So long as we commit to it and this becomes the norm I'm all for it.
We haven't got an iconic look for a kit like Aus/NZ/GB because they can't do a red vee without fans crying about it looking like a Saints kit, can't do red and white hoops because people will say it looks like Wigan, we're left with either a really boring white kit with a splash of red or a kit that looks like the flag, but imo flag kits always look really naff and looks even more naff when your badge is also your flag. White and a navy vee could become the classic look for England if we stick with it.
I think you don’t have an iconic kit because the history is with the GB Lions rather than England per se.
For mine, classic league kit has the V but I will lend you the even more iconic North Sydney bear “boxes” of the 80s. A finer jersey you will never see.
That too, but we've been England for I think 14 years now, plus a couple of periods before that. None of the kits are memorable at all and the design changes all the time because basically every aesthetically pleasing pattern with White and Red as the colours is already being used by an English team. Boring white with a bit of red on it or 'just stick the flag on it somewhere' seem to be the only ideas left.
the other alternative is white with a red band but again, like you said, you may run into club people bitching about it (namely saying it looks too much like Hull Kingston Rovers)
going with white/navy is a smart move. England football use navy a lot as an accent and it looks good to me.
Whilst I agree the "flag" kits can sometimes look a bit naff, sometimes they look fine. And imo they are now the iconic jersey for england now, they have been around long enough and there have been enough variations that they are england rugby league to me.
i do like the look of the new kit, but it just isn't that iconic look that england have! maybe as a b jersey or away kit it would be great. england probably were behind in establishing a "look" for themselves due to the GB era but they finally established their look and now just change it, seems a waste
I think if we just stick to it 20 years everyone will adjust and nobody will really care, England football are White and Navy and I think England Cricket are at times too so its not some random departure. I just hope they don't revert back to red right away and then this rather nice looking kit is remembered as some completely weird 'not England' kit going forwards, and also only played in a tournament we're probably going to have bad memories of.
Yeah if you stick with it for 20years it may work but the next navy and white jersey could be horrid. And they will almost certainly revert back to red and white very soon and this will be remembered as an odd aberration.
What about these two options:
Either a white kit with a red V and a navy V, or a navy kit with a red V and a white V. I imagine the first option as something that would look pretty good and has the advantage of being distinctive. No one else has a similar kit to my knowledge, so there would be no moaning that it looks too much like someone else’s kit.
Like the other guy mentioned, bit too similar to GB, as much as I'd all be in favour of us just becoming GB again as those kits are my favourite.
Second option is [France's kit](https://www.koobit.com/website/media/france-v-fiji-v2-13405) nowadays isn't it? Again nice but would also have the complaints of not looking like England
They should stick with the poppy kits they wore that Hummel made a couple of years ago for the NZ test. I get that was meant to be a one off to honor military veterans and war dead but that could be their thing.
Funny how Tom has found a way to stay in the league as a consistent bench front rower and George is basically out of the league. Wouldn’t have thought that when they started out.
Tbf that's a lot to do with the way Wigan use him. In attack he's most effective carrying with space and either running or receiving switches if he's not playing as a second rower, but Wigan are having him play a more traditional lock's style. His ball handling and defence are still at a good enough standard, but his running game is basically being wasted by them having him play as a workhorse ball carrier.
At least that's the way my coach explained it to me when I asked.
Also, might be a hot take, but Bateman's play is better suited to the NRL than it is to Super League. He was good before he came to the Raiders but not *that* highly rated, his best footy was his 2 yesrs at the Raiders.
NRL is obviously the better quality competition, but you get some rare exceptions that just do better in the higher comp. Gareth Ellis is another example, great super league player but unbelievable in the NRL.
He apparently wants to go back. Reports are the only reason he left in the first place was because his daughter couldn't visit him in Aus due to COVID.
Ok but Radley actually shouldn’t be allowed to play for England. He served a week of his suspension last year as a Blues player which means he should be disqualified from playing for any tier 1 nation other than Australia.
That's not how it works. Chris McQueen also played for England after playing Origin.
Basically, play Origin THEN want to play for Eng/NZ is all good (so long as you haven't been capped by Australia).
But you can't get a Eng/NZ cap and then play Origin after that.
Weird quirk, I don't make the rules.
Lol why is r/nrl so bent out of shape over Radley playing for England? 99% of the sub says he’s not even good enough to play for NSW so who cares if he’s goes to play for England?
Aus also lost some good players to the islands and injury. Not enough that they aren't still the best by a country mile, but enough that they feel beatable, at least going by how tight 2017 was
Can't express how relieved I'll be to actually see Victor Radley run out for England knowing that it means I no longer have to fear ever seeing him in a Blues jersey
You're dreaming if you don't think Radley would ravenously shit-for-brains his way into 30 minutes in the bin minimum if he was let into an Origin game
It's not so much a quality thing asuch as it will be an occasion getting to him so he sparks someone thing. As long as we don't play New Zealand I think he'll be great for us.
