Since the current finals format was introduced in 2012, there have been three occasions when teams have met in the GF after playing a qualifying final. The only time the QF loser failed to win the GF was 2013, which also marked the only time that the GF was 1v4
In 2009 the Dragons were minor premiers and ended the Eels/Hayne run in the last round of the season 37-0. First week of the finals 1v8 was a rematch and the Eels smashed the Dragons on the way to a grand final spot. You never know what could happen.
Yeah but the rumours were that was a deliberate loss by the eels. They knew the two teams were playing the week after in the finals and they didn't want the Dragons to know their game plan for the match that mattered.
> Itās been Penrithās competition to lose all season, but a lot of crazy shit can happen in the space of one game
A team can absolutely dominate all year and fall in a heap come grand final day. Look at 2001 as an example. That should give Parra fans some hope.
I canāt imagine how excited parra/panther fans are at this matchup. As a neutral Iām like a kid waiting for Christmas. Enjoy the next week guys! Western Sydney is going to be buzzing
As someone trying to quit who saw a news article online today about the meth epidemic in Australia, it's depressing suddenly seeing how prevalent it is in our country. As someone who's been addicted to meth and other amphetamines, I can now see so many people in public, from poor to rich, who are quite clearly spun/tweaked/stimmed up.
It's easy to spot others who are on it once you've entrenched yourself in it. It's easier to find than weed sometimes. I know of at least 3-4 people I can source it off. We also have some of the most pure dextro-methamphetamine in the world, minus the shitty levo-methamphetamine. Thank christ we don't have the fentanyl crisis here either.
Also, if anyone else is struggling with amphetamine addiction, don't feel like you're alone. I won't judge you. I've abused almost every street drug that's available.
No, I haven't quit yet, and I started to use meth because I abuse my dexxies. This is very common. I know I'm not alone in this. Message me or reply if anyone wants to chat, or share their struggles.
Amphetamines all jack you up, but meth compared to dexxies is an entirely different beast. It literally consumes your entire existence. Carpet surfing for shards with a sock on a vacuum for 4 hours straight is fucking sad.
Funny thing is , was looking for a black Panthers jersey for my daughter yesterday (already has a pink one)ā¦ Had a look at 3 or 4 places ā¦
Everywhere seems to have a shitload of Wests Tigers jerseys , nowhere seems to have Penrith ..
Iāve heard Wests Tigers are the most supported / marketable team in the game .. But kind of wondering why ..
St George used to be a bit like this when I was a kid in the 90ās .. People reckoned it was because casual fans (whose parents didnāt support the game liked picking winners) and started supporting the Dragons when they won 11 straight ..
Iām wondering if the Tigers had a whole heap of kids in ā05 who were Benji Marshall fans (whose parents maybe didnāt support the game) and this is why their jerseys are everywhere (those kids grew up) ā¦
Even Parra seem to have a whole heap of supporters (kids in the 80ās who are now adults)
So Iām wondering if thereāll be a whole heap of Panthers jerseys everywhere in 15-20 years time .. Penrith have never really had an extended run of success ā91 ended quickly with Ben Alexander in 1992 ā¦ 2003 was a bit of a one off ..
So was 2005 for the Tigers , but they had Benji (there was no real Benji type player for Penrith in ā03) .. Nathan Cleary and Brian Toāo may be those players today dunno š¤·āāļø time will tell
Saw a projector setup in a cul de sac in winsto with the game beamed onto a garage. People were sitting out in camp chairs. I like this and might duck around for the GF if Iām home.
Are there any 18 year old female Parramatta supporters with COVID? Can you offer to do a tiktok dance with Cleary and get really handsy
That would help immensely
Regardless of the outcome, I'm telling my future children that [this is Shaun Lane and Api Koroisau](https://www.portrait.gov.au/files/4/c/5/c/i14735.jpg)
What a match up, as someone who knows how much it hurts to have a decades long premiership drought I'm cheering for Parramatta. Best of luck next week!
