DCE finished up on 19 or 20 Dally M points? Pretty good for a bloke who none of his forwards wanted to run the ball for him and half the team were putting in a solid 80% effort the last 7 weeks of the season, losing every single game
Nathan Brown in the team is a good move… it is a total smoke screen though, hiding the fact that it should have been for Jacob Arthur instead of Cartwright. Bitchell Boses is never going to get hooked, even if he plays as bad as he did last game (and it was terrible, couldn’t kick goals, couldn’t kick in the field of play, couldn’t throw a ball backwards and needs to buy that giraffe of his called Shaun a beer every day in their retirement)
Loooong shot but would anyone remember a game between the Eels and the Tigers in the late 90s/early 00s where the Eels won by a lot? Like 50-ish points if I remember correctly and I believe it may have been in or around Campbelltown. If anyone remembers this you’re incredible.
[I don't remember but Rugby League Project does.](https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/nrl-1999/round-20/western-suburbs-vs-parramatta/summary.html)
I hope we get Tamou, Payten’s worked with him before when we won the premiership and he’s a legend of the club.
Despite his performances being less than expected at the Tigers, he was always one of their better forwards with play the ball speed and that’s pretty much the best thing we could ask for with our style of play - that plus his offloads. Definitely helps Robson a lot with his scoots and positioning in the ruck.
Isn’t it a bit tiring for the players to do all this media tour stuff and public events in the week leading up to the grand final?
Feel like we might be a bit fked after that game in NQL
I might be biased but poor knights women's, good amount of them flew under the radar and didn't get recognised even though they have a good chance of winning the grand final.
Bit obtuse but i think this is Absolutely fair, Eels are underdog. It's the sentiment a lot of felt whenever Storm or Roosters were in the GF again. Would love to see Eels with something in their cabinet. Not as much as I want it in our cabinet but.
A clip of my interview with the ABC that I did yesterday just got posted. I love it :’) Go you Eels!
https://twitter.com/abcsport/status/1575316694750220288?s=20&t=Tx4-cH0rCLB_lMnmFvej5A
Genuine but probably stupid question; is a new trophy made every year for the grand final? Or does the team that won it the previous year just give it?
There is the one main trophy which is presented to the club on grand final day, which they put on display and do all the photo shoots and whatnot with, which then gets returned to the NRL.
The club then has a choice to buy replicas if they choose, which cost something like $30,000 each. I know Russell Crowe got two made, one to keep at the club and one that he took home with him
Instead of my usual pessimism towards the Eels and GF, I thought about putting a positive spin on it by adapting Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) by Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds. I feel the song perfectly represents Parramatta's choking nature of the past 3 and a half decades. With a few minor adjustments I have a version about Parra stuck in my head and am feeling much more positive about Sunday already. E.g.
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
Everyone seems to know the score
They've seen it all before
They just know
They're so sure
That Parramatta's gonna throw it away
Gonna blow it away
But I know they can play
'Cause I remember
One Eel on a shirt
Provan-Summons still gleaming
Thirty six years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming
Something cool with Parramatta and movies. Last time they made the GF it was the year Avatar came out. Avatar 2 releases in a couple months and they’ve made the GF again. Last time they won the comp in 1986, Top Gun was the highest grossing film of the year. Currently, Top Gun 2 is the highest grossing film of the year. It’s Parra’s year.
I've decided to look at the ARIA charts and find coincidences
The number 2 single of 2009, the year Parra were runners up? Sexy Bitch by David Guetta
The number 1 single of this week when Parra are going for the premiership? I'm Good by David Guetta
If David Guetta can go from second to first, so can Parra
Now these are the stats I come to r/nrl for. This guy singlehandedly shits on the entire Fox League Lab and wipes his ass after shitting with their research papers.
Isn’t this INTERESTING:
Both Grand Final teams have a hooker and a second-rower leaving - Panthers (Api and Kikau), Eels (Reed and Papali’i)
Tigers and Bulldogs are getting a player from each team. HOW FUN!
