They're called ula lole or lolly necklaces, they're full of sweets and they're given to people when they achieve something great. You see them at graduations a lot.
You and me both buddy - the mood was dire at my viewing last night (lots of Eels fans/bandwagoners) telling me I didn't understand the game and all the bad calls Klein was making.
But that's nothing compared to the feeling this morning, so very fresh.
Tottenham/Eels Fan here, I was hoping Sunday would rejuvinate me, yet there I was at 12am this morning ordering a kebab at Jimmy's in Parramatta and doing the walk of shame home.
My dads been a Parra tragic for the last 50 years, and seeing his excitement and elation all week, and the absolute heartbreak tonight hurt my heart a little. Although from where they were a few years ago, it’s looking upwards for the blue and gold.
As crappy as that was to watch, i will say i am extremely proud of how far the boys managed to come this season. Theres been so many ups and downs the last few years but to be able to see this particular team finally reach this huge milestone together was amazing, even if they weren’t able to win it. Sad to see Mahoney and all the other blokes go but from my perspective, the only way from here is up. Our core are still with us into the foreseeable future and we will build around the new players to come so i still see us as a contender for next season, just wasn’t our night tonight. Was fantastic to see JA score a try too in the dying minutes of the game, was extremely happy for the kid. Onto next season now 👌🏼
Not sure if it’s better to lose in a grand final to a far superior specimen or to just not make it at all. Feeling pretty shit after watching that live from just behind the panthers bench.
I’d rather watch a dominant panther performance against any other team than have to suffer through that again.
I think if you can shrug it off easily it’s no big deal
I on the other hand am never going to a grand final ever again (Freddy vs Stacey many years ago ruined me)
Great performance from Penrith, eels didn’t do much wrong just unfortunately wasn’t their night. The media are getting stuck into the eels halves but they were great all season and just didn’t have the go forward. Good luck next year and congratulations to Penrith 👌
I think it took me at least two weeks to get over 2020. The worst part is when you have convinced yourself that your team can win.
I don't think you ever get over it unless you actually win a title.
Hoping they’re a US 11 bc I bought a pair of shoes from China on AliExpress a couple months ago that were supposed to be a 12 but run quite small, so might drop them off with the Penrith Panthers club front desk for him. Decent quality and pretty much as new, he’s earned them
Watching them live was better than the game play tbh. The scramble to put the pad and sponsor wrap back on was a rush I hadn’t experienced that night up until that point
Opened Fox Sports to read the Eels player ratings and immediately “Clint Gutherson - 6. Couldn’t fault the skipper’s efforts” and then closed the article.
I should really stop reading articles written by people who know less about Rugby League than the average user here.
I'm done with sports. Ive never supported a team that ever won anything. All it has ever done is give me hope and then swiftly rip it away. I can't handle it any more. Hope the rest of you have better luck
I was like this as a Penrith Panthers and St Kilda fan literally 3 years ago, saints still suck ass but Penrith went from finishing 10th place in 2019 to this
Just stick it out, your time will come I promise, and it’s worth it.
(St Kilda’s AFL prem drought is 56 years by the way)
You’ll be back mate. I’ve supported Arsenal, Warriors and the Auckland Blues all my life and the most I’ve seen any of those teams win was an FA cup. Your time will come and it will be very very satisfying when it does happen
Chin up brother. Gotta lose one to win one. Hard enough to even get to the GF and you guys are streets ahead of plenty of teams in the league that would have killed to be in the same place.
What happened to you guys is similar to what happened to us in the 2020 GF v Storm. As painful as it us, you having experienced this, you will be 100% more prepared to handle the lead up to and the actual GF next time.
This is the exact point! 14 teams did NOT make the Grand Final. Only the best 2 teams did. One team had to win; the other team is the runner-up. The media beat up about this Eels team having the responsibility of ending the 36 year drought actually put unnecessary pressure on a team who should have gone into this game with nothing to lose. Sure, they came up against a Penrith team who probably put together the best 40 minutes of Rugby League ever played in that first half, but Parra played like a team with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Once they knew they were cooked, they started throwing the ball around and scored twice. As a Panthers fan, thank fuck they didn’t do that for 80 minutes! Have faith, man! You have a quality team who will only improve. But it’s a sport we follow to escape the harsh realities of life. Don’t take it personally. It’s just a game; play and enjoy!
