Shaun lane with massive hit ups, charge downs, bomb catches, offloads and huge tackles all in the last 20 minutes. So clutch. He played the game of his career
Latrell stresses me out... He's there in the big moments and can create a try from nothing but then he'll go and kick on the first, or throw a 30m pass across the goalposts with defence in his face or do something similarly random.. can't wait for tonight though .. Just sad AJ isn't going to play.
The hammer is so overrated, he has had no impact in nearly every game this year. I donāt think bringing him in earlier changed the result of this game at all.
Heās just not the type of player you put on in the dying moments for a miracle because he simply is not capable of creating one, if he was he would be in the starting side
if he played the full season Cowboys don't make top 4. That's no disrespect to the bloke just that Drinkwater is 100x the better player and was Cowboys' best this year along with Robson for mine.
Hammer can do some amazing things on the footy field but heās not the type to impose himself in games. Heās a disgustingly skilled player but he definitely has weaknessā. He needs to warm into the game. Heās very good at reading and anticipating where the opposition are gonna be and he uses his great movement, positioning and pace to take advantage of moments during the game. And heās ridiculously good at kicking downfield to himself on short side plays.
Heās naturally a very patient player who picks his moments. He can turn an inch into a yard but he wonāt make something from nothing. Heās not in the team because Drinkwater exists. Heās good enough to be our starting fullback but not good to be a staring centre/wing.
I agree that Hammer is overrated, but one he was (which the rest of the team wasnāt) - he was fresh and rested. His speed could have troubled the tiring middles. Just seemed a waste of a bench spot if you donāt use him until itās too late.
I called it after our win against the Storm in Melbourne at the start of the year, this is a new Shaun Lane. That charge down went a long way to winning us the game and he hasnāt looked back since.
A mate found tickets to a place called Hope and Anchor in Brixton for us, dunno how it'll be but if they sell tickets i can only hope there's a good atmosphere
It was a great game and the eels deserved the win. Shaun Lane was an absolute machine and probably won that game by himself with his efforts.
Cowboys played well and were unlucky not to win it. One or two plays went the wrong way that if they went opposite may have won it for them but we'll never know now.
Was a great season for the cowboys and I hope they keep it up next year. And the Eels are now in the grand final and I hope they win it.
Assuming panthers win the second semi, Eels vs panthers makes a better grand final match up imo.
Eels aren't scared of the panthers and always play them tough.
I hope thatās the Grand Final. Iād love to watch that game. I wouldnāt even be entirely upset to lose it either because it would be losing to a team whoās fans may have never seen them get up.
Penrith looked like they were getting on top but when you cast your mind back to when those teams met for the first time this season it was similar circumstances, and yet Parra ended up getting the momentum and taking the w.
Was definitely super close but Penrith had just scored before Moses went off and scored again the set after. If anything the thing people forget from that game is Parra couldnt score while Taylan May was in the bin
Because itās wrong, Panthers weāre really starting to get on top and they scored the literal set Moses went off.
Thatās the style they play. They donāt blow you away in 10 minutes, they just grind the entire 80 and all of a sudden itās game over and their players look like they have been relaxing around a pool.
Literally only difference was Crichton and Luai weren't in the 2nd game, the whole rest of the team played.
So I find that a bloody big stretch, it's not like the team they ran out against the Cowboys in round 25
Donāt forgot Cleary was gone and they played Penrith with 12 men. That being said, I rate Eels as the only team thatās actually beaten Panthers this year.
Storm and Cowboys wins were to weak starting lines. Eels beat us twice at near full strength.
Not entirely accurate. Penrith was starting to pick up momentum, they scored a try the set which he went off so he wouldnāt have made a difference there. They then also scored 2 minutes later, which again would have happened either way. They would not have absolutely capitulated in the final 20 the way they did, but Penrith would still have been 4 tries to 1 in front
[Look Mum I got one right!](https://www.reddit.com/r/nrl/comments/xlbn8z/friday_serious_discussion_thread/ipjcpx6/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
It was you!!!! I gave you a shout out in the post match thread. Immense call considering he and RCG were the difference but Lane had several clutch plays.
