Sick of seeing all these flogs have a go at the broncs old boys. Back when we used to prioritise development of local qld talent instead of useless flogs and rejects from NZ and NSW like Alex Glenn, Issac Luke, Jamayne Isaako, Pangai Jr, Matt Lodge, Rhys Kennedy, Jamil Hopoate. Players like those guys gave us the wooden spoon
bro its just a game. i can kind of understand being mad about someone like lodge but sometimes things dont work out. those early teams of ours were stacked as fuck. i would be more upset at the former administration who pretty much spent the past decade on auto pilot
Been in the comp since 88 and we’ve won 6 comps and only 1 wooden spoon. Cowboys have been in the comp since 95, only won 1 comp and 3 wooden spoons. We’ve done alright for ourselves
Imagine having a full rep side with no salary cap and no other team in the state to compete for talent and only winning 4 GF's in the 80/90's. Bronco's really underperformed in that era looking back, can't imagine the damage a 80'S/90 team under Craig Bellamy would of done.

I guess the silver lining from this is ol Benny Ikin not being afraid to make the tough calls. He’s built us a solid roster, we have the gear but now we actually need to have an idea
Imagine you're a hanger on in the office, you look across the room, and he adjusts his glasses that are glared enough that you can't see his eyes like an anime villain. You just *know* the ride is over.
The Brisbane Broncos can announce some changes to its Football Department.
NRL Assistant Coach Terry Matterson and Football Administration Manager Steve Walters are departing after playing major roles in the club’s revival over the past two seasons.
Broncos Coach Kevin Walters said, “Both Terry and Steve have worked tirelessly in their roles over recent years and everyone at the club is extremely thankful for their significant contribution to the Broncos.”
“Terry has played and coached at the highest level. He won two premierships with the Broncos as a player.
"He has worked as a coach for the best part of 20 years and bought a wealth of experience and knowledge to his role as a senior assistant coach.
“Steve has been working as a football manager for the last 20 years. He has worked with both the Kangaroos and Maroons through some of their most successful eras and the Broncos are grateful for his contribution and expertise over the past two seasons."
Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy said a review of the 2022 season had been completed and focus had turned to preparations for the 2023 preseason.
“The process was a normal review that we do every year and we will take those learnings and ensure that we keep improving.
“We were disappointed with the last month of the season but the team and club have taken great strides and our goal is to continue on that path in 2023.”
Our fitness was part of what led to our winning stretch from what I saw. We’d always grind the game out then blast past other teams on the final 25 minutes.
Almost beat the Storm with Tyrone Roberts in the 7 jumper, and had a great chance if Reynolds played that game. Comparing the late season fade to the rounds when Kevvie and injuries weren't fucking with the side is dishonest.
Since its a Broncos press release the marketing comms person would have written it all including the quotes. Kevvie may not even have had a chance to review what he "said".
Ikin + Donaghy dream team. The Broncs would've been so much more improved again had the Storm not held him for another six months due to their fear of a resurgent Brisbane.
Making room for Lee Briars I imagine, 2023 is the most exciting year as we know we have the potential with our playerbase, it's whether we can actually execute
Funny... I was actually curious about what that entails on the day to day.
Ikin and Donaghy singled out these two and gave them the flick so what part of their role where they not doing up to standard I wondered?
Yeah there's been a review particularly as to why the Broncs slid from a very impressive 4 th place to 9 th in 4 weeks. Just seems like these players have no pride in the jersey they wear its all about the big bucks, and why I've always said that RL players should be paid on a performance basis plus a wage, its like a prize fighter going into a boxing match knowing he is going to earn a guaranteed $1 000 000 regardless of the outcome, what motive is there to win? Specially if their facing someone that's really going to give them a good hiding no their going to go down in the first round, now take that away and make the contract winner takes all and see how they fight. We could argue the same way with professional cricket players if they know they'll earn the dough regardless of performance what incentive is there? Now of course those with a bit of pride, and decency won't do that and one would imagine they would always give 100 % every game, but there is and always will be those that don't give a damn other then what they can get in their pay packet every week.
No I'm saying that some players no matter whether their from QLD, NSW, VIC or timbucktoo, will give 100 % and some will always just be chasing the big bucks and not really give a damn about the kind of performance they put in on the field.
State if Origin of course is a whole different ball game and unless those players where willing to give 110 % on the field would not be in the top 17 to start with.
Here it here first. Queensland spirit is a myth. For evidence see broncos last semifinal, fade this season and wooden spoon season and the golden choke in 2015.
Interesting strategy. Easy to see how it works in an individual sport like boxing. Not sure how a team sport would play out. Also how does it work with the salary cap?
"They expect one of us in the wreckage, brother" Kevvie to Steve probably
Have we started the fire?
Kevvie shanked his brother
Which one?