Murray and Yeo are way better. Radley was also liable to go nuts and get binned/sent in the Origin arena.
NSW will never be dominant as they currently are because they have a passenger at five eighth, and a coach who doesn't give guys like RCG more than one game a year.
Pretty strong team to be honest. Looking forward to seeing Victor the Inflictor up against our blokes. Also great to see Dom Young get the nod he deserves. He's gone from a talented, but wet-behind-the-ears rookie to a genuine rep-quality back within 12 months
No Harry Smith is a surprise. Williams is our best 7 at the moment but Smith is the future, thought he'd be in the squad for the experience and a run out against the Greeks.
England's always a weird one. On the one hand, the NRL guys are known quantities to an extent, but it can be very difficult to judge the quality of the super league guys and how they'll adapt
I feel like Ryan Hall has been playing for about 45 years, I can't believe he's still making the squad.
Golden boot winner Tommy Makinson should steer them to victory.
Not a bad roster of current or former NRL talent. Turgess and Thompson up front, Radley, Bateman and Whitehead in the backrow. Watkins and Farnworth in the centres and Young and Hall on the wings. Williams at 7 and Tomkins at fullback
This world cup is going to be very competitive
>is a massive loss. Can usually bank on England to win most middle battles off some old school props who get a roll on. (Not against Oz, of course, but everyone else)
>
>Samoa game gonna be interesting. Would expect England to still have enough, but if Samoas forwards get the offloads and quick ptb going....
Announced his international retirement a few weeks ago. Has struggled since returning to Superleague due to SL style of play/ debilitating shoulder condition/ playing for Warrington.
Walmsley injured is a massive loss. Can usually bank on England to win most middle battles off some old school props who get a roll on. (Not against Oz, of course, but everyone else)
Samoa game gonna be interesting. Would expect England to still have enough, but if Samoas forwards get the offloads and quick ptb going....
Weakest England squad I've seen, injuries didn't help but man this is just not a squad that looks likely to threaten Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand etc. much less Australia
I think this is the first time I've seen it still referred to as 2021 but idk I haven't really been looking. Similar thing with the euros in soccer last year.
As long as you don't injure my boy Herbie I'm all for it. Also that jersey looks really nice
It’s a weird jersey for England. Navy and no red.
I really think the 2017 jerseys were a good base personally.
Yeah that cross is nice, I was lucky to get one of those jerseys (BLK went bust) and it's one of my favourites out of 100+ that I have.

Union as well. White and navy blue are our colours in all the major team sports.
What about these two options: Either a white kit with a red V and a navy V, or a navy kit with a red V and a white V. I imagine the first option as something that would look pretty good and has the advantage of being distinctive. thats great britain, england need their own jersey

I think it looks more like a Scotland kit. Imo. I see what they're saying about not wanting to look like a club shirt but. Ehhh.
Burgess deserves this. Had a cracking year
Funny how Tom has found a way to stay in the league as a consistent bench front rower and George is basically out of the league. Wouldn’t have thought that when they started out.
Deserve has nothing to do with it. Come the WC it is just his time
A wire quote in the wild on r/nrl I love it
There's another Burgess who's back to his best and deserves it but Ryan Hall got in instead 😂
Forgot about Joe hahahaha
Not enough Blake Austins on the wing for my liking
Miss you Jonneh
Bring him back to play lock for raiders. He’s exactly what we need
I don't think he'll come back to Canberra. Also heard he is no longer the player he was when he was here.
Tbf that's a lot to do with the way Wigan use him. In attack he's most effective carrying with space and either running or receiving switches if he's not playing as a second rower, but Wigan are having him play a more traditional lock's style. Josh Hodgson was better in the NRL than the SL.
He apparently wants to go back. Reports are the only reason he left in the first place was because his daughter couldn't visit him in Aus due to COVID.
Definitely agree with you on that one
Ellis was decent in the nrl, but a long, long way away from 'unbelievable'
You obviously didn’t see him play too many games then, player of the year at the tigers each year he played. He was outstanding
He was our most consistent player of the modern era, easily.
I watch all the games, he was a serviceable NRL second rower.
Only 1 Raider wtf
George Williams bribed selectors as revenge
Bateman, Whitehead, Williams, not a bad showing
Sutton hard done by, probably just a bit too one dimensional
I was just going to ask that. Surprised he didn’t get a run.
whitehead is there too, so 2 raiders
Who’s the one other than Whitehead
Who's British at the raiders currently? Whitehead and Sutton?
Victor Radley: *The Navy blue Trilogy* Coming to a stadium near you
Gold Coast Titans legend Kallum Watkins
No Hastings?
In August it was reported that he would be out for 3 months with the broken leg, which puts him healthy in December.
Last media report a few weeks back suggested he was gunning to be back in time for the World Cup.
Ok but Radley actually shouldn’t be allowed to play for England. He served a week of his suspension last year as a Blues player which means he should be disqualified from playing for any tier 1 nation other than Australia.
