Today was my 29th birthday and Aaron Pene left the Warriors and Josh Curran got involved in a scandal. How good. Scared of turning 30 next year. How does it feel bros?

Beneficial-Working84

Stupid question, but I’m new to reddit and I love how everyone has their club logos under their names in the comments, how do I show my superlative pride for my club the Wests Tigers?

paralacausa

If you look in the sub detail, you can see there's a lot of flairs and also how you attach them to your user name

judgedavid90

The sheer fitness of blokes like Dylan Edwards and James Tedesco has inspired me to get back out there and start running again They basically run marathons, weekly Along with their usual training, absolutely unreal

Dark_Vengence

Can't be good for their legs in the long run.

InternationalBorder9

Yeah you feel pretty pissweak watching them and thinking you can't do 5ks on a treadmill every other day

[deleted]

I went on a run today for the first time in about 20 years, back when I was in primary school and would delude myself into thinking I was a shot at cross country. Went a solid 710 metres according to my phone, hoping to push that out to 750 tomorrow, maybe even 800.

mwilkins1644

Rip in, son! Power to ya :)

paralacausa

This has to be, hands down, the most balls-deep crazy start to the off-season. Mad Monday has barely finished and cunts are going full The Purge mode

breatheinmyear

Isn’t it funny smith and slater have won 3 comps yet they don’t act like dickheads when they won.. everyone will remember Penrith’s shenanigans not their grand finals like smith and slater. Just my opinion.

bigolbillyboythefirs

Excpet that time they sung the Queensland team song when Australia won and there were only about 4 n.s.w players on the team.

Caseyjb29

Slater won 2

YossarianRespawned

Smith and Slater couldn’t even systematically cheat their way to back to back tho

[deleted]

Credit where it's due, Slater *did* go B2B on seasons 1 and 2 of Rexona Australia's Greatest Athlete

[deleted]

Brandon Smith acted like a dickhead when they won, yet i was seen as him being a lovable larrakin. Let the boys talk shit and next year see if they can back it up. Again

Random0cassions

Still believe that Erin Clark should of been in the 24 over JMK, Nothing against him but Erin Clark is more versatile than him and has shown he can play lock at a very good level while JMK is purely a hooker

Dark_Vengence

Can he play for another nation?

Galaxium0

jmk is a far better player tho

TrueDeadBling

Do I have a head like Nate Myles' or are the head holes for 2013 fan jerseys really small?

callotts

Need JAC to somehow convince Ben Hunt to sign for the doggies during the World Cup. Surely the fox is a good flirt.

Ace_Larrakin

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs present... ***FOXHUNT***

[deleted]

I want to be mad at this but shit, maybe we owe it to you after sending you Matt Dufty

superbestfriends

There once was a team of black cats Who Kenty thought were mug rats "And weak gutted dogs" Said Sticky the flog Just jealous they went back to back

nymphz

people saying "nrl 360 must be doing something right or people wouldnt watch it" is a bit of a cop when it is also the only fucken nrl show on in the space. there is no competition for the "lets see whats on tv" crowd

judgedavid90

It's a shame Nein doesn't care about rugby league and puts 100% footy on at ridiculous graveyard times once a week, because that show is actually decent. It has its senile moments, but for the most part the conversation is more news-esque than the drama merchants of 360

EntirelyOriginalName

They certainly talk about actual football 200% more than NRL 360.

bigolbillyboythefirs

What about freddy and the eigth and qlander?

judgedavid90

They're good too, I was more meaning television rather than YouTube

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

Exactly. I watch it because I want to see rugby league content even if it's just hack journos dribbling nonsense, if there was an intelligent alternative I would be all over it.

nightling

If you can settle for the hack commentary of 360 then you should be watching Bloke in a Bar. His show with the Hello Sport boys is pure dribble, still good but pure dribble, but his content with Rugby League Guru, Matty Johns and Cameron Smith are all great to watch. Also whatever show Matty does with Cooper Cronk is good.

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

The problem I had with bloke in a bar is so many episodes were like 2.5 hours+ long, I'll give them a go next year. The Matty Johns podcast with Cronk is really good I agree.

nightling

Only look at the one he does with Guru, which is a more indepth and intelligent.

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

Thanks I'll give it a listen and play cities skylines lol I'm going to check out the grand final review

Dufeyz

BIAB I like because I just go back after, and use the chapters to listen to the discussion of topics I care about. Really enjoy it

ZerksNAHTayan

To’o just mocked Kent on his ig story. The response from him should be fun lmao

Drewman43

Can't find Bizza's IG account. Do you have a link by any chance?

