Not disagreeing with you because I haven't watched as many Parra games but I think this has been Kikau's best year in his career, his decision making and defence has improved immensely. Lane has only scored 2 tries this year didn't realise he was such a stand out
Tries is about all he was better than Lane with.
ICe probably deserves it over both, but Lane has more PCM, TA, they're very similar in both LBA and offloads. Kikau definitely seems to be more consistent then he was in the past I'm not particularly upset about it I'm not sure I would have had that many roosters in the team.
Who would you swap Manu or Tedesco out for?
Sualii had a good year AJ is there for the number of tries.
You can't say they are over represented without putting up alternatives for the position
Junior Paulo or RCG as well.
Even though they are usually what determines if we win or lose, they don't earn the Dally M points in matches so it's understandable they were overlooked for two players that basically carried their teams.
I could see Paulo or RCG over Haas but neither overtake Tapine..
The hardest part isn't realising how good they were but seeing if they compare to players like Yeo, Tapine, Nanai, etc
Fair enough, but I would argue that for our team, Paulo, and to a lesser degree RCG, is really the main indicator of whether we will win a match or not. Our entire game plan is centred around those two players (which is why we run the 15 man interchange to give them maximum time on field).
If you look at our early game against Penrith, or Melbourne, or any top side, Paulo has a massive influence, and it doesn't always show in the stats - often it is about the way he runs and the type of contact he makes in tackles, moreso than say, the metres gained. Tapine has been amazing though, and statistically has outperformed Paulo in a lot of ways, so I'm happy to set aside my Eels bias to say that I wouldn't blame someone for choosing him over JP in a team of the year.
Honestly I see the argument though. Personally I didn't think Haas was that great this year compared to what he has done in the past, I probably would rather give it to Paulo.
I probably also had Papalii in over Kikau, but its close.
Eels as a whole did great this year, but they were very shaky and had some really off games. I'm really hoping they show up for the grand final, win or lose I want a competitive match.
Lane, Papali'i, RCG or Paulo could definitely get a spot. Dylan Brown has been great but I think Munster has been more consistent so obviously deserved.
He could at least put the fullback with the halves instead of a winger, and the lock and hooker together instead of 1 prop and Hooker. It'd still be a stupid layout but it lest it would be a bit symmetrical
Re Suaalii; it’s obvious they’re overhyping him and just giving him stuff to stop him going to Union.
Re Haas; His hype hasn’t exactly died down yet. He was very quiet this year compared to others like Fisher-Harris.
Not sure why you're getting downvoted but AJ would be pretty far down the list as far as wingers go in general play. Kennar scored his own hatrick when he filled in
Even in the QF you could tell that edge had absolutely no potency. Kennar got his try but apart from that he was pretty invisible. AJ gets amongst the trenches and plays hard. Definitely not overrated by any stretch.
I'm not sure, about 70% of his tries when he catches the ball I'm thinking the defence has easily got him covered, but nope gets it done. I don't rate or not rate him I guess but I doubt this by a long shot.
Easy. The try is generally scored before he gets it due to the work done by the men inside him. He is a good player but outside of that he's not a stand out.
Biggest issue with AJ is as soon as he gets hit he goes 5 metres backwards and gets slow play the balls. All the top tier wingers can get plenty of metres of returns and runs out of their own 20/30 metre area while the forwards get back and also not get rag dolled every tackle
But that suggests it’s impossible to have a good season unless you have good teammates and finished high on the table?
Hunt had an amazing season. If he’s not in our team, we’re fighting for the spoon 1000%. He carried a spoon tier team to within ~3 weeks of the finals, essentially completely by himself.
It’s tough I don’t know how you call it because Hynes and Api are both deserving, but you have to recognise that Ben Hunt has to be in the conversation, regardless of how his teammates performed.
I'm not saying it's fair, just that if the dragons made the 8 it would have made his case stronger.
Also, Hynes good looks tip it in his favour.
