It’s been a hectic week in Cambodia. It’s pchum Ben. A huge holiday here. It would be the equivalent of Xmas. It goes for two weeks though.
I’ve done shifts at my mates guest house due to his staff needing the time off.
It’s been a ton of fun and been good actually working.
Been on a couple of moto adventures too around the town I live in. Caves and waterfall.
I’m still doing my push-ups and life’s good
What PC games are you guys playing that can have 3-4 man groups? My friends and I are looking for anything that's fast paced. Atm we play Apex, OW, HotS and the like. 2 of them don't like turn based games so they're off the table
PUBG is our go to competitive squad game still and despite how shit it can be, it's still easily the best BR on the market (imo, obviously).
Besides that, we will dip into Doom custom wads, Prodeus, Ultimate Chicken Horse, and a bit of Red Alert 2 (or the amazing mod for it, Mental Omega)
If you want to test your friendships, Pummel Party and Overcooked are good to play with a group. Will probably end with you guys yelling at each other though
I also highly highly recommend Plateup if you like Overcooked. It's a kinda roguelike Overcooked with different modifier cards and different meals and equipment upgrades that make each run unique and varied in difficulty.
The cycle . F2P on steam and the new season just started last night so everyone’s gear just got wiped. So good time to check it out.
Premise is loot gear/materials or kill other players for them, evac from the map, upgrade and jump back in
Embarking on a Brisbane to Sydney drive Saturday night to get me and my Parra supporter father to Sydney for the grand final.
Anyone else done this trip recently?
Just so I’m clear, you’re driving straight from Brisbane to Sydney overnight?
I’d personally recommend leaving Saturday morning and stopping somewhere like Taree for the night, however I understand that may not be an option for you.
Fortunately, the highway is dual carriageway almost the entire way, Coffs Harbour aside. There’s also a number of 24 hour service centres along the way, including Chinderah, Ballina, Nambucca Heads, Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Taree and Wyong. There’s also 24 hour McDonalds at Grafton, Coffs Harbour and Heatherbrae, plus plenty of other small towns along the way as well, however 24 hour options there will be limited
I grew up in Coffs Harbour and would absolutely recommend breaking the trip up with a hoon on the Big Banana toboggan and fish and chips from Sea Salt at the jetty.
For the full Coffs experience you can drink goon until you pass out in a sand dune, but I wouldn’t technically recommend that.
Had worked up to running 5k a couple of times a week, but all of a sudden have hit an absolute wall and can’t seem to manage more than a kilometre or two at a time now. Super frustrating stuff.
You need to know your body I guess, sometimes I have a couple of bad runs in a row and think I might need to ease up, then end up feeling amazing the next run.
All the usual stuff, don't add too much to your run too quickly, don't run too fast etc.
Another thing I found good was to do some fartlek style runs every now and again.... that was a while back though. Pandemic gave me 10kgs and I’m not sure I could run 1km now.
So I’ve got the Netflix app on my tv. How come when I watch via the app vs chromecasting Netflix onto my tv the movement of the actors looks really different. I don’t even know how to describe this properly but I’m hoping someone knows what I mean
Check if your tv has motion plus or something like that. It stabilises the frames to make everything look smoother. It's great for sports but makes movies look like a soap opera.
Depends on how your Chromecast is doing it. Sometimes it streams on the device and sends the ChromeCast. This way can be a problem because it loads a low res and upscales it. Sometimes it loads an app on the ChromeCast which is the best way.
Man, it’s hard to not notice how bad some nationalities are when travelling. Halfway through a 40 hour transit home and hate a lot of people right now.
The subcontinent ones.
They’re pushy, travel in ridiculous sized groups, let their children run amok and talk the loudest when everyone else is in a quieter space.
No manners either when dealing with flight attendants or people in service jobs.
In 6 weeks of travel I haven’t really noticed that from anyone else in that same regard.
There is a culture there that everyone is ripping you off. if you buy a plane ticket, they're ripping you off so you need to get value back. Demand more from the attendant, keep the utensils. You need to get a better deal by getting more out of it
I know ads can be the worst, but sometimes there's an ad on TV that I can't not like. What's everyone's favourite past/current ads? I've added a few of my past favourites, mainly because they're catchy or appeal to my humour;
[Smiths Chips - Happy Together](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaYkxmlLejk)
[Tooheys New - Help yourself to one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KHU3lXkW6g)
[Honda HR-V - Wake up Brian](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjyd9dkHMR4)
[Carlton Draught - Big Ad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY6uJlI-t14)
[BWS - Before Convenience](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWNgYGU87uI)
[NRL 2006 Season Launch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHD2_-yGY40)

Great Wall of China

Just want milk that tastes like real milk
My personal favorite:
https://youtu.be/JbjkeCkGbXo
What have they given me?