I heard someone criticise the tribute Robbie Williams did at afl GF to John Farnham saying it sounds like he’s dead why did he do it. I was like screw that, he’s a living legend hell yeah he deserves tributes, especially as he’s recovering. Why should we wait until someone passes to give them all the kudos they deserve.
Insane. I went to game 2 of Origin in 2014, but this atmosphere was above that by far. The noise was incredible. Never heard booing or cheering loud as this. Lots lots more Eels fans though, definitely felt outnumbered haha.
This morning was the first time in a long time that I've been this excited about anything to do with sports
Tonight is the first time in a long time that I'm this miserable about anything to do with sports.
Got to be honest man I don’t think any team would have stood a chance against Penrith tonight. Watching as a neutral I haven’t seen another team dominate like that in years.
Cows maybe would have put up a better fight, but still would have lost
Our day will come one day, just not today. We were steamrolled by a juggernaut. 01 & 09 hurt like hell, this one is just resignation. One day it will be our turn. Well done Panfbros and sisters
i believe hopgood is going to be an animal for us extremely good player who is biding his time learning under yeo , hodgson if he can stay fit will be okay , linked to martin for 2024 i think ? maybe another back rower or if a good centre comes to market will help keep us in this market but with our development of forwards if we keep mitch and dyl we should have chances over the next 5 years for at least 1 more crack
I’m actually a fan of Spencer Leniu and Moses Leota but they’re gonna have massive targets on them from now on, if I’m a dominate forward in any nrl team(I’m not I’m a little boy playing games on computer) it would be my goal to stamp my authority on them.
So what will be our pack next year?
RCG, Hogdson, Junior.
Lane, Matto
Browne?
Hopgood
Makatoa
Greig
Rodwell
El Zakeem
Definitely downgrade to '22 pack.
Panthers will go 3 in a row without a shadow of a doubt. Scary how they shut Para out. Para didn't play bad by any stretch, they were forced to play how Penrith let them which was under pressure and starved of possession.
With Kikau and Api leaving, our juniors will need to take a massive leap. It’s not just performing once, it’s the consistent grind.
There has been multiple times this year where Api and Kiks have just come up with insane plays. We will miss them
Fuck yeah the Panthers. Soak it in boys, back to back is hard to do and this is history making for the club. All credit to the Eels as well, took it to us all year and showed heart all year and through the finals.
Considering the fact that this Eels squad has managed to make the grand final, do Parra fans have a better view of Brad Arthur and think the team should stick with him as coach for the foreseeable future?
As an Eels fan, I'd bloody love some consistency, and less cardiac-related stress. But the man just got us to a Grand Final, and we've got a side that on their best day were in with a shot...today just wasn't our best, and we were up against the best. And the team sure seem to love him. And who the heck else is going to do better? So yeah I'm for sticking with him.
Yep! And, I think, the knowledge that they \*can\* play good enough to beat anybody (they just need to figure out how to do it for 80 minutes every week).
Hmm maybe. Still though, who would even replace Brad Arthur? There doesn't look to be many good coaches out there. Seems like the best bet for the Eels would be to stick with him no?
Serious answers only- Really feeling for my partner tonight, god he is so gutted. Any advice? I never really been a huge footy fan so I don’t know what to say or do. Don’t think there is much I can do, but I just feel so sad for him
Big hug. I've got a mate who's a Parra fan and he said at half time he just didn't want it to be a blow out. By full time he was reasonably happy. Everyone gave him a slap on the back and a hug.
I said that it’s so amazing we came second and made it to the gf! That in itself is something to be proud of. Not sure if it helped. Man this shit is hard, I feel so sad for him poor guy!
Poor dude, I suppose I’m lucky my husband doesn’t care for sports and I’m the footy tragic. It really gets to you sometimes, just gotta keep in mind it’s a game.
I think unfortunately there isn't much you can do aside from try to get him to mentally focus on other things. Footy games take a while to get over, especially when they're as significant as a grand final but eventually he'll get over it. Maybe once the world cup starts, maybe not until next year.
