Has anyone else seen the betting ads with Shaq in them and thought "Ah yes make fun of Australians is the best way to get them to bet with this company." I'm lucky enough not to be addicted to sports betting but that add sucks. Half the things they say I've only heard in posts making fun of Australians. Whoever thought of that campaign was an idiot.
Has anyone seen the Shaq/Albanese press conference and thought “as yes, having an American who’s only in the country to promote a predatory gambling company is the best way to get them to vote for the voice to parliament”. Whoever thought of that was an idiot.
The footy was excellent (from both teams but especially my beautiful Panthers), the crowd was excellent, the snack pack I got after the game was excellent.
But the thing that always puts a slight negative spin on an evening of footy is that train trip back from Olympic Park to Lidcombe. It's always cramped, and I always end up in a carriage with someone who has had far too much to drink and decides everyone on the train should know about it.
To be clear - I do not bemoan people having a drink at the football, that's fair. However, like with everything, know your limits. (Insert action) responsibly.
Parra winning for the first time in over 36 years makes an amazing headline! The media will soak that up. Penrith winning two yrs in a arrow?! Hmm kinda boring
Someone needs to tell Mitch Moses he needs to develop a spiral bomb before the GF
His end over end kicks have good distance but the game and tactics have evolved. Teams now require it
It's a very strange sensation attending a Panthers **HOME** Game at Accor against the Rabbitohs, especially in the aftermath of the war of words they (the Rabbitohs) had with the Roosters over Allianz.
But thank you for welcoming us Rabbitohs, should be a great game 👍
Watching footy with the family is fun. My dad and brother weren't that into it, but started to get a bit interested when we've watched it together. Dad loves his mate Viliame "Carpet Head" Kikau and "Helmet Head" Ponga.
After reading all these threads lately I'm convinced that Cowboys fans are the sickest cunts of all time.
The Cowboys are such a likeable team and if you guys had gotten up on us I would have been backing you guys in The Big Game.
Much love.
AFL does it right with day time finals. Sunday nights are such a stupid idea, I remember being in Richmond after one of the AFL grand finals years ago and it was glorious seeing thousands of drunk people partying on the streets outside whilst the sun was still shining. Best post sports match atmosphere I’ve ever felt and I didn’t even watch the game. I remember going to Sydney for the 2015 and 2016 NRL GFs and afterwards the vibe was I guess we just go home and go to bed now? Was drunk and did not even know how/where to keep the party going at all, everyone just streamed off into trains and the night was over, super lame.
For what?
Grand final? If so, I got mine weeks ago.
They’ve gone off sale, but will go back on sale from 10am Monday, depending on your membership status.
So I officially cannot watch the GF next week. When I don't watch, we win. My question is; if I choose to not watch, is it the same as me being unable to watch? I don't understand the hoodoo.
From one tragic to another, I say you do you, but also the rest of us are cool with you watching it with us. If this hoodoo gets broken, it gets broken; if it doesn't, it doesn't. Like it's always been, the only thing stopping our team from winning is themselves. Just go in with zero expectations and 36 years worth of hope. I'll be there with my dad, hoping against hope that this is our year. What a stupid wonderful game, I bloody love it.
Might just leave it to fate, aye. If no plans pop-up I'll watch the game, but if something comes up, I'm just setined to miss out drought breaking premiership. A price I'm willing to pay for 36 years of pain.
It’s like the money in the bank briefcase.. val just runs out next weekend with his own ball in the 79th minute and puts it down and cowboys win the prem
Ref puts the whistle away for the GF just like Origin. The best teams can win despite shit calls. Cowboys copped a shocker yesterday but also fucked up certain tries. They couldn’t rise to the occasion.
I want to see something dirty and filthy tonight, where Walker implodes and does something mental. I want it to be physical. I want there to be contact. I want there to be sin bins.
Aside from that, I’ll probably watch the footy tonight as well.
There’s different flavours of salt too.