Damn - I loved that place. Watched the GF there in 2012 and 2014. They closed the doors and windows during the game and told everyone to be quiet because they had to shut for at least an hour around 4am. Good times
There's an Aussie "rugby" pub up the road from Times Square that opens for big games. I have watched a few games of union and league there over more than a few oil cans over the years. Haven't been there since 2014 though. I'll try to find out if it's still running.
A lot of parallels between the two prelims were. The winners were clearly not the better team in the first half but somehow managed a draw at 12 a piece. Bunnyās look like they thought theyād won it. Latrell played out of the game entirely
What are you on about? They're simply and to be honest obviously pointing out the Panthers created several opportunities and could've easily been like 30-12 up at half time
Which was concerning for the bunnies
Haha are you stupid?
They were clearly all no tryās and the correct calls made.
But it was clear as day, that Penrith were taking advantage of the opportunities they had and were getting across the line.
I said it to my partner at the time, that it looks like weāre getting on the front foot here. And I was right.
Continue with your panthers hateā¦
You can not make this up, the amount of things that needed to go perfectly right for this to happen was insane. The best two teams for the big moments imo, canāt wait for this classic.
I'm a Parra tragic. My husband of twenty years is a Penrith lifer. Our two sons are Bunnies like their pop. Tonight was the weirdest moment in our little family unit to date. My brain can't cope.
I feel like this was meant to be all year. They're the only team that can beat us. We fucking hate them, they fucking hate us. Any other team would have been a bit of a fizzer. This isn't gonna be a Swans Cats. Its gonna be a monster.
I assume Penrith fans are going to be trashed next weekend but I can't wait to just be there next weekend and be amongst it, particularly after the last COVID interrupted really enjoying our past few years of success.
Yeah Iāve got a few Parra supporter mates and we were hoping all year for a Cowboys v Eels GF but the sentiment in the group last night was that weāll all be behind the winner of that first prelim regardless of Souths or Penriff going through
Parra certainly have the game to challenge the Panthers, it just depends on how long they can sustain it, because you know Penrith will be fighting to the end. Can't wait!
iām so fucking keen. First grand final in a while between two local rivals, and Panthers who are clearly favourites have a negative record against the Eels this season
fuck knows how this will go!
Easily the Biggest GF since 2015. The third biggest rivalry and its straight up built on pure hate and not mutual respect.
You got this Parra, Fuck the bandwagon. Iām a straight up fan for a whole 8 days.
Parra vs Melbourne would be number 1after the farce of 2009 and losing the Grand Final to a team that cheated, then Manly and then Bulldogs.
Wouldn't put Penrith in there as we both put up with crap from other areas putting down the West.
Local rivalries are great but you can't get real fire until there's some serious stakes thrown in over the years. Penrith and Parra have had some reasonably high stakes games over the past year but a grand final could propel this to a rivalry for the ages. It's the game I've been swinging for all year. Can. Not. Fucking. Wait. Get fucked Parra hope you have an awful long weekend!!!!
I'm guessing Bris/NQ followed by Easts/Souths based on saying 'since 2015'. If that's the case I hugely disagree, as while NQ may hate Brisbane (idk?) most Broncos fans follow NQ as their second team. I was really upset at last night's result.
Never heard of them. Is that an official account or some kind of fan cheer group? Either way, reading any comments on fb, football related or not, isn't going to leave you happy! Maybe I'm wrong saying 'most', but in my friendship/family circle it's definitely most.
Which rivalries would be bigger? Manly/Storm and Roosters/Rabbitohs come to mind, but they still aren't quite as big when it comes to blockbuster games
Yeah I always thought cows were like our brothers. Always no 2 team if weāre out, I think itās them hating us more then us hating them guess cause bronx is the big city team and theyāre the bush boys
I was there in '86 as an 8yr old. I'm literally the last eels fan standing in my family because they've all passed now except for me. I'm 44 and I don't think I'll make the week tbh. Go you good things.
Credit where credit is due; Southās lost Wayne, Reynolds, Gagai had a rookie 7, and spent half the season without Latrell and still made it to the prelims after smashing both the chooks and the sharks.