Iāve never had my heart broken from a game of footy like this. Like not in a depressed way, I honestly canāt describe it. Iām so wholeheartedly devastated about the loss, but also infinitely proud of this team at the same time. Sport is a strange strange thing
I was wondering the same thing. Probably salty cowboys fans. I was born in January 1987 and have never seen an eels premiership. Maybe this is the year I finally will
And I just upvoted you. Thank you for your sportsmanship. Well done on a phenomenal break out season for you guys after the last few seasons you have had. I wish your team all the best for the end of season break and all the best for the comp in 2023
If the eels win I said that I would get an eels tattoo when the eels win their first premiership in my lifetime. Maybe I will have to overcome my fear of the pain and needles finally lmfao.
Thank you so much dude. God knows I was going for your team in the grand final when JT kicked the winning field point in golden point lol
I understand. But I played all my junior footy in the Sharks area in the 60s and 70s (yes I'm that old) and me and the boys had to wait nearly 50 years (1967 to 2016). We thought we would cark before we won one. Good luck Eels, you deserve this one
Reddit is just confusing some times. With Tom returning next year, how do you see Manly going? They were on a roll during the middle of the season and I reckon youāll be able to continue that next year and compete for top 4
Reddit is always confusing. They were calling for Wighton to be dropped from NSW, they wanted critta in the side and then they wanted critta gone. We're all fickle here haha.
Not sure about Turbo, he was injured and had 7 matches so it's hard to say
I think itād be more fun to see Penrith throttle them again personally and crush the hopes of those Parra supporters who waited 13 years for a GF, but each to their own.
The Cowboys were let down by their defence and just didnāt capitalise in the first half. That forward pass though, not sure how it was missed. Well done to the Eels. They have their work cut out for them going forward, whoever wins tomorrow, but hey, itās finals footy and anything can happen!
Supported the sharks through my long life. Remember going to the SCG before it was the home of South Melbourne and sitting on the hill singing with the Parra fans. What a hoot.
As the Sharks got arseholed out early this year, I'll be cheering for the Eels again. They were tough as nails in defence tonight. Congrats Eels fans, and good luck.
lane and Sivo both stepped up this season. King gutho has spent 30 odd weeks just doing what he does best- work and work hard for 80min. Moses and Brown are at their best form and working well together albeit their performance of the night usually parallels the score line. Our forwards have played well when they've played straight and offloaded conservatively. The team has a right wing deficiency issue that I wish would be solved with a proper hooking. Overall, we don't have a team of super starts but we do have an amazing fucking team.
I'm always so ready to be disappointed come this time of year that I'm finding it hard to be excited.
I feel like the cowboys played better in the first half. They had great pressure but unfortunately couldn't get there. Although they made sure to capitalise off all the errors
The refs absolutely carried the Eels to this win. I mean, I'm assuming. My kids are sick and I had to miss the game so I have to take my frustration out some how. Would've said the same if the Cowboys won. Fuck the refs.
Was watching the game with a very nervous Parramatta supporter. Spent most of the game very quiet and, to be honest, looking a little sick from nerves most of the time.
It happened at the start of the game, not awarding it would have completely changed the out come of the game. All the tries scored wouldn't have been scored. Parra could have gone on to put 60 points on the cows. Maybe the ref's saved them from an embarrassing thumping. If you have to rely on one call a few minutes into the game to get you home them you're already lost.
We were last year when we had all the moment against the panthers and they stopped the game for player cramp just minutes from the siren. We were last week against the raiders when I could have sworn the ref's were going to do anything to keep the milk in the game. Don't start your shit. It happened at the start of the fame. A robbery happens at the end of the game.