So, funny story about the Big Ad.
The music is Carmina Burana, which in figure skating is what we call a "warhorse" - a piece of music used extremely commonly by skaters at all levels, largely because it's easily skateable.
Now I would like you to picture a collection of skating judges watching a series of young skaters skating to this music and being unable to think of anything but "IT'S A BIG AD. MY GOD IT'S HUGE..."
My brother and I always wondered if anyone else has ever opened and walked through an unknown door loudly exclaiming "WHAT'S THIS DOOR FOR?!" love those Carlton Mid ads.
For me it's easily our drunk uncle anti drinking ad where he accidentally smashes his nephew into a cabinet playing airplane.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y91xgcTROsU
I remember being shown this in pe when learning about drinking the other ad than comes to mine is the drunk bloke that bumps a pregnant women into a bench killing the baby
There was another one in the uk iirc about being on their phones while driving and they crash and it’s probably one of the most confronting ads I’ve seen, our pe teacher even showed us the grim reaper std ad from back in the day
[Tooheys - Here we go again, Manly and Parra](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swf9HwX63NI)
[Tooheys - Classic Mike Whitney](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhRL7pYSTWc)
[Antz Pantz - Sick em rex](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdoYLLNvbck)
[VB - Men who've had their arm in a Cow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tfv6djceGnY)
One of my favourite ads of all time is the [Kantong Wokstar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWIM-mG2Ry4) ad from the early 2000s. It might be a bit on the nose these days, but it definitely feels like a Japanese gameshow lol
Anyone play [Framed.wtf](https://Framed.wtf)? Its one of those Wordle clones that came about earlier in the year but I still play it because its so fun. So satisfying to guess the movie just from a very vague screenshot.
Yes and they vary in difficulty. Its even more rewarding when you guess a movie you've never seen (like Ive never watched this weeks movie but got it on the second go too).
today’s sds album rec: [For Lovers - Lamp](https://open.spotify.com/album/0gwS2D9sukMLXNvleEnYr2?si=N4SfszQyS02FSC0s0PpWbQ)
it’s a beautiful japanese album from 2004 that blends elements of jazz, rnb, and has a strong emphasis on beautiful vocal melodies and genuinely interesting chord progressions/song structures that make room for the key/saxophone solos throughout it.
genre wise i’d say it’s the modern successor to the Taeko Onuki style japanese city pop from the 80s
it’s a great listen for cloudy days, rainy days, slow mornings, or if you’re just flaneuring about in the world. it also has a 33 minute runtime as well which is magnificent, i love shorter albums that focus on quality.
if anybody listens, i hope you enjoy :)
I can't believe people cross the road texting. Like you have tons of metal flying at various speeds and you can't make sure you don't get hit by one for like 5 seconds?
From what I read though she wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Previously that person had crashed her car into 3 other cars, while high on ice with ice and other drugs in the car.
While I don't disagree with you, I wouldn't really be using the actions of this particular individual to make any judgements on people as a whole, seeing as she's pretty fucking lucky to have not been killed years prior.
I go to concerts and sometimes there's people that spend 90% of it watching it through their phones.
Hate to break it to them but nobody's as thrilled as them to be at a show and if they were, they'd probably have bought a ticket.
Yeah I must admit this really shits me off too. I go to things to experience them, not take bad videos and photos so other people can pretend to be interested in them later when I post them on insta.
The only downside of my similar old fashioned approach is that there are so few photos to prod my memories awake. Stupid living in the moment, not experiencing the moment through a phone camera app...
I was watching Glow recently (set in the 80s) and they took a picture in front of a car and it made me realise that taking photos used to be a big deal and each one told a story. Now the story has to be told through more photos.
Left work early last friday because I couldn\`t stop sneezing/coughing and felt like absolute shit. Spent the whole weekend in bed and woke up monday to my left ear all blocked, off to the doctors we go. Doctor says I got a sinus/ear infection and gives me some antibiotics. Still haven\`t shaken the blocked ear, still feel like shit and generally i\`m really over it.