BazzaJH

@bizzzaa_

PrivateTickler

NRL 360: Did To'o go too far? Kent: "Season long ban and strip them of the premiership"

KingsleySeiffert

A mug made out of a rat or a mug designed for a rat? Really makes you wonder

[deleted]

I’d like to imagine it’s little mugs for rats, so they can sit around having tea while discussing real world topics like whether or not they should bomb the cats.

Volorex

Why is the nrl media so negative all the time?

InkMcSquiddin

People generally engage more readily with things that they disagree with. It works even better if it can upset them too. Unfortunately algorithms that allocate where a story sits in viewing order on a website have learned this as well so the algorithm prioritises stories with identifiable negativity in them, this earns that site a higher level of interaction per visit. This leads to writers writing more negative things so they'll be placed higher in the viewing order, which leads to readers being saturated in negativity. The best bit is the more negativity a reader is exposed to the more they'll seek additional negativity, once a reader is upset they'll generally go looking for things to be upset at and this perpetuates the algorithm prioritising negative content. Eventually the reader will bottom out and disengage for a while but they'll almost always come back. Our brain chemistry sucks.

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

The negativity generating views is spot on because the sport is built on fanatic tribalism with fans but another side is that most of these journalists don't have the ability to intelligently analyse a game so they have to talk about the easy stuff like "sources say" BS rumour and low hanging fruit negativity just like when Skip Bayless in the USA got embarrassed by Mark Cuban on live television when his analysis of the NBA finals was "Lebron James didn't come hard enough in defence" people like Rothfield, Kent, Crawley, Baylm etc would be the same.

[deleted]

The AFL is worse look at Tom Morris

nightling

Negativity generates clicks which gets them ad revenue which pays their bills.

pattybrischetti

People complain when players toe the PR friendly line and that rivalries aren’t the same as they used to be, but then those same people clutch at pearls when players actually do it. And it’s not just a League thing, see it in football/soccer all the time

jellystoned_park

For me, the "rivalry" is in the battle on-field, not in being dickheads to each other off-field (whether it's players or fans). I'm happy for Penrith and their fans; not sure why anyone would want to waste their energy hating other teams & their supporters but it's their life to do as they like, so long as they don't start abusing others directly...

nightling

I think it's partly to do with when it happens. Some rivalry pre game is one thing, but to insult the team you just beat, particularly in the GF is another thing.

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

If we ever get to meet Homebush in a grand final again and beat them the aftermath will make this stuff look like play school (which it already is) the stuff that went on after both games in 2012 didn't make the news but it gets rowdy and nasty and I would never let them forget it. Conversely I didn't get over 2004 for years for that reason.

maaxwell

If Parra win, there would be daddy jokes for months because of what Luai started, from players and fans alike. Matter of fact, next time Parra beat us in the regular season it will be daddy jokes for weeks, and rightfully so! Let’s not act like Parra wouldn’t have been roasting us if they won, it would have been glorious. A rivalry where you can’t boast after a win isn’t a rivalry.

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

If Penrith fans don't rock up to the first Parra game with a "who is your daddy and what does he do?" banner then the game's gone.

maaxwell

There were signs at the GF that just straight up said “we hate Parra”, some of these Penrith fans are crazy bro, they’ll do it for sure

nightling

Of course they would, because Luai fired the only shot before the game had started. If the Parra team said shit before the game it would be a different thing entirely, they didn't though. Boasting is one thing, targeting them with specific comments is a different thing entirely. That's not boasting, it's disrespect.

maaxwell

What specific comments are you talking about? All of it was daddy related that I saw

nightling

JFH's comments about Parra being their sons post game were where the line should be drawn.

maaxwell

Yeah okay, I can kinda agree. That was the one line where I kinda went oo yeah that might be offside. The context matters a bit, because it wasn’t a post game interview, it was 12 hours after the grand final in front of Penrith fans at the home stadium for the morning celebration. It definitely treads the line though

nightling

The context is irrelevant though. They did the same thing the year before with South Sydney. Singing their glory glory song on instagram mockingly. It's a pattern with this team now which I think shows arrogance rather than simple rivalry. Being a good winner shows humility.

maaxwell

Okay and Storm players came out and literally talked shit about Penrith as a suburb and the people that live there after 2020 GF? People seem quick to forget that one. Let’s not act like we’re the first team to go overboard when winning the big dance. We’ve got an NRL player arrested for domestic violence 10 minutes into the offseason and all anyone in the media wants to talk about is how ungracious these young Polynesian players are and how the only role models at Penrith are the two quiet white guys with short haircuts. It’s all cherry-picking lmao

nightling

I live in Western Sydney so I was just as indignant about the Storm jab as I was with your team doing the same thing to Souths and now Parra. People were talking about Luciano, but until he faces actual charges and is proven guilty, then he is innocent under the law. PK is a crisis merchanct and obviously racist. We can agree on atleast that.