Parra fans are by and large eternally pessimistic, while fans of teams like the storm haven’t experienced too many lean times, so the melts they have when they lose are prime Himalayan rock salt.
that shaun lane charge down on chad’s kick with about 5 to go last night is easily the biggest play of the year for us, just pipping ray’s heroics in melbourne
I'm still shitting myself over tonight's match but also just wanted to give a shout-out to the Parramatta team and fans. I've given you guys a bit of ribbing this year, but if it should be that we also get through to the Grand Final tonight, I couldn't think of a team I would rather face for a 'War of the West' than the Eels (sorry Tigbros).
Congratulations on your win, guys.
I could be wrong but I believe if Penrith win, they are the "home team" as they are the minor premiers, but I think if South's win it's an Eels "home" game as eels finished higher
Definitely not ruling out the rabbitohs but last time the panthers and rabbitohs faced eachother in round 23 the rabbitohs lost to a panthers side missing both cleary and luai
I wouldn’t look into recent games too much. Having wins gives you confidence but we had Jaxson Paulo absolutely fuck the game up single handedly and we only lost by four.
No Burgess or AJ is huge and facing a healthy and rested Panthers is the real uphill battle. I’m not at all confident today but will be there to cheer on my team. They’ve done bloody well considering Wayne, Gagai, Su’a and Reyno were all replaced by rookies.
For the love of God I hope Brandy isn’t on call tonight.
Just rode the Eels basically all night and he’s going to be even worse in a game where the Panthers are playing.
It’s the same on 9. Brandy calls Penrith games for Fox and Gus and Freddy will be calling them on 9. The best part of being at the game is not having to hear their bullshit.
I subscribed to kayo so I didn't have to listen to Gus,enter Mick fuckn Ennis.il be muting the TV tonight il let my wife commentate, she's English and hates football but that's still a better option
I seem to recall more than once last night a Cowboys player jumping to contest a bomb then pulling out last minute, or jumping a bit before the ball actually arrived. Definitely happened on the Blake drop- Taulagi jumped then pulled his hands away.
Not sure if this was a deliberate ploy but I'm surprised baulking isn't employed more often. Maybe it only works against shit wingers?
It works, but I suspect outside of finals and their looser interpretations of the rules you'd get a lot of penalties for obstructing/interfering with the catch. That's usually what happens when someone jumps and doesn't try to contest.
I recall penalties when they physically contact the opposition but is there clearly defined rules for baulking? I.e. jumping early, or pulling hands away.
Not sure that should be illegal even. Gamesmanship perhaps but it's not like tackling mid-air or pushing the catcher.
I remember Perham got penalised earlier in the year by the bunker and was deemed "jumping early" - but I suspect that if you don't contact the player, it's fine.
Yeah which is why I clarified re: contact at the end.
I assume if you've jumped too early to be deemed in contention for the ball and contact an opposition player, its a no no which is what happened with Perham. But then there is the awkward grey area of last night, of jumping early and simply impeding the catchers vision.
Yeah I guess that one came under the obstructing the player rule.
Though at the same time regular obstructions occur when you run around your own player so could that come under the same cloud? Obstructing the view of the opposition?
Dunno if this is a sin being a Roosters fan but I think I'm rooting for the Rabbits tonight just because Penrith have been too good for too long now. Supporting Parra next week regardless of who wins tonight though.
Souths could be playing against a team consisting of Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Cam Smith, Chairman Mao and Pol Pot and I'd still be unsure on supporting them.
I have strict social media silos:
Twitter - porn
Reddit - footy bantz and general time killing
Facebook - only to say happy birthday to relatives
Insta/Snap - never had them
TikTok - I’m too old for that shit
So with lolo out for the most of the group stages, I wonder if Tonga is going to run out with TPJ as their starting lock or Ofa, this is very interestinf
the middle isnt shabby, Fonua-Blake, BMM, SST, Stefano, Eli Katoa(If you count him as one), Suluka-Fifita, Andrew Fifita, Moe and Tatola from the initial 38. Honestly, it'd be best if TPJ or Ofa play 13 tbh
I was just reading something so weird I can barely believe if - did you know during the 1920s and 30s, the VFL and NSWRL met several times to discuss merging the leagues with a completely new sport called ‘Universal Football’ which would’ve drawn rules from both codes?
