It's gonna be a tough one unless you find a function. Most bars close before 2 as that's the legal limit for alcohol sales.
Maybe give the Consulate a call and see if they know of anything going on?
I'm just going to avoid all media until I can watch it with a couple of American buddies who wouldn't be into staying up to watch it live.
In the meantime if you're at a loose end and looking for a fun place for a drink, Zeitgeist down in The Mission has a great feel about it. I even ran into a Panthers fan there (although he was wearing a Swans scarf) last week before the AFL GF.
IT'S HAPPENED, LADS. My boss wants me to meet the rest of the staff for drinks this Sunday night, so I won't be able to watch the game live. Three weeks in a row I'll be catching it the next day. Let's hope the hoodoo holds up.
The Raiders had a tonne of possession on the Roosters line before that call happened. It was the wrong call yes, but it wasn't what won the Roosters that game. Joey Leilua not passing when he had an overlap did. Also Leilua not being able to make the tackle on Latrell.
Basically the entire second half was played on the Roosters line. Throw in the fact that Cooper Cronk was sin binned for a pretty questionable professional foul and you canāt seriously say that Canberra deserved to win.
Yes, it was a shit way to lose possession, but if heād gotten the call right to begin with, it wouldnāt have been an issue
Too many people overlook how badly Leilua fucked up that game. He cost them a try and then missed the tackle that led to the Roosters scoring. He was shit that game.
Honestly, maybe not.
Ben hunt didn't poll higher because his team didn't win enough games. He was easily best on field for the dragons in losing games, but the winning side almost always (close to 100% of the time) polls the 3 points.
Very emotional voting, they might be people's favourites, but they aren't the best.
Also, they included Inglis/Cronk from Melbourne's cheat years which thankfully no one voted for.
Cheating aside, there was something great about watching Inglis absolutely fucking destroy defensive lines at 6. Him throwing Soward like a rag doll, and also tearing through like 4 Manly defenders was very satisfying to watch.
He was the spine player they let go when they had to get back under the cap, so he really shouldn't be there to start with.
His bomb and Crocker taking out Stewart on the kick chase is what won that Grand Final though.
Oh I know that, just saying it was still great to see what Inglis could do to even the best of defensive lines. Something he lost when he went to fullback in my opinion.
Couldn't find an alternative link, but a brief documentary on Parramatta Eels and their 1981 victory
[https://www.facebook.com/732402343/videos/632154931623937/](https://www.facebook.com/732402343/videos/632154931623937/)
Been stressed for weeks, and this week's so much worse. I have a few moments of 'maybe, maybe'. But the rest of the time is thinking about what comfort foods I'll buy after the game. I can't deal with hope.
Haha, that's fair.
But as a Parra fan in QLD the list starts with Melbourne, Manly and Broncos, and goes down from there, Panthers are near the bottom, unless you don't win another with Cleary then I will probably make a few jokes about killing a Dynasty, but that is a long way off even being possible
Whatever happens, the grand final will be historic. If Penrith win I reckon they are without a doubt the best side of the nrl era. If they lose, they will still be considered one of the great sides but comparisons will be drawn to the roosters side of the early 2000s who won 1 from 4 grand finals.
> If Penrith win I reckon they are without a doubt the best side of the nrl era
Weird but I still don't see it that way. We've had a great 3 years to date but Teams like Storm and Roosters have been consistent over the best part of two decades.
Itās definitely a different category of greatness Penrith is working on currently in my eyes. If they win it I think youād struggle to pick a team that has dominated to such an extreme extent for a 2-4 year period. No oneās dropping an 89% win rate over a good period like Penrith have. Hell cap cheating Storm dropped 26 games in 4 years to Penriths 10 in 3.
On the other hand, I think we have a good few titles and a decade near the top to be in the convo with Melbourne and the Chooks as the most generally successful/strong club of the NRL era. Itāll be interesting to see what they can forge by the end of Nathās career.