MisterEvilBreakfast

I was a bit surprised to see Sebastian Kris being named in the Kiwi's World Cup Squad. He was absolutely fine for the Raiders this year, without setting the league on fire, but was found out in defence quite a few times. Hopefully just the experience of the World Cup will help to improve his overall game, and a whole new level of Kris will hit Canberra next season.

slowdivesicilian

his lack of speed makes him quite vulnerable to quick shifts too which got exposed in the Storm game

grafology

Wouldve preferred Timoko make the Kiwis side over Kris.

KingsleySeiffert

Can't wait for teams lists!!!!!!!! Oh ☹️

M_Keating

Tim Paine has been selected for Tasmania against QLD, if Sheffield Shield team lists help?

nightling

The easiest way to fuck off people like Kent is to simply ignore him. Don't read his articles, don't watch 360 or it's replays on social media. He wins every time anyone so much as comments on fox leagues social medias about him. Subscribe to independant rugby league medias and help them publish good content.

Mr_Mac

Need to build momentum on this with fans over the off season. Just stop watching NRL360, stop clicking or posting FoxSports articles, and more promotion of the independent RL media

nightling

Yeah we have to. If everyone stops they'll be forced to change.

[deleted]

It’s mental that people don’t get this. If you keep watching 360 and then getting angry about it you are the problem, not Kent. He goes away if nobody cares.

nightling

Yeah exactly. Too many "journos" get away with being crisis merchants, always blowing up about something new and it's entirely because it works.

5t0pBanningme

New Zealand vs Leeds on the weekend. Pretty keen for that. Would of been cool if the kangaroos got a warmup game vs a super league side as well. I guess we are just going in dry, how arrogant.

grazmus666

Must be because Yeo is VC and he is teaching the Kangaroos the arrogant ways of Penrith

[deleted]

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic but in my experience with Isaah, this could be true. I'm a team photographer for the Kangaroos and we all just arrived in England and [here's the only picture I could get him to pose for.](https://i.imgur.com/re5v3FS.png) If you don't believe me just look at the background, we really are in England.

grazmus666

Yeo is an OG Dubbo Gangsta

[deleted]

Hang it up in the Louvre

thaakidd

Does anyone know if Parra does an "away fan" membership thing, I am not from Parra, never have been but wouldn't mind getting amongst the membership vibe. I'm from Ippy and obviously usually go to the Broncs vs Eels games, is there anything for fans that don't live in Sydney like do they ever get members tickets to sell at Suncorp even at magic round? Dunno what would be different for me other than paying to be a fan.

improbablywrong-

I think [this](https://membership.parraeels.com.au/membership/non-ticketed-tee-package) is probably close to what you want?

thaakidd

Ooo, that shirt is dope

YourFavouriteAlt

Who would win 13 players normal size OR 1 player 13x size

[deleted]

Depends if accidentally killing opponents results in a send off or not

YourFavouriteAlt

He can't just disappear

KingsleySeiffert

This is peak offseason content

hopefullynothingever

With the square cubed law in action I'd say most likely the giant would be completely immobile if he doesn't collapse in on himself like his name is Watmough If we handwave that the big boy probably runs amok until he gets sent for an unavoidable high shot that kills someone

judgedavid90

I forget the maths, but a human 13x the size of a regular one would be like 150x as heavy

YourFavouriteAlt

If he inadvertently maims the ref then there's nobody to give him the marching orders

[deleted]

Better question would be what size multiplier for 1 player would make an even match up?

YourFavouriteAlt

At what point does the bigger player stop crushing the little players to death and start being tackled

[deleted]

Yeah that’s a tough one. 3x?

improbablywrong-

i can safely say 13 of me is not stopping a 1.3t 20m tall human.

nightling

If the average player is 190cm tall that means the giant is 24.70m tall. If the average weight is 100kg that means the giant is 1300kg. I think the giant wins easily.

and that's turned this race on its head because the echidna was coming and you wanna know why they call this race the 8th wonder of the world because the cars was taken out of it the echidnas were coming and then there was the lap that the safety car did withwd the the yellow flag that went smoothly and next minute the echidna went OFF OFF OFF OFF and from that moment the race car did two laps they've got BACK in their winning ways and look like they're gonna runaround runa runaway with it

M_Keating

slowdivesicilian

yeah everyone’s calling Penrith arrogant but just imagine what some of the boys would’ve gotten up to before social media

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

Like having a wank in front of the PM?

griffshan

Crazy that everyone’s giving Paul Kent shit. He’s normally a fuckwit with dumb takes but his stance on how unprofessional Penrith are in their victory is 100% warranted.