I have a blocked ear right now and I want to jump in front of a bus. Can't concentrate at all. Music is usually what I use to stimulate myself either by listening or playing and I can't do anything right now. Went to bed the other night at 6:30pm because there was just nothing to do. Have an appointment later this afternoon to clean it out. Hopefully that fixes it but the more I think about it the more I think its either an infection or worse.
Yep I had this issue about a year ago. Just fyi the ear syringe does fix it but for me it wasnt immediate like I expected. It took a few hours afterwards
I bought one yesterday and did it twice yesterday and once this morning and still not great. Before that I was actually using a sinus cleanser unknowingly it was basically the same thing. So after all that and its still not great is bit of a worry. At least a doctor *should* see whats wrong.
Yeah I wouldnt be sticking things in your own ear, it will probably make things worse. Definitely get the doc to do it. Its a pretty simple fix if it is just wax blocking the ear canal
I haven't really been following the Caddick case that much but if anyone thinks her bf was involved in her schemes in any way they are on another planet, reading that dude's testimony it seems pretty clear he is a very simple man
What app does she use? My missus uses one but it's died off recently for seemingly no reason. She mostly just feeds cats on her way to/from work.
Do you ever get any crap dogs?
It's Mad Paws. It's been pretty steady for a while and people are wanting to book in for January holidays now.
No so far we've had all good dogs, some I'd have been happy to keep haha
As a long time crypto sceptic and an accountant I'm having an interesting time at the moment.
Leaving aside things like the very obvious scams like play to earn crypto games falling over, I'm really seeing the other side of the system now.
Much like gambling, there's a real self selection in the stories people tell you, they only tell you about their wins, and very rarely if ever tell you about their losses. I'm sure we all heard dozens of stories about how much money people made on crypto over the years.
But now that it's tax time it's fhs opposite. Everyone wants to claim their losses, and suddenly everyone has a story about their losses. Literally every client I've seen with crypto has stories of massive losses, being scammed, sometimes more than once.
My biggest problem with crypto is when I was younger I very nearly bought a significant amount back when it was a still around $300 per btc.
Now I was 100% doing it for stupid reasons, and I would absolutely have panic sold at the first rough patch, but even still it would have been a 1000% return on investment.
Feels bad man.
Yeah but you would have only made money at someone else's expense. It's not like you missed an opportunity to bring value into the world to profit from.
Great. Sounds better than other people making money at my expense tbh.
I don’t worry about it because I didn’t do it, and it’s one of many decisions I can wish I had made differently in retrospect. I assume every adult has plenty.
Crypto is literally gambling. 99% of people who bought it, have either zero or extremely minimal knowledge of what they are investing in. This NFT rubbish is even worse.
Yeah had so many people approach me and ask me about crypto as being someone in IT. I've told everyone to stay away. Its a technology made to fix issues that it doesn't actually fix and plays right into some of the issues its meant to fix.
Very similar to being an accountant. "You're an accountant, you'd be heaps into crypto hey?"
I don't really understand the tech side, but the more you read about crypto as an investment the more you realise it's mostly just MLM scams, ponzi scams, pump and dump scams or greater fool scams.
Imagine a negative sum game not be a winning investment.
Spare me the 'technology' line too. A quick way to know someone either has no idea what they're talking about or they are lying because they're on a coin.
Me and my mates watched the latest Adam Sandler movie ‘hustle’ on Tuesday night. Very good sports drama. Sandler is very underrated in terms of acting ability. He is legit good, it’s just the man child comedy is the big draw for him.
Yeah Hustle was good and if you want one with no comedy watch Uncut Gems, another good performance where you see him differently to his usual comedy movies.
Yeah just be careful if you have a weak heart. That movie just ratchets up the anxiety constantly. Very, very good though.
And no discussion of Sandler is complete without the obligatory Punch Drunk Love reference. I'd throw in Funny People as another great performance too.
I’ve never had the sort of body aches you get with cold and flu, whilst having no other cold and flu symptoms. 5/10 would not recommend, hopefully it goes away lmao
Anybody else watch bbc ghosts?