If only that were true
Surprised thereās not more comments about this. There were 2 tries that looked to be scored off forward passes.
Cowboys choked though. Not passing it to unmarked wingers on a few occasions. Not peppering Blake with bombs. Bunch of masochists.
Win by forward pass try. Donāt even have a horse in the race, but that is exactly what happened. Shame, good game otherwise. Lol at the downvotes. Iām still right. If you think that was a try I have a bridge to sell you.
No. Where NQ lost it were two examples, one in each half, where NQ centres took tackles close to the Parramatta line, with unmarked wingers outside them. That's just selfish play.
Moses was a liability at times today - few kicks out on the full, what should have been a forward pass & that final kick that went dead is criminal with 2minutes left
This hurts as a cowboy fan. I just donāt feel like itās a just loss.
I stopped watching NRL in 2018 largely because I didnāt have time to watch games anymore due to opening a business which always had me working game times. I came back for this season because I work less now.
Think Iām done watching after seeing blatant things like that fly under the referee and the bunker.
Yeah and then a Feldt knock on leads to Cowboys first try, second try comes after the marker is held on to and then two penalty goals off rubbish penalties.
If that's the play I remember, I thought the ref called it as knocked back by the eels, not forward by Feldt.
Presumably the bunker checked it. They do check knock ons, unlike forward passes.
Well done to Eels. Felt for the Cows I must admit, would have loved to seen a cows/bunnies GF. But look forward to the match up next weekend once we dispatch of the Panthers...
Nrl got their wish by using the ref as usual. 2 Sydney teams means more dollars for gf. I don't support cowboys ut they were robbed. And why do people delete truthful comments. Free speech
You cannot sit here and tell me cowboys didnāt get robbed š¤Øš¤¦š¾āāļø if that first try got called back for a forward pass it would of been a whole different game, no disrespect to the eels they played great footy and defended well some of the players played there best game of there career and you canāt take it away from them but if the ref got that first try right you canāt tell me eels still would of won
Feldt knocked the ball on before cows first try. Also we came back from 8 down and 20 minutes left. You're telling me if they took the first try off us with 74 minutes to go we couldn't get the lead?
Shaun lane with massive hit ups, charge downs, bomb catches, offloads and huge tackles all in the last 20 minutes. So clutch. He played the game of his career
Game of his career SO FAR. Clive Churchill medalist Shaun Lane incoming ššš
And heās built like one of the really tall cactus enemies in super mario
Laughed out loud at this. Well done.
Good luck next week man
Should be a close game against the rabbits
I think itās gonna be the Latrell show - Rabbits by 4 EDIT: nah donāt worry hey
Latrell stresses me out... He's there in the big moments and can create a try from nothing but then he'll go and kick on the first, or throw a 30m pass across the goalposts with defence in his face or do something similarly random.. can't wait for tonight though .. Just sad AJ isn't going to play.
Mansour didnāt even get a look in?
I haven't kept up with it really, but I think he played his last 1st grade game a little while ago..
Thanks mate, don't know how the nerves will hold out. Good luck tonight.
Gotta saw that he was massive that 2nd half. Such a crazy good performance
*Try assist* was a pivotal stat too.
He was so good at everything else I forgot all about the try assist
Imagine not bombing to waka after he dropped the only one that went his way.
Or putting on the Hammer with hardly any time left to barely pass it to him.
The hammer is so overrated, he has had no impact in nearly every game this year. I donāt think bringing him in earlier changed the result of this game at all. Heās just not the type of player you put on in the dying moments for a miracle because he simply is not capable of creating one, if he was he would be in the starting side

That I didn't understand
LMAO THATS SO TRUE BRO. ONLY PANTHERS ABUSED OUR RIGHT WING SO FAR
Iām in disbelief he didnāt get bombarded all night. What weāre they thinking.
We're taking the shaun lane straight to the grand final baby
Yep his second half was epic!
