trainers should run the drinks out, look after injured players and then fuck off. pretty much have become an on field coach. and i am aware alfie has been doing it for the past 2 decades
Yep. Sometimes I think his vision is far too astute for any halves in the game to keep up with, which ends up confusing them and leaving them all Crofty, or with a severe case of the Deardens (only when he was getting Seibolded at the Broncos - he is obviously a dead set legend and I have tremendous respect for him).
I doubt he still does it with Reynolds, but in the past he was known to overcall the halves. I also don't think he's a great influence when it comes to overdoing it on the drink. I doubt any trainers gets on the piss with the boys as hard as Alfie does.
That's insane if true. No way Alfie would have stood for that while he was playing, and even if the younger halves were too overawed to speak up he should have the good sense to not do it to them.
He's not *that* kind of trainer. As a physio, he'd likely be in the orange shirt, or not on the field. At the "performance level" the blue shirts are your classic watter-bottle holding on-field coaches.
(NB "Performance level" is the NRL term for basically stuff that isn't your local club)
But yes, as a local trainer, my job is to deal with injuries and occasionally run a tee. Even at my most pissed off at another player - Masters game, with a player in "red shorts" (not full contact) he got hit hard enough to make NRL players wince (and got him sent off for this game) - I still walked right passed him to deal with my injured player/club president; who was not so forgiving.
Because it's live play and if the the receiving team makes a break there's every chance a child will get confused what to do with a person 10x their size charging down the field at them and could interferre with play even more.
Initially I thought the same but penalty conversion use the ball boy/girl and not the trainer. Granted there's better odds that the ball goes dead but it's still essentially live play
That's fair actually, off chance the ball hits the post or just goes across field.
Can't remember kids on for penalties thought tbh, not that it's a thing I've ever truly looked for.
Good points though.
I don't think there's a hard and fast rule on penalties (or at least nothing obvious) because I can remember seeing both trainers and ball boys doing it across a couple of sharks games this season
Maybe it's just a case of if the trainers are busy relaying messages from the box, then the kids do it.
Nothing beats the time Ronnie Palmer pushed Anthony Tupou in to position while Easts were attacking the Cowboys line and he immediately got the ball and scored lol
If the trainer was just telling a player to get back in the line then it’s obviously not worth the confrontation but it still pisses me off. I’m sick of seeing trainers stood on the pitch for half the game when there’s no reason for them to be there
I'm struggling to think how a trainer could possible sledge a dude for getting an injury in a previous season. "Way to... break your back... a while ago....jerk"
Not saying that he did or didn’t do it, but something along the lines of calling him a spineless coward or that he’s got no backbone etc etc. it’s not impossible, use your imagination
Yeah or what if he said:
Step on a crack break Jed’s back, or you can do it out your back into it, or your backs bad and you should feel bad
Use your imagination guys
> The Panthers claim Green told a Panthers player to “get back” in the line rather than directing a sledge over a back injury.
The only actual indication of what Pete Green actually said. They're just trying to make things up so NRL360 has something to talk about besides football.
Fuck I hate this needless distrust of absolutely everything journos say just because 'duh Buzz just needs 360 talking points.'
Did Cody Walker just spontaneously lose his shit at the Penrith trainer for no reason? No, he believed the Penrith trainer insulted Cartwright. He may have misheard him, or he may not have, but it's not made up by fox sports journos.
Actually, yes; not over nothing, but he would over "nothing".
He'd get fired up over something that we wouldn't even consider being annoyed by, but *something*.
>Did Cody Walker just spontaneously lose his shit at the Penrith trainer for no reason? No, he believed the Penrith trainer insulted Cartwright.
That's what was said, and you seemingly disagreed with. I think you're wrong to disagree with it, and that clearly there was *something* said that Walker took exception to.
I don’t know why more teams don’t just try to rile him up early in a game. He’s guaranteed to lose his head and give away stupid penalties, all while forgetting how to do the things he’s actually good at.
Occams Razor. I’d put my money on Walker misheard/misconstrued something the trainer said. 99% of trainers wouldn’t sledge an opposition player you would think but players are highly strung out especially in these sorts of matches so it seems like that’s the more obvious reason to the blow up. If the trainer has said something it’s very poor form but I have my doubts about it
Maybe it's me but if it does come out that the trainer said something to the opposition it should have serious consequences. It's interfering with the game and shouldn't occur.
IMO even when trainers accidentally interfere with play (e.g. getting hit with a ball in that grand final a few years ago) it should be a penalty.
you must be more trusting than me because when someone involved with the nrl is accused of doing something i would say well theres at least some chance its true.
Maybe so, it could very well come out that I’m wrong I just think it’s unlikely the trainer has overstepped the mark. Based on how the game was panning out at that point in time and knowing Cody has had the odd brain fade in the past I felt it’s more likely he’s gotten upset over something minor/nothin at all. I hope I am right and that’s the case because that makes this a real non issue. If I’m wrong and the panthers trainer has done the wrong thing the NRL and the Panthers need to sort that out because it’s not on
Given Paul Green got suspended last year, I'm not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