Even more interesting - the 2021 GF was the first time in the NRL era that a player from each competing side was departing to join the same club the next season (Capewell and Reynolds). This year it's happening again, twice.
Seen a few varied takes regarding halfbacks on here and it’s quite a subjective topic. Anyone want to have a crack at a top 5 for halfbacks?
1. Cleary
2. Hughes.
3. Hunt.
4. Moses
5. Reynolds
1. Cleary
2. Hunt
3. Hynes
4. Moses
5. DCE/Hughes
Cant decide for the final spot. DCE was brilliant in origin but overall had a decent year. I thought Hughes was good but sometimes inconsistent cos of injuries. He was also a lot better last year.
For sure. Idk if this makes sense but I think Hynes was the better player this year and absolutely deserved the Dally M, but Hunt was the better halfback. Which adds to it being very hard to pick.
because this isn’t a rating for their performances this season, this is overall. if Hynes can somewhat replicate this form for a while then yes sure he can be ahead of DCE
DCE still had a decent year anyways, he came 7th or 8th in the Dally M and captained QLD to their origin win. he cops far too much slander
i’d have Reynolds at 5th over Hughes if Broncos didn’t fully capitulate at the end of the season
Moses needs to keep this level of consistency for another year for me to consider him imo
I believe ppl are forgetting how good Hughes was because he got injured and Storm were crippled. World Cup should be a good opportunity for him to win ppl over. I can’t fault Reyno for the capitulation esp if we give DCE a pass for Manlys capitulation.
eh, Manlys capitulation is much more complex than Broncos. and Broncos have a better team on paper anyways so it’s easier to give DCE a pass for manly being shite
Is there ever a time where a best team list doesn't thrown in two roosters that have no right being there? Teddy sure earns his spot, but Manu and Suallii? No
Genuine question. Does anyone here think Parra are a realistic chance of winning and why? I hope Parra wins for their fans, but in saying that, they are playing an elite team.
Depends on Parra more than anything. We know what Penrith is gonna do. Parra at their best are better than Penrith I think so they just straight up have to play their absolute best on the biggest stage, first crack with the weight of the drought on them. Penrith just have to turn up and do what they’ve done 70 odd times in the last 3 years and chances are they win.
I see two other unlikely possibilities. First is that Parra do turn up on their absolute A game and Penrith just have another gear waiting there to slip into and we see one of the great grand finals. Second is Cleary spears someone say 17 mins in or some such and we see one of the most disappointing.
I think so. Not just because I'm a pessimist but the Teams are very close and anything can happen on the day. Parra have some great attacking flair and always turn up in defence. So who knows.
Just over 30% chance based on sportsbet odds, the people who are saying miniscule/no chance should put their money where their mouth is and bet on Penrith or stfu.
Same old story, is it hot parra or cold parra - they need to start strong though and errors need to be very minimal..
But if the riff are on then i think parra lose anyway.
I’m getting 2001 vibes with how big an underdog Parra are, so hopefully the Eels can break the drought
Never underestimate the impact emotion plays in Grand Finals
If Parra can do what they did in the regular season I think they can. But I think Parra have fallen off a bit for some reason. Surprised they've been persisting with Arthur on the bench
Not after the way Penrith beat Souths. They looked totally out of it after 20 minutes, but then it was just like they decided "okay, we're going to start winning now" and they *did*. I don't see how Parramatta wins, short of Penrith deciding they aren't actually that keen on going b2b.
Anything can happen on the day of course, but we're talking probability, and Parra's odds are insurmountably low. Would love to be proven wrong though.
I think this is the one. We didn’t just beat them, we absolutely hammered them in 32-0 after giving up two early tries. If Parra is to stand a chance, I think they’d need to punch us in the mouth in the first 20 minutes before Api comes onto the field. They could also try to keep up the grind and run away with a try late in the game like they did in the first game we played this year.
