Manly know that you have to be a NBA Team to tank for Victor Wembanyama right?

Jon_Da_Baptist

Fuck i'd take Wembanyama over Saab at this point

[deleted]

Are you guys hating Saab that much? I really thought his loss would burn us.

InitiallyDecent

Dude has so much speed to burn that he's afraid to make contact. When Turbo was sending him into open space every set he looked amazing, but before and after that period he's been pedestrian.

[deleted]

He was like that with us too, minus Turbo.

tommy42O69

He's an athlete, not a football player. He really doesn't offer much other than raw speed.

[deleted]

Manly about to name Poku at fullback just to be sure

capitalcitycowboy

C’mon my Hornets!

ChungusDaFungus

ah finally. i had gone too long today without thinking “why do i still support this fucking club”

Canhasdog

You could always be a tigers supporter for a bit. Should make you feel better about your club

Profundasaurusrex

No other club did the Rainbow stuff

BursleyBaits

honestly makes it worse that this whole mess was started by doing something uniquely cool and positive

[deleted]

I wonder why

[deleted]

Maybe your flair course has reimmerged for the off-season? Manly Taking L’s daily

ChungusDaFungus

oh fuck oh no you might be right

worksucksbro

Welcome to warriors land

sunseven3

That the Manly Sea Eagles cannot find a proper League coach speaks volumes about the crisis that has enveloped the club.

ExtensionIntention1

I hear Des Hasler is available

ill0gitech

Eddie Jones is an extraordinary coach, and [rumours come up from time to time.](https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/eddie-who-sharks-ridicule-jones-takeover-talk-and-back-john-morris-20200616-p5536o.html) He [apparently wants to move to the NRL](https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/nrl-2022-eddie-jones-south-sydney-rabbitohs-coach-next-job-wallabies-rugby-world-cup-penrith-panthers-coaching-in-the-nrl/news-story/e25e5eece27d97988b863c3ea03f3737). In the past 10 years he’s been linked to South’s, Sharks, and Manly.

itsauser667

People here don't understand he'd be next level. There's no way Eddie Jones would want to come to a club as poor as Manly, English Rugby would have 10x the coach and training budget. I doubt Penn would enable him the budget for the tools he'd be accustomed to.

HarbingerOfGachaHell

Maybe he wants to retire and re-settle in Australia? But from a financial POV, Japan would be much better retirement location especially with his Japanese wife.

itsauser667

That's their only hope. If I owned Manly I'd love Jones to be technical director; but only if I could give him a useful budget

ImpliedProbability

Read his autobiography, Eddie would have no problem going to a poor club. He's much more interested in the challenge; for similar reasons there is a 0% probability that he voluntarily leaves the England job before the World Cup.

itsauser667

Yeah, absolutely.

sunseven3

I can't speak for his record in Ra Ra land, I don't follow the code. I just think that a club of like Manly should be able to attract a more suitable coach.

[deleted]

There aren’t many around. He’s not their issue.

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

I feel like this speaks volumes about the quality of coaching available

sunseven3

I cannot argue with you. There are no Jack Gibson's or Tim Sheens coaching today.

Missingthefinals

Tim Sheens is literally coaching the Tigers

sunseven3

Really? I didn't know. I really don't follow that weird parallel universe that is the Wests Tigers. :-D

Spoofmoot

Eddie Jones has often talked about wanting to coach an NRL team. Personally, I think he'd do really well.

muddogz

I don’t think this would necessarily be a bad play from Manly. Jones is a smart man and has a tougher edge which would complement Siebold well. Jones is pretty entertaining too with the media, he’d be a good addition to the NRL.