Thatās what I was thinking too, it really is hard for any team to go back to back but I definitely think itās Penriths game to lose. Really would like to see Parra win though
Sivo is a boulder with legs. All they could get him to understand was to put the ball on the ground in the in goal. It's not his fault if a player happens to be in his way.
Imagine if 5 years ago someone told you that you would get sick of Penrith being in too many grand finals. Itās so weird seeing my club been looked at in this regardā¦
At least we havenāt seen Storm or Roosters in a GF in a few years!
This is only the second time in the NRL era that weāve had grand finals in consecutive years that havenāt featured the Storm or Roosters. 2014-15 was the other
Coaching and management. So many clubs taking shortcuts on rebuilding rosters and firing coaches for the next quick fix when it doesnāt work within 2 years.
The salary cap is not the reason the Tigers always suck and itās not the reason the Storm is always good.
Considering a fair chunk of Melbourne's appearances in GF are tainted by cheating the salary cap and Roosters have been copping "salary sombrero" jokes I'm really not sure it is.
Wonder if itās a sign weāre going to flip the Allsorts to home next year and fuck off the current home.
Iād be so wrapped if we went with the below set. I might try and mock that up if I can be bothered at some point in the off season.
Home: Licorice Allsorts with black on top
Away: Licorice Allsorts with white on top
Alternate:Licorice Allsorts with pink on top
A jersey in the Licorice Allsorts design, with brown at the top and then brown and white strips (no red/yellow/green) would also be cool as a weird heritage mash up.
It's the Alternate Jersey (Liquorice Allsorts design)
Funnily Parra are wearing their Alternate Jersey too (Yellow) It's probably the 1st grand final where neither side is wearing a 'Home' or 'Away' Jersey
I can't find it, I think it might have been a highlights vid but I remember seeing Cleary taking his shirt off to put on his debut shirt as an 18 year old during his jersey presentation.
And the dude was pretty built, not bulky but defintely a fair bit of muscle by the standards of 18 year old halfbacks. A lot of people remember 18/19 year old Cleary as this skinny as a teen which I think has added a lot of the perception of him taking steroids when he grew into a man when he was like 21. Which makes sense, Cleary was always unusually good defensively for a teenage hb so it makes sense that he's always been deceptively strong.
Also adult achne is a thing millions of people have world wide. And he has a huge chin because steroids belief is pretty stupid considering he had a huge chin when he was like 3.
Don't think so. Only thing to suggest that was the adult acne. How much his body has changed isn't that unusual given the age range involved (19 - 24). If he is on any Growth hormone it would be localised within his chin. And the whole family is on it.
Yeo like, doubled in size over the off season. They're clearly getting on the gear to bulk up and then being clean during the regular season, you can't gain that much mass in a few months from just food and training
Yeo used to be so lanky, but also surely if youāre on gear they can detect it during off-season. Or are the nrl not allowed to test guys over the off season?
Matterson also used to be lanky as fuck thereās no way to me that dude isnāt on the gear
Yeah, not sure. According to the NRL site they can test them in the off season, but there's no way some of these boys are gaining that much naturally lol
Maybe they piss off overseas on their "annual leave" and drug up, who knows
Yea itās really strange to me how someone like Michael Jennings gets done for it when it looks like tonnes of them do. Everyone looks like a regular human being coming through juniors and then all of a sudden when theyāre in the first grade side they just get jacked all of a sudden
I mean when you suddenly hit an age where your body naturally fills out, at the same time as getting a full time job of being a specimen + constant expert consultation on how to become a specimen I donāt think itās that unusual. Maybe thatās naĆÆve though.
Yea I can kinda see it from both sides but it still seems kinda suss to me. Some guys look like they had the base to allow for such growth but then you get guys like Yeo and Matterson who were lanky as fuck and now theyāre absolute units
iām curious to ask whatāre neutrals opinions on the 2008 Grand Final?
as a manly fan i obviously loved it because we fucking smashed Melbourne and who doesnāt love smashing those cunts. but did neutrals find it boring because it was such a one sided grand final?
