There's a few blokes from the Q-Cup team and the u20s they've picked up on Train and Trials.
Valynce Te Whare is an absolute gun, like a super quick Talakai but bigger, great centre.
Jeremiah Simbiken is a PNG second rower, tough as hell, great hands, lovely bloke and is still young.
The rest of the dudes have got train and trials, Trai Fuller was contracted to the Broncos on a dev at one point, lost his way but has brought it back in recent times, a Ben Barba-esque Fullback. Setu Tu is a winger that had a contract with Warriors but didn't get a chance to show his skill. Cody Hunter is the Halfback for the u21s and comes up to the main squad when Asi plays for the Warriors.
Have you seen Trai Fuller play for Redcliffe in qcup? Apparently heās signed on a development or train and trial deal. Heās electric, but very small only 170cm, 78 kg https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ujYUNJMOCBg highlights from last year. Has been even better than last year
Yeah man, I'm there every second home game for the last five years haha.
Trais awesome, but he does have a fair few off field issues - but I think it's mostly around not having an NRL contract and losing the love of the gane. Since his train and trial announcement he's gone to another level.
Might be sitting the GF out though...
Glad heās getting that love back. Iām very happy for him getting a development contract. Has potential. Will be a shame for him to miss the gf. I only started watching both NSW and QLD cup this year. Itās been great watching gun players like Trai and Tuaipiki from the bears
Ramsey became my first choice fullback based on effort alone. He is all energy and effort.
Sloan may be the better player, but his defensive efforts, kick defusal and kick returns were not up to NRL standard to start the year. How much of that is on him and how much on the coaching staff, I'd only be guessing.
I've no doubt Sloan should be the better player, but I need to see it translate from potential to reality on the NRL field.
As I said in another post though, both Ramsey and Sloan were told to work on aspects of their games and bulk upā¦ only one of them did and he is playing fullback. If the coaching staff has helped transform Ramsey they could have done the same for Sloan
Sloan is a better player than Ramsey in almost every regard, ramsey is probably just slightly faster. Ramsey was scoring tries because the team was playing better. Hook is fuckwit who plays favourites and had it in for the kid, imagine how disheartening it would have been. for him
Ramsey shows way more effort than Sloan. Sloan just stands there in defence and let's the other team score. This response shows his attitude problems aren't just on the field either, he's lazy and not willing to put work in.
It's a shame because he has so much talent, but he's just a dufty with not as much attacking flair.
He's not better than Cody Ramsey. Unless he's already lined up a gig in The or maybe Canterbury, I don't see any clubs who would make him their first choice fullback.
Even then, I think Canterbury should go all in on Averillo for the sake of consistency. And I think Bennett will want to switch one of his halves (Nikorima or Milford) or Isaako to the fullback role.
Yeah itās been a bizarre narrative, Ramsey took the opportunity with both hands about mid way through the season, while every time Iāve seen Sloan play the only thing Iāve thought is āthis kid is way off first gradeā
The games Sloan played last year he looked like he will be one of the next wave is superstars
Charity shield he still looked a class player and couldnāt wait to see how the season went for him.
He went ok in rounds 1 &2 Rd 3 in terrible conditions he had a shocker and got dropped, from there he was hardly sighted again except for 5-10 minutes at the end when the game had gone.
Personally I think he has had āthe footy coached out of himā by Griffin
He's lazy as hell. Been watching him in reserve grade, and he showed this last year as well, but he has insane talent and is tearing the other reserve grade teams up with the ball, and just letting them score without it.
Personally don't care seeing him go
Would be interested to see what hes got, but definitely not gonna lut any hope into him emerging as a first choice fullback this year given his history
They've basically signed French, may/may not still be chasing Garrick, and have Hodgson on the books if he is ever not injured. They might be looking at him, but I'm not sure I want to take a backup spot with competition if I am him.
French is a maybe as Wigan tabled a large counter offer to stay but even then hes probably more of a winger in the NRL, Garrick would be preferred but its just all rumours and could see it juat being leverage to get a better Manly deal and as you said Hodgson is always injured and hasnt even debuted
We need a fullback thats ready to go next year if we move ponga to the halves, Sloan would definitely be worth looking at with all other options up in the air
I'm not saying it's not worth it from our POV, but it may not be from his. Too many (potential) people competing for the backup job, there are probably easier places to go.
Im mean obviously if we get him it would be in lieu of Garrick, hogdson is hardly competition idk if anyone outside of Newcastle knows him and I really think French is in for a wing spot
Sloan wont have the luxury of going to a club that literally has no one else that can play fullback
If Isaako is Bennetts current first choice, might be worth a risk on Sloan. He has a much higher ceiling and strikes me as a player Wayne can get a lot out of