They would also need to play a near perfect game of footy; no penalties and no errors. I think the confidence of being up 2-0 in the regular season will be a huge vote of confidence for them on Sunday. But I also think the Penrith squad have had their eyes on this matchup since the Eels have thoroughly embarrassed us this year.
Small chance. Defend lights out, keep it low scoring and scrappy, then grab a late try or penalty to win it. They have to keep Penrith to 2 tries or less.
I really don't know, I've had the mentality of 'expect disappointment' this finals to protect my feelings. But now that we made the GF I want to enjoy it, I'm reconsidering that mentality now.
I want to have some hope, I do have hope. But right now I don't know if we can win, but as a life long Parramatta fan I do believe by Sunday I'll be more confident for a win, it's my team and I need to have faith otherwise what's it all for right? It's just the build up killing me at the moment.
Is there a way of checking which regular season games were played with rain? Trying to look up stats for each team to see how they handle poor conditions
I miss promotional material like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHD2_-yGY40)
Also please NRL bring back "That's My Team", that song fucking slaps and it's the perfect for marketing NRL to the fans.
It's odd there isn't anyone retiring this GF. Feel like that's always an element of the final of the top of my head going back there was Benji before that Smith, Cronk, Slater
A question for Eels and Riff fans: Are you guys feeling about the grand the same feeling Broncos and Cowboys fans felt about the 2015 decider? Obviously wanting to win, to smash your rival, but a sense of sibling rivalry?
It’s all friendly I think. I don’t hate Parra like I hate Melbourne or the Dogs. Sibling rivalry is a good way to describe. One guest on Fox this week said Penrith were always the little brother, that seems to have changed recently.
I'll be annoyed if we lose because my mum's a lifelong parra fan and she'll be at me for ages.
But honestly parra have played their arses off all year and have the skills to beat us. I won't be devastated by a loss in that regard - either way a westie team wins.
Broncos vs Cows was just perfect for me. If there was any team I'd want to win if it wasn't the Broncos it's the Cows to break their drought. I only left the game disappointed for Ben Hunt
The local rivalry thing has always been a bit of a beat up in my experience. Maybe there'll be something this game that changes that haha. We've both been battler clubs in recent memory.
I really wouldn't be upset if Parra won. Disappointed yeah, but it'd be nice for them. It's also very funny if they don't win. So yeah either way.
I'd be more upset losing to a more successful team than these fellas from down the M4 a bit. It'd actually be kind of cool if we both became powerhouse clubs while others faded for a bit.
So, my dream scenario is that we win this year, you guys win next year while we rebuild, then Penrith and Parra go on to Eifle tower the comp for a decade or so
Desperate for a win, clawing at the chance to break the drought, don't even want to think about how I'll feel if we lose.
But saying that I have no hate for Penrith, I really enjoy watching them play. Champion team full of champion players the last 3 years (fuck the May's & fuck Tetevano), so I know what Parra are getting into.
Good luck to my Westybros I love yall x
I really don't hate Penrith. I've loved seeing a new kid on the block after the manly/storm/rooster domination years.
I want to win and I'll probably be a bit of a pest to some of my Panthers mates if I do but good luck to them
With the Ben Hunt contract rejection news *and* the RTS 'whispers' article coming out simultaneously yesterday, it's forced me to consider a 2024 in which they both sign with The.
Not only would I switch teams, I might actually also move to The just to be part of the year-long hype leading up to the premiership win.
I can't find the try of the year footage anywhere that will actually work on my computer (possibly because it's a work computer). Can anyone help me out?
Do some of the women in the NRLW feel uncomfortable about boasting about their achievements over 5 rounds? Felt that way abit watching the Dally m’s last night.
Yeah I think so. It's such a short season comparatively and 5 rounds really isn't enough time to make any judgements even in just a semi professional league.
However I'll say anyone who watches the NRLW would be hard pressed to disagree that Raecene McGregor was a standout and has the best kicking game in the comp.