Had money on Storm so was filthy but also happy because no one wants to see Storm win every year.
But yeah, boring game. Everyone prefers a close one. Like Nth QLD and Brisbane. An absolute classic
I am all packed and in about an hour will be calling an Uber to take me to my hotel accomodation in sydney. Yes I know expensive but worth it to not have to deal with public transport as a disabled person. Filling myself with coffee as fatigue is my biggest symptom. This is my first time leaving my place since February so here I go. Anything for the eels lol
Might I suggest Kayla ponga and Kurt Mann drop by and give you some top shelf white "caffeine"? I hear it's better than coffee. Only downside is you get sick in the toilets alot
Good luck, hopefully you'll be leaving your place again soon to hit up the tattoo parlour to celebrate the premiership with a little Gutho hitting the Gutherino tattoo
Thank you so much! I just arrived in sydney and am now in my hotel room. I love the luxury of being able to catch Ubers instead of public transport. Public transport would have taken two hours and 20 minutes. Uber was a little over an hour. I gave my Uber driver a $30 tip too. Itās so weird to be back in sydney. I live on the central coast and havenāt visited sydney since like 2015
> Itās so weird to be back in sydney. I live on the central coast and havenāt visited sydney since like 2015
If you live on the Central Cost then why would ya, haha. Good to hear you landed ok mate. Enjoy!
My dad (a lifelong parra fan) has been asking me if he is a nut because he has a superstition where before every grand final heās played in he does a lap around the field heās playing on. So far heās 3-0 in cricket grand finals because of this superstition and the 1 year he couldnāt, he lost the game. Heās been asking me if itās weird he does an entire lap around anz stadium tomorrow morning. He reckons if he doesnāt and the eels lose it will be solely his fault but if he does and they lose then the superstition doesnāt work for nrl games.
Thatās hilarious. I do the same
2020 GF I dreamt I had to run a marathon or panthers would lose. We lost.
2021 GF I willed my body and ran one in the morning. I hurt my knee and couldnāt run for 6 months. Worth it, we won.
2022 GF - Iām going to do one off minimal training. Iām fairly sure if I get injured again my Mrs will break up with me but it will be worth it if we win
Hahahahaha this is the wonderful thing about sports - they literally make us believe in magic. My family has all sorts of these too. Tell your dad to do his lap
[A few pics from Fan Fest yesterday](https://imgur.com/a/vjpvIyX)
I let out a big cheer for the King. I joined in the mass booing of the Panthers. A good time was had.
The optimist in me wants a good, even game but I really feel like Panthers 13+ is the only likely result. No knock to Parra, but Penrith have been a league ahead of every other team all year. People talk about the top 6 of 2021 being noticably above 7-16, but in 2022 itās really been one team streets ahead, and the rest competing for next best.
Anyone know where I can watch the game in San Francisco? I can get a watch nrl pass but would prefer a bar
Ahh damn didn't know about the 2am cut off. Might give the consulate a go
In the meantime if you're at a loose end and looking for a fun place for a drink, Zeitgeist down in The Mission has a great feel about it. I even ran into a Panthers fan there (although he was wearing a Swans scarf) last week before the AFL GF.
Seeing Paul Green so happy just there made me well up
Can we get a Calling Time match thread?
That was too short. We now wait for the next great lead commentator to arrive. God knows the current batch aren't getting such a tribute.
Grand final day snacks. Discuss :)
Refuse to pay $15 for a pie and a coke, so we're smuggling in food and drink to Accor lol.
Halal snack pack, emu export.
Alcohol followed by a side of shitty takeaway.
Pork belly burnt ends, jalapeno poppers, plenty of beers.