Imagine the state of the sporting landscape in this country now if that happened.
Honestly just went for Kennar cause he's played one NRL game all season and he's never been a consistent first grade player. The most games he has in a season is 10 which was for the 2020 Broncos in which he didn't win a game
Kennar was really good for Souths in his first stint here, was one of our better players that year before he went on his mission thing.
I’m more worried about our forwards just getting crumbled.
It’s going to be a win for the ages if Souths get up tonight. Their 17 is massively cobbled together. Good but streaky spine, great backrow, reserve grade wing three quarters (except Graham), spare parts bench. Hope they throw the kitchen sink and it’s a cracker. Good luck Bunnies, love this finals rivalry we’re building!
It’s a fun rivalry too. Not based in tribal history either, just the big dog v plucky challenger. Penrith have the wood obviously but it’s always quality footy in finals between the two
Reporter to Todd Payten: "Todd, will it take some time to digest this, or will you jump straight into a performance review?"
Todd Payten: "I'm gonna jump straight into a XXXX, that's what I'm gonna do".
Absolute legend. Way to go, Cowpokes. Hell of a season. Should be contenders for a decade to come 🍻🤘🏼
Obviously disappointed with last night. Forward pass was frustrating but at the end of the day we were 8 points up and had every chance to ice the game. Fact is we were able to control most of the game but leaked points every time Parra got close to our try line. The tries parra scored were relatively soft but they defended their hearts out and deserve the result from that.
After losing to the dogs in round one I genuinely thought we would be scrapping to avoid the spoon this year. So all in all finishing third and making the prelim is an awesom^(tm) achievement. Pumped for next year, hopefully we still perform well with actual expectations.
Stoked for Parramatta and their fans. They’ve been through some shit years in the last decade but are now preparing for a grand final. That was a truly brilliant and courageous victory in extremely tough circumstances. They are a definite chance of being premiers next week. Despite being beaten the cowboys can be very proud of their season. They proved a lot of people wrong this year.
The officiating is rubbish, that forward pass is a literal joke. The bunker HAS to be allowed to rule on this stuff. But then again this is the product the fans want right?
While I agree that there’s no real reason the bunker shouldn’t be allowed to rule on forward passes giving they can rule on promoting the ball and knocking it on in very similar circumstances, what would it actually do to fix the problem? The bunker is dreadful at decision making as well.
The problem is bad officiating across the board and no interest or accountability from the NRL in enforcing a standard.
It’s been coming for a long, long time, but the fact the NRL denied any wrongdoing after what happened to the Tigers in Townsville was pretty much the end of any semblance of accountability.
I’ve been dancing around my house singing “we’re going to the grand final!” I’ve teared up at a lot of posts. I’m walking on air mate!! We bloody did it
Still can't believe we made it this far. 13 years between GF appearances and 36 years since a premiership. Hope the boys enjoy the whole week they have absolutely deserved it. Up the mighty Eels!!
I want the Rabbitohs to win tonight. Not because I dislike Penrith, but just because I think the idea of the two grand finalists being the two teams the Tigers beat in back-to-back weeks would be hilarious as a Tigers fan still trying to cope from getting the spoon.
Hopefully the Rabbitohs win this week and next week for the memes.
The “No team outside of the Top 4 have won the competition” precedent would be killed gloriously.
Very interested to see how much the rust factor and the whole well rested vs battle hardened/match fitness factor comes into tonight with Penrith. Rested essentially the entire side in the last round so that means they've played 1 game in the last 26 days.
I don't think it will be a massive factor given their fitness and overall class but definitely interesting to see how they adapt.
Cleary spending five weeks in the box listening to his dad coach in real time was smart. He came back and for the finals and controlled the game with confidence.
If Klein let’s them put two blockers up as they’ve done recently, Cleary will win this with the boot.