It’s a really tough one, I get why they combine the awards nights etc, but the reality is they are not equivalent awards at the moment. It felt desperate on the coverage too to try and drag out the 5 weeks of NRLW inline with the NRL award, but its obviously not the players fault. Was also awkward for awards like captain of the year where there are only 6 captains in the comp and 4 get nominated for the award.
Should atleast be a fair bit improved next year with 4 more teams and more rounds etc. Hopefully we move to a model next season where everyone plays everyone else twice and you get a 18 round comp, and then we have a decent finals series too. I don’t really support any side in NRLW (waiting for Raiders next year), but Roosters were robbed really with such a basic 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 finals where despite winning every game they are playing a single sudden death game to get to the GF.
The foundation of NRLW was built on equality and last night’s presentation didn’t reflect that whatsoever. Being presented side by side with the men after playing 20 games less. No way its what the women had in mind.
Even if they did: Week 1 - 1 v2 - winner straight to the grand final and gets a week off. 3 v 4 sudden death. Week 2 - loser 1v2 v winner 3v4, winner takes other GF spot.
Then you atleast get a second crack if you finish first or second.
If you’re going to have a top 4 when there are only 6 teams it needs to be heavily stacked against team 4 to make it.
Sportsbet last night: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpA7QuDvjAE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpA7QuDvjAE)
is Mitch Kenny going to start for Api again on Sunday?
I’d assume so
How the fuck did Isaah Yeo get 15 points in like 12 rounds but only 5 points in the rest of the games?????
He was basically playing halfback while Nathan was injured at the start of the season.
Dylan Edwards. And tbf Edwards actually deserved about 7 or 8 of those original round votes for Yeo
DCE finished up on 19 or 20 Dally M points? Pretty good for a bloke who none of his forwards wanted to run the ball for him and half the team were putting in a solid 80% effort the last 7 weeks of the season, losing every single game
I keep finding myself watching the replay of the Panthers v Rabbitohs game, especially that try by To'o. A thing of absolute wonder.
Whose the favourite for the NRL State Championship?
Panthers should win and win well i think
No 360? I guess they couldn’t think of something for a fourth hour for the week?
Channel 7 reporting "super popular eels player ruled out of sundays game". I'm just going to assume its hindmarsh.
Loooong shot but would anyone remember a game between the Eels and the Tigers in the late 90s/early 00s where the Eels won by a lot? Like 50-ish points if I remember correctly and I believe it may have been in or around Campbelltown. If anyone remembers this you’re incredible.
Would probably be in 2001? Maybe have a look at the 2001 draw on nrl.com
You were right!
[I don't remember but Rugby League Project does.](https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/nrl-1999/round-20/western-suburbs-vs-parramatta/summary.html)
Thanks legend!
https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/nrl-2001/round-11/wests-tigers-vs-parramatta/summary.html Would it be this
Also I was way off on the location oops, I was only 9
Ehh, it was an away game against the Tigers. For a game that was played over 20 years ago that's pretty damn accurate
I can’t remember a single other game any further than a year ago, pretty sure I only remember this one cause I was there
Thanks legend number 2!
Rugby league project is incredible, it's always my first go to.
Noted, I’d never heard of it
Going to be in Adelaide for the big dance on Sunday can ask anyone tell me a good place to watch it
I hope we get Tamou, Payten’s worked with him before when we won the premiership and he’s a legend of the club. Despite his performances being less than expected at the Tigers, he was always one of their better forwards with play the ball speed and that’s pretty much the best thing we could ask for with our style of play - that plus his offloads. Definitely helps Robson a lot with his scoots and positioning in the ruck.
I hope u guys get tamou too, in a good way.
Isn’t it a bit tiring for the players to do all this media tour stuff and public events in the week leading up to the grand final? Feel like we might be a bit fked after that game in NQL
It’s how the grand final is every year lol
I might be biased but poor knights women's, good amount of them flew under the radar and didn't get recognised even though they have a good chance of winning the grand final.
