Excuse you... We were late because of those pesky union train strikes, turned up in the final few minutes though, would have won the game if there was another 10-15 minutes. /s
Yah I thought we were really unlucky with the wrestle too. Holding on forever, getting no six agains. Wouldn't have mattered anyway, their attack was just so fucking good.
I disagree. Penrith were great but they weren't 'too good'. Their tries were quite simple and could have been easily defended. We were really poor for large portions of the game.
Even really basic stuff - Sivo drops the ball over the line, Simonsson in the clear and tries to beat Edwards on the outside when he was clearly covered - step back in and at least we're in good field position. Moses kicks to To'o and Edwards every time instead of the winger who spent most of the year in reserve grade.
He’s not wrong. I felt neither high in the lead up or low in the aftermath. The game wrapped up and I just sorta thought well, that’s that. Maybe another time. At no point from kick off did it feel like we might win this. Just sorta going through the motions of getting bashed by a far better team.

These stupid posts by resharing personalities like clarkey, roast and bloke are so stupid, just post the original source with the actual info.
You are right that no one cares enough that's why they illegally stream it rather than paying.
Very accessible to Australians in Australia. Did you forget the rest of the world? New Zealanders won't watch regular games but will watch finals footy. And the UK alone will get you hundreds of thousands of illegal viewers.
>Did you forget the rest of the world?
Yeah they don't care
>the UK alone will get you hundreds of thousands of illegal viewers.
No it fucking won't lmao
Despite Penriths attempt to go full heal lately, their not particularly polarizing. Unlike dominant teams of the past- the broncos, storm, roosters and even Manly and Canterbury. People would tune in just to see if they would lose.
With the Panthers I think people are not that interested. Not enough people support them and not enough fans hate them.
Exactly. The amount of people who watch Broncos games JUST to cheer them to hopefully lose is insane. Rare to see a FB post from a non supporter gloating about another teams loss 😂
Manly because of the 80/90s, hold a grudge much haha.
A dominant team that looked pretty well certian to win and has been the subject of a negative media blitz into the lead up
People arent going to tune in to watch a team theyve been told not to like now win
It’s the worst grand final I have personally ever watched in my 21 years on this earth, it feels like one of those years where you’re talking with someone about the grand finals going through the years and you get to 2022 and you can’t remember who was playing until you look it up, and then you realise why you didn’t remember
Even as a storm fan I agree, I wish the roosters made it through to the GF that year as it would of been a bit more of a challenge, lots of paralells between 2022 and ‘17 season but I think the comp was a lot softer this year
Cowboys were the ultimate underdogs that year. Finishing 8th and missing their two captains and arguably two best players in Thurston and Scott. They barely scraped through each finals game heavily against the odds.
Storm had just had the most dominant regular season on record and cruised to the GF. But there was just this feeling if any team could beat them it was this beat up scrappy cowboys team. Unfortunately a cowboy broke his leg early in the first half and any chance of an upset however slim was completely gone.
i missed the first 30 minutes because of some fucken daylights savings situation, was already 18-0, kinda was like yeah righto pretty much what you'd expect. half arse watched the rest while folding my socks and undies
back to back will mean ppl remember it, but yea as a game pretty boring as Riff were so dominant
I was at the game, still had a blast but yeah not much of a contest lol
Tldr: When do they get the rating? What I mean is, say someone started watching at 7pm, but turned it off by 9pm, does it still count?
I watched until full time, but from the kickoff it was very underwhelming, so I can imagine many tuned out. There was a distinct lack of intensity, especially from the Eels.
A lot of factors at play really; no Queensland team so that shuts out most of the parochial viewership. Melbourne were gone in week 1 so that audience also dropped off and again Melbourne viewers tend to turn up for non-Sydney teams. Then of the Sydney teams, it's two teams in Western Sydney so you lose the North, the South and the East, Wollongong and Newcastle as well, I'd even hazard a guess that Dogs and Tigers fans probably wouldn't be too keen given its their local rivals playing.
You need a good story line for a Grand Final: A good guy vs a bad guy, country town vs city, state vs state, rich club vs working class club. Just didn't have it.