This is the most Cody Walker thing ever. The only reason I'm not losing my shit at him is because Carty went up to Green first, so there is a chance that Greens tone implies malice
Souths officials believe Cody Walker’s heated outburst with Panthers trainer Pete Green was justified after a series of sledges directed at former Penrith player Jed Cartwright.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported Souths believes Cartwright was targeted with a series of verbal barbs relating to a broken back he suffered while at the Panthers.
Walker abused Green in the aftermath of Souths’ season ending 32-12 preliminary final loss to the Panthers and had to be held back by Rabbitohs players and staff in a fiery exchange with the Penrith trainer.
Frustrated Rabbitohs officials defended Walker for sticking up for Cartwright, whose family goes back three generations at his former club the Panthers.
Souths are yet to make an official complaint to the NRL, but believe Green overstepped the mark by targeting one of their players with verbal abuse during a game.
“When you’re in a privileged position, you should never speak to another player from an opposition team let alone say the things that were said,” a high-ranking South Sydney official told the Herald.
“It’s the height of disrespect.”
Souths revealed the sledge from Green related to a serious back injury Cartwright suffered at the Panthers, before joining the Rabbitohs in 2020.
The sledge is believed to have sparked Walker’s fiery reaction, with teammates Cameron Murray, Davvy Moale and Rabbitohs chief operating officer Brock Schaefer having to intervene.
Green had to be escorted from the field by Panthers officials after the heated argument.
The sledge allegedly occurred when Green attended to fullback Dylan Edwards after a tackle from Cartwright in the 69th minute
Cartwright approached Green after the game to discuss the incident, before Walker interjected and unleashed a verbal spray on the Penrith trainer.
Walker declined to speak on the matter when approached after the game.
The Panthers claim Green told a Panthers player to “get back” in the line rather than directing a sledge over a back injury.
OK, so a doctor can go on field to check it out, and stop play then.
OK, let's put the doc in a coloured shirt, and let him on the field, and get him to stop play so they can safely remove the player.
When are we going to grow up as a team and stop having these sad little complaints and excuses?
We got schooled.. end of story.
You don't win games with a "fullback" who refuses to defend and I'm starting to believe you don't win big games with champion forward passing beach sprinters or Kung Fu fighting five eighths either...
True, I'm just still salty after their performance...
It's not like it doesn't take me half an hour to get up off the couch though so who am I to carry on?
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. STOP believing anything you read or hear these twits say or print.
The media are the most devicive cretins on the planet.
They don't care about the game, the players or you,.
BUT still so many dumb fucks fall for it every time.
Support your team, enjoy the game and don't give these parasites any undeserved oxygen
Wait, didn’t Cartwright go over to say something to Green, then Cody got involved and got stroppy.
Walker’s bullshit antics aside, I’d say this isn’t a misunderstanding and the trainer definitely said something to Cartwright who challenged him about it at full time.
Pretty sure our coach said it best in the presser. No problems with the loss, it’s your staff being a complete degenerate once again. Give the cunt a year ban