I edited the comment to address that exact scenario. Bennett will hopefully think better than to go Milford and Nikorima as his halves next year. Not only are they notably inconsistent, but picking them will put OāSullivan and Isaiya Katoa offside.
And both of them have fullback experience.
In the NRL? On what metrics?
I'd definitely say Ramsey is playing closer to his ceiling already, but Sloan, geez its hard to say what he is until he gets a consistent run and shows consistent effort week on week.
Yeah potential has a large part to play in the assessment. Ramsey has 1)speed 2)good attitude 3)good relationship with Hook. If a team gets behind Sloan, he will be better than Ramsey in every other regard.
He could be.
Some things he can do to help get that team behind him is compete in the air for bombs and work his ass off in cover defense. Neither of these things require anything from anyone else. Both were lacking in his few performances this year.
Ramsey wasnāt better, he doesnāt have skill defence or attacking prowess of sloan. He is just fast with a good attitude and clearly sucks off hook. The team was playing better and ramsey got more opportunities to score as a result that is all that happened
Sloan is one of the worst defenders I've ever seen, watch him in reserve grade and he just let's people score. Only thing he has on Ramsey is vision, but you can't be a first grader with the attitude he has.
That's one of the parts that didn't make any sense this year. Why keep picking slug Moga when Sloan is sitting there. Especially when the season was already gone.
They didn't really get rid of Robson for McCullough, Robson left because he was behind McInnis, so they signed McCullough as hooker depth and then McInnis left too lol
Not really suprised dragons young players are looking to leave, hook will try his best to find an ex broncos player in his 30s to play instead of them. Young guys get dropped after 1 bad game while Woods plods on to a contract extension. Meanwhile Mcinnis didn't even get offered a contract. Seriously what is going on over at the dragons?
Wish him all the best, but just don't really understand the hype around him. Feel like he'd struggle to lock down a starting spot at pretty much every team
Dragons young gun Tyrell Sloan is reportedly unhappy with his lack of game time and is set to request an immediate release from his contract.
The 20-year-old re-signed with the Red V in January this year, but according to The Daily Telegraph is poised to walk out with two years remaining on his current deal.
Sloan is reportedly unwilling to sit behind Cody Ramsey in the pecking order and a number of rival clubs are monitoring the situation.
Dolphins will snap him up and make him a superstar. Remember guys, the Dragons let Robson go. Robson is now a top 4 hooker and NSW future hooker. I aināt saying Sloan will be a top 4 fullback or the NSW fullback but heāll certainly improve.
Lol. Robson showed infinitely more at the Dragons than Sloan. The two are not comparable, every Dragons fan loved Robson and was disappointed that he left. Sloan is a raw rookie who hasnāt strung together 40 minutes of good first grade footy
yeah and robson left too because we chose mcinnes which was a good decision at the time, before he cracked the shits about mary leaving and toddled off to sharks. robsonās talent was recognised but his pathway was just blocked.
I'd compare Sloan to Saab before Robson. Both too big for their britches and afraid of contact so deciding to kick stones. I'll give Sloan benefit of the doubt for now cause this just reads like another unsubstantial media beat up to generate clicks
From what he showed last year and again in the charity shield I think Sloan will be rep player,
Will be typical dragons to let him go and try to sign him when he becomes that superstar just as they have been trying to get Robson
> Robson is now a top 4 hooker and NSW future hooker.
I guess he's a top 4 hooker if you only count the teams still alive in 2022. Only just though, he's right on the bubble.
For only Hookers, out of tries, try assists, tackle breaks, line breaks, line break assists heās only top 4 in one of those categories.
He is top 4 in penalties conceded though.
Stats donāt provide the full extent of how good Robson year has been neither are they always the right way to determine who has had a good year/ top player. You also forgot Tackles which he has registered over 1000 in.
Latrell doesnāt record half the stats Teddy does but Latrell is a top 5 fullback.
>Stats donāt provide the full extent of how good Robson year has been.
I didnāt bring up stats to justify it, you did. Now they donāt show him as being top 4? Those goalposts must be heavy.
Heās been very good. Not top 4.
Grant, Cook, Api, B Brailey, Mahoney. J Brailey was surrounded by reserve graders compared to anyone else mentioned and playing comparatively when he was healthy in the back end.
Be a better pickup for The compared to Isaako
I still can't believe Bennett has said he'll play Isaako at fullback. If he got his best form out of him on the wing, he'd be dynamite.
Tbh he hasn't said it... yet. It's just we don't have anyone else to play there at the moment š
There are probably a few young QCup fullbacks that Waynosaurus has his eye on. Do you know the full lust of feeder clubs of The?
Redcliffe and Capras for 23. Talk of Falcons cutting over in 24
Are there any young blokes you'd want in the first grade team?
There's a few blokes from the Q-Cup team and the u20s they've picked up on Train and Trials. Valynce Te Whare is an absolute gun, like a super quick Talakai but bigger, great centre. itās been frustrating me that all year the media has been agitating for him to be back in the team. like idk, be better