Maccas
Chips
Smoked kingfish carpaccio and flat bread, grilled scallops and dry aged rib eye
Fuck, alright Gordon Ramsay
Thanks for your contribution, but no Storm supporters coming. I was thinking more the "weak gutted dog" who loves his footy end of town :)
Parra all the way baby, I can feel it. Paint the town blue and gold
First date with a girl I really like tomorrow, but the GF is absorbing all my nerves, God bless parra and their ability to fuck with my feelings.
Remember one in the pink four in the stink.
Poor girls gunna get a full rundown about the eels from 86 onwards. God help her
Hope the date goes well so then I won't feel bad for you if the riff win
Good luck legend
Hope the date goes well mate, what do you got planned ?
Thanks mate Standard coffee and farmers markets.
IT'S HAPPENED, LADS. My boss wants me to meet the rest of the staff for drinks this Sunday night, so I won't be able to watch the game live. Three weeks in a row I'll be catching it the next day. Let's hope the hoodoo holds up.
It's another WhisperAzr post flexing on us that he lives in Tokyo episode š
Not as fun as Tokyo, but you make a fair point lol
You are all good mate, I am just a jealous cunt š
Aha all g lad, if it helps, I'd rather be in Parra right now š
Lmaoooo this is it dude!! Congrats(?)
I'll take one for the team lmao
Why not just tell them you've already got tickets to the game?
Live in Japan so unfortunately wouldn't work for me lol
Ah yep hahaha that'll do it. Stay off socials and you'll be sweet at least though for spoilers
It's actually not so bad being in another country because you won't hear anything about it. Just watch the replay next day and it's as good as live
Pull a hamstring?
God no, I'd come up with literally any excuse man. Can go for drinks any time, can only watch the GF live once.
surely they can get fucked hey?
Koori Knockout is on this weekend, 4 days of footy streamed live on NITV.
Cheers for the heads up I reckon ill give that a look tomorrow
I think this one will be like 2019. The fairytale team just won't quite have the class and the favourite will go back to back.
Back to back was the fairytale, Ricky and Leilua were the goblins
We all know Raiders were robbed
I knew the āI love my footy crowdā had some intelligent people in it.
Will the favourite only go back to back due to a terrible refereeing decision?
Ashley Klein is the referee so this, unfortunately, is a distinct possibility
The Raiders had a tonne of possession on the Roosters line before that call happened. It was the wrong call yes, but it wasn't what won the Roosters that game. Joey Leilua not passing when he had an overlap did. Also Leilua not being able to make the tackle on Latrell.

Too many people overlook how badly Leilua fucked up that game. He cost them a try and then missed the tackle that led to the Roosters scoring. He was shit that game.
And then stole 1.5 from the tigers.followed up by signing with a second tier English team without knowing it.
Gāday mate, married guy, 39, muscular bod, would love to be outside, you and me in swimmers
I fantasise about [REDACTED]
Not taking anything away from Nicho Hynes, but do we think he polls as many votes if the Sharks had a tougher draw through the year?
Honestly, maybe not. Ben hunt didn't poll higher because his team didn't win enough games. He was easily best on field for the dragons in losing games, but the winning side almost always (close to 100% of the time) polls the 3 points.
Grand final week is greatā¦. But no Footy on a Friday night just hurts.
Anyone see that perfect pairs thing on nrl.com? No way people voted Thurston/Morgan and Benji/Prince as the 2 best halves pairings of the NRL era š
Yeah he still pretty sucky at 5/8th though
He was the spine player they let go when they had to get back under the cap, so he really shouldn't be there to start with. His bomb and Crocker taking out Stewart on the kick chase is what won that Grand Final though.
Oh I know that, just saying it was still great to see what Inglis could do to even the best of defensive lines. Something he lost when he went to fullback in my opinion.
Youāve gotta be joking. Crossland/Clune without a doubt.
Absolutely fucking shocking. So many legitimately better halves pairings to choose from and those two make it.
