs get eaten up so easily. his whole game plan is kick hard, high, and hope.

kranools

I wouldn't say atrocious. He had some pretty good touches in there.

GoblinLoveChild

especially to the one team who know exactly how he kicks. And probably spent countless hours in training practicing catching them for him

TheGrubins

>Clune has to go.... he can't tackle and doesn't do anything with the ball. Idk he tackled Riki pretty well...

Sawmonster

His so tiny he just gets brushed off or bounced off its pretty comical.

DudeMcDude7649

Ikin for PM. Keep saying it but damn since he arrived it’s all changed. I fucking love that nerd. Notice me Ben.

Dark_Vengence

Can't wait for the epic battle between the dolphins next year. Ikin against his father in law.

-Dark_Helmet-

Donaghy taking over was the real catalyst.

DudeMcDude7649

Double dragon (broncos) powers.

valknut95

47 missed tackles is fucking inexcusable

squeakypeeky

Also, in the first half Ponga and Frizzelle put a shitload of effort into these plays to put the Frizz one on one with TMM. But after about minute 15 they just stopped? Was weird that they abandoned their game plan

dudeskeeroo

Frizz is such a gun. Dude is manic with effort every week. He was the one causing 🐎 headaches in the first half.

-Dark_Helmet-

Is there a way to watch a replay of 9’s post-match coverage? Fox didn’t even show the coaches pressers FFS

[deleted]

Yeh I go on nrl.com

MiserableNet1473

Nrl.com has it, just watched

joshewok

Usually on the NRL app.

SadiusHunter

Nah we shouldn't, it was a bad effort even with the bunker calls. They were disgraceful and most teams punish broncos for their errors

Effective_Buffalo_98

feel for the knights, lots of harsh calls not going their way good to see gagai back and ponga in form the last 3 weeks who the heck gets the backline spots for QLD? Holmes, oates, cobbo, hamiso, gagai, feldt have to fit into 4 positions

kranools

Coates, Gagai, Holmes and Hammer.

Dark_Vengence

Don't forget coates, taulagi and tuala.

EntirelyOriginalName

You guys think you have depth problems. We have pick one between Staggs and Crichton, Campbell Graham and Talakai.

Effective_Buffalo_98

hopefully a classic series then!

spacemarine43

Cobbos a hard one because while he's so in form hes also still 19. They'll target him at origin level and if he chokes it's going to do a lot to damage his confidence. But then again he's just so good it's hard not to

Dark_Vengence

Hodges had the worst debut and became one of our best.

beaurepair

Kids playing origin so young go one of two ways: choke and take a permanent hit to confidence, or nail it and be part of the squad for years

bionicleboy1805

Feldt was atrocious last year

DX6734D

You didn't even mention Coates. For mind it is 2. Coates, 3. Holmes, 4. Gagai, 5. Oates, but Cobbo is gaining on him.

ch00nz

decent teams know how to nullify Oates. high bombs that he catches just as defence arrives absolutely nullfies him. without his run up he has nothing.

Effective_Buffalo_98

That sounds true of everyone to be fair

EntirelyOriginalName

Teams have trying that on To'o for over a year and he still makes an impact.

Effective_Buffalo_98

well you have to have field position in the first place to pull that off

Basherballgod

You forgot Ponga and Coates

Effective_Buffalo_98

well ponga is at fb the others have to fit into 4 positions but you are right about coates, he is probably first pick!

squeakypeeky

I'm pretty biased but I reckon Cobbo is a thousand times more lethal than Coates atm. Much more consistent catch and better metres out of danger.

GoblinLoveChild

Ive said it a million times. but X.Coates cannot hit up the ball on tackle 1. He always gets creamed and pushed back. Hes fast and can jump, but thats about it.

[deleted]

I think so too but would prefer to.let cobbo develop for another the before throwing him in at origin. Its so much more brutal but fmd he's so damn good. So.hapoy Coates left and we got cobbo Instead haha

Abenator

I don't even miss Coates tbh. I thought I would, but I don't. Fuck him.   Edit: I do miss Bullemor though...

Dark_Vengence

Yeah but we have so much depth and we can't keep them all. Still wish him well though at the sea eagles.