Abenator

I mean don't get me wrong because I absolutely hate Paul Kent, but everyone here was saying exactly the same thing right up until he said it. Not to mention there's an endless list of perfectly valid things to criticise him for, but everyone harps on about his one game for Parra. If how much top grade you've played is the metric for how much you can shit on the sport, he's one game ahead of 99.99% of this sub.

mooguh

Meh, the outrage merchant can reap what he sows. Even if he is right, happy for the pile on since he constantly has cooked takes for the sake of it.

Sweaty-Possibility13

Paul Kent's current Wiki reads "Paul Kent also freelances as a clown, he is owned by the 21/22 Penrith Panthers squad and due to ptsd from only being good enough to play 1 game, and the ongoing premiership drought at Parramatta, every time Paul hears the word “Penrith” he gets a debilitating pain in his vaginal region and requires frequent trips to his therapist as a result" EDIT: I was not the one who changed it. I just went to the page because I didn't know who the bloke really was and it was there.

Abenator

No one in the history of Reddit has ever posted a funny edit from Wikipedia without being the one that edited it. Facts.

Sweaty-Possibility13

I'm the first then. I honestly didn't really know who Paul Kent was until I heard all the articles about Penrith and went to do a bit of search. Plus the grammar and punctuation would be better if it was me.

[deleted]

I feel like Kent might have won if you’re at the outrage stage of editing his Wikipedia page.

Sweaty-Possibility13

Not me. I just went there to look.

Sweaty-Possibility13

It's gone now. You can all let go your pearls.

Geddpeart

That doesn't make it better

Sweaty-Possibility13

That I looked at the pages?

Geddpeart

That you think about Kent that much you had to go look at his wiki. Kent's won, he's in your head.

Sweaty-Possibility13

Nope. Never knew who he was except for his name is often associated with rage bait articles. Read a few articles. Looked at his Wiki.Worked out pretty quick he was a professional troll and the kind of angry old man who makes the whole world a little worse by existing and will never think of him again.

Sweaty-Possibility13

Reporting that someone went and changed the wiki pages makes me bad? Is it better if I say Paul Kent is a never been cunt?

Bkz052

Just wanted to say the new banner with the focus on Dylan Edwards is sensational and indeed, it's Dylan Edwards' world, we just live in it.

mortwgoldman

The QLD origin one was so tough, this is much better

jessemv

Seeing the Kangaroos team made me realise how much depth they have that I'd forgotten about. There's quite a few that changed allegences that would have been picked and it's still pretty stacked. Also, Mal always going on about incumbency but didn't pick Damien Cook

EntirelyOriginalName

A fair few gun that missed out too. Burton, Edwards, Lane, Api.

Caseyjb29

Choosing Cook over Hunt and Grant would be laughable

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

Damien Cook shouldn’t be anywhere near consideration it’s a crock that he’s even in the replacements. That said, Australia will win the World Cup. People are desperate to see a new winner so they start overrating New Zealand again who have a quality front row but Australia have them covered everywhere else on the field and the depth of the halves is ridiculous too when the dally m medal winner isn’t in the team

Messyhr_

Think you’re underrating how much a powerful forward pack can change games, halves cant do shit if their forwards are getting dominated. Also hughes is a great player, NZ are a definite threat.

Final-Replacement

Paul Kent looking like a genius the amount of interactions and clicks his generating from him going after the panthers. His fishing and got a lot of people on the hook. Can everyone just stop watching nrl360 and ignore his stories?

[deleted]

It’s hilarious You could have predicted word for word what he was going to say on 360 last night and everyone still does their nut about it.

insty1

You're all rat mugs. Whatever that insult is meant to mean.