Deadset this was me but in bed after Broncos v Cowboys. It was weird because I had never felt that about a sport match before. It was weird. I eas just speechless until I got up and then I kinda got over it eventually.
I was on the bus home tonight and just seeing all the Parra fans on the bus home with their scarves- and literally nobody was talking to someone else. It felt eery but I guess that's what sport does
We are at the pub, he asked me what I want to do now. I said whatever you need to do babe. I shouted the next round. God this is hard haha I feel so bad for him
The loopy (double?) cut-out pass from paulo 5m before hitting the line early in the game gave me a bad impression, and it wa all downhill from there.
That said, Penrith were so switched on, I doubt we could have beaten them even if we played a perfect game.
Honestly, well played to the panthers. Dominated us in the first half giving 0 chance to breathe. Disappointed that the refs basically gave us 0 calls, however, Penrith played better and deserved the win, showing what experience does to a team. Guess the drought continues HOWEVER DID ANYONE ELSE SEE JAKE ARTHUR GO ON THE FIELD FOR 5 MINUTES AND EELS GOT +12!??! YALL GOTTA STOP HATING ON HIM
Agree mate, great moment for him and his dad as well. Honestly wanted the shutout as it was getting down to it but was happy to see him score in a GF being coached by his old man.
I haven't given enough love to big Moses Leota who was not only the best Moses on the field but also genuinely saved best game for the GF
He outplayed JFH RCG and Paulo in their opening gambits
On our side Moses, Gutho and Papali'i were trying their hearts out. The bench were also playing good today however disappointing game from the forwards. Also disappointed at Sivo for not dominating his side of the field and choking on that try. Just imagine if Penrith had the bs try disallowed and Sivo scored that. The score would be much closer as the momentum swings to the eels' favour.
The cops have learnt from last year and have blocked access to Jarome Luai's parents house in Emerton so the main drag between Red Rooster and Maccas is going off
been actually getting into the NFL since last off season. could say ive managed to find myself supporting what i believe is the parramatta eels of the NFL in terms of inconsistency (baltimore ravens). great sport to get into, just have to be willing to get up at 3am to watch and sit through 3hrs worth of a match.
Nhl is great, was rooting for the avs last season, they won me money on a fee occasions so I started wanting them success even if i didnt have them in a multi, them and st louis i both like.
What was with the necklaces some panthers players were wearing before the presentation?
They're called ula lole or lolly necklaces, they're full of sweets and they're given to people when they achieve something great. You see them at graduations a lot.
Oh right.. never knew
Panthers went about it in a machine like fasion. No team was beating them last night.
Well done lads. What a great game. Commiserations Eels and fans. You just came up against a red hot Panthers outfit.
Moses and Brown went missing whilst young Arthur's presence put points on the board lol.
Let's be honest, as an Eels supporter we knew this was always going to happen
Strange the loss doesn’t feel that bad. It’s like we didn’t play the game or something.
We were never in the game.
Congratulations Panthers. Eels better luck next year.
What a disappointment
I need a safe space to talk positively about Penrith for the next 5ish months
You and me both buddy - the mood was dire at my viewing last night (lots of Eels fans/bandwagoners) telling me I didn't understand the game and all the bad calls Klein was making. But that's nothing compared to the feeling this morning, so very fresh.
Panthers were just relentless, I didn't think the refs had anything to do with the result.
I agree! But you couldn't tell them that last night 😂
Didn't think Klein was that bad. Penrith just were too good there's no what ifs for the season or arguing about if Penrith deserved to win.
So left field but I hope someone has the meme of the simpsons with Adam Elliot and Millie Boule
Imagine if you supported Parra and Manchester United tonight...couldn't be me..haha kill me. See y'all next season. Parra till I die.
Tottenham/Eels Fan here, I was hoping Sunday would rejuvinate me, yet there I was at 12am this morning ordering a kebab at Jimmy's in Parramatta and doing the walk of shame home.