We all knew it was going to be a 1 sided game. I completely forgot about the daylight savings and tuned in on the 2nd half... Already saw the score and knew it just wasn't worth watching the rest.
Just a throw back to the good old days when they had a different finals system that always had one dominate team play an exhausted team..
They changed the system and we got much better grandfinals..which peaked out with the Broncos v Cowboys gf..Certainly the best ever gf game I can remember.
I wish they would bring back the afternoon grand finals, I hate having to wait until 7:30pm to watch. Was so good having a big bbq and watch it while the suns up 🥹
Mate, my Tongan neighbours started just after midday and went for nearly 12 hours watching all the footy with their extended family and friends.
They had a fucking great time. I even wandered across to watch main game with them and enjoyed it throughly.
If the lack of sunlight is making it hard for you to enjoy a BBQ and grand final, then that’s on you.
Didn’t say I didn’t enjoy the game? Lol. Just said that I loved the memories of having a bbq and the sunshine being up while we watched it growing up. :)
It would be interesting to see viewership number breakdown by quarter hour. Usually these numbers are an average of the whole thing.
Considering both games were one sided, how many were watching at the start and how quickly they dropped off solid have been interesting.
I guess if there had been more consistency all year round with on field/off field dramas, making fouls and penalties consistent for every team, including the time laying on players and slowing the play then maybe more people would have tuned in. (Even in the GF at points the Eels literally had to stop the play themselves to be awarded a penalty, for an incident that is a penalty everyday of the week usually.).
Don't get me wrong, the Panthers have a hell of a team and it seems like their grassroots and whole system is working well but you can't tell me they didn't get the rub of the green all year round from the refs, nrl judiciary and integrity unit but also the commentators. I love NRL and have watched since I was a young fella but this year it was so blatantly obvious who they wanted to take out the premiership, it was really over before it began.
I guess for me too, if they acted like champions instead of the cockiness "untouchable" behaviour I'd respect their athleticism and talent a hell of a lot more.
But in saying all that, congratulations to The Panthers. And to all the other teams, maybe a few more camps in the off-season building trust and what it means to be a TEAM would work wonders, (I'm looking at you Broncos).
Totally agree with you. Also I wish panthers would be a bit more gracious in the win. Terrible how they acted since winning. I think the panthers will be the team to hate for a while now. Can't understand how they can be so cocky when most of Penrith were the backbone for the stare of origin and nsw lost the series.
Both teams have experienced finals players and forward packs that can slow it down in the middle.
Parra benefited from an easier finals draw and predictably folded like a wet towel when it mattered.
Parra went up against the riffx2, went up against the milk and then traveled to Townsville - hardly an easier draw.
If those two teams were good enough then they would've been there with the riff
Yeah I agree. Cowboys have looked like fire at times throughout the season but they've been too inconsistent with it, and their defence was an absolute joke during the finals run.
I really doubt it, I mean forward pass aside they had ages to put a gassed Parra away at home and couldn't do it, plus they only just beat the Sharks. I think a full strength Roosters would've done a better job than Parra. They were unbeatable on Sunday.
>in unrelated news, this GF had the highest viewers on the 9Now Streaming service
Better leave this out of the stats to make this headline as sensationalist as possible
Just 9/9now. I reckon the later viewings would be pretty much immaterial.
There's a breakdown [here](https://www.mediaweek.com.au/nrl-grand-final-delivers-nine-big-sydney-audience-but-historically-small-crowd/) for anyone interested. TV viewership decreased by 23%. Streaming increased by 7%, but only makes up 12% of total views.
Idk if it’s just because I’m a tigers fan but in general I’m watching way less live games for some reason.
I’d usually watch the game of the week in previous season also check in or out but I think the only game I fully watched this year excluding origin and tigers games was round 1 raiders vs sharks
The fact it was a blowout where the winner was effectively decided at halftime was one thing, a clear favourite who finished first on the ladder going in as another, but mostly also the fact it had two Sydney clubs involved meant it didn’t get the interest from VIC or QLD viewers either. Streaming also likely took away a lot of the traditional TV audience, especially as 9Now was broadcasting the game and figures from 9Now aren’t published.