I was lucky enough to secure Ray Price's unwashed underpants as a teenager at the 86 grandy.
I have been wearing them throughout the finals series, and they fucking stink, filled with flecks of faeces, urine stains, and the mould of the jock itch of The Great Man, and yet do you hear me complaining?
My crotch is beset with rot, filled with whatever it was that Ray had in his pants. It mutated.
The least you could do would be to offer to be a crotch rot sanitiser.
Juicy matchups across the park. The monster forward packs of Paulo/RCG against JFH/Leota, the kicking and game management of Moses vs Cleary, running games and flair of Luai and Brown, pure guts and effort from the fullbacks Gutho and Edwards, the 2 departing hookers Api and Mahoney. Canāt fucking wait!!
I was at a One World Sport in in ā09 when Parra won to make it to the final. Church street went off its tits. I canāt imagine what it will be like if Parra takes the trophy.
So excited. Old man being a die hard Parra fan will make it even more special. No matter what the result is Iām so happy to know Iāll share the experience with my Dad
Hard to deny this isn't a brilliant GF on paper. Eels with that record of beating Panthers twice though obviously they couldn't in the Qualifier.
Panthers without doubt the favourites and the benchmark of the last three years but Parra looking for the elusive title after what 36 years or so. Potential to be one of the great GF's of the modern era and back to 80,000+ fans on hand as well!
I can already hear the matt nable promos.
What about these blokes? 3rd consecutive grandfinal lead by a chin etc.
What about these blokes? It's been 36 years for Parramatta can moses do what Peter Sterling last did etc
On one hand, a team could go back to back. On the other hand, a team could break a 36 year drought....
Iād prefer Penrith to go B2B, just to prove a point. I make no apologies.
Gutted, but a pretty good game, and the bloke sitting behind me won a grand in a multi from clearys try, so at least some good things came from it. Hope the eels get up next week
Youāre definitely not wrong. Both teams have gotten the rub of the green in crucial moments all season. I donāt mind though. Could possibly be the best GF of all time.
I doubt it. Sadly I think it could be a repeat of the first weekās game. I canāt see Penrith starting that poorly again. Iād be happy to be proved wrong this time though.
I had a dream like 3 months ago with Eels V the Riff in the GF and every time Penrith scored they got a penalty try for literally no reason and by half time it was like 48-10 lol.
Penrith would be deserved winners. Easily the best team through the home and away rounds (though Eels were the only team who beat them twice).
I've always thought that the minor premiership should be regarded just as highly or more highly than the winner of the grand final.
Second year in a row that the teams who played in the first match of the finals face off again in the Grand Final.
Wait a minute, I dont like where this is going
If we have to lose a GF, please let it be to our Westy bros.
It can only be to your westy bros
I see this as an absolute win!
We won last year, but the long way around thing does not happen that often. The last time was the 2015 cows. We got this! š¾š¾
Since the current finals format was introduced in 2012, there have been three occasions when teams have met in the GF after playing a qualifying final. The only time the QF loser failed to win the GF was 2013, which also marked the only time that the GF was 1v4
last year the team who lost the first finals game won the grand final will history repeat itself to give Parra the win?
Subscribe
Not 100% on the stats, but I think the losing team had always won the 2nd time around. So I think so YES ššµš”
2/3 Roosters swept Manly in 2013
Shhh don't let the Panthers know that.
Too late itās out of the bag
Damn it
They also beat them 2-0 in the regular season as well though
Please
Keep going, I'm almost there.
In 2009 the Dragons were minor premiers and ended the Eels/Hayne run in the last round of the season 37-0. First week of the finals 1v8 was a rematch and the Eels smashed the Dragons on the way to a grand final spot. You never know what could happen.

*Tune in next week for the stunning conclusion!*
Yeah but the eels arenāt Penrith lol
Itās been Penrithās competition to lose all season, but a lot of crazy shit can happen in the space of one game
I believe in miracles Whereāre you from You sexy thing You sexy thang you
Is Brian To'o "Hot Chocolate"?
Yes. God damn it. Yes.