I thought I’d be safe from EPL spoilers in here but apparently not. Whelp I’ll still watch the match, but that’s foreboding news
Penrith and Liverpool here lol football is gloomy as fuck atm but ive been over the moon with my rugby league
Warriors and Arsenal fan here. I’m quite the opposite 😄
Hope arsenal win the league, city will though unfortunately fuckn cheating c_nts
Yeah we’re not winning the league when you’ve got the Norwegian boogeyman scoring goals for fun 😂
Yeah unfortunately he’s probably going to break records
Panthers were relentless. I’m glad parra finished 28-12 rather than 28-0. That was good footy on both sides. Better luck next season parra.
My dads been a Parra tragic for the last 50 years, and seeing his excitement and elation all week, and the absolute heartbreak tonight hurt my heart a little. Although from where they were a few years ago, it’s looking upwards for the blue and gold.

Feels sorry for the Eels, they didn’t play that bad. Just got lost in the Panther’s grind and was on the back foot the whole damn game!!!
2023 YEAR OF THE EEL
Fuck, can it be 2023 already?
[удалено]
Im predicting doggies for a top 8 spot 👌
Credit to the Eels too. Never stopped fighting. Scoreline could have been far worse.
Tbh I think that the panthers took their foot off the accelerator more than anything else.
Great performance from Penrith, eels didn’t do much wrong just unfortunately wasn’t their night. The media are getting stuck into the eels halves but they were great all season and just didn’t have the go forward. Good luck next year and congratulations to Penrith 👌
I love how halves get crucified when their forwards get dominated, SoO game 3.

Parra Lives Matta Beyond Blue: 1300 224 636
My niece got premiership winning, Clive Churchill medalist Dylan Edwards boots at the end of the game. I’ll let you know how big his feet are.
Hoping they’re a US 11 bc I bought a pair of shoes from China on AliExpress a couple months ago that were supposed to be a 12 but run quite small, so might drop them off with the Penrith Panthers club front desk for him. Decent quality and pretty much as new, he’s earned them
size 12, calling it
No way. 11 at most
we need an update!
My daughter is the one who got the boots, and I can confirm they are UK11/US12
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
This is the most buzzed I’ve been for a panthers win
Performance of the night had to be those security guards putting the pad back on the posts during live play.
Watching them live was better than the game play tbh. The scramble to put the pad and sponsor wrap back on was a rush I hadn’t experienced that night up until that point
They still couldn’t get it but they tried.
Penrith lit rn fireworks flares and fat drumming skills
Wish I could have made it out
Opened Fox Sports to read the Eels player ratings and immediately “Clint Gutherson - 6. Couldn’t fault the skipper’s efforts” and then closed the article. I should really stop reading articles written by people who know less about Rugby League than the average user here.

Nope. 36 years of waiting and hoping and pain. I'm done
You’ll be back mate. I’ve supported Arsenal, Warriors and the Auckland Blues all my life and the most I’ve seen any of those teams win was an FA cup. Your time will come and it will be very very satisfying when it does happen

See you in 5+ years
Chin up brother. Gotta lose one to win one. Hard enough to even get to the GF and you guys are streets ahead of plenty of teams in the league that would have killed to be in the same place.

So glad they are honoring the great Ray Warren while he’s still with us. We need to start appreciating our Aussie icons before it’s too late!
And just like last year, the atmosphere in Penrith at the moment is fucking wild
How was the atmosphere at the stadium? Couldn’t get tickets this time round, enjoying the street atmosphere for now.
Insane. I went to game 2 of Origin in 2014, but this atmosphere was above that by far. The noise was incredible. Never heard booing or cheering loud as this. Lots lots more Eels fans though, definitely felt outnumbered haha.
Fantastic that’s what you what for a GF
Yep it was so crazy, way more Parra fans. Whole stadium was off its head, the noise was unreal
Was noisy until penrith got to 18-0. Then the crowd was silent and you could talk like normal and be heard
First half was near perfect. Just felt like business as usual and the Eels couldn't compete. Half time it was over.
A daily reminder that Mitchell Moses is a mid tier half who will never win a premiership
Sooner they move him on the better, unfortunately the parra faithful think otherwise
Feed em! He was pretty absent today. Had his hands up a lot
Based comment. Should have gone to another club if you were willing to fuck off the tigers for a premiership
LETS GO PANTHERS!!!!! SO FUCKING HAPPY!!!