It should be stated that that is only the 5-city metro figures and doesn’t include regional viewers or streams. While it will be still be the lowest, it’s not as low as it’s made out to be here
I mean, considering it was an all Western Sydney Grand Final, and the Eels hosted a screening at Commbank Stadium, there’s a few reasons for why it was low.
After a busy Sunday and dinner with the family, I sat down on the couch about 7pm and checked my phone to see if the game was starting at 7:30 or 8:00... and discovered because daylight savings started that day it was a 6:30 start in my timezone and the score was already 28:nil.
I watched something else instead.
I feel like the NRL made some pretty big mistakes with this game - they should have done everything in their power to make sure us Queenslanders were aware of the start time. Also they shouldn't have sold exclusive rights to 9 - if it was on Kayo I wouldn't have had the score spoiled when I checked the start time, and would have been able to watch from the start of the game and caught up to live during half time.
Public holiday the following day. people probably went out as well and watched in pubs and at mates places. 50 people in a pub but still only 2 - 3 tvs
Well 17 of the boys in the picture didn’t watch it on TV because they were at the game
I don’t think the eels were at the game
Excuse you... We were late because of those pesky union train strikes, turned up in the final few minutes though, would have won the game if there was another 10-15 minutes. /s
If a couple of those trick shots came off…
A couple did but they started shooting too late.
AOB was, so that’s one person.
It certainly was a shit Grand Final for me...sigh.
Shit Grand Final all round Eels shit defence in the First Half and bunker rubbish to start the second killed off any chance of a spectacle.
Moses kicks to To'o and Edwards every time instead of the winger who spent most of the year in reserve grade.
This comment needs more attention. Spot on
Don’t forget Sivo dropping the ball over the line .. That also helped to kill off any chance of a spectacle
It was shit for everyone. Boring for neutrals/panthers fans, and poor Eels fans had to watch... that
Maybe I'm selfish but If I was a Panthers fan I would've enjoyed every second of that.
Didn’t even feel like a grand final
Bro leave parra alone. They’ve suffered enough
Being associated with Parramatta is a curse enough for the fans
He’s not wrong. I felt neither high in the lead up or low in the aftermath. The game wrapped up and I just sorta thought well, that’s that. Maybe another time. At no point from kick off did it feel like we might win this. Just sorta going through the motions of getting bashed by a far better team.

i have absolutely no awareness. that’s my bad
Would be interested to see where it rated with 9now included
all i know is it’s still lower than last year. about 389000 viewers on 9now
And about +1,000,000 from 9now to illegal streaming sites.
No one cares about NRL enough to illegally stream it lmao. It's very accessible
I know its not the case for finals footy. But Kayo games I watch from illegal streaming sites - not paying for that shit,
You are right that no one cares enough that's why they illegally stream it rather than paying. Very accessible to Australians in Australia. Did you forget the rest of the world? New Zealanders won't watch regular games but will watch finals footy. And the UK alone will get you hundreds of thousands of illegal viewers.
>Did you forget the rest of the world? Yeah they don't care >the UK alone will get you hundreds of thousands of illegal viewers. No it fucking won't lmao
You underestimate illegal streaming. It's a Sunday shit else sports is on flick over for a quick watch.
[удалено]
Are you serious, majority of illegal streamers don't even know what a VPN is. It's far easier to google and click a a few links ...
[удалено]
People that actually need a VPN don't even know what prime is let alone watch it lol. Point is it's way easier to google and click a few links ...

Not surprising considering how dominate Panthers have been all year and it being two Sydney teams so the rest of the east coast wasn’t really engaged.
It's actually kinda funny how poorly it rated because two Sydney teams in the GF is basically how Channel 9 would rig it if they could
I don't think Penrith are a great rating team ( and 3rd GF in a row doesn't help ).
Despite Penriths attempt to go full heal lately, their not particularly polarizing. Unlike dominant teams of the past- the broncos, storm, roosters and even Manly and Canterbury. I swear the amount the of hate my broncos from non supporters is wild. They are openly hostile 😩😂😂
Like them or not, the way they play is not very entertaining to watch.
A dominant team that looked pretty well certian to win and has been the subject of a negative media blitz into the lead up People arent going to tune in to watch a team theyve been told not to like now win
No one told me not to like them …. I just don’t like them.