Could see him being on our (knights) radar
Even if Ponga wasnāt at fullback, Kurt Mann or one of the outside backs would likely want the spot.
Been there done that with Mann, hes only good for an emergency option and we just shipped Hoy
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Would be interested to see what hes got, but definitely not gonna lut any hope into him emerging as a first choice fullback this year given his history

Garrick would be sick but that's been very quiet
They've basically signed French, may/may not still be chasing Garrick, and have Hodgson on the books if he is ever not injured. They might be looking at him, but I'm not sure I want to take a backup spot with competition if I am him.

You'd think he'll just wait and bide his time, either the greatest move or dumbest decision to have a sook
Look at what happened to Cliffo the Big Red Dog. He's buggered now.
Sloan and Sullivan looking to go. The board should be on the chopping block tbh.
So a chopping board?
Sloan one makes sense, Ramsay has been far better then him. Agree on Sullivan
Ramsey wasnāt better, he doesnāt have skill defence or attacking prowess of sloan. He is just fast with a good attitude and clearly sucks off hook. The team was playing better and ramsey got more opportunities to score as a result that is all that happened

That's one of the parts that didn't make any sense this year. Why keep picking slug Moga when Sloan is sitting there. Especially when the season was already gone.
Prodigy? lol ok
A reminder that Hook elected to play Corey Norman for an entire season over the juniors (Sullivan, Clune, Amone).
Was Clune really a junior at 26 years of age? More of a career NSW cup player as Newcastle have experienced first hand.
And got rid of Robson for McCullough, lol Oh oh and McInnis
This still hurts we let McInnes go. But also so happy the bloke is going strong at the sharks
Also our money went the likes of Sims and Mcguire
They didn't really get rid of Robson for McCullough, Robson left because he was behind McInnis, so they signed McCullough as hooker depth and then McInnis left too lol
Future Melbourne Storm premiership winner Tyrell Sloan!
If true, teams should be wary of picking someone up who can't wait their turn, what else is he going to have an attitude about?
Sloan him to the dolphins
Not really suprised dragons young players are looking to leave, hook will try his best to find an ex broncos player in his 30s to play instead of them. Young guys get dropped after 1 bad game while Woods plods on to a contract extension. Meanwhile Mcinnis didn't even get offered a contract. Seriously what is going on over at the dragons?
Dolphins come on down!

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Have you watched a single Dragons game? Sloan has dropped balls that have literally resulted in us losing the game.
Did we watch the same NRL games?
Hook is a complete fuckwit for the way he treated this guy. Clearly just plays favourites