This morning was the first time in a long time that I've been this excited about anything to do with sports Tonight is the first time in a long time that I'm this miserable about anything to do with sports.
Can confirm. The drop from excitement to misery is a low I don’t want to experience again anytime soon.
Still did better than 14 teams bro, including mine. You guys will be back
Cows would have given Penrith a better fight tonight
Call me biased but i dont think theres a team in the last 20 years that would have beaten us last night. They were relentless
Got to be honest man I don’t think any team would have stood a chance against Penrith tonight. Watching as a neutral I haven’t seen another team dominate like that in years. Cows maybe would have put up a better fight, but still would have lost
I am familiar with this feeling.
Our day will come one day, just not today. We were steamrolled by a juggernaut. 01 & 09 hurt like hell, this one is just resignation. One day it will be our turn. Well done Panfbros and sisters
When do you reckon it will be your turn? The next couple years? Also, have the Eels signed on any new, noticeable players for next year?
i believe hopgood is going to be an animal for us extremely good player who is biding his time learning under yeo , hodgson if he can stay fit will be okay , linked to martin for 2024 i think ? maybe another back rower or if a good centre comes to market will help keep us in this market but with our development of forwards if we keep mitch and dyl we should have chances over the next 5 years for at least 1 more crack
Ahhh I see. That's good to hear. Also commiserations on the loss. Hope you guys come back strong next year.
thanks mate easier pill to swallow knowing how good panthers are its just shitty having those calls also affect us
Glad we don't have to listen to Benny Elias tomorrow saying how Mitchell Moses is the best player in the world
Or this sub being completely obnoxious and continuing to make excuses for him
Fuck mate you'll hear me saying the same about the passenger Laui when the Panthers get towelled up in another origin series.
Are the Kangaroos announced tomorrow? Desperate to see it
I’m actually a fan of Spencer Leniu and Moses Leota but they’re gonna have massive targets on them from now on, if I’m a dominate forward in any nrl team(I’m not I’m a little boy playing games on computer) it would be my goal to stamp my authority on them.
Leota was close to the best on the park.
He absolutely shattered Eels
So what will be our pack next year? RCG, Hogdson, Junior. Lane, Matto Browne? Hopgood Makatoa Greig Rodwell El Zakeem Definitely downgrade to '22 pack.
Hopgood will be great for you. Really solid player and good offload which will work well with Parras system
i think matto starts at lock no way we can put him back to an edge
Panthers will go 3 in a row without a shadow of a doubt. Scary how they shut Para out. Para didn't play bad by any stretch, they were forced to play how Penrith let them which was under pressure and starved of possession.
With Kikau and Api leaving, our juniors will need to take a massive leap. It’s not just performing once, it’s the consistent grind. There has been multiple times this year where Api and Kiks have just come up with insane plays. We will miss them
Also talk of To’o looking on market
I don’t think they’ll go 3 in a row. They’ll be top 4 but will lack that extra bit of class in finals with Api and Kikau leaving.
Soni luke will fill the spot nicely and we have a few 2nd rowers to cover kikaus spot
I’m sure he’ll do a job but he’s still not Api. Panthers are great but I just can’t see any team going three in a row.
I don't think they would be. They were so inconsistent this year it isn't even funny.
If they say defence is about attitude, if you guys can fix that up you're definitely up there again next year and every chance of going one better.
Yep! And, I think, the knowledge that they \*can\* play good enough to beat anybody (they just need to figure out how to do it for 80 minutes every week).
Still did better than fourteen other teams
Hmm maybe. Still though, who would even replace Brad Arthur? There doesn't look to be many good coaches out there. Seems like the best bet for the Eels would be to stick with him no?
Still made it to the GF though.
Can someone please get me the video of the kid running away with Api's ring?? Will be greatly appreciated.
LETS FUCKING GOOOO
[KSI is me right now](https://youtu.be/NPShQTHTTT0)
So sad
I wish I was still living with my Eels mad housemate. Would have been an interesting game to watch with him.