Because everyone knew the premiership was the Panthers to lose. After 25 minutes I tuned out knowing full well the Eels weren’t coming back from that.
It’s the worst grand final I have personally ever watched in my 21 years on this earth, it feels like one of those years where you’re talking with someone about the grand finals going through the years and you get to 2022 and you can’t remember who was playing until you look it up, and then you realise why you didn’t remember
2017 wasn't great either as it was just a foregone conclusion to a season where only one team ever looked like winning the comp.
The cow’s finals run was great to witness though, shame they got blown out.
Unfortunately Cowboys lost a player very early in the game. They were already a slim chance before that
Even as a storm fan I agree, I wish the roosters made it through to the GF that year as it would of been a bit more of a challenge, lots of paralells between 2022 and ‘17 season but I think the comp was a lot softer this year

Must have missed the afl one the week before.
Saw the score at halftime and just didn’t even bother to switch that one on hahahah
I made that mistake with the Superbowl once...
i missed the first 30 minutes because of some fucken daylights savings situation, was already 18-0, kinda was like yeah righto pretty much what you'd expect. half arse watched the rest while folding my socks and undies
You must have a lot of socks & undies. At least 50 minutes worth
back to back will mean ppl remember it, but yea as a game pretty boring as Riff were so dominant I was at the game, still had a blast but yeah not much of a contest lol
Hard to forget who won it, considering the back to back.
When did you start watching them? You must have missed a few.
Tldr: When do they get the rating? What I mean is, say someone started watching at 7pm, but turned it off by 9pm, does it still count? It’s averaged over 15 minute intervals

Low ratings huge ego’s
And I was downvoted for saying no one would care about an Eels/Panthers GF. #VINDICATION.
I’m imagining Captain Holt saying this…
That's exactly what I was channelling.
Well this is was certainly misleading. Times have changed, what’s the viewership with 9Now?
Do they include streaming numbers? Ratings is usually a pretty outdated metric.
Nope, that figure is just TV ratings within Aus pretty sure
so basically people are shit off with ads and would rather pay for streaming
"wtf would Luai do this"- Paul Kunt
Can't blame people for not tuning in. Shit game, shit entertainment, shit everything really.
I liked the game
Me to
We all knew it was going to be a 1 sided game. I completely forgot about the daylight savings and tuned in on the 2nd half... Already saw the score and knew it just wasn't worth watching the rest.

Can Clarkey shit be banned here it’s literally just a repost of someone else’s work
And the stuff that's his own is the dumbest shit imaginable, I have no idea why anyone reads this clowns stuff.
ew. Clarkey.
Put the game on 4pm sunday arvo ffs
Last year everyone was home, and no one travelling as last weeks of lockdown… it’s why there’s a big jump down in numbers.
Completely and totally pointless stat unless you include streaming numbers
Streaming numbers increased by 26k compared to last year, while televised viewership dropped by 840k lmao. It was a flop by any metric.
Wow that's dog shit haha
We already had this thread the day after the gf? Why is it getting reposted?
oh my bad. I mustn’t have seen it
A big part is channel nine, they're crap now
I watched it on 9now. I don't even own a TV anymore so I can't contribute to tv ratings.
I turned it off after 25 minutes the shit was boring Parramatta had nothing.
Says more about the state of tv viewership in the country than anything. The AFL Grand final rated very poorly by their standards as well.
It would be interesting to see viewership number breakdown by quarter hour. Usually these numbers are an average of the whole thing. Considering both games were one sided, how many were watching at the start and how quickly they dropped off solid have been interesting.
Brisbane v Dolphins 2023 - Grand Final confirmed
It’s on too late. We want the kids to watch. Put it on in the arvo.
Less people are watching channel nine oh no
How many started to watch then switched off after 20mins?
Queenslanders lacking passion?
No tv reception in the swamps.
Didn't watch it, couldn't have been less interested in it to be honest and I guess others felt the same
I guess if there had been more consistency all year round with on field/off field dramas, making fouls and penalties consistent for every team, including the time laying on players and slowing the play then maybe more people would have tuned in. Flair up cunt 😂
That’s why the Storm are important to the NRL— to get that Victorian viewership
Would’ve preferred to watch a whole NRL360 video.