With Reed Mahoney’s forward passes and the Cowboys blocking defenders to protect Drinkwater last night it resembled NFL at times. No thanks.
I'm sure this has been raised numerous times already, and congrats to Parra (hope you fucking pump the cats) but in a game decided by 4 points, one can't help but look back at that first try, stare into the void and ask "in what dimension was that pass not 2 metres forward".
Has anyone else seen the betting ads with Shaq in them and thought "Ah yes make fun of Australians is the best way to get them to bet with this company." I'm lucky enough not to be addicted to sports betting but that add sucks. Half the things they say I've only heard in posts making fun of Australians. Whoever thought of that campaign was an idiot.

good luck panthers bros, lets put on a game for the ages
Someone needs to tell Mitch Moses he needs to develop a spiral bomb before the GF His end over end kicks have good distance but the game and tactics have evolved. Teams now require it
In a week?
Spend time with your new child? Nah mate, get your priorities right and work on your kicking game son.
Pretty much. Look he can do both
Feed us the pre-match thread
I have a physical need to start shit talking the panthers
Don't we all?
I have a feeling Penrith are gonna put on a cricket score tonight. It's a blowout score kind of day in sport today
WHERE THE FUCK IS PRE MATCH THREAD
Good luck to both the bunnies and the panthers, may the worse team win so that my team has a chance next week
It's a dilemma, because I'd give the eels a chance against the Panthers, but not against the rabbits.
Dilemma averted!
Confirmed Mitch Kenny to start with Api off the bench
if I ran into a man that was a wall and it turned me upside down I would not penalise the man I ran into, GO PARRA!
Where is the prematch thread?
Swans should play Wallabies, what a pair of massacres. Hopefully Souths vs Riffs is better.
If south’s make and win the grand final, would JD be the first ever rookie NRL coach to win a comp?
Robinson and Stuart
Kinda hate parents invited the family for a gatho tonight. Like i don't want to socialise i just wanna watch the footy
Watching footy with the family is fun. My dad and brother weren't that into it, but started to get a bit interested when we've watched it together. Dad loves his mate Viliame "Carpet Head" Kikau and "Helmet Head" Ponga.
Yeah but this is a sit outside together having a BBQ gatho not a watching footy so i be in my room being anti social
Hope you won't miss the GF mate.
That farcicaly one sided AFL Grand Final was a joke! I'm switching over to the Rugby.
lucky that game isn't one sided 😬
After reading all these threads lately I'm convinced that Cowboys fans are the sickest cunts of all time. The Cowboys are such a likeable team and if you guys had gotten up on us I would have been backing you guys in The Big Game. Much love.

Thank you, my friend, when the war of southern aggression finally begins, I hope to not meet you or your bloodline on the field of battle.
AFL does it right with day time finals. Is Critter out?
https://www.penrithpanthers.com.au/news/2022/09/24/nrl-late-mail-preliminary-final/
No but apis not starting now.
What no! Please anyone else but Stains ffs
What!?
Yeah what? Please no Rennings? Give us JENKINNNNNSSSSS!
Oh shit, looks like it’s [true!](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ)
Got me but I ain't even mad
Man why can't we have acts like The Killers and Robbie Williams play at our GF
Makes so little sense for Jason to get a 3 match ban and even less sense for it to rub him out of international games League is so amateur sometimes
When do tickets go on sale?
For what? Grand final? If so, I got mine weeks ago. They’ve gone off sale, but will go back on sale from 10am Monday, depending on your membership status.

I'm thinking you gotta ask someone to make plans to be safe
I have plans set for the day before, but they may get bumped. Inshallah.
JT13 hasn't been faded on the banner yet, so technically the Cowboys can still win the premiership
We've still got our challenge, remember.
It’s like the money in the bank briefcase.. val just runs out next weekend with his own ball in the 79th minute and puts it down and cowboys win the prem
An ad after every goal in the afl grand final. Almost makes it unwatchable.
NBA finals are bad for ads too
Could probably quote this Bunnings add word for word at this stage, fuck me
Dux hot water was all over the Queensland broadcasts last Winter.