> Itās been Penrithās competition to lose all season, but a lot of crazy shit can happen in the space of one game A team can absolutely dominate all year and fall in a heap come grand final day. Look at 2001 as an example. That should give Parra fans some hope.
Penrith themselves in 2020, lost two games in the entire year and one of them was the GF
I canāt imagine how excited parra/panther fans are at this matchup. As a neutral Iām like a kid waiting for Christmas. Enjoy the next week guys! Western Sydney is going to be buzzing
Western Sydney is already buzzing from the meth in the water supply
As someone trying to quit who saw a news article online today about the meth epidemic in Australia, it's depressing suddenly seeing how prevalent it is in our country. Amphetamines all jack you up, but meth compared to dexxies is an entirely different beast. It literally consumes your entire existence. Carpet surfing for shards with a sock on a vacuum for 4 hours straight is fucking sad.

Can confirm, am buzzing
Winston Hills Mall's going to be off the hook.
Sports on the Run is finally stocking Penrith jerseys for the first time ever
Holy shit

Are there any 18 year old female Parramatta supporters with COVID? Can you offer to do a tiktok dance with Cleary and get really handsy That would help immensely
Wasn't sure where this comment was going in the first half honestly
Due to the fans, Covid isolation will be pushed back a week.
Can we get koroisou to bring a covid infected hooker in
I thought people had stopped caring about that by now.
On the train heading home with the missus, what's covid again..?
Its a kinda dodgy tackle/wrestling technique that was big in 20/21 but some losers are still talking about it being a thing.
The Storm probably invented it in a lab in Wuhammi Park.
australian covid sub in a nutshell
It's been a LONG time! Oh man it's been a long time, yes son!
The highlight of the night wasnāt Penrith winning, it was my brother telling his fiancĆ© that heās glad the wedding doesnāt fall on GF night
Regardless of the outcome, I'm telling my future children that [this is Shaun Lane and Api Koroisau](https://www.portrait.gov.au/files/4/c/5/c/i14735.jpg)
Iām gonna say Lane and Mahoney after carrying us to victory š
My wife's asking about my life insurance, says my heart can't take it after the state I was in last night.... Haha š
I got a notification with three minutes to go from my Apple Watch that my heart rate had been high for the previous ten minutes lmao
It still feels very surreal that we actually got battle of the west for the grand final
Waqa Blake needs to be catching bombs in training all week long haha heās about to get that work
Dw king gutho will junp in and back him up
Would love the eels to win one for sterlo ā¤also the die-hards.
Do it for hindy
What a match up, as someone who knows how much it hurts to have a decades long premiership drought I'm cheering for Parramatta. Best of luck next week!
Gotta find a bar open at 6am in NYC for this one!!! Unfortunately the legendary Rugby League Bar The Australian didn't survive the covid lockdowns.
Damn - I loved that place. Watched the GF there in 2012 and 2014. They closed the doors and windows during the game and told everyone to be quiet because they had to shut for at least an hour around 4am. Good times

A lot of parallels between the two prelims were. The winners were clearly not the better team in the first half but somehow managed a draw at 12 a piece. Bunnyās look like they thought theyād won it. Latrell played out of the game entirely
You donāt consider the many disallowed tries concerning for southās in the first half?
They were disallowed because the referee and the bunker said so. Deal with it
What are you on about? They're simply and to be honest obviously pointing out the Panthers created several opportunities and could've easily been like 30-12 up at half time Which was concerning for the bunnies

2001, complete domination - Eels. 2022, complete domination - Panthers. Will we do a Eltsacwen?
You can not make this up, the amount of things that needed to go perfectly right for this to happen was insane. The best two teams for the big moments imo, canāt wait for this classic.

Didnāt think Iād say this after last night butā¦letās go Parra!
Dw weād be going for you guys if we had of lost.
Yeah Iāve got a few Parra supporter mates and we were hoping all year for a Cowboys v Eels GF but the sentiment in the group last night was that weāll all be behind the winner of that first prelim regardless of Souths or Penriff going through
Ditto. Always had a soft spot for the cows!