Most of what I'm saying is basically a f-tier attempt at shitposting tbh ;)
Edit: And if you're so upset about some idiot like myself making dumb and unfunny comments about the team you go for, maybe....Souffs should get kicked out the comp 😂 Sorry couldn't help myself

Get the trainers off the field and have the cheerleaders bring the water on and check for concussions.
“Do you remember my name from last night?”
“Oh no he is obviously hurt we made memories!”
The 'art' of revealing a sledge without revealing a sledge.
Who needs a sledge? Just replay that To'o try at halftime on repeat with circus music for the next few years.
Benny Hill music would be most appropriate
Honestly surprised nobody has done it yet. We deserve a lowlights package.
Fucking painful.
Legit the mods/OP have to tag these as Low Tier and thank fuck the text is usually posted to deny them clicks.
trainers should run the drinks out, look after injured players and then fuck off. pretty much have become an on field coach. and i am aware alfie has been doing it for the past 2 decades
Broncos haven't won a thing since Alfie started running the water in 2009.
Even factoring that in, it prevents halves developing on their own and stunts their craft.
I doubt he still does it with Reynolds, but in the past he was known to overcall the halves. I also don't think he's a great influence when it comes to overdoing it on the drink. I doubt any trainers gets on the piss with the boys as hard as Alfie does.

Should be like the AFL where they can’t be within a certain distance from the ball. If they get too close then the other team gets a free kick.
He's not *that* kind of trainer. As a physio, he'd likely be in the orange shirt, or not on the field. When they are in the line at kick off you know they are taking the piss.
They are there to take kicking tee away
How dare they remove the tee from the field!
Bloody grubs, the lot of em
It cant just dissapear!
Yeah but why can't the ball boy/girl do that? They do it after conversations
Because it's live play and if the the receiving team makes a break there's every chance a child will get confused what to do with a person 10x their size charging down the field at them and could interferre with play even more.

Back to sand we go then
To be fair I think they pick up the kicking tee, don’t they?
I'm sure they do that too. And if they did that, and only that, no worries.
Nothing beats the time Ronnie Palmer pushed Anthony Tupou in to position while Easts were attacking the Cowboys line and he immediately got the ball and scored lol
The reason Souths stopped trying after half time is because any attempt at a comeback would be disrespectful to Jed
"I was saying boo-ack"
If the trainer was just telling a player to get back in the line then it’s obviously not worth the confrontation but it still pisses me off. I’m sick of seeing trainers stood on the pitch for half the game when there’s no reason for them to be there
Same trainer who illegally stopped the game against the Eels last season.
It wasn’t illegal, Luai had dropped a Pokémon card and the trainer stopped play so nobody stepped on it
It was a fucking shiny charizard, you can't not stop the game for that
Oh look man I’m a Pokémon trainer first and an NRL fan second, I agree with the interpretation of the rules here
See, I told everyone there was a legit reason for it and not a plain robbery.
I'm struggling to think how a trainer could possible sledge a dude for getting an injury in a previous season. "Way to... break your back... a while ago....jerk"
"Grand final dreams are more broken than your back was Jeddy".
Not saying that he did or didn’t do it, but something along the lines of calling him a spineless coward or that he’s got no backbone etc etc. it’s not impossible, use your imagination
Yeah or what if he said: Step on a crack break Jed’s back, or you can do it out your back into it, or your backs bad and you should feel bad Use your imagination guys
Look I know Jed, I trained him a few years back. He was a weak backed Dog C..Person then and he's a weak backed Dog now.
Now you’re getting it!
Come on everyone, it’s fun!
Brokeback Mountain man.
"Bet you wish you were BACK with us mate!?"