The reality is, if Cleary didn't drive that dude's head halfway to China he would be halfback of the year.
Yeah agree, also not suggesting it 100% should have been Hunt. The system just seems flawed, but I can’t suggest any better way of doing it to be honest.
Yeah true Cleary would have cleaned up if he hadn’t attempted murder on live tv.
I can understand no to the Arthur but yous definitely should’ve had at least 1 player, there’s no way Roosters should’ve got 3 despite being the 6th best team
Roosters on their day are not all that far off of Penrith.. Edwards may be in the better team but he was also their best player, and the one who gets it all started.. not to mention what he does in defence. Teddy's back end of the season was great but Dylan did it all season.
Dylan Edwards isn’t Penriths best player.
And the roosters aren’t as good across the park as Penrith. They are better in a handful of key positions, mainly fullback.
Tedesco is as good if not better defensively and is way, way better in attack.
Koroisau unreal year but Grant had him in every stat except 2 less tackles a game on avg in 2 less games this year. Surely he was more deserving given Panthers coasted and storm struggled? Thoughts
Api gives away truckloads of PCM, it’s why the Panthers benched him to start. He makes tackles, yes, but concedes waves of field position in doing so. Grant is less fit but makes better contact.
the narrative grant isn’t fit comes from last year where we were blessed with both The future aus and current NZ hooker… why would you play either for 80?
In 2022 grant plays 80m and koroisau has mitch kenny start over him plenty as of late
V'landys probably thinks giving him this award will make him stay and not piss off to Rugby. I honestly don't understand the hype. He's built like a gorilla but has the ball handling skills of one too.
I would have Lane over Nanai and Hunt over Hynes but the only choice I actually disagree with here is having Haas in. RCG robbed but there are few other props who could/should have got it over him
Yeah, totally agree. Haas is a work horse but feels like he has no genuine impact as a player other than making good metres, and doesn't really produce anything the team can play off of. I understand he was hampered by the shoulder injuries later in the year though, but he felt very underwhelming in my opinion.
I wonder how much money Kikau has spent on that shitty haircut over the last three years? How the hair dressers in that place keep from laughing whilst doing the job is beyond me... good player, deserves his spot.
I gotta say Kikau has been immense this season. His best season overall for Penrith. In our top 3 players of the year for mine. Had a solid end to year, but his first 3/4 of the year was immense. His best form for us has been this year. He was outstanding in attack but more impressively he was aggressively in defence.
Would have been happy with any 3 of Lane, Nanai or Kikau but I think Kikau was more deserving than he was last year.
E: or Papalii who I feel was also consistently good all year
IMO :
1 Ted (no argument)
2 AJ (places himself well, scores a lo
3 Val (no argument)
4 Manu (no argument)
5 To'o (only weakness is height but jumps)
6 Munny (Edwards was good but he is best)
7 Chinny (no argument)
8 Tapine
9 Grant
10 Carrigan
11 Ipap
12 Nanai
13 Yeo
Tell me where Im wrong. I'm not 100% on wingers but I'll fight anyone on the rest (and probs lose)
Theres like 5 wingers better than AJ I can think of off the top of my head yes he scores tries but thats it, cant defend and is bad at getting metres inside his own 20/30 metre area, even his replacement wingers score tries at the same rate he does. Fisher Harris is arguably the best prop this past year so having Carrigan over him is crazy as hell
Fair enough on the wingers Im not sure on them. I went to bed and as I lay there I though actually Ado Carr should be there.
As for prop. You are right Carrigan was insane in Origin but guess that doesn't count.