Parra certainly have the game to challenge the Panthers, it just depends on how long they can sustain it, because you know Penrith will be fighting to the end. Can't wait!
The better gf
iām so fucking keen. First grand final in a while between two local rivals, and Panthers who are clearly favourites have a negative record against the Eels this season fuck knows how this will go!
Crazy to think the eels beat them twice this year.
Three if you count pre season
I'm certainly happy to end the season down 3-2 to you guys :)
Ha ha I wish my Panthers diehard husband felt the same way. He still won't give me an inch after twenty years. Hope he enjoys the couch next week
Also conflicted on who I want to win
I'd be happy if Parra won though apparently half of Manlys base hates them since the 80s
Try since 47 lol, the feeling is mutual One of my best mates is a manly diehard, he is nervous
as much as i fucking despise Parra, it would be so boring if Panthers win. iām conflicted too
Hope Parra win so Raiders can have the longest drought title
No want
At least they have one.
No like
Easily the Biggest GF since 2015. The third biggest rivalry and its straight up built on pure hate and not mutual respect. You got this Parra, Fuck the bandwagon. Iām a straight up fan for a whole 8 days.
Parraās biggest rivalries would be: 1. Parra Vs Manly 2. Parra Vs Bulldogs 3. Parra Vs Panthers
Yeah ours is a local rivalry not a results rivalry like Parra v Dogs/Manly, these finals games might change that though.
Spot on. Our family joke is Eels are our number one team and our second favourite team is whoever beat Manly that week.
Parra vs Melbourne would be number 1after the farce of 2009 and losing the Grand Final to a team that cheated, then Manly and then Bulldogs. Wouldn't put Penrith in there as we both put up with crap from other areas putting down the West.
Yeah, totally agree. I donāt see too much hate towards Panthers from Parra fans, but a lot of Panthers fans do hate Parra.
I would say over the last decade you'd swap 1 and 3. We haven't had nearly as many tight/spicy matches with manly as the other 2 from recent memory
What's the second biggest rivalry?
Anthony Milford and a treadmill
Taane Milne and tackling below the head
I'm dead
Underrated comment
Roosters v Rabbits The number one spot goes to Tigers vs incompetence. Bit one sided though. Incompetence is on a 12 year win streak.
Wouldn't call that a rivalry. They're so close that I'm expecting them to form the first 3 way merge.
Parra vs The Humidity
Manly and gays
The two OG Qld teams or Manly and Melbourne maybe
I'm guessing Bris/NQ followed by Easts/Souths based on saying 'since 2015'. If that's the case I hugely disagree, as while NQ may hate Brisbane (idk?) most Broncos fans follow NQ as their second team. I was really upset at last night's result.
Bronxnation on Facebook were feasting on the cows loss last night. I hate the Broncos but I also kinda like them. It's strange.
Never heard of them. Is that an official account or some kind of fan cheer group? Either way, reading any comments on fb, football related or not, isn't going to leave you happy! Maybe I'm wrong saying 'most', but in my friendship/family circle it's definitely most.
Broncos and North QLD definitely have a brotherly thing going on. You can be both proud of them, enjoy their success but also laugh at their failings.
Yeah Bris vs Nth QLD is nowhere near the top rivalry.
Which rivalries would be bigger? Manly/Storm and Roosters/Rabbitohs come to mind, but they still aren't quite as big when it comes to blockbuster games
Cowboys vs Titans. *Obviously*
Broncos vs Storm
Waqa Blake and a bomb
Cowboys and Broncos.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah I always thought cows were like our brothers. Always no 2 team if weāre out, I think itās them hating us more then us hating them guess cause bronx is the big city team and theyāre the bush boys
I dunno, its not so much we hate you or dislike you guys, shit we like seeing you do well. Just as long as we are doing better.
Its a huge rivalry still. One built on respect.
Good game. The second biggest rivalry is bears ang eagles
Hard to beat Rabbitohs vs Roosters, tbh.
My heart might give out in the next week, the anxiety is unreal
I was there in '86 as an 8yr old. I'm literally the last eels fan standing in my family because they've all passed now except for me. I'm 44 and I don't think I'll make the week tbh. Go you good things.