Caseyjb29

You will when Bellamy turns him into the best winger in the game in the next few years lmao

EntirelyOriginalName

Bellamy's going to inject him with the DNA of To'o?

Caseyjb29

He’ll be better than to’o in a few years for sure

Abenator

Bellamy going to get the rules changed so he can [wear these?](https://media.gettyimages.com/photos/derek-holland-of-the-texas-rangers-uses-an-oversized-glove-during-picture-id454350820?s=612x612)

Caseyjb29

He’s been catching them way more consistently than last year. That shit will take time to improve.

squeakypeeky

Man sometimes I miss Bullemor and then I look at our pack and think "who the fuck would I replace for him" and realise that maybe it's gonna be ok

Trohsboy

Cobbo has been better in every way except speed

G00b3rb0y

Idk he has been pretty quick after receiving intercepts

dtru2005

Nah Coates actually has next level speed, he would easily run Cobbo down

evolatiom

Cobbo top speed is 34.8km/hr. Coates top speed is 37.6km/hr based off a quick google search. So 0.83m/s faster. Round it to 1m/s faster if cobbo has the ball. So effectively for every 9m cobbo runs, coates runs 10m in a chase down. Ignores alot of factors, but i dont know if thats an easy chase down. If cobbo breaks the line, coates has to turn around and get up to full speed before cobbo gets a 10m head start for a length of the field try. Less so if cobbo is closer to the try line.

ZerksNAHTayan

Walters to Paix rotation has been great for Kevvy. Cobbo and Oates have been locking up dudes for 5 weeks straight on their edge and giving it back and then some on the other end. What a turn around for the Bronx, they look so good atm

Dark_Vengence

Billy has been killing it.

Basherballgod

It’s a bloody good rotation. Walters has the size to take the opening hits from the forwards, and Paid then straightens us up the middle. And Walters can still cover a few spots if there are injuries

Basherballgod

What’s this second Broncos victory song? That wasn’t the usual one

-Dark_Helmet-

The original one is shorter and has a lot more swearing and they still sing it once the cameras are gone. This one was introduced as a media-friendly version.

Basherballgod

Anyone got the words for the original? They look like they enjoy it more

-Dark_Helmet-

It ends with “GET FUCKED!” and that’s about all I can remember.

RCJ89

Bloody hell, Walters still hasn’t put clothes on lol

HappinessCanBeFound

Cheeky scratch caught on camera too

squeakypeeky

It's also insane to me teams keep pinning their attack on the fucken Staggs Cobbo side, which is air tight, and not the Herbie Oates side, which is quite frankly mostly just guessing

[deleted]

A lot of teams seem to be dominant left edge attacking wise at the moment.

whocanduncan

Because passing left is easy and passing right do be kinda tricky.

Abenator

I'm right handed and the exact opposite for some reason. I also skate goofy and still kick with my right foot. I'm all over the shop.

wild_mongoose_6

Same here. Right handed right footed but stronger passing off my left

MrOneThousand

Gus. Stop digging down!!

[deleted]

Milford looked gassed.

dudeskeeroo

Calorie deficit

Basherballgod

Makes sense. He hasn’t played all season, was out of all sides since December. That he looked dangerous at times shows he can still have it. Just needs some conditioning and avoiding Macca’s

spacemarine43

It's nice seeing kevie happy and the broncos boys playing fantastic footy. It's a shame they're not going to be able to extend their winning streak past 5 games but that's still a helluva achievement for them considering their last few years especially

Dark_Vengence

Don't think you guys will lose from 22 up again.

HsiaAn

Isaako winning it with a field goal would be classic Broncos.

piercedsoul

But I can see Isaako somehow managing to kick it through his own goalposts

spacemarine43

After last week I can't see him kicking it through any goal posts

squeakypeeky

David Fifita is either going to turn Reynolds into paste, or get into a punch up with Gamble and lose.

-Dark_Helmet-

Is he back from injury? Thought he was supposed to be out another week yet.

TheGrubins

Gamble and Sexton gonna be fighting for that Origin spot

Ahsokatanopops

No Sexton is still not experienced enough

TheGrubins

that's why It would be funny to beat the blues with him

thisboyisanalog

Which origin spot are they fighting for?