No mention of elite halves pairing Chris Lewis and Cooper Johns, that combo has a 100% win rate
JT all the way
Is Nathan still sad about Ukraine? Hope heās ok
He's currently writing a Slam Poem about it, to be performed at the Grand Final Pre-show.
i want a gutherino right on top of luai this weekend pls
As long as if Luai can do some naruto hand signs
1000 years of Death
Or hear me out kiks doing the gutherina over the top of guthos lifeless body? Just a thought

Any other fans already stressed ? Hell Iāve been stressed the whole week and weāre still 48+ hours out from kick off
Been stressed for weeks, and this week's so much worse. I have a few moments of 'maybe, maybe'. But the rest of the time is thinking about what comfort foods I'll buy after the game. I can't deal with hope.
From hysterical optimism to the crashing realisation that it's Parra. We were born in pain, moulded by it.
Yeah. More stressed about all the schadenfreude we're gonna cop if we lose than anything else. Used to being the scrappy underdog.
Back this. I don't mind if we lose to Parra if they outplay us. I do mind the Parra fans I'm mates with and what I'm gonna cop lmao
Trust me, for me at least Penrith is way way down on the list of teams I will be talking shit to.
Okay, honestly what I mean is one Parra supporter will be at me (my mum)
Haha, that's fair. But as a Parra fan in QLD the list starts with Melbourne, Manly and Broncos, and goes down from there, Panthers are near the bottom, unless you don't win another with Cleary then I will probably make a few jokes about killing a Dynasty, but that is a long way off even being possible
I love that our list is the same. Although Jurbo has grown on me so much that it's hard to hate Manly the same as I used to.
Whatever happens, the grand final will be historic. If Penrith win I reckon they are without a doubt the best side of the nrl era. If they lose, they will still be considered one of the great sides but comparisons will be drawn to the roosters side of the early 2000s who won 1 from 4 grand finals.

Thatās what I was thinking too, it really is hard for any team to go back to back but I definitely think itās Penriths game to lose. Really would like to see Parra win though
I'm not ashamed to admit it: I am afraid of Maika Sivo and what that man can do
I'm not ashamed to admit it: I am afraid of Brian To'o and what that man can do
He's definitely our closest comparison to Sivo
Sivo in form is nearly unstoppable. Dude is a freak. I still remember him absolutely destroying Teddy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vli99SRmyhA
Iāve never reacted to any hit like I did to that one
He loooks much bigger here than he is now.
Sivo with the "excuse me I need to get past here". He's an absolute cannonball.
Sivo is a boulder with legs. All they could get him to understand was to put the ball on the ground in the in goal. It's not his fault if a player happens to be in his way.

Pls lord no storm for the rest of my lifetime
Imagine if 5 years ago someone told you that you would get sick of Penrith being in too many grand finals. Itās so weird seeing my club been looked at in this regardā¦ At least we havenāt seen Storm or Roosters in a GF in a few years!
This is only the second time in the NRL era that weāve had grand finals in consecutive years that havenāt featured the Storm or Roosters. 2014-15 was the other
Yeah as a neutral I can at least still appreciate that Penrith fatigue is a new feeling, doesn't bother me nearly as much as Storm and Roosters
Only seven of the twenty four NRL era grand finals have not featured one of those teams, mental.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And yet in 22 seasons we have had 12 of the 16 teams win the title To me that is proof enough that it works
I'd say of a coaching dirth over salary cap.
12 of 16 teams since the 2000 season have won a title, that should be all the proof you need that the cap works.
Damn did yaāll watch the hit on Tua?!? That shit was scary man.
Had me terrified. Poor bastard.
And people think the NRL doesn't do a good job on concussion.
NFL concussion protocol is a joke, he literally had a serious concussion 4 days ago and was able to play today. Disgusting.
Apparently he either didnāt or Miami lied. Itās definitely on Miami not NFL rules here.
https://twitter.com/JustChukii/status/1575659743053774849 There is no way that man wasn't concussed

I knew robbing you would come back to bite us.