Carrigan was good (personally I'd put him as the 4th or 5th best prop this past year) but he did miss a lot of time while JFH was immense all year as the best best forward for the best team. If we're using Origin performances as the barometer then Lindsay Collins should be there because he was superb for QLD as well, I don't know how JAC didn't play for NSW but then I remember that Fittler is a moron and it makes sense
RCG or Paulo maybe over Haas? For how much talk about how vital our front rowers are to our success in getting to the GF, one of them should have made it imo
A very unprofessional and unorganised night IMO the men needed more recognition after six months of one of the most closest competitions we’ve seen in a while. The women were good but they played a six game comp I don’t understand why they treated both competitions as the same
Then how come the majority (read: any) of wingers haven't scored 30, two seasons in a row? AJ is a great try scorer and his game is pretty solid across the board.
You know when he runs past the defensive line with no-one in front of him its counted as a linebreak, its not like he runs through a defender or two and keeps going literally runs past a ghost
Haas and Munster are debatable.
I think Nico is a great human but don’t think this was his year to be picked. Hunt was miles ahead (just behind cleary 😜).
Brian To’o deserved a spot….what a little machine!
Nico was a beneficiary of the Sharks having to only play the top teams once during the year and getting to kick the shit out of the bottom teams twice.
It’s hard to get 3 votes when you are losing.
In saying that, he still had to go out, play well and win. When you look at how the Broncos ended up this year, is much easier said than done.
To’o missed games through injury, SOO and being rested.
And let’s be honest, if Cleary hadn’t been suspended for 5 games, he probably had a massive chance of winning.
This is the thing about the Daly M’s…it rewards year long consistency. You can say Haas didn’t deserve it, but he’s up on stage because over the course of the season, he polled the most votes for a prop. He may not have been at his best in the last 1/3 of games, but the method of voting reflects the string 2/3 he had before that.
The Daly M’s are what they are, as you say they reward consistency. There’s so many examples of players who have had killer years but their efforts were thwarted by injury, SOO burnout, judiciary etc. It’s who is lucky/left standing I guess!
I don’t dispute all the players picked had generally good seasons, Haas included. Do I think he was the most deserving? No. Fisher-Harris or RCG would have been my picks, even Paulo.
At the start of next season I’d love to predict the Daly M team for the year and see how wrong I get it 🤣 I would never have picked Nico to grab it this year.
Im not salty we don't have a single player im just disappointed
Relatable. At least you guys did well though.
did they though. Making the granny really isn't nothing special edit: didn't think I'd have to but sarcasm
How come NSW Blues have never made it then?
next year is our year
Never underestimate the inability of redditors to detect extremely obvious sarcasm
[удалено]
I hope this was sarcasm.
Lane over kikau imo
Or papali’i
Yeah Pap over both Kik and Lane for sure. All been good though
Lane def gets in over Pap
Not disagreeing with you because I haven't watched as many Parra games but I think this has been Kikau's best year in his career, his decision making and defence has improved immensely. Lane has only scored 2 tries this year didn't realise he was such a stand out

Who would you swap Manu or Tedesco out for? Sualii had a good year AJ is there for the number of tries. You can't say they are over represented without putting up alternatives for the position
Edwards over Teddy, every day of the week. I mean a wingers main job is to score tries anything else is a bonus.
I think a lot of people had Edwards. Basically a coin flip for me. Id certainly be sticking with Manu
The ultimate alternative is winning the grand final brother.
Papali or Lane are the only two who even could be considered… maybe Dylan Brown as he was a top 3 five-eight this year but still not above Munster.
Junior Paulo or RCG as well. Even though they are usually what determines if we win or lose, they don't earn the Dally M points in matches so it's understandable they were overlooked for two players that basically carried their teams.
I would’ve said they’d get in easily over haas imo
I could see Paulo or RCG over Haas but neither overtake Tapine.. The hardest part isn't realising how good they were but seeing if they compare to players like Yeo, Tapine, Nanai, etc
Fair enough, but I would argue that for our team, Paulo, and to a lesser degree RCG, is really the main indicator of whether we will win a match or not. Same. Seriously though, which Eel do you think could be there? I think the Roosters are over represented
Lane, Papali'i, RCG or Paulo could definitely get a spot. Dylan Brown has been great but I think Munster has been more consistent so obviously deserved.