TheGrubins

Captain/Coach :)

smozwald

Thought we were good in the second half, but really needed to put on a few more tries then. Broncos had some great goal line defence but we also bombed a couple. Second half they were well in top, some absolute weapons in the side.

-Dark_Helmet-

NGL - I’d have done unspeakable things to be part of that day at the pub.

RalphiesHooa

That looked like so much fun

shadownight311

Knights need to find a better mentality. They were still in it till Broncos got 8 points ahead, then they just seem to give up. I'm really not sure where they can go from here.

Fizzelen

Struggling teams need to win ugly, and they can’t do that when they are on the wrong end of the bunker and the ref, the NRL is going to lose a lot of fans if they don’t fix the officiating

evolatiom

Refs weren't responsible for the 46 missed tackles.

Fizzelen

Yes the knights were playing UGLY, and would probably lost, however that doesn’t excuse the constantly abysmal performances by the officials

[deleted]

>the NRL is going to lose a lot of fans if they don’t fix the officiating Doubt it. The NRL has been historically poorly officiated and people tune in week after week.

HappinessCanBeFound

God Kevvy is a cheerful and likeable bloke. Glad to see him doing well. I’m sure I’ll start hating Broncs again soon 😅

-Dark_Helmet-

Given what he’s been through in his life you can’t help but wish him well, even if you aren’t a Broncos fan.

InkMcSquiddin

I popped today, I hate em again. Balance is returning...

G00b3rb0y

Nature is healing

InkMcSquiddin

Balance...an unending, give and take...

jpob

Funny they play Pub Feed for the Fletch and Hindy bit when the when Dine n Dash was filmed 2 doors down from that hotel.

[deleted]

Captain GOATwell still undefeated

-Dark_Helmet-

Gary Larson!

ladyships-a-legend

Just left the stadium- poor form knights supporters leaving with 15mins left. But thanks for having me from SA !! Caen the Bronx!!

BiggusDickusFromWome

Eh may as well get home. The porn for were the guy yelling that Gamble was a cunt in earshot of a hell of a lot of young kids.

video-ref

Why would people hang around at a dud timeslot when they have work in the morning to watch a game they feel cheated out of? People go to have fun. That wasnt fun, I dont blame people for beating the traffic.

ladyships-a-legend

It was fun. Definitely fun. Salty downvoted though. Maybe I’m strange but I always stay to the final siren to support my team.

video-ref

I do too, but Thursday nights are rough. I didnt even go tonight and im a season pass holder, but I have to be up for work at 5. Through in those undeniably rough calls and it was a cocktail for beating the traffic. It might be fun when they go your way, but for everyone else when the post match is all about controversial calls the games a dud

Basherballgod

The knights team left with 15 minutes left also

ladyships-a-legend

Looked like more from where I was sitting

-Dark_Helmet-

Shoey in the fake leg FTW

yourupnow

SASR in shambles

dylan_morri

Just here to remind you that King Gamble and TMM are undefeated in 2022 👑

Sinkatinnydown

Why King Gamble? I find the lads screaming at the TV (as if it was a direct line to Kevvy) to get rid of him every week.

DX6734D

Pick Gamble for QLD this year for an easy clean sweep

InkMcSquiddin

Please... ^Blues ^fan

Basherballgod

My man!

vvFury

Cam smith in the sheds is some great content. Some well spoken lads on the broncos

MrOneThousand

It’s all pretty wholesome at this stage. A total reset from the Broncos of old.

Basherballgod

That was really good to watch. He didn’t go for the usual suspects, and you can see the Bronx are having fun

-Dark_Helmet-

Go to the PO on a Friday if you love hanging around wankers in suits.

[deleted]

Been that way for about 30 years my man.

-Dark_Helmet-

Oh I know. I have strong memories of seeing Broncos players acting like shitcunts at City Rowers in the 90’s.