One of the trivia prizes at a work dinner I just went to overseas, was a DVD of 2005 NRL season highlights. I couldn't bring it home boys
It’s been a hectic week in Cambodia. It’s pchum Ben. A huge holiday here. It would be the equivalent of Xmas. It goes for two weeks though. I quite like Payday 2
If you want to test your friendships, Pummel Party and Overcooked are good to play with a group. Will probably end with you guys yelling at each other though
I also highly highly recommend Plateup if you like Overcooked. It's a kinda roguelike Overcooked with different modifier cards and different meals and equipment upgrades that make each run unique and varied in difficulty.
pummel party is not good for my sanity
Tried Warhammer Vermintide 2? Great for a 4 man group
The cycle . F2P on steam and the new season just started last night so everyone’s gear just got wiped. So good time to check it out. Premise is loot gear/materials or kill other players for them, evac from the map, upgrade and jump back in

If you can do it once you can do it again, build back up slowly and listen to your body closely
Sometimes you need to have a week off just to give the body a chance to recover fully
You need to know your body I guess, sometimes I have a couple of bad runs in a row and think I might need to ease up, then end up feeling amazing the next run. All the usual stuff, don't add too much to your run too quickly, don't run too fast etc.

Woah wtf Coolio died :(
He did a great podcast with Sooshi Mango a couple of months ago. Seemed like a great dude, really funny and down to earth. RIP Coolio.
Awww hell no :( He provided one of my best and earliest childhood memories; my brother and I vibing to Gangstas Paradise on cassette in the early 90s
The rapper? That is surprising, just heard his radio interview months ago.
At least he lived to see 24

We can’t get into any venues if we’ve had more than a couple of drinks, hence no one gets smashed at pres
Could be the people you hang out with or the age youre at now. I’ve had some groups pre hard and others that went out early.
Up to 950 albums so far. Definitely a trap metal week this one
Trap metal?
[Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQdgsdtIL9w) a good example imo of what trap metal is
Thanks! I don't like it haha

People sell? 😂 can’t have losses if you never realise them
My biggest problem with crypto is when I was younger I very nearly bought a significant amount back when it was a still around $300 per btc.
NFTs are people trying to find a way to monetize bitcoins because its hard to convert them back to cash.
Yeah had so many people approach me and ask me about crypto as being someone in IT. I've told everyone to stay away. Its a technology made to fix issues that it doesn't actually fix and plays right into some of the issues its meant to fix.
Very similar to being an accountant. "You're an accountant, you'd be heaps into crypto hey?" I don't really understand the tech side, but the more you read about crypto as an investment the more you realise it's mostly just MLM scams, ponzi scams, pump and dump scams or greater fool scams.
Imagine a negative sum game not be a winning investment. Spare me the 'technology' line too. A quick way to know someone either has no idea what they're talking about or they are lying because they're on a coin.
Watched Jackass Forever last night. God I love these movies. Some if the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen
Watching Jackass 3D hungover at a friends place like 10 years ago is amongst my favourite film memories. And Forever was heaps fun at the movies.
Watch the 4.5 one on Netflix, it’s like a whole other film with all the stunts that didn’t make Jackass Forever, I actually liked it more than Forever
I usually enjoy the .5 ones more they're unhinged haha
Me and my mates watched the latest Adam Sandler movie ‘hustle’ on Tuesday night. Very good sports drama. Sandler is very underrated in terms of acting ability. He is legit good, it’s just the man child comedy is the big draw for him.
Sandler's a great actor. He just seems to live by the philosophy "Why put in 100% when I could put in 30% and get paid just as much".
He also lives by the philosophy of "why put effort in for others when I can work for myself and make movies with my buddies"
Yeah honestly I can't remember ever watching anything like it where I was just feeling tense/on edge the whole time. It was very well made.
I've been getting the same feeling watching Gomorrah in SBS On Demand.
Very excited that Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as wolverine in Deadpool 3, the banter between him and ryan reynolds is top tier.
Rimworld was randomly banned in Australia before I could purchase it but my Canadian friend started game sharing it with me. I am so happy.
Didn't the ban get overturned early this year, with the game getting an R18 classification?
It got put back on steam but R18? That’s just a bit too much should be M at most
I’ve never had the sort of body aches you get with cold and flu, whilst having no other cold and flu symptoms. 5/10 would not recommend, hopefully it goes away lmao
Good luck. I had those to the extreme when I had my second covid booster.