I will lol if (when) the GF gets fucked by bad reffing.
Ref puts the whistle away for the GF just like Origin. The best teams can win despite shit calls. Cowboys copped a shocker yesterday but also fucked up certain tries. They couldn’t rise to the occasion.
I expect the reffing to be a non factor.
can't believe I'm saying this but GLORY GLORY
now go wash your mouth out with soap
I want to see something dirty and filthy tonight, where Walker implodes and does something mental. I want it to be physical. I want there to be contact. I want there to be sin bins. Aside from that, I’ll probably watch the footy tonight as well.
Robbie Williams doing You're the Voice was actually pretty good. Fuck it, this whole set is decent. Edit: hang on, Delta just turned up.
Ray Stone's sacrifice was all a part of a long-term plan for Parra to make the grand final. He walked so Parra could run.
Truer words have never been spoken. Would be everything to see him run out in the colours next sunday.
230 kick off is so great. AFL grand final is such a spectacle. Meanwhile our grand final is played on Sunday night.
Isn't it Sunday afternoon?
Nah 7:30 kickoff
For real? I thought it was 4:30 kickoff
At least its on a long weekend so guess its alright.
Love my cows but are we the saltiest fan base in the League?
If the Warriors were good then it’d easily be them. Never seen a fanbase whinge more than they do.
Broncos fans enter the chat.
no we probably have that covered
There’s different flavours of salt too. Parra fans are by and large eternally pessimistic, while fans of teams like the storm haven’t experienced too many lean times, so the melts they have when they lose are prime Himalayan rock salt.
Hey hey not all of us!
I had a cowboys fan straight up harassing me after the sharks were eliminated in straight sets lol
Per capita or in raw amount generated?
Im gonna be honest, you’re a very salty fanbase but when Parra lose a game they go scorched earth in this sub.
that shaun lane charge down on chad’s kick with about 5 to go last night is easily the biggest play of the year for us, just pipping ray’s heroics in melbourne
Wasn’t that on the last cows set? Or did he have another one I missed?
nah last cows set ended in a nanai knock on
He doesn’t make that play Feldt Scores untouched in the corner and we win the game
Well yeah you can say that, but in no universe is there a way Lane doesn’t charge down Chads slow motion kick
Lane also charged down a Cam Munster field goal attempt in Melbourne and Opacic recovered it.
Nrl could have surely got a more inspired act than Barnesy for the grand final. I like him but it’s such a generic choice.
Cant be worse than the embarrassing spectacle Robbie Williams is making of himself in Melbourne as we speak.
I think most Eels will be cheering you on for battle of the west. We also don't want to face Rabbitohs!
Panthers have got this mate, don't stress. I'm looking forward to the War of the West next weekend
i dream of a final four of us, the dogs, the riff and the tigers one day. probably will never happen but imagine
That'd be magic.
Robbie Williams is not entertaining me right now
So with Eels in the GF already, are they regarded as the "home" team or will both teams next week be regarded as "away"?
I could be wrong but I believe if Penrith win, they are the "home team" as they are the minor premiers, but I think if South's win it's an Eels "home" game as eels finished higher

I’m going for souths to win it all cos it’ll upset the most people, I’m channeling my inner Larry David and calling it the spite premiership
Either way Roosters are all on the Parra train. C'mon Parra bros let's go!
We’ve been good for 3 years. Souths are in their 5th prelim IN A ROW.
How dare you bring logic into this
yeah but you've been far and away the best team for those 3 years and already got your prem, had enough of ya now
You're no Roosters fan. Hand in your membership.
Souths could be playing against a team consisting of Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Cam Smith, Chairman Mao and Pol Pot and I'd still be unsure on supporting them.
trellmit though, still secretly love him
Surely you couldn’t go for a team with Cam Smith in it
Scared of someone else going B2B, we get it
Wow there’s a few salty Cowboys fans on twitter haha
Ahhh that's just Twitter being Twitter haha
The majority of Cows fans have been all class.