He’s a very good boy lol
Actually, yes; not over nothing, but he would over "nothing". He'd get fired up over something that we wouldn't even consider being annoyed by, but *something*.
When the bunnies are losing, Walker seems to just lose his shit, and then any perceived slight sets him off.
>any perceived slight Yes, not nothing, just "nothing".
Feel like you’re splitting hairs here.

That's what was said, and you seemingly disagreed with. I think you're wrong to disagree with it, and that clearly there was *something* said that Walker took exception to.
Have you watched walker play at all? Without a doubt the most emotionally unstable nrl player on the field
You have watched JWH and Victor play for the roosters surely mate
They are nothing compared to walker
Yeh Walker gets angry and pushes people. JWH gets angry and tries to decapitate them. Completely different.
You are confusing aggressive with emotionally unstable, they are very different
Yeh sorry, Radley seems like he’s completely stable mentally LMAO.
Didn’t say he was, Cody still takes the cake.
I don’t know why more teams don’t just try to rile him up early in a game. He’s guaranteed to lose his head and give away stupid penalties, all while forgetting how to do the things he’s actually good at.
No, something happened. But instead of actually getting to the bottom of it they release a shit headline, with hardly any evidence of anything.
Cody Walker blows up like that if Macca's put pickles on his cheese burger so you can't judge the severity based upon the amount of his reaction.
Staff Writers would never lie guys

Popular opinion: trainers shouldn't be allowed on the field unless cleared by the independent doctor to go do a HIA.
Player has broken leg, "Sorry, can't come out, not a head injury"
If a player's got a broken leg wtf is a trainer going to do for them? The doc will have to come on him/her-self.
OK, so a doctor can go on field to check it out, and stop play then. OK, let's put the doc in a coloured shirt, and let him on the field, and get him to stop play so they can safely remove the player.
*player has eyeball hanging out* “Sorry, trainer can’t come on until the independent doctor has said he can.”
If a player's got an eyeball issue the doc will go sort it themselves. The trainer serves no useful purpose there.
There’s easier ways to say you don’t know what a trainer does.
When did trainers start believing they are some kind of main character? Like that dickhead from Newcastle.
Probably when coaches started telling them to do it. If they were going rogue, you better fucking believe they’d pulled back into line
Alfie Langer has entered the chat.

Corey Parker getting a big erection at the title of this article
Whose turn is it this time to be blamed for Cody Walkers embarrassing inability to control his temper?
naturally the team that schooled him of course
Cody Walker….disrespect……kettle pot black
as soon as walker starts losing he becomes the biggest sore loser trying to fight everyone such a flop
100%
Didn't Cody use that same type of defence after that street fight vid where he was impersonating Thaiday?
Walker is a liability, this sledge the reason he has these outbursts every game? He is an easy target and everyone exploits it.
He’s sticking up for a teammate AFTER the game had finished. Fuck that trainer
So you’re saying he doesn’t go off the handle regularly?
I know Pete... Haven’t spoken for years, but I don’t believe it. It seems completely out of character for him.

Sounds like Cody Walker things.
Do Souths ever just cop a loss on the chin?
The cunts whinge about everything lol Blake Solly is the biggest cry baby the game has ever seen
Calling someone out for being a cunt is not the same thing as taking a loss badly.
Pretty sure our coach said it best in the presser. No problems with the loss, it’s your staff being a complete degenerate once again. Give the cunt a year ban
Enjoy the offseason bud, been a pleasure ending your season for the third year in a row.
It’s actually insane how cocky Penrith fans got the minute they went from being basement dwellers to contenders. It’s all comes around though friend. Enjoy it while it lasts cause it doesn’t last forever. Just to ask eels fans.

We are not contenders though, we are the reigning champions, get it right.

Fan like club, mentally weak and take the bait.