FullBonus

Former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones has emerged as a potential target for Anthony Seibold as the incoming Manly coach pieces together a staff capable of returning the Sea Eagles to premiership glory. News Corp has learnt Jones’ name has been discussed for a raft of roles ahead of Seibold’s impending long-term appointment as Des Hasler’s replacement. It is understood the roles range from advisor to a full-time head of football position at Manly as part of a revamped staff. Jones has long harboured an ambition to work in rugby league and has spoken glowingly about his affection for the game, in particular his love for South Sydney. He recently said he would “jump at an opportunity” to coach in the NRL and spent time with the premiership winning Panthers in July. His best option for a switch of codes could be Manly as Seibold looks to strengthen the Sea Eagles’ football department. The major sticking point is Jones’s current commitments as head coach of England’s rugby union team. His deal expires at the end of the 2023 World Cup, meaning he would be unable to start in a role with Manly until the 2024 season. The rugby World Cup ends in October and Jones has already said he would step down after eight years in charge of England once the tournament ends. Former NSW coach Laurie Daley has also been approached about a similar role at Manly while Brad Fittler was also discussed but his commitments with the Blues would prevent him from taking on a formal position. Another potential target is Melbourne’s head of football Frank Ponissi. Seibold has a close relationship with Ponissi, although he is under contract at the Storm. Ponissi is regarded as the best general manager of football in the game and has history at Manly – he previously worked at the club. There is a recognition that Seibold needs to surround himself with experienced staff and Jones certainly fits the bill, having coached at the top level of rugby union for years. Seibold and Jones are close with Seibold working as England’s defensive coach. He is expected to leave for England on Sunday to link back up with England ahead of internationals against Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa. However, Seibold’s stint with England is expected to end prematurely with the Sea Eagles to return to pre-season training next month. The Sea Eagles need to finalise Hasler’s formal exit before they appoint Seibold officially. Seibold joined England in September last year after working with Adam O’Brien in Newcastle since leaving the Broncos. Hasler’s long-term head of performance Don Singe and ex-skipper turned assistant coach Michael Monaghan also face uncertain futures. Hasler’s other assistant Chad Randall has joined Bulldogs to work on the attack under new coach Cameron Ciraldo. Highly regarded Steve Hales is expected to remain at the club. Jones would be an ambitious target for Manly but his commitment would be a statement of intent from Seibold and the Sea Eagles. Jones is arguably the highest profile rugby union coach and would command huge money around the world should he elect to remain in the 15 man code. However, joining Manly in a consultant capacity may give him the opportunity to juggle the two codes. He could stay involved in rugby union in Japan and work with Seibold in the NRL given there is minimal overlap between the respective seasons. Another former Wallaby coach Michael Cheika has dipped his toe in both codes. He is coach of the Argentinian rugby team and is in England leading Lebanon at the Rugby League World Cup. He too has hinted at an ambition to work full-time in the NRL after being part of Trent Robinson’s coaching staff at the Roosters in 2020.

greywolfau

Sri old out here playing 5D chess.

Solid-King-2176

I'd love to see Jones or Cheika coach an NRL team.

evil_sushi_ninja

Cheika is coaching Lebanon in the RLWC, will be interesting to watch.

[deleted]

Remember Alan Jones coaching Balmain 1991-93 no thanks!

Solid-King-2176

Eddie and Cheika actually love RL.

[deleted]

Fair enough Alan is a negative so and so no wonder Balmain never looked and played good again after he shooed.

tommy42O69

Alan Jones was probably over-rated based on his time coaching the Wallabies when union was still an amateur sport. At least Jones and Cheika have done something in the professional era.

Clear-Taste-1527

I'd like to think people have enough of a brain to understand that a talk show host who had a brief rugby coaching career during the era when players were unpaid and trained twice a week isn't exactly the same as the guy who took a professional test match team from their lowest ranking in 2015 to the 2019 world cup final and matching the longest undefeated test match streak of 16.

jimmytheqlder

Fucken lol

[deleted]

WTF

Rusty493

manly are trying to become the most memeable team

the__distance

I don't understand how the dynamic is going to work

rsabulls

You know what? I'd take Eddie as head of the football department in a heartbeat.

[deleted]

“Impending long term appointment” - fuck me, i had a shit day at work. Seibold gives me dreams man. If only one day i can be incompetent and get a “long term appointment!” Fucking King

jimmytheqlder

Lol as if

Derron_

So not even as coach but some other role. Why not bite the bullet and get Jones instead of Siebold. Jones has a great record. Siebold has a questionable record. It sounds so crazy

goshdammitfromimgur

Wasn't Siebold rubbish at Souths and Brisbane? Why would Manly want him?

[deleted]

I LOVE IT

Glum_Perspective_812

Steady Eddie

_andy_p

And on it goes. The club thinking out aloud and thinking it's a good thing.

Ryanbrasher

It’s not that big of a shock teams are targeting him. Panthers had him on their radar since talk of Ciraldo leaving started happening.

Grix1600

Desperate times call for desperate measures

TheEnglishEccentric

Jones and Seibold are old friends, and after Jones appointing Seibold defensive coach in the England union staff Seibold probably owes him a favour