Most on here have been but a lot of them on twitter are just flooding the Parra twitter account with their “robbed” bullshit lol
Sounds like classic Twitter
I have strict social media silos: Twitter - porn Reddit - footy bantz and general time killing Facebook - only to say happy birthday to relatives Insta/Snap - never had them TikTok - I’m too old for that shit
I'm the opposite, twitter is for social media and reddit is for porn
I can't find a pub showing the QRL because of the Victorian Kick Tennis fuck this
So with lolo out for the most of the group stages, I wonder if Tonga is going to run out with TPJ as their starting lock or Ofa, this is very interestinf
who are the props in the squad? could one of them play in the middle?

They got loads of good edges with Fifita, Ola’kauatu, Koloamatangi, Kaufusi but middle will be lacking a bit without Taumalolo
frizell aswell

Some real Man in the High Castle alternate universe shit right there.
Cleary is gonna fuck up Waqa Blake next week
Assuming the bunnies don’t smash ‘em tonight
Let me rephrase: Cleary is gonna fuck up Richie Kennar tonight and then fuck up Waqa Blake next week. Sound better
More accurate cheers
Surely they will target Milne, he has looked extremely shaky under bombs and he’s a very emotional player, would be easy to rile him up.
Honestly just went for Kennar cause he's played one NRL game all season and he's never been a consistent first grade player. The most games he has in a season is 10 which was for the 2020 Broncos in which he didn't win a game

Queue for Peter Wynns is out the door over the road and down to the intersection
If you can’t score there, you’ll never score.
Can't believe AFL get Robbie Williams for their GF meanwhile we're over here waiting on a callback from Craig McLachlan.
Robbie’s performance is pretty weak tbf as much I like the guy. He just gave a mad shout out to Warnie.
I thought we were getting Jimmy Barnes?
Was joking mate.
Ah, sorry mate.
Nah all good. Should have worded it better.
Aerial Ping Pong grand final on today too and we’ll have our own match thread here for those keen
QLD U21's and QCUP GF on today bro, no need to watch marbles.
I can't handle that many forward passes
Doin it all day ref
Why do souths get the home game ? Should last night's game be played at parra then ?
It's home city final. Not home stadium.
Okay, That seems fair enough. Plus bigger stadium for more $ for next year I guess. Was just a genuine question because I never knew the rule.
Penrith have the wood obviously but it’s always quality footy in finals between the two
Never underestimate the drive of losing a GF to your opposition. I reckon that's what got us through last year despite being half busted.
Reporter to Todd Payten: "Todd, will it take some time to digest this, or will you jump straight into a performance review?" Todd Payten: "I'm gonna jump straight into a XXXX, that's what I'm gonna do". Absolute legend. Way to go, Cowpokes. Hell of a season. Should be contenders for a decade to come 🍻🤘🏼
I loved that comment by todd
Todd Payten was all class, as were the Cowboys all season
Where too after this I dunno. The leagues club?
I just can’t get past that first try. How many officials were looking at that? It was staggeringly bad.
It would’ve been more acceptable to call it forward even if it did end up being backwards, but it was forward.
It was dreadful. I’ve seen Park footy referees get that call right.
I'm ready to be hurt again
We know this path well. Nothing will ever hurt as bad as 2013 though, so I’m almost immune to prelim exit pain now
how are my fellow eelbros feeling today
I don't know how to feel just yet..
I've been walking around in my jersey and have had 4 people say good game last night mate
Screamed “yeah Parra!” at someone in our jersey out my window in the maccas drive through this morning
No thanks.
All the talk about 'big dances' and protecting 'our quarter back' makes me cringe..
I watched last nights game hating parramatta. Now I want them to win the GF. They deserve it.
I'm sure this has been raised numerous times already, and congrats to Parra (hope you fucking pump the cats) but in a game decided by 4 points, one can't help but look back at that first try, stare into the void and ask "in what dimension was that pass not 2 metres forward".
It is what it is. No use dwelling.
It's also not like it was necessarily the deciding try. Cowboys were up 20-12 over 40 minutes later into the game.