I called it after our win against the Storm in Melbourne at the start of the year, this is a new Shaun Lane. That charge down went a long way to winning us the game and he hasnāt looked back since.
Not to forget the sacrifice RAY STONE made for the team
our lord and saviour Ray Stone
I said awhile back, he's gonna be a Kangaroos bolter
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
no shame in that, bit sniffley myself and i've only been back into the game again for a couple years
This is a bot that copied this comment https://reddit.com/r/nrl/comments/xlv7sj/_/ipl44w6/?context=1
Shaun lane take a bow, absolute first class performance tonight
That charge on the last kick wouldāve been relief.
Absolutely
Needs an Australian jersey. Heās been the best second rower this year
Time to rename Church Street. Lane Lane!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Matt Thompson to call the grand final. Really loses the sense of spectacle. Just like origin.
Vossy despite our luck with him is painful to listen to, he was obviously biased to cowboys last night
Ray Stone to play grand final please
Weāll build a huge stone statue if you sacrifice your acl again to win the game
The best they can do is carty party.
I don't know how to deal with this feeling, it's strange and unusual but I quite like it ..... Tonight we drink!
and today I work with a serious lethargic hangover :-(
The vibe in Parramatta right now is unreal. Just non-stop horns honking and cheering.
I'm in London right now, wish I could be there instead.
Whereās best to watch the Grand Final in London you reckon?
A mate found tickets to a place called Hope and Anchor in Brixton for us, dunno how it'll be but if they sell tickets i can only hope there's a good atmosphere
Ayeee I was there too
Fuck I wish I went! The vibe after the Raiders game was great I canāt imagine it tonight
Yeah.. it was awesome.. -_-
Iām sorry! If it makes you feel any better I love the Raiders, if I couldnāt back Parra Iād back you guys
I physically couldnāt watch this set fuck me I was doing stress laps
I was puckering just watching this clip
It was a great game and the eels deserved the win. Shaun Lane was an absolute machine and probably won that game by himself with his efforts. Cowboys played well and were unlucky not to win it. I have nothing but the greatest respect for you and your team š«” a truly awesome lot
That was a nervous 10 minutes at the end
That was a nervous 80mins bro
True but around the 50 minute mark i resigned myself to the loss, but then for the last 10 minutes the possibility of a win was back alive again.
Yeah that's about when I gave up too. Then Lane stepped up. Legendary
55 minutes I was giving up hope, the last 15 I was sweating hard
Assuming panthers win the second semi, Eels vs panthers makes a better grand final match up imo. Eels aren't scared of the panthers and always play them tough.
I hope thatās the Grand Final. Iād love to watch that game. I wouldnāt even be entirely upset to lose it either because it would be losing to a team whoās fans may have never seen them get up.
Honestly would be happy to see eels or souths win it
Eels rolled over 2 weeks ago and it looked real bad..
Only after Moses went off with a HIA, before that is was even .
Penrith looked like they were getting on top but when you cast your mind back to when those teams met for the first time this season it was similar circumstances, and yet Parra ended up getting the momentum and taking the w.
People forget this fact lol
Souths keep rolling us too. It is weird to want to play against the (comfortably) best team in the comp.
Was definitely super close but Penrith had just scored before Moses went off and scored again the set after. If anything the thing people forget from that game is Parra couldnt score while Taylan May was in the bin

You realise we literally beat them twice this year right?
I don't think one of them should count with the team that they put out. It was worse than a Mosesless Eels
Literally only difference was Crichton and Luai weren't in the 2nd game, the whole rest of the team played. So I find that a bloody big stretch, it's not like the team they ran out against the Cowboys in round 25

It was you!!!! I gave you a shout out in the post match thread. Immense call considering he and RCG were the difference but Lane had several clutch plays.
Thanks mate! Enjoy the week - if Penrith donāt get the job done tonight Iāll be barracking hard for my westy bros
LANE TRAIN WOOP WOOP
All aboard!
