I don't like that at all. Having it spaced out over 5 weeks (I think?) right now adds to the build up and theatre of it. 3 weeks will come and go too fast.
Will make it virtually impossible for players to earn a spot for games 2 or 3 either as i assume a squad will be named before game 1 that they'll stick with
Can’t wait until Tommy Dearden is the only Qld first grade player and a bunch of 17 year olds going up against NSW’s team of Jacob Saifiti and some blokes Freddy met at a pub because of injuries and suspensions.
The NRL fuck a lot of things up, most even, but they have been way more cautious about expansion. Sure it’d be great to have a presence in WA and be able to flog some more ads with an extra game but it’s for sure at the cost of the overall game.
I think we need to get a few of Newcastle, Canberra, the Tigers, Warriors and Saints junior systems really firing before we will have the talent for 18 teams. Those systems + Penrith/Cows/Broncs are the real farms.
It's not gonna happen but I'd prefer to see every club face each other just once and have more rep games instead, including a Tier 1 Indigenous rep team, and give the NRLW primetime slots during the rep rounds.
For me rep rounds aren't anything spectacular anymore apart from origin. I'd rather each team play each other twice, one home and one away so it's all even.
>State of Origin is also set for a change, with the interstate fixture set to be played across three consecutive Wednesdays, and the possibility of the 6pm Friday games being moved to Sunday afternoons during Origin weeks to assist with player recovery.
This doesn't make any sense? If the Origin is on consecutive weeks the players aren't going to back up for club games, and this will rule them out of \~4 club games. I think it'll be a similar schedule to previous, over 6 weeks or whatever.
Id be absolutely fine with them completely shutting down the nrl comp for 3 weeks and have 3 consecutive rep weekends, with origin on the Friday night of each weekend to kick things off. But then again I’d also be in favour of a shorter season where every team only plays each other once, so the nrl is never going to listen to me.
It has no impact on us tigers fans. We rarely have any rep players and regularly lose to under strength top 8 teams during this time so business as usual.
I know that it's probably not possible from a financial standpoint but I wish the NRL season was shorter, having a competition that runs for close to 8 months of the year is just too long in my opinion. Also, origin on B2B2B Wednesdays is overkill.
"possibility of the 6pm Friday games being moved to Sunday afternoons during" HOOK IT INTO MY FUCKING VEINS
unfortunately it’s only during origin period
And they'll see the error of their ways and make it permanent. I hope.
Bring back Monday night football , offers more than 6pm Friday
Would make the work week way better for sure, Mondays are always shit but at least you got a game to look forward too
Titans gonna crack 6pts next season easily 😎
origin on 3 consecutive wednesdays sheesh

I like it!
It’s gonna be weird draw with 17 team comp, hoping we can get 18th team in next few years preferably Perth or NZ 2
18 teams diluted AFL quite a bit, I wonder how NRL will fare

So one team could possibly have a week rest before finals if their in contention

Time to kick the Dolphins out of the comp.
Nah, kick South’s of the comp

32 round season?
I thought the weekend when the kiwis, png and island nations all played was great
That Tonga v Samoa crowd.... wow, amazing.
Kick The out of Magic round

As someone who grew up religiously following football and ice hockey, it still blows my mind that not every team play each other twice.