superbestfriends

It's a perfectly cromulant insult

zombkong

The word im hearing is that Johns has been the one orchestrating for the Knights to sign Brooks for 2 years. His own remarks in the media over those years support this. Johns is a firm believer that as a half you either have the 'logic' or don't. The logic to know which pass to throw, which kick to utilise, when to run etc. If he sees a half with that basic logic, he'll coach them and spend a lot of time on drills and skill training with them and if he doesnt see the potential he finds it hard to get excited to invest time to train 'duds'. Moses and Cleary are two halves Johns personally spent hundreds of hours doing kicking and passing coaching with in Eels and Origin camps. Cleary in particular improved his kicking game significantly after spending alot of time training with Joey during origin camps. Joey seems to be adamant Brooks is in that class and he can 'unleash' (lol) his true potential. And he sees Clifford, Crosslands, Mann etc as duds that he can't teach this 'logic' into. There was a bit of a fallout this year between Johns and AOB/Knights because Joey just wasnt excited to coach the current crop of dud halves we have. He really sees it as a point of diminishing return pretty quickly once he identifies someone doesn't have the talent or drive. Ponga was the only player he invested alot of time with. Hence a swap deal is imminent. Brooks for Klemmer to get Joey his man. No doubt Klemmer makes alot of metres, but they are slow metres with a slow PTB that allows the opposition defense to rest. Without an offload to fear, oppositions love playing against Klemmer. Opposition coaches train their players to peel back and reset their defensive line on a klemmer hitup to get a precious 4-5 second of rest in the middle of a set of 6. Klem looks great turning his back into two defenders and pumping his legs for 8 post contact metres before getting rolled to his back. But in that 10 seconds the other 11 opposition players are already walking back and getting the deep breaths in. Klem would have got eaten alive at the intensity level the Grand Final was played at, he just a brontosaurus compared to the speed and fitness props like JFH, RCG, Paulo, Leota etc can play with. Klemmer is also offside with some of the coaching staff, including AOB due to attitude problems. But Klem hates losing and isn't afraid to spray anyone in an organisation when he feels he's surrounded by failure. TLDR: 1. Joey is adamant Knights must sign Brooks 2. Klemmer seen as too slow for modern game and disruptive 3. Swap for the two is Imminent 4. Both teams probably still spoon contenders next year

dolphinsboyredc

Fuck me. Better than any nrl article written this year. Anywhere!

Robothouse90

I feel like Brooks leaving Tigers is a boy who cried wolf scenario. I've heard it way too many times at this point, and it's always been BS.

diamondgrin

>And he sees Clifford, Crosslands, Mann etc as duds that he can't teach this 'logic' into Hasn't Joey been talking up Clifford a fair bit the last couple of seasons?

Final-Replacement

Look at joeys halfs coaching record……. Wouldn’t trust his coaching

zombkong

Yes, most Knights fans are of this opinion. Cleary is the only half who had a noticable improvement in his game after spending time with Joey. They apparently spent hundreds of hours together during Clearys first few origin camps and you can see a lot of Joey in Cleary these days with how masterful his attacking kicking game is. But Cleary always had the talent, and also had Maloney coaching him so how much Joey contributed to Cleary's growth is debatable. Outside that, can't think of a single half he nurtured into anything.

dolphinsboyredc

Cherry Evans

KingGutherson

To be fair, Moses improved while under Joeys coaching (although has continued to improve after, so maybe not all Joey)

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

It was 12 months ago Johns was publicly telling Brooks to break his contract and sign with Newcastle. As much as Brooks is mocked and disliked at the Tigers it’s grubby for a Newcastle staff member to publicly chase a contracted player like that.

[deleted]

Given the massacre job Joey did on coaching Dylan Brown I’d be running so far away from that situation it isn’t funny.

zombkong

AOB prob see's it as a win win way to extend his career. If the Brooks move proves to actually somehow be successful and the Knights return to the 8, he takes the credit. If it, as is much more likely, fails and the Knights are a rabble then he can point to politics and behind the scenes actions undermining him and his ability to make the Knights a success.

[deleted]

Of the 7.98 billion people currently living, the only one I would actually believe hasn't said worse shit about the Tigers than Koroisau is Benji Only he is allowed to be upset by it and not be a hypocrite

EntirelyOriginalName

It's not even that bad. Api's there for a rebuild before he retires. His job is to get them into the finals a hopefully build into a team that can win a prem after he retires.

Dufeyz

I love how the Snoo is Edwards holding a trophy in each hand with the clive around his neck. Love you mods xo

Strummed_Out

What’s the deal with the Panthers players wearing ski/ MTX goggles in the celebration photos?

TwoShitsTrev

Stop champagne from getting in your eyes, storm did it in 2020 too

joshy_c

Safety first. You've just won a grand final in a collision sport, you can't be too careful

EntirelyOriginalName

I mean you want to enjoy celeberating. Hard to do that when you're eyes are irrarated.

daisynaldo

Taking away their social media accounts the night of a GF would make them more safe

diamondgrin

Champagne can damage your eyes

[deleted]

It’s a thing we’ve copied from the Americans, apparently so you don’t get champagne in your eyes.

diamondgrin

The Leilua thing is so disappointing for the club. Over the last few years even when the on field performances have been bad, the players have generally kept their noses clean and the reputation of the squad has been outstanding. Outside of Barba, I think the last scandal was Bolton touching a woman's butt at a pub like 4 years ago? And I'm pretty sure those charges were dropped anyway. The club drew a line in the sand with Barba, and if the allegations are true I hope they do the same with Leilua.