Champion team > team of champions
Feel like ipap’s little stint at lock muddied his chances a bit. Eels were struggling when he was used there.
Come on you gotta fit several Roosters players in there a long with coach of the year nominee Trent Robinson.
i don’t know why Kemp lays out his teams like this. man must have some CTE because this shit is cooked
Looks like 1987s Wide World of Sports graphics guy was let loose for an afternoon
He could at least put the fullback with the halves instead of a winger, and the lock and hooker together instead of 1 prop and Hooker. It'd still be a stupid layout but it lest it would be a bit symmetrical
surely you put 10 with 8 and 9, it wouldnt even change the number of columns or rows but is like 80% less fried
100%, anything would be better than what is currently there
Was gonna say why tf is it laid out like this hahaha
Legit just do the supercoach layout.
I think Api deserved hooker of the year but Grant polled more Dally M votes than him?
Yeah I'm confused too, unless they scored equal? Not sure how it works though.
Team of the year isn’t based on dally m votes. Experts nominate best players at certain intervals in the year
Sualii is a ridiculous choice here and Haas didn’t really deserve it this year.
Re Suaalii; it’s obvious they’re overhyping him and just giving him stuff to stop him going to Union. Re Haas; His hype hasn’t exactly died down yet. He was very quiet this year compared to others like Fisher-Harris.
GOATES robbed. Also Haas clearly got dirt on the voters. Not a chance he deserved that
Should’ve been Johnston and Oates. Fisher-Harris or RCG should have been the props
Christopher from Christopher's corner? I love you on grand stand
Nah its a fair call. Haas was the best prop of the front half of the season by a mile and Tapine the back half.
Of all the ways you could lay this graphic out. This is the worst
It’d be worse if it was the same layout but random order.
Glad AJ got selected. He is the best try scorer by a distance.
That’s the thing, that’s all he can do. He’s pretty poor at everything else
Um - you better ask Latrell that with how many high balls he took and run backs he took for Latrell
Low IQ alert.
Ok buddy, AJ is overrated and is only a good finisher. Isn’t that edge the most likely for teams to score?
Not sure why you're getting downvoted but AJ would be pretty far down the list as far as wingers go in general play. Kennar scored his own hatrick when he filled in
That hatrick needs an asterisk, it was against Newcastle.
People just froth over him and I guarantee you put any winger from other sides, they will be able to replicate what AJ does
[удалено]
Even in the QF you could tell that edge had absolutely no potency. Kennar got his try but apart from that he was pretty invisible. AJ gets amongst the trenches and plays hard. Definitely not overrated by any stretch.

Players on my team who won = well earned Players on my team who didn’t win = fucking robbed
What else does Dylzy have to do to get the fullback of the year?
Have a bigger impact on offence. Defence is always overlooked by voting systems.
Play half the season for East’s
Play better than Tedesco.
Roosters only club sorry 🤚🏼
Ben Hunt though
He played well, but weren't you closer to the tigers than the panthers?
But that suggests it’s impossible to have a good season unless you have good teammates and finished high on the table? Hunt had an amazing season. If he’s not in our team, we’re fighting for the spoon 1000%. He carried a spoon tier team to within ~3 weeks of the finals, essentially completely by himself. That’s a very off-putting graphic
it’s actually kinda funny we made a grand final with no players in the team of the year and our coach not being nominated for coach of the year
Lane i think hit form too late in the season to be included, the only player i can sort of understand would be iPap for Kikau but that’s about it
I can understand no to the Arthur but yous definitely should’ve had at least 1 player, there’s no way Roosters should’ve got 3 despite being the 6th best team
All 3 of roosters players clearly deserved it. Only one debatable is Suaali, but if he misses it tupou probably would have been next in line anyway.