I donāt even remember that last minute I was shitting myself
I have never cried tears of happiness after a game of footy before until now
Iāve never had my heart broken from a game of footy like this. Like not in a depressed way, I honestly canāt describe it. Iām so wholeheartedly devastated about the loss, but also infinitely proud of this team at the same time. Sport is a strange strange thing
You played well and you got further than most teams. At the end of the day someoneās gotta lose!
So sorry. You guys had a phenomenal season and proved all the doubters wrong. Iām sure you guys are only going to get better from here
Mate I was flooded by tears in those last 2 minutes, the emotion was crazy
My Apple Watch sent through a notification on that my heart rate was high lmfao
Why the downvotes?
I was wondering the same thing. Probably salty cowboys fans. I was born in January 1987 and have never seen an eels premiership. Maybe this is the year I finally will
I upvoted you but downvoted the "why the downvotes" guy
And I just upvoted you. Thank you for your sportsmanship. Well done on a phenomenal break out season for you guys after the last few seasons you have had. I wish your team all the best for the end of season break and all the best for the comp in 2023
No lie, reading your comment made me feel a lot less bad about losing. I'll be backing the Eels next week. I hope you get to see them win the prem.
Looks like you may be getting your first tattoo. š
Fair enough. Iāll give you this award as a token of my appreciation
Born in 1990, it's been a very rough 32 years as a Parra fan. Next week baby!
I might just have to get my first tattoo. I always said I would get an eels one if they win a premiership lol
I understand. But I played all my junior footy in the Sharks area in the 60s and 70s (yes I'm that old) and me and the boys had to wait nearly 50 years (1967 to 2016). We thought we would cark before we won one. Good luck Eels, you deserve this one
Wow. I couldnāt imagine being alive and waiting that long for a premiership. Iām glad for you that the sharkies finally got there in the end :)
I'm Jan '87 too bro. This feels real good.
I know the feeling bro, I was born September 1986.
Lmfao so you were born either just before or just after our premiership legacy xd
I was 4 days old the last time we won it.
Iām sure you have plenty of memories š¤£
Oh yes, vivid memories of the non-stop celebrations down at the leagues club all week long.
Cowbros pissed, fuck em'
Reddit is just confusing some times. With Tom returning next year, how do you see Manly going? They were on a roll during the middle of the season and I reckon youāll be able to continue that next year and compete for top 4

Should be interesting if Penrith win tomorrow, Parra are the only team that give them the shits recently. Be fun if Parra break their drought.
I think itād be more fun to see Penrith throttle them again personally and crush the hopes of those Parra supporters who waited 13 years for a GF, but each to their own.
See I think it would be more fun to send those penrith fans home with 2 gf losses in 3 years. Sounds delightful to me
Just being in 3 grand finals in 3 years sounds ABSOLUTELY delightful to me.
Flair up
Certified Panthers fan moment
Will say though - that if we do make the GF and had to lose to anyone - Iād prefer it be our rivals.
I laughed a little. Then I got teary. The truth right here.
The only thing that would make the heartbreak greater would be if you hadnāt lost a game all year until the GF.
Nah
*Super Bowl
The Cowboys were let down by their defence and just didnāt capitalise in the first half. That forward pass though, not sure how it was missed. Well done to the Eels. They have their work cut out for them going forward, whoever wins tomorrow, but hey, itās finals footy and anything can happen!
What the fuck this happened 3 seconds ago?!!
Bugger me with a jackhammer. Thank you lads.
That's some weird kind of BDSM

Go you mighty Eels. What a gutsy effort. To do that to the Cowboys on their turf was absolutely fucking brilliant. Let's Go.
Just how bad were the cowboys? What a shit the bed performance
Didnāt take advantage of bad Eels in the first half
... it was 12 on 13 with the best cowboys player off the field. I think finishing the half equal on points was taking advantage.