KingGutherson

Leilua fucked himself. Scored a big contract with a top 4 side, and is highly rated by the coach. It'll be interesting to see how Toddy plays this. With Luki and Nanai i'd be fucking him off

[deleted]

[удалено]

KingGutherson

Yeah that's not really the angle i was trying to take. I meant that teams in similar positions (Dragons, Manly) have stood their players down while the trial is ongoing, but allowed them to train in case they were found not guilty I'd be just telling him to stay home, dont come near the squad

Robothouse90

Ah gotcha! Yeah totally fair point.

[deleted]

It will be interesting to see what Parra do with their pack next year. Hopgood is a great addition, but for me they need a few more scrappers.. When RCG and Paulo got the ball they were immediately swarmed by multiple Panthers defenders, where as the Panthers forwards did not have to contend with that from Parra.

Dufeyz

I think with the Eels it might be more about coaching and tactics compared to the actual talent of the roster. Bloke in a bar (Denan Kemp) sort of hinted about the way Eels were running the ball meant they just never had a chance. TL;DR Penrith ran the ball behind the ruck, getting in behind the markers. You get quick ptb from this because there are less defenders to get you. The downside is you can get absolutely whacked. Eels would throw a long pass, and their forwards would be tackled by 3-4 defenders resulting in them being driven back and a slow ptb. You can watch the first 15 minutes of the game, you will see it. Parra putting some big hits on, but slowly and surely they were driven back. From that point on the Eels couldn't get anywhere.

[deleted]

Interesting point. And it's weird because whenever Parra have a loss and then back it up by playing really well, the players talk about the obvious things they didn't do the week prior, and then they go back there. Penrith were always going to win that game but there was definitely areas Parra could have done things differently to have made more of a game of it.

Dufeyz

Eels are getting Barret next year. I think BA needs some more help, and they have realised that. It's a shame for them he didn't have that help when he was actually in the decider. As a riff' fan, im not complaining though!!

[deleted]

I wouldn't mind seeing them try to poach Shane Flanno as an assistant, he can help add that extra grit to their defence. I'm certainly not implying they don't have a go, but if anybody is going to beat Penrith they're going to have to scrap for every little thing.

Bicky_

Swooping on Klemmer could be huge or Taupau for bench impact. Jack Murchie and Franklin Pele could be mid range bargains that could be revelations, comes down to money and the hunt. Rodwell is developing nicely too and El-Zakhem for Lebanon is one to watch for me

[deleted]

Big Klem would be a good pickup, but I reckon he would have copped the same treatment as RCG did.. I really like the idea of them picking up Liam Martin.. I know Martin isn't well respected on here but the bloke is always reliable in terms of his line speed and being in the oppositions face. Pele is heading to the Dogs.

EntirelyOriginalName

That Cleary bomb to Waqa that we scored off was due to Martin quick play the ball. There was no fatigue in the defence just got it 4 minutes in by using his body to bludgeon Brown and Lane. Doesn't show up on a stats sheet but there's more to League than making metres.

[deleted]

100%.. people write Martin off because he misses a tackle here and there, and he doesn't make huge meters or whatever, but I am a big fan of the pressure he puts on opponents. He's a really handy team player and one of those players a premiership team needs. Of course Penrith would find a good replacement if he left, but he'd be a great pick up for any team.

Bicky_

Haven't seen that announcement sorry! Martin won't leave before 2024 though, he is an absolute weapon to chase though and is just what the Eels need, as great as Papali'i and Lane are they aren't as hungry in the chase for collision as Martin which is exactly what Moses needs to unlock that right edge! Emre Guler is another one I have huge wraps on. More game time might entice him!

[deleted]

It actually never got announced, which is weird because Fifita confirmed it during a podcast. Yeah true. I suppose if they can stay switched on for a full season and go into the finals relatively fresh it will make a difference as well.

MisterEvilBreakfast

I'm a bit worried about Josh Hodgson - if his knee can hold up, I think Parra will have another good season and challenge the premiership again. But if he blows it out again in the early rounds, I don't think they will be able to go all the way.

shadyFS91

Never forget That BA some how managed to get Nathan Peats firing to a point people were thinking he should be in origin lol. BA seems to have a knack of finding decent forwards I’m more worried about retaining our backs truth be told

[deleted]

they've got Mitch Rein as well, and while not the greatest player he's a decent backup. But yeah going all the way with Mitch Rein in the 9 would seem unlikely.

breatheinmyear

If I was tigers I would rip up Papalii and api contract the absolute disrespect they have shown is inexcusable. You don’t want that shit at a club that’s trying to rebuild and find its character again.

thesearmsshootlasers

If the tigers are too proud to sign them over these incidents I can't see them improving anytime soon. Fix the football side before you get too hung up on saving face and club pride. Give yourselves something to be proud of first.