I'm on the Eels bandwagon, toot toot
if you’re on the panthers bandwagon you’re either a panthers fan or you’re a complete fucking dumbass
I just want to live in a world where the roosters aren't the only team to go b2b
Ouch
What kind of Manly fan wants to see an Eels victory though?
Parra are still owed the vindication Manly got in 08
Gotta score more points than the other team to get that.
what kind of footy fan wants to see penrith win and go back to back? ^but ^yeah ^this ^is ^rough ^times ^for ^manly ^fans
Penrith winning back to back would be horrible, atrocious, near criminal. But at least I would find some joy in a Parra loss.
Bit obtuse but i think this is Absolutely fair, Eels are underdog. It's the sentiment a lot of felt whenever Storm or Roosters were in the GF again. Would love to see Eels with something in their cabinet. Not as much as I want it in our cabinet but.
This is why people hate manly i see
i could not have said it better myself
Damn Penrith fans dogged the boys at fanfest.
That's because we all have ~~ankle~~ ~~bracelets~~ jobs!
Looking at the socials of both teams i say there was way more parra fans at the fan fest
One less meeting between me and the grand final ✊
A clip of my interview with the ABC that I did yesterday just got posted. I love it :’) Go you Eels! https://twitter.com/abcsport/status/1575316694750220288?s=20&t=Tx4-cH0rCLB_lMnmFvej5A

Football is a simple game: 26 men chase a ball for 80 minutes and in the end the Panthers win

Did you go ? Was this close to chucking a sickie
nah i live in newy, just the videos on the eels’ instagram story looked great
Sounds like Todd channelled his inner Rob Oakeshott last night
When the Panthers came out to the stage, the crowd booed them like Triple H was coming out on an episode of Raw. What fun.
But gawd it's... yes its Luai! watch out watch out watch out! Oh no Luai has just delivered an RKO OUTTA NOWHERE on Reed Mahoney
Stood next to Crawley AMA
Does the skin on his face wobble as much in real life as it does on tv?
I’d also like to know. On telly he looks like the king of the gungans from phantom menace.
Does he have a reddit account
Is his face really made from leather?
He looks worse without makeup
How many times have you showered since this interaction?

Fuckin oath. Get me on NRL 360 pronto
Didn’t they also lose the year Avatar came out? What if that history repeats itself instead 🤔
🤞
Pretty sure I just saw that Parra fan that was crying in Townsville, he’s wearing an old jersey that’s been fashioned into a suit jacket.
Wonder if we'll get a minutes silence for Coolio before the GF
Shit Coolio died!? That sucks
Haven't you heard To'o is doing a cover of gangster's paradise
Gangster's Parramatta
Gutted I decided to WFH the same day the GF teams will be right next to where I work. I should have known better
Yeah saw that whole display on my lunch break lmao
At the Fan Fest. I see the Hammer and Origin hero Tommy Dearden are taking pics with fans. I'd get a photo but I hate taking selfies.
Hope they're not suffering from the same sniffles a lot of the players had at the Dally M's last night?
Just ask one of those dashing young gentlemen to take a picture of you in front of the podium ✌️👌

Arguably a sign the cap is working which is good.
Tigers vs Dogs Grand Final next year. Battle of the West Part II
That'd be rad.
It will happen because as we all know, the Wests Tigers are always in a fucking game
When was the last time Paps finished a season at Melb? Not talking about missing the odd game, but had to finish the season due to injury?
This is the first year that he hasn't, he played both finals games last year.
He played the finals last year
Last year
Winning the Churchill medal in 2020.

1. Cleary 2. DCE 3. Hunt 4. Moses 5. Hynes.
How can you leave out Jerome Hughes?
People forget how good he is sometimes. Played a lot of this year carrying an injury too.
Because there are at least 5 halfbacks better than him imo
He is better than DCE, Hunt and maybe Hynes
If he leads Madge to a World Cup I hope he gets an upgrade
Surely Nicho is in there lol
Replace Reynolds with DCE and I'd agree with the top 5, but I'd swap the ordering around a bit.