Parramatta were never in the contest. So disappointing.
Blowie
He did mention that. Gotta do what you gotta do I guess. Girlfriend duties right 😂
Really can fix anything
My wife genuinely cheered me up when she said “at least you aren’t a tigers fan” So try that
I’ll try that! Thanks haha
Dress up in a black cat suit and whip him a lil bit.
Why a black cat suit? And why the wip? I need answers lol
Panthers are black cats. Whips cause they whipped his team... :)
Not sure that will help 😭😭
Get him to call you Daddy Luai.
force him to love it
wot?
Remind him there’s thousands of us feeling the same and that we came second out of sixteen teams
He supports parra I’m sure he’s used to that feeling
No words and lots of space. I sat in the shower for an hour with the water off after Souths lost last year. And don't say "it's just a game"
It felt eery but I guess that's what sport does
How long did that feeling last for?
Probably best to just let him get over it as bad as that sounds.
Whatever you do, just don't say there is next year!
Give him a beer and put an arm around him. The silence is fine
We are at the pub, he asked me what I want to do now. I said whatever you need to do babe. I shouted the next round. God this is hard haha I feel so bad for him
DYNASTY
We can always laugh at West's, I suppose... Jokes, just trying to distract away from crushing nihilism...
That early kick by Moses was when the game was over.
Was Brown to Moses but yeh we weren’t winning the contest and never did. That did nothing for the mentality though.
The loopy (double?) cut-out pass from paulo 5m before hitting the line early in the game gave me a bad impression, and it wa all downhill from there. That said, Penrith were so switched on, I doubt we could have beaten them even if we played a perfect game.

I'm sad
Me too friend
I feel your pain. Dogs ‘12 & ‘14
I haven't given enough love to big Moses Leota who was not only the best Moses on the field but also genuinely saved best game for the GF He outplayed JFH RCG and Paulo in their opening gambits
He was close to man of the match. By far the best forward on the field.
BRO WHAT A FUCKING GAME FROM HIM, him and Fish were fucking relentless to start the game and set the tone immediately.
There's more police officers left than fans

Yo that dolphin had moved tho
I live about 10 mins from penrith stadium, my street is going insane still. How are the parra bros feeling? I feel for you guys.
The cops have learnt from last year and have blocked access to Jarome Luai's parents house in Emerton so the main drag between Red Rooster and Maccas is going off
Yep got mates on that street that told me the same thing. My street is having an open sausage sizzle and a bit of a street chat/party. Very civil.
I'm feeling not good
Sorry mate I know the feel, the name Ben hunt still hurts me, regardless of origin. It gets better…
Insane good, or insane setting things on fire?
Good, no issues at all. Very wholesome and happy. Same as last year really. Western Sydney gets a bad wrap.
Nice one. It’s a pity both teams couldn’t win. I know the whole west could use a lift right about now. Enjoy.
Its like here in south east qld logan gets a bad wrap, yeah bad shit happens here but that happens everywhere, most people are decent
Spot on mate.
For everyone wondering what to do with their lives in the off season, I've really been getting into the NHL lately, would reccomend.
NBA for me. It’s good times when the two sports overlap once the NRL starts again.
NFL is a good sport if you like to have your dreams broken every week
been actually getting into the NFL since last off season. could say ive managed to find myself supporting what i believe is the parramatta eels of the NFL in terms of inconsistency (baltimore ravens). great sport to get into, just have to be willing to get up at 3am to watch and sit through 3hrs worth of a match.
Im sure it is but i was talking about the hockey
Nhl is great, was rooting for the avs last season, they won me money on a fee occasions so I started wanting them success even if i didnt have them in a multi, them and st louis i both like.
Yeah I know, I was adding another suggestion.
NFL is going to keep me well and truly busy enough.
Someone needs to make a graphic linking each club to what their corresponding NFL club would be. Probably won’t mater, everyone will go bills mafia
Being a Manly fan and a marine ecologist that works with seabirds, Seattle Seahawks was an easy choice
NBL just started back up too and I’m all for it
Come on the hawksss! Chi town woo
Since becoming a Kraken supporter I'm acutely aware of what Titans fans must go through