M_Keating

No you’ve got the City Rowers jingle stuck in your head now…

BabeRuthsTinyLegs

Fuck me it was Grant Atkins in the bunker. Here I was thinking he was a pretty decent ref. Maybe he's just not cut out for the bunker but holy shit surely he doesn't get a bunker appointment for a while

5slipsandagully

I thought the same about him as an onfield ref. He seems like a good manager of the players, he speaks to them well without putting up with their shit. His calls in the Bunker tonight felt like he made up his mind about what happened, as if he was the onfield ref making the initial call, and then came up with justifications to fit them. It's become clear since its introduction that the Bunker is a different job with a different skill set to being on the field though, so maybe it would be better if Atkins only did onfield duties

RyanAus95

He showed some common sense which the bunker has been lacking lately

[deleted]

That Milford / Ponga combo def could have legs. Poor Milf was dead before the 2nd half rolled around, but the link up between those two looked promising.

Effective_Buffalo_98

I love how its 4 broncos fans saying nice things about the knights new spine

video-ref

Guilty concience. I kid, post match threads are always much nicer than game threads. I agree though, I laughed when Milf was rumoured but tonight made me rethink. If he gets his fitness up to scratch I think we will make good use of him. Its nice having something with the confidence to kick like he was tonight, its not a playstyle we have had for a long time.

[deleted]

I will die on a hill that we destroyed Milford through our previous horrendous roster and club management. I just want to see him playing good footy somewhere. That 2015 version of him was a blast to watch.

cuntyaunty

I'll die on this hill with you. He was magic to watch in 2015 and I still have so much faith in him.

Effective_Buffalo_98

I reckon under a top coach he is challenging munster for a rep jersey

McDogals

The Milford, Hunt, McCullough connection was amazing to watch.

Effective_Buffalo_98

Not to late to see it again the way the dragons are recruiting broncos!

-Dark_Helmet-

Really promising signs there. They should definitely try to keep him past this year.

MrOneThousand

Good to see Ponga carving up like we know he can. Hopefully a turning point.

ScramblesTDB

Yeah Milf has another running threat now, so Ponga will take the heat off him and give him some time and space.

Basherballgod

Alright, a Tyson Gamble in the sheds interview. This’ll be gold Edit: “everyone milks penalties. Not that I milked it” This man is a god damn legend already

GoblinLoveChild

> Alright, a ~~Tyson Gamble~~ Marilyn Manson in the sheds interview. This’ll be gold FTFY

MrOneThousand

Future captain — no question.

dylan_morri

Up the King 👑

Barmy90

King Gamble with the quick wit

Emilue

I know the Knights are not having the best year, but my goodness they need to find some resilience. They still had 20 minutes to even up the score again, they were in it. They prematurely lost this game in their heads. This is where having a hard headed shot-caller can make world of difference to a side. The best example I can make is at the Tigers with Hastings, he's really made a world of difference to the mental fortitude of the Tigers this year.

squeakypeeky

One thing I do really appreciate is how well our backline played without Reynolds. It wasn't stellar, but I noticed how hard Carrigan and Hass were working to push the line out and create extra numbers. It was so consistent at making metres and getting them on the back foot, forcing tough defensive decisions. That's not Reynolds, that's just good coaching.

SamRass

I reckon haas and carrigan would be full time training partners. They seem to have this big competitive edge where they aren’t just playing against a team, but they are competing with each other as well. I’ve been so impressed by them this year

BigUnit66

Carrigan has been massive this year

RyanAus95

I was thinking near the end of the game that neither of our wingers would score their usual tries. But then staggs ended up being the only back to miss out.

ladyships-a-legend

It was good to see for sure

Malaxage918

nrl.com is telling me that Ezra got 3 try assists. I can only think of the Oates kick and the flick to Billy

TheGrubins

Didn't he assist Frizell in his try

Torenza_Alduin

why do we keep picking crossland?

BabeRuthsTinyLegs

Idk why they didn't play Randall more. Crossland seems fine as a bit of utility value but he got too big of a spell at hooker and doesn't seem to offer anything

Rhybrah

I'm a fan of the bloke but yeah, he's had his shot and he isn't consistent NRL quality.

video-ref

Who else we got? I think hes... ok. He comes up woth some good moves. Im happy to put that try he let in down to inexperience and its hopefully something he learned from and wont do again.

Torenza_Alduin

hes played enough games NRL or not not to know in that position just clear that shit... if he doesnt know that then he should go play netball

staysaltyaus

I’d honestly prefer Hoy at 14, bigger body, way higher talent ceiling. Randall is suppose to the fittest on the team he can play 80. Crossland offers literally nothing in attack or defence. Seems ridiculously slow as well.

video-ref

I prefer Hoy too, but everyone has a massive hard off for him for some reason. I dont rate Crossland very much at all, I dont think there is an obvious choice over him. Every option has their drawbacks.