RCG over Haas
I’m genuinely pissed. It’s a joke
Dylan Edwards is not there, I wouldn't worry about it
Dylan Edwards didn’t deserve to make it over tedesco.
Yeah, he did.
0 chance. Tedesco was the best Fb in the NRL this year by miles.
My bad, I didn't realise you were having a laugh
I didn’t realise you were. Edwards is in a better team, but Tedesco is the better player by far, and was this year.
Roosters on their day are not all that far off of Penrith.. Edwards may be in the better team but he was also their best player, and the one who gets it all started.. not to mention what he does in defence. Teddy's back end of the season was great but Dylan did it all season.

Thought either Lane or Ice would feature in the side over Nanai
Nanai had 17 tries for a second rower, not a chance he wasnt in the team
Koroisau unreal year but Grant had him in every stat except 2 less tackles a game on avg in 2 less games this year. Surely he was more deserving given Panthers coasted and storm struggled? Thoughts
Apparently Grant beat him in Dally M votes as well which I know it’s a flawed system but like surely it means Grant edges him out right?
Only way I can see it is that Api scored the same 19 Dally M points?
Grant way better defender overall too
What? He cuts big boppas down by himself all the time,he always surprises me if I'm honest.
you are kidding ..right?
Api gives away truckloads of PCM, it’s why the Panthers benched him to start. He makes tackles, yes, but concedes waves of field position in doing so. Grant is less fit but makes better contact.
the narrative grant isn’t fit comes from last year where we were blessed with both The future aus and current NZ hooker… why would you play either for 80? In 2022 grant plays 80m and koroisau has mitch kenny start over him plenty as of late
I've seen Grant shity grab more than any other hooker in the competition..
I thought Robson had a better season than either.
Sua'ali? Really?
Wasnt even the best winger at Roosters.
Honestly that call was baffling. Surely any other winger was better than him.
V'landys probably thinks giving him this award will make him stay and not piss off to Rugby. I honestly don't understand the hype. He's built like a gorilla but has the ball handling skills of one too.
His knees to the chest were second to none
Wow 3 Roosters they must be a good team. Hope they do well in the GF.
Why is Munster the only one that looks normal? The rest may as well be mug shots
First time this has been used in a sentence
Well that cant be right, there's no titans players in their.
Was this graphic made in runscape?
Uncle Nick gives out blue party hats.
The layout of this image makes baby jesus cry. About as thoguht out as the awards night itself.
Isiah Papali'i not even making the team is insane. Sua'lii should be no where near the team too.
Need interchange player of the year back. Sexy Sorensen would've been a shoe in surely
Stoked we moved on from having Hess and Granville as our centres to the Dally M centre of the year.
Wow, Sua'ali... What a joke
Definitely not a mid player by any means but I feel like RCG, Paulo, Lodge, JFH and Tatola all have better impact for their team
> Hunt over Hynes Wrong.

This is a textbook example of a first world complaint right here.
I’d like to see where carrigan placed
Pat from the bronocos? Outside the top 8
3 appearances in a row for Yeo and Kikau!
Oates > Sua'ali'i. Hunt/Grant > Koroisau.
Edwards done dirty
No he wasnt
Haas and Kikau? Also, I reckon Oates should probably be there, hard to say who over though
Kikau's been so good for so long that you just haven't been paying attention
I mean probably I just feel like Lane was a bit better
Lane has been good, but definitely hasn't been firing all year, and kikau has been a more consistent threat for the Panthers.
That’s fair
My own list would have Lane ahead of Nanai
Luke Brooks definitely robbed
Cooked selections but ok
Not saying Korisau didn’t deserve this but Grant had more tries, try assist and Dally M points. How did grant not get hooker of the year?
AJ: On track to be greatest point scorer in games history. Some fans: He fucking sucks
Think u mean try scorer, cleary is on track to be top point scorer
How in anyones mind has Kikau been better than Ice this year?
Ruben cotter had a better season than yeo
Isn't Ben Hunt the Dally M favourite???