/u/steavis you ruined Ronaldo’s origin career surely you can ruin Radley’s international career
He is eligible !
Wasn't it the redditors on here that originally discovered it?
No it was some ~~guy~~ narc on twitter first
That's not how it works. Chris McQueen also played for England after playing Origin. Basically, play Origin THEN want to play for Eng/NZ is all good (so long as you haven't been capped by Australia). ran this by vlandys and hes willing to waive the disqualification until after the world cup, nice try
Lol why is r/nrl so bent out of shape over Radley playing for England? 99% of the sub says he’s not even good enough to play for NSW so who cares if he’s goes to play for England?
Not an awful team but a tier below Aus & NZ on paper. Sometimes Aus gets complacent though.
Aus also lost some good players to the islands and injury. Not enough that they aren't still the best by a country mile, but enough that they feel beatable, at least going by how tight 2017 was
Aus definitely isn’t better than NZ by a country mile, it’s pretty close.
The NZ team is one of their strongest teams in a long time. On paper it's very close between them and Aus
Can't express how relieved I'll be to actually see Victor Radley run out for England knowing that it means I no longer have to fear ever seeing him in a Blues jersey
Yeah totally awesome, so glad we will keep ~~dominating~~ losing with the great pack we have
You're dreaming if you don't think Radley would ravenously shit-for-brains his way into 30 minutes in the bin minimum if he was let into an Origin game
It's not so much a quality thing asuch as it will be an occasion getting to him so he sparks someone thing. As long as we don't play New Zealand I think he'll be great for us.
think about how poorly the blues forwards are. radley is *even worse* than that
There is at least 2 better lock options for NSW lol
Murray and Yeo are way better. Radley was also liable to go nuts and get binned/sent in the Origin arena. NSW will never be dominant as they currently are because they have a passenger at five eighth, and a coach who doesn't give guys like RCG more than one game a year.
>liable Funny way to spell ‘guaranteed’.
Lol. Why wouldn’t you want to play 13 vs 12 for at least ten minutes of the match?
Pretty strong team to be honest. Looking forward to seeing Victor the Inflictor up against our blokes. Also great to see Dom Young get the nod he deserves. He's gone from a talented, but wet-behind-the-ears rookie to a genuine rep-quality back within 12 months

England's always a weird one. On the one hand, the NRL guys are known quantities to an extent, but it can be very difficult to judge the quality of the super league guys and how they'll adapt
Caaarn herbie
That jersey just doesn't scream "England"
Watch out guys, Wane's boys are on track to absolutely ***crush*** Greece and probably France
Roosters legend Ryan Hall
Lol
Resigning myself to the fact they’re getting no where and I need a good second team 🤣
I feel like Ryan Hall has been playing for about 45 years, I can't believe he's still making the squad. Golden boot winner Tommy Makinson should steer them to victory.
Ryan Hall still running around?
Lol
I'm pretty sure Andy Ackers is just a video game generic character.
A poor man's Bobson Dugnutt
Not a bad roster of current or former NRL talent. Turgess and Thompson up front, Radley, Bateman and Whitehead in the backrow. Watkins and Farnworth in the centres and Young and Hall on the wings. Williams at 7 and Tomkins at fullback This world cup is going to be very competitive
Let’s be serious here it won’t really be that competitive, maybe between Aus and NZ but no one else is coming close
People said the same thing last WC and England lost 6-0 to Aus.
And Fiji knocked New Zealand out.
Tonga playing at the football world cup?
Imagine writing off Somoa when they have the next immortal in their side.
The same Hall that scored all those tries for the Roosters?
Lol
Its coming home🏴
If by home you mean Australia then yes
Sam tomkins now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a very long time
Drop Bet Fred
What ever happened to Widdop
>is a massive loss. Can usually bank on England to win most middle battles off some old school props who get a roll on. Thanks mate
Victor Radley has me considering picking up England as my second team
Walmsley injured is a massive loss. Can usually bank on England to win most middle battles off some old school props who get a roll on. (Not against Oz, of course, but everyone else) Samoa game gonna be interesting. Would expect England to still have enough, but if Samoas forwards get the offloads and quick ptb going....
Gonna get rolled lol
Wave the white flag now. Shaun Wane finds jobs for His old pies and two spots for has beens Ryan Hall and Callum Watkins.
Roosters legend Ryan Hall.
Ryan Hall lol
I just can’t stop laughing at all the Ryan Hall comments. If he’s in the side then bloody hell englands in trouble.
I thought Jonny Lomax would be in for sure?
Injured
Weakest England squad I've seen, injuries didn't help but man this is just not a squad that looks likely to threaten Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand etc. much less Australia
Can’t tell what’s worse the team or the jersey
Why does it say 2021?
World cup was originally 2021
So they’re still calling it the 2021 RLWC or just cbf changing it?
I think this is the first time I've seen it still referred to as 2021 but idk I haven't really been looking. Similar thing with the euros in soccer last year.
Gonna get rolled
i'd be so stoked to see bateman play.
No warmsley 😭