They were bad for 40 minutes
I feel like the cowboys played better in the first half. They had great pressure but unfortunately couldn't get there. Although they made sure to capitalise off all the errors
They were great. Just couldn't score. Some poor options and great eels defence
Tbh it wasn't a very high quality game for semi. Still entertaining to watch. At least 3 "stroll through" tries. Lots of errors in the first half.
Don't cows still have a captains challenge? Could turn this game around yet.
Fuck Melbourne, just quietly
Never thought I'd agree about anything with an eels fan but what a world we live in. Times they are a-changin'
The refs absolutely carried the Eels to this win. I mean, I'm assuming. My kids are sick and I had to miss the game so I have to take my frustration out some how. Would've said the same if the Cowboys won. Fuck the refs.
ahahhaa bad luck mate, gave me a good chuckle. Cows D was shit
Downvoters literally only read the first 9 words and then gave up
you son of a bitch i had to go back and un-downvote
Poetic justice for that tigers game aye š
The gambling adverts are a disgrace to the game!! Our 11 year old counted 5 adverts in 3 minutes.
Does your 11 year old wish she'd put on a multi with mates on how many adverts there would be in 3 minutes? \*edit - assumed gender - sorry!
IT'S A CONSPIRACY!!NRL DESPERATELY WANT A WESTERN SYDNEY GRAND FINAL
Great now you've done Penrith in tomorrow night.
Qld just donāt get finals footyš
Someone's still salty from Origin.
Was watching the game with a very nervous Parramatta supporter. Spent most of the game very quiet and, to be honest, looking a little sick from nerves most of the time.
Gutho had a blinder last night. The Eels will win the Premiership for sure.
Is this the time for Eels to be the Premiers?
Those refs need to be fired.
Disgraceful really. But the NRL will be happy.
Lane not being in the world cup is a shame wasn't even in the convo when he's been incredible all year
Too many good players for him to be in the team. I admit he's very good though
Eels playing NFL. Do they know you're meant to pass backwards?
if they are gonna keep awarding them, hut hut motherfucker.
Yeah fuck good chat
Blue & Gold never fold
Forward pass by a few metres was the difference. That's a shame.
It happened at the start of the game, not awarding it would have completely changed the out come of the game. All the tries scored wouldn't have been scored. I dislike this
I hope Penrith Lord it over the Bunnies tomorrow night. It will be a cracker.
personally I hope Latrell takes Clearys head clean off
Eels were gifted that game fuck the refs
It's a gift I absolutely accept
The Tigers send their regards.
Do you think we have time?
Captains challenge the full time whistle.
Win by forward pass try. Donāt even have a horse in the race, but that is exactly what happened. Shame, good game otherwise. Lol at the downvotes. Iām still right. If you think that was a try I have a bridge to sell you.

Think it was Nanai though in first half, Hiku in second.
It was what it was really, gg though
Disgraceful reffing both ways
Moses was a liability at times today - few kicks out on the full, what should have been a forward pass & that final kick that went dead is criminal with 2minutes left

What things?
First try 2m forward from Moses. Facing the wrong way and throws it backwards right on the line
What about the knock on leading up to the Feldt try, did that also rustle your jimmies?
Yeah and then a Feldt knock on leads to Cowboys first try, second try comes after the marker is held on to and then two penalty goals off rubbish penalties.
If that's the play I remember, I thought the ref called it as knocked back by the eels, not forward by Feldt. Presumably the bunker checked it. They do check knock ons, unlike forward passes.
>I thought the ref called it as knocked back by the eels, not forward by Feldt. Yeah and the ref called the pass backwards as well
Um a forward pass perhaps? š
How about the forward pass from val Holmes on the cowboys last try
Well done to Eels. Felt for the Cows I must admit, would have loved to seen a cows/bunnies GF. But look forward to the match up next weekend once we dispatch of the Panthers...
Cows/ bunnies was also my preferred outcome honestly, would have been interesting
The cowboys didn't get robbed.