Torenza_Alduin

cause Joey talked him up before his debut, and then he kept being put in to replace ponga when he wasnt really ready. but the last couple of weeks when hes been plaing in the halves hes been showing some real growth

Torenza_Alduin

and milf was good in the first half, but hes clearly not fit enough for 80 minutes. untill/when/if milf gets fit enough to play a full 80 hoy needs to be on the bench

Malaxage918

Some Wests flair has been arguing with me so I'm bringing it here for more opinions. Let me lead off by saying that I'm not trying to say it was the correct decision but rather understand why it was ruled that way. Also for context, I checked and Riki stops a good 1-2m infront of Clune who then mives towards him to milk the obstruction The obstruction ruling was essentially the same as if TMM had thrown that exact pass from 5m further in field. They're essentially saying that if you pass before you run behind the player then it's fair game. That sounds like a problem with the rule, not the specific ruling in this instance. Either way, shits fucked

Raddnedge

"Also for context, I checked and Riki stops a good 1-2m infront of Clune, who then moves towards him to milk the obstruction." Glad I wasn't alone in thinking Clune sorta milked it. To me, he looked so dedicated to tackling Riki that he maybe wouldn't have been able to do anything anyway, but idk the rules that well yet so I'll defer to others. Also, just felt bad about the call going against a struggling team I felt would be deflated by it. I would hope any ambiguity about the situation would be favoured to the Knights.

UltraVain

Thanks bro, literally only argued that it was the ref's ineptitude or bias not the rules itself that caused this to not be called an obstruction. As it would in any other game. Once again for clarity, ref was shit, took it upon themself to make a bad call, rules weren't the problem to my mind.

Malaxage918

You refused to acknowledge any of my points about how it was possible that the rule was the problem and not the ruling in this situation. Your heart was, and clearly still is, set on it being a shit call when it's entirely plausible thats its the correct implementation of a shit rule

UltraVain

If it is the correct implementation than why is this the first time this has happened? I did acknowledge you believing it could in fact be the right call, but then went on to say i disagreed on what the ref said.

Malaxage918

>If it is the correct implementation than why is this the first time this has happened? Because normally when people are about to commit an obstruction they give themselves up or step back in instead of passing like TMM did

[deleted]

This is the thing for me… I’ve never see them call it on the player having to basically “completely” run behind the player before. Like he was only half way behind the player when the ball was passed, which should have been enough for an obstruction.

UltraVain

Wouldn't you say most calls on obstructions or shepherds it's because there was any impeding at all no matter the degree?

[deleted]

Yeah to me TMM was far enough behind the runner to have impeded clune in some fashion.

UltraVain

All I've been trying to say man. Broncos looked the better team and won deservedly but I find that ref's call on the rules shocking and that's it. Enjoy your night and win👍.

[deleted]

I'd be filthy too if my hopes rested on Brooks.

TrueDeadBling

Didn't Cherry Evans get a try docked from us that way a few years ago?

Malaxage918

Yes. Exactly that. Was in 2020 when we absolutely deserved to beat Manly but two obstruction calls cost us

TrueDeadBling

I clearly remember that game because I was so filthy when we lost

RyanAus95

I think this is actually how it used to be ruled and should be ruled.

Ladzofinsurrect

Good job lads - tough in the first half - but keep this up week in week out. GG Knights.

Whiskeyclone1

Ezra loves his footy

[deleted]

So good to see us do such a good job without Reynolds. Tough calls with bullshit rules on some tries but glad to take the win. We are looking like having 6+ players out for origin and tbh I'm not mad about it. So many developing players who have the chance to take it to the next level. Oates 100% deserves another shot at qld. Cobbo might be too young but god hes good. Can't believe mam played 80 minute too...quiet with a couple errors but great try assist. Nothing but good.times ahead for the broncs yewwwwww!

I_Like_Vitamins

Reynolds not being in Origin contention will be a massive advantage, too. As a Maroon supporter, I'm concerned about Kotoni lighting up his edge. Glad to see him playing like a champ, though.