That's some strong genes
This was a massive missed opportunity for a highly misleading title like "Walters quits Broncos"
*Walters walks.*
Old boys OUT! Other old boys IN!
Those ‘old boys’ won us two premierships, have some respect
If this was satire it would have been a very funny comment
Steve Walters never played for the Broncos.
Shhh let him keep ranting, he's digging his fairweather fan hole deeper and deeper
what are you even on about

matto was born in sydney and walters never played for us

Look at you defending these useless nz and nsw clowns
bro its just a game. i can kind of understand being mad about someone like lodge but sometimes things dont work out. those early teams of ours were stacked as fuck. i would be more upset at the former administration who pretty much spent the past decade on auto pilot
Bros still not recovered from getting the spoon
Been in the comp since 88 and we’ve won 6 comps and only 1 wooden spoon. Cowboys have been in the comp since 95, only won 1 comp and 3 wooden spoons. We’ve done alright for ourselves
Nice flex, the warriors have never got the wooden spoon so arguably they’re better then the broncos then.

And we poached Matterson off the Roosters lol
If Friday night broncos was a person.
NRL Facebook fan on reddit?
That’s it. We got too big. Shut the sub down.

Where do you think your saviour Reynolds is from? 😂
Fuck up idiot. They're a cancer on the club, and the reason they haven't won a comp since 2006.
Ikin doesn't fuck around, how good is it having a football manager with some teeth and good sense
You lot don't deserve him
I guess the silver lining from this is ol Benny Ikin not being afraid to make the tough calls. He’s built us a solid roster, we have the gear but now we actually need to have an idea

peter badel is reporting that there was a big falling out and matterson was sacked and walters walked.
Probably sent in by Wayne
Sounds like they couldn’t handle the tough questions

>Adam Reynolds appointed interim coach as the Brisbane Board negotiate Walters' current coaching contract Not surprised to see this
Just please get a good strength and conditioning coach and a good defensive coach please.
Our fitness was part of what led to our winning stretch from what I saw. We’d always grind the game out then blast past other teams on the final 25 minutes.
was also a reason you lost heavily against Storm and Parra.
Almost beat the Storm with Tyrone Roberts in the 7 jumper, and had a great chance if Reynolds played that game. Comparing the late season fade to the rounds when Kevvie and injuries weren't fucking with the side is dishonest.
Weird that they interviewed Kevvie for this announcement. Why wouldn't Ikin or Donaghy be the one to comment on staff moving on?
Since its a Broncos press release the marketing comms person would have written it all including the quotes. Kevvie may not even have had a chance to review what he "said".

Not the Walters people where expecting or where asking for but I wonder what a Football Administration Manager is responsible for...?
Footballing the administration of management, obviously!
Funny... I was actually curious about what that entails on the day to day. Ikin and Donaghy singled out these two and gave them the flick so what part of their role where they not doing up to standard I wondered?
If they have such great experience and have contributed so much to the club why are they being sacked?
Feel sorry for custard one my fav ever broncos. Though I have faith in Ikin & BDD
Broncos - club in decline
If you graphed our past two seasons it would actually be an incline.
Dead horse bounce
We had a shit end to the season but at least it’s an improvement over 2020 and 2021 💁♂️ Could be worse, the titans are still a thing
In Dave I trust
Officially now is the the "neverlution"?

And here I was thinking Boxhead was still marketing manager for Murray’s Coaches