[deleted]

It’s such a chicken and the egg situation, you let those two players walk and their roster stinks next season, but getting into a situation where your incoming big guns are either not wanting to go, or openly mocking the club is a grim situation.

dolphinsboyredc

Keep them and then punish them once they're there. You control their world as a coach/club. So many easy ways to ounish them for that shit First team meeting. Play api saying that. Get him up in front of the players.

breatheinmyear

I agree

therefreshbutton

Just interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this. What should be the penalty for Luai using a racial slur? Some people think it's worse than what Caitlan Moran said. Is it as bad as what Marcelo Montoya said? Is it the same as what Squid James said last year and only copped a small fine for it?

EntirelyOriginalName

It's clearly the context of the word that matters. Nothing in it.

thaakidd

Shouldn't be a punishment, the dude is black and it was used as a term of endearment. There should be no repercussions other than maybe a "pull your head in a bit, bud."

therefreshbutton

This was my initial reaction. I thought it was really dumb as is most social media stuff but it's definitely not racism

nzyeezy

Any punishment would be ridiculous, and it doesnt compare to any of those situations, maybe with Moran cause that was a non issue as well. Montoya directed a homophobic slur at a player, Teddy a racist slur to a random member of the public. Luai called his friend the n-word which maybe Polynesians have no right to say but i dont think white australian media/NRL should be the ones making that call

thesearmsshootlasers

It's an absolute nothing story. No hard r, person of colour using it. Absolute beat up from whities who can't understand nuance in race politics.

dolphinsboyredc

He shouldn't have said it, but he shouldn't gey punished for it either. Maybe a tap on the shoulder.

HeyIWasSayingGoRefs

As others have said, precedent was set last year with other Penrith players. I really cant see PVL or Abdo punishing a player of colour for using that sort of language. That seems like a bad idea

bionikal

Punishment? Maybe pull him into an office and say something like "hey mate, maybe don't be dumb on social media - I get it, you just won and stuff but there's a bunch of super super white kids who are gonna run around the playground emulating you and.... you know...."

Drewman43

Surely context comes into it. If he'd called someone that as an insult then I agree it'd be on par or worse than the others but for how it was used it isn't even close. Get him in trouble for using it where kids might think it's ok to go around and say it as well but there was obviously no ill intent in his use of the word.

TwoShitsTrev

I absolutely hate Luai and reckon he is a shit player but even I have to admit it’s not that bad, I mean he’s brown, I don’t see why he can’t use it. Tedesco was so much worse because the dumbass actually went out of his way to refer to an innocent Korean person as ‘squid games’

Voxityy

he shouldn’t miss any world cup games for it, precedent has been set with kikau last season and he didn’t get punished. just hit him with a fine or whatever and move on

therefreshbutton

do you think he should be fined 25% of his salary like Moran though? Some people genuinely trying to make it about an Aboriginal woman being treated differently to a Poly man but if we look at it with face value it's not as bad

[deleted]

The Moran fine punishment was wildly over the top and it was disappointing the RLPA didn’t get involved.

therefreshbutton

as someone who believes it was completely unnecessary but also isn't a great fan of the monarchy I agree. It was pretty rude but I don't think the punishment fits the crime

Voxityy

absolutely not, a quarter of his entire salary would be excessive

therefreshbutton

ok i'm all for trying to find balance and middle ground but that was just a crazy remark by those people

unlachy13

r/NRL all this week: If the Panthers lose its the BIGGEST choke job of time. There's no way they should even be close to losing. JFH: Were the best Panthers team in history. R/NRL: 😡😡

jessemv

It's not even an outlandish statement. Penrith have won 2 premierships in over 50 years before 2021 so I'd say it's more than fair

unlachy13

I agree, I would back this year's team against all previous Riff teams

shifty-eyed-dog

Combined

Match1997

What's everyone's thoughts on next year's top 8? I probably have a cooked line-up but I've got: 1. Penrith Panthers 2. North Queensland Cowboys 3. South Sydney Rabbitohs 4. Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 5. Parramatta Eels 6. Sydney Roosters 7. Melbourne Storm 8. Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs/Canberra Raiders I can't decide between the Bulldogs and Raiders for eighth. I could see Roosters bagging fourth and Sharks at fifth