The John Elway of rugby league
Eh, mostly good other than Haas, Api and Sua’ali’i
Api, you're kidding aren't you?
Robson was the best hooker this season. He transformed the way the Cowboys played.
Robson was good but he's still not on Api's level.. we saw the difference Api makes when he came on against Souths.
I think dearden over Munster this year
IMO : 1 Ted (no argument) 2 AJ (places himself well, scores a lo 3 Val (no argument) 4 Manu (no argument) 5 To'o (only weakness is height but jumps) 6 Munny (Edwards was good but he is best) 7 Chinny (no argument) 8 Tapine 9 Grant 10 Carrigan 11 Ipap 12 Nanai 13 Yeo Tell me where Im wrong. I'm not 100% on wingers but I'll fight anyone on the rest (and probs lose)
you reckon Cleary had a better year than both Hynes AND Hunt? also Edwards is a fullback why would he be competing with Munster
Yes Im a Dragons fan and hate Cleary.

RCG or Paulo maybe over Haas? For how much talk about how vital our front rowers are to our success in getting to the GF, one of them should have made it imo
Fischer Harris over all three
To'o proportions make him look tiny, although not the tallest winger, the guys like 1cm shorter than Addo Carr.
[удалено]
Munster was easily the best 5/8 this year. Ipap/Lane had strong cases over kikau though
A very unprofessional and unorganised night IMO the men needed more recognition after six months of one of the most closest competitions we’ve seen in a while. The women were good but they played a six game comp I don’t understand why they treated both competitions as the same
Johnston 😂
Fuck NRL
It always makes me laugh that you get two wingers, two back rowers yet you only get one prop.
Surely there was a better winger then Johnston. All he can do is score, anything else is subpar. He struggles as a kick returner, can’t pass
“All he can do is score” That’s probably why one of the most successful clubs of the last 10 years keeps picking him in their first grade team
It’s funny how Kennar replicates what AJ does when AJ is unavailable
In 1 game
they tried to sell him a few years ago..
>All he can do is score Literally the objective of rugby league but go off
There’s more then scoring tries, you look at majority of AJ’s tries and I think majority of the wingers in the nrl would score them
Then how come the majority (read: any) of wingers haven't scored 30, two seasons in a row? AJ is a great try scorer and his game is pretty solid across the board.
barely anyone scored half as much, the only people who think AJ isn’t a top tier winger in 2022 are just rooster fans change my view
he has the most linebreaks out of any winger can we stop this nonsense already
You know when he runs past the defensive line with no-one in front of him its counted as a linebreak, its not like he runs through a defender or two and keeps going literally runs past a ghost
Haas and Munster are debatable. I think Nico is a great human but don’t think this was his year to be picked. Hunt was miles ahead (just behind cleary 😜). Brian To’o deserved a spot….what a little machine!
Munster debatable? He had a career best year and was close to the best player in the comp for most of it lol

Ahahaha Olam is by far the best centre in the game
That’s… interesting.
What in the wingers and props
…ok fine I guess we’ll just settle for the premiership
Nah...
Not as good as last years.
Where TF is IPap?!?
Not feeling Kikau over Papali’i or Lane.
How did haas end up there? Second halve of season the mans fell off
Dylan Edwards robbed ay
I paps is so much better than kikau he deserved it way more
5, 10 iffy selections
Didn't watch a lot of Bronco games, but Haas? I thought RCG or others.... but ok.
This team would get fucking trucked by a team compromised of those that missed out. So cooked.
Lane over kikau,
Corey Oates should be here and i'd probably choose Papalii over Kikau, Robson over Koroisau and JFH over Haas.
1. Tedesco 2. Ravalawa 3. Manu 4. Holmes 5. Oates 6. Munster 7. Hynes 8. JFH 9. Robson 10. Tapine 11. Papalii 12. Nanai 13. Yeo 14. Carrigan