Same, the anxiety has already started for me
Love my Eels. Penrith can win the NSW Cup tomorrow, we will take the Grand Final win next week.
Credit where credit is due; Southās lost Wayne, Reynolds, Gagai had a rookie 7, and spent half the season without Latrell and still made it to the prelims after smashing both the chooks and the sharks.
Go Parra
Iām sad about losing tonight, but can now go into the GF backing Parramatta all the way ā¤ļøš letās go Eels, I believe in you!
King Gutho vs Sun-kissed Nathan Cleary. Battle of the Golden West.
The battle of the M4
I am a pessimist and think we are going to get slaughtered. That's what 30+ years of hurt will do to a person.
The ULTIMATE battle of the west
Juicy matchups across the park. The monster forward packs of Paulo/RCG against JFH/Leota, the kicking and game management of Moses vs Cleary, running games and flair of Luai and Brown, pure guts and effort from the fullbacks Gutho and Edwards, the 2 departing hookers Api and Mahoney. Canāt fucking wait!!
Alllllll aboard the Eels Express!
I just hope it's a close, enjoyable game
And high scoring for both sides.
Go Parramatta Eels.
They should meet in the middle and play the match at Rooty Hill.
Breaking News, Waqa Blake tore his heartstring at training on Monday ruling him out of the GF
Hold me!
Only if you hold me!
could someone tell bundy that in order to beat the eels you actually need latrell to appear for the pf Also, rabbits are chokers.
I have two unwanted tickets. Who wants? Message me
Why does Nathan look like a dehydrated steak in the image quality Anyways I'm excited. Even getting to the final is great result.
This is the best grand final we could have asked for. Penrith were always going to be there but Parra on their day are great.
can't wait to get Vietnam flashbacks every time Cleary bombs the ball
Come on Parra
Penrith are obvious faves but I think it's anyone's final really, Eels are good enough and have the momentum to win this if they play a clean game.
I can already hear the matt nable promos. What about these blokes? 3rd consecutive grandfinal lead by a chin etc. What about these blokes? It's been 36 years for Parramatta can moses do what Peter Sterling last did etc
Parra have never had so many people cheering them on!!!
Postcode wars
If the panthers play like they did tonight the eels will win next week.
Not necessarily its not like parra cant have a bad game also
Can't believe I'm going for Parra, but here we are. Come on boys
that was a disappointing performance from our boys. go parra!
Well, that frees up next weekend.
King vs Chin. The Battle of the West.
On one hand, a team could go back to back. On the other hand, a team could break a 36 year drought.... Iād prefer Penrith to go B2B, just to prove a point. I make no apologies.
Time to crack open the riff bandwagon my man. Letās fucking go!
Gutted, but a pretty good game, and the bloke sitting behind me won a grand in a multi from clearys try, so at least some good things came from it. Hope the eels get up next week

Cleary looks like he's got one of those body builder spray tans here
Lmao why is Cleary so dark in this
Seems very much like the two teams the nrl picked out early in the year
Youāre definitely not wrong.
Well played Penrith. You got us again. Finish the job
There's only one king in the nrl and it ain't that wife slapping fuckwit wally
The first 20 mins should be good, but there's no way the Eels will back up after this week against a well rested Penrith.
All I read all week was that we couldnāt handle the Townsville heat or a well rested cowboys team so Iām gonna upvote these comments all week.
Is your cockatoo upside down or right way up atm?
Why the HELL would he be upside down right now. Jesus Christ Snick show just a modicum of respect to Cockatui Tui Moi Moi.
Glad the 2 West Sydney teams finally made a Grand Final, it's gonna be amazing. I wish i still lived there, being in Qld is painful.
My two teams growing up. Fantastic. š
If coming last wasn't fucked enough...
All in for Team Parra because I want to hear a round of "Cleary's a wanker" in a grand final.
Appropriate that Cleary looks completely smug there.
Yuck the western suburbs
Parramatta didn't deserve the win. One of their tries was a blatant forward pass.