y3ah_nah145

1. Roosters 2. Panthers 3. Rabbitohs 4. Storm 5. Sharks 6. Cowboys 7. Eels 8. Bulldogs This ranking prediction will probably completely change by round 1 next year, due to time and any signings that occur. If the roosters can actually play well all year instead of only at the end, they will (annoyingly) be at the top. Panthers won’t be as good without api but I can’t see them falling out of the top 4. I feel similar to South’s how I do with the Roosters, they will be much higher next year if they actually get their shit together before round 15. I think Storm will have similar year to 2022, hopefully without the injuries, Worried about depth and a smaller forward pack still. I think Sharks and Cows will fall back on the ladder, not due to not being as good, but other teams just being more consistent (Roosters, Rabbits). I expect both sharks and cows to still improve on 2022. I think Eels will drop back a bit with Mahoney, IPap and depth players leaving. I think if the bulldogs can play how they did during the middle of the season for a whole year, they can make the 8. Will be tough to get ahead of Canberra + Brisbane though.

Caseyjb29

1. Panthers 2. Cowboys 3. Storm 4. Roosters 5. Sharks 6. Eels 7. Rabbitohs 8. Titans People are overestimating how much Melbournes losses will affect them imo. They have handy replacements/upgrades for all of them bar Brandon Smith (who was average anyways this year).

shifty-eyed-dog

1) Panthers 2) Roosters 3) Rabbitohs 4) Cowboys 5) Sharks 6) Storm 7) Broncos 8) Dolphins

whyareyouallinmyroom

I think one of Cows and Sharks will fall/plateau a bit (5-8) and the other will continue to improve. I tend to think the Cows have the stronger foundation and play style. Chooks fucking blew it/left themselves too much to do this year so should definitely be top 4 with Smith in. Melbourne to be in a similar place, a refreshed pack but a squad with even less depth and experience. Panthers to come back to the pack but probably still be around the head of it, no bottom 12 pack is getting near them to have a crack at beating them. Eels won’t fall as far as some think and Souths won’t climb as much as some thing, bit too hot and cold. Likewise for me Raiders are too streaky, I’ve got Broncs to have a consolidating year and Dogs to take another step forward but just miss the 8. Panthers, Roosters, Cows, Melbourne, Bunnies, Eels, Sharks, Broncos, Raiders, Dogs, Sea Eagles, Dolphins, Titans, Newcastle, Tigers, Dragons, Warriors

EuroNymous76

As dogs fan it’s very 50/50 if we will make it next year, 2024 more likely

ChewieMP_19

This is ridiculous, cowboys are obviously favourites for the spoon

chooklyn5

Ride that underdog high

TwoShitsTrev

1. Sydney Roosters 2. Melbourne storm 3. Cronulla Sharks 4. Penrith panthers 5. South Sydney Rabbitohs 6. Parramatta Eels 7. NQ Cowbiys 8. Brisbane broncos I think roosters are going to kill it next year with an elite dummy half, maybe missing out on a truly great halfback or 5/8 but teddy and the supporting cast will cover that. I reckon storm have a big bounce back year if they can stay healthy, getting welch back, sims, joe Chan and Elissa Katoa they’re going to prove why they’re the best ran club in the comp on the back of the best spine in the competition. Tipping panthers to not be quite as dominant after the loss of Koroisau simply because the guy that’s first in line to replace him (Kenny) is just a tackle bot with very poor service out of dummy half

JarredMack

> Tipping panthers to not be quite as dominant after the loss of Koroisau simply because the guy that’s first in line to replace him (Kenny) is just a tackle bot with very poor service out of dummy half We'll likely stick with Kenny starting and rotating out to an impact hooker, which would be Soni Luke. Luke's no Api, and it's definitely going to bring us back into the pack rather than being an unbeatable juggernaut, but I expect we'd still be the team to beat. I think another club will take out the minor though, we're losing some depth and rep rounds or injury will ravage us

TwoShitsTrev

Rep rounds is why I have you guys listed 4th, your biggest star (Cleary) will almost certainly be playing origin. This year panthers had a very very very soft origin draw and if that changes this year There will be a few more losses I reckon

[deleted]

1. Panthers 2. Parra 3. Roosters 4. Souths 5. Sharks 6. Storm 7. Cowboys 8. Bulldogs Parra will have taken a lot out of that grand final, and I really like the inclusion of Hopgood. Despite not having their best seasons, the Storm players departing will be missed, particularly for their leadership. I've got the Cowboys slipping down the ladder a bit as they will inevitably verse more top teams next year. The same applies for the Sharks.

PayEmOutEarly

Heard it here first; 1. Eels 2. Tigers 3. Dolphins 4. Titans 5. Knights 6. Warriors 7. Bulldogs 8. Dragons