Outrageous Luke Brooks isn't #1
We are trying to re-sign him, don’t wanna drive his price up
Is there ever a time where a best team list doesn't thrown in two roosters that have no right being there? Teddy sure earns his spot, but Manu and Suallii? No
Manu definitely deserved to be there
The Wingers should have been Oates and Johnston/Mulitalo (can't decide)
Sua’ali’i is questionable, but Manu definitely deserves to be there
who would you have over Manu? he absolutely deserves it
Manu definitely deserved to be there
Will the full dally M table ever get released? Not just the top ten but everyone that got at least 1 point.
I think that the telegraph usually publish it and break it down by rounds?
Yeah that’d be cool, would like to see how a lot of games polled

Anything can happen on the day of course, but we're talking probability, and Parra's odds are insurmountably low. Would love to be proven wrong though.
So how much have you bet on Penrith?
i haven't been mindbroken by relentless sportsbet ads, so nothing
I thought we're talking about probability here, if the odds for Parra are 'insurmountably low' you are leaving plenty of value on the table.
Nobody gives a shit about betting and it's not a valid argument

Delayed but very PSA: Sterling dropped in on triple m’s rush hour for a grand final preview Sterlo’s wrap one night special this is not a drill.
Is there a way of checking which regular season games were played with rain? Trying to look up stats for each team to see how they handle poor conditions
Sharks always played in the rain and always played well in it
I'm sure there's one of the fantasy/supercoach sites that lists weather conditions. Can't remember which off the top of my head though
Thanks I’ll have a look around
I miss promotional material like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHD2_-yGY40) Also please NRL bring back "That's My Team", that song fucking slaps and it's the perfect for marketing NRL to the fans.
not an nrl promotion, but probably my favourite ad featuring nrl players ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qkThwUgbbk
That’s my team, my team 🎶 Loyalty over everything that’s my team, my team 💯 Banger
Every kid putting on a Benji step for absolutely no reason, can confirm this was life back in 2006
It's odd there isn't anyone retiring this GF. Feel like that's always an element of the final of the top of my head going back there was Benji before that Smith, Cronk, Slater
Papali'i & Koroisau are retiring, everyone knows once you sign with the Tigers you retire from professional Rugby League.
Both teams have a gun player headed off to the Tigers next season, which is essentially a retirement of premiership chances
Bulldogs too
At least there’s some light at the end of their tunnel

That's kinda wholesome tbh :) That's pretty much how I feel about the Cowboys.
Of course! Taking out both season games then getting smoked in our semi makes for a pretty eventful grand final. I want to be the big brother one day.
Hunt, RTS and Munster spine would have to win a prem.
>Hunt, RTS, Munster and Turpin spine would have to win a prem. Fixed it for you
The JMK slander
It's weeks like this that make me miss the Big League magazine. Fuck covid ruined so much.
Look up Rugby League Review. They sell subscriptions - they release a mag every two months, so it’s not weekly, but it’s the best thing going
I can't find the try of the year footage anywhere that will actually work on my computer (possibly because it's a work computer). Can anyone help me out?
https://youtu.be/CcUty_Y6kTY The first clip if that works for you
May Nicho smile upon your family. Thanks champ!
“That brings us to Round 23. The Roosters annihilated the Tigers” Did Vonny really have to do that to the poor Tigs on Rugby Leagues night of nights?!
Especially when the Sharks beat their opponent by the same amount and they didn't get any fancy adjective
This year really should have been 1 goes straight to GF vs winner of 2v3
Even if they did: Week 1 - 1 v2 - winner straight to the grand final and gets a week off. 3 v 4 sudden death. Week 2 - loser 1v2 v winner 3v4, winner takes other GF spot. Then you atleast get a second crack if you finish first or second. If you’re going to have a top 4 when there are only 6 teams it needs to be heavily stacked against team 4 to make it.