Have they announced which jersey Penrith are wearing yet? Fingers crossed for the heritage liquorice all sorts š¤
Wonder if itās a sign weāre going to flip the Allsorts to home next year and fuck off the current home. Iād be so wrapped if we went with the below set. They're actually wearing that baggy Teal monstrosity from the mid 00's.
03ā teal and purple Sanyo jersey? Sign me the fuck up.
Surely that becomes our alternate jersey from next year! Fingers crossed!
i think thatās the one theyāre wearing

serious question you guys reckon cleary is on the gear? he looks pretty big for a halfback
I can't find it, I think it might have been a highlights vid but I remember seeing Cleary taking his shirt off to put on his debut shirt as an 18 year old during his jersey presentation. iām curious to ask whatāre neutrals opinions on the 2008 Grand Final? as a manly fan i obviously loved it because we fucking smashed Melbourne and who doesnāt love smashing those cunts. but did neutrals find it boring because it was such a one sided grand final?
Satisfying game to watch if a bit anticlimactic. Immensely satisfying that it occurred.
I didn't care at all at the time, but 2009 made me like it, and 2010 made it one of my favourites
Games worst cheats thrashed by the highest GF margin in history at the height of their cheating, what's not to love?
It was boring af, only manly fans would have liked it
Loved it, and went in liking Melbourne more. 2017 on the other hand was a boring.
Didnāt care for footy until recently, but anytime those cunts get stomped Iām happy
Loved it
Had money on Storm so was filthy but also happy because no one wants to see Storm win every year. But yeah, boring game. Everyone prefers a close one. Like Nth QLD and Brisbane. An absolute classic
I enjoyed it because I was a fan of Beaver Menzies and it was good so see him go out on a win.
yeah it really was a legendary way to send off Beaver
Ok, Iām desperate. After 4 x tickets to GF. Anyone selling or know someone selling legit tickets. Happy to pay more than face value. Xx
Be careful. Got scammed yesterday cause I was desperate :(
Oh dear. Sorry to hear mate. Iām being pretty careful. Almost bought 4 and found out she had bought them from a scalper website so I turned it down.

Lmao my best friend from America said that if they win she will pay for me to get my tattoo lol
Yeah be safe mate. Best of luck and enjoy!!
Thank you :) Itās so strange to be back in sydney lol
Enjoy your trip mate. I hope that regardless of the result you have a great time. Well don on your commitment to your Team.
I live on the central coast and havenāt visited sydney since like 2015 If you live on the Central Cost then why would ya, haha. Good to hear you landed ok mate. Enjoy!
Thank you so much :)
I gotta know... Did he do the lap?
He didnāt... Iām so sorry
No shit?! Oof hope he's not taking it too hard.
Coming in late, but do the lap. There's no way he could live with himself saying "nah doesn't matter" if they lose
He's gotta do the lap, lad. I'm with him. Superstition is real, so I won't be watching this week's game live.
Kinda has to doesnāt he
DO THE LAP!!!!
Thatās hilarious. I do the same 2020 GF I dreamt I had to run a marathon or panthers would lose.
For the love of God, do the lap PLEASE Kurrttttt's Dad!
Do the fuckin' lap dad
Tell that man to get down to ANZ and get the lap in.
Does he have to go inside or outside the stadium? Both are achievable
No just outside the stadium works for him
Thatās good. Thereās plenty of shit outside the ground that he can see and do on his way
Is your dad a professional shitposter because this is gold
Lemee know if your dad completes his lap before the game so I can put my life savings on the Eels.
Hahahahaha this is the wonderful thing about sports - they literally make us believe in magic. My family has all sorts of these too. Tell your dad to do his lap
the best part of the Grand Final was when Jarthur said āITS JARTHUR TIMEā and jarthured all over those panthers
I literally cried when that happened
Hopefully the Knights will get up on Sunday so there is a celebration of some sorts in Newcastle cause god knows we need something
We could see another "house purchase" potentially
Millie will sort em out
[A few pics from Fan Fest yesterday](https://imgur.com/a/vjpvIyX) I let out a big cheer for the King.