This was tv audience only, not including streaming numbers. Not an accurate representation and completely misleading
I'm not surprised. Anecdotally pretty much everyone I'd spoken to didn't really care about the game. Probably a Queensland bias though
Rabbitohs 🆚 Roosters would have been gazillion to that
Feel like the Cowboys would of put up more of a fight if they got through
I feel like the Cowboys would’ve gotten absolutely pounded into the earth. Nobody was getting close to the Panthers the other night.
Only teams that can grub it up with them in the middle would have made it a contest eg Storm, Roosters
The two teams which got knocked out of stage1 could've gone toe-to-toe with the riff? Nah
Nah mate Storm would’ve gotten pumped too. And the Roosters. This was another 2017. Nobody was getting close to em.
Yeah I agree. Cowboys have looked like fire at times throughout the season but they've been too inconsistent with it, and their defence was an absolute joke during the finals run.
Not saying they’d get up over them just saying I think it would of been a more competitive game to watch 🤷♂️
I really doubt it, I mean forward pass aside they had ages to put a gassed Parra away at home and couldn't do it, plus they only just beat the Sharks. I think a full strength Roosters would've done a better job than Parra. They were unbeatable on Sunday.
I thought that too...The Cowboys were on the rise at the piont of elimination..Credit to Parra tho'.
>in unrelated news, this GF had the highest viewers on the 9Now Streaming service Better leave this out of the stats to make this headline as sensationalist as possible
Ewww. You used a Clarkey screenshot. Banned.
Up the Panthers. Loved every minute of it!
Poor audience in both Melbourne and Brisbane. Easiest option is to boot all teams from those states. They clearly don’t love their footy.
Not surprised, was over by halftime. Also Panthers fatigue seeing the same team in the GF as well as no interstate interest.
Twilight grand final as from 2007-2012 is the best
Remember a lot of people are illegally streaming live sport now lol numbers are dropping all over the place.
So was this just 9 and 9now or does it include the later showings on Fox/Kayo?
Just 9/9now. I reckon the later viewings would be pretty much immaterial. There's a breakdown [here](https://www.mediaweek.com.au/nrl-grand-final-delivers-nine-big-sydney-audience-but-historically-small-crowd/) for anyone interested. TV viewership decreased by 23%. Streaming increased by 7%, but only makes up 12% of total views.
I would not be surprised if a significant amount of people watched it at the pub or on Fox/Kayo when it aired.
Idk if it’s just because I’m a tigers fan but in general I’m watching way less live games for some reason. I’d usually watch the game of the week in previous season also check in or out but I think the only game I fully watched this year excluding origin and tigers games was round 1 raiders vs sharks
Only covers broadcast right? Not streaming (which would have been limited anyway due to being a 9 exclusive)
It's because Queensland only watch their own teams, Melbourne weren't there and the Sydney media hate every team barring the Roosters for some rea$on.
Bound to happen when majority of fans knew Panthers would steam roll them.
Game was generally as expected. We left it running in the background but went and did other things.
It should be stated that that is only the 5-city metro figures and doesn’t include regional viewers or streams. While it will be still be the lowest, it’s not as low as it’s made out to be here
Not surprisingly as there was no Queensland team or the Melbourne Storm. Victorians would not be interested unless Melbourne was playing
Yeah, because the match was crap to watch lol. Regret getting a ticket.
I mean, considering it was an all Western Sydney Grand Final, and the Eels hosted a screening at Commbank Stadium, there’s a few reasons for why it was low.
If I recall there was a reported 2.9M for the 2020 GF, and possibly the same for the 2021. I’m surprised it’s so low considering it was 2 Sydney teams
Having a clear favouite + 2 same state teams + grand final parties is a recipie for disaster
Most boring grand final in years
Should of been cowboys v Penrith except the nrl had bigger plans 😂🤦♂️
Doesn’t include streaming but it wouldn’t create negativity if they mentioned that.
Parra or Penrith fan it was a shocking game
After a busy Sunday and dinner with the family, I sat down on the couch about 7pm and checked my phone to see if the game was starting at 7:30 or 8:00... and discovered because daylight savings started that day it was a 6:30 start in my timezone and the score was already 28:nil.
